- Hey hey! First vid of 2024 for the channel. In this vid I talk about the pros and cons of using your modern MPC in a HYBRID setup. I've been using the MPC in various versions of this type of setup for the past couple of years so I'm sharing some of my experience.

This is a phenomenal depiction of the unrealized value of "standalone" machines like this MPC. This is an appliance dedicated to run the same frequently expanding version of the same application that runs on the PC. It can be used as an external effects processor, looper, sampler, sequencer and etc. Its a machine well underpriced considering these capabilities. I use my MPC One and Key with Maudio AIR 192 as an external sound card. The resulting sound quality rivals any synth multiple times the price.
I agree 👍🏻 I’ve just got into the MPC One+ as a 52 yr old guy in England. As someone who has seen the birth of windows-based operating systems and then used them a lot over the years in jobs, for leisure, etc - making music mostly on my laptop would make me run a mile.
I can’t play any instruments - life got in the way lol, and so I treat my MPC as one 😊
As I’m understanding it, I will end up looking at one of the DAWs to ‘finish’ up my songs.
Great channel and explained in plain English - love to the community here 👍
Exactly how I use the mpc live with my bass station, fantom and hydra synth
Using the behringer XR18 compact mixer. Works like a charm. No clicks and pops 18 IN 18 OUT. The size of a convers-shoebox. 😁
I love the way you always record long sequences.
Thanks for the rundown. I also tried the mpc with it as the interface, but I also experienced the issue of pops and clicks. Until they sort that out I’m happy in my workflow where i mix everything in the mpc and track out using the trs cable outputs. You can get a really good mix in just the mpc it’s such a slept on thing that not many people try. Also don’t know if you tried this but I set up an external reverb pedal on outputs 5/6 of the live 2 and on the return set that to output through 1 and 2. Now I can set the reverb pedal to 100% wet and use the individual sends in the mpc just like you can in a daw. Great channel appreciate your content
Running a load of gear in via an external mixer and using the MPC as the midi brain works quite well in a lot of situations.
Gr8 overview for further integrating a setup into a sequencing sound engine. 👾
Beat came out hard! 💪🏿
Happy New Year to you, as well! Still watching the MPC with interest, but it's still mostly on the GAS side of the equation for me.
(And Zzounds' server farm is apparently getting hammered by the weather pretty hard right now, so they've taken the site down. Yikes!)
One thing I’ve found with the Mpc using this method is that any fx placed on an audio track are on the output of the audio track . So you can’t record the wet signal. That’s not the case on the force.
Also with the most recent Hakai firmware you can adjust the buffer size on the standalone unit.
Great rundown, I gave up on standalone mode a long time ago(MPC One og). I’m still cursed with “authorization” of my paid stuff every time I turned the thing on.
Thanks! Yeah the auth system can be super buggy at times. Especially with OS updates!
Nice honest review. I wish you had a deal with Sweetwater because they offer a free 2 warranty.
Havent watched yet, but i just wanted to let you know that i really like your shirt!
To my understanding, it's not advised to run an audio interface through a hub which sucks in this particular situation for me as I only have one USB out on my One Plus. That may be where the clicks and pops are coming from. Just a heads-up
Does the Akai ‘allow’ an external audio interface to act as the clock master? Not for midi, but for audio. Did you ever try the Audio4c from iConnectivity with the clock set to external (USB port1 or 2) so the MPC would considered to be the clock master?
Ahh here he is!
Thanks for that. What about the OMNI note off bug! Does that bug you?
More RAM or being able to upgrade it would be nice as well.
Kinda off topic, but do you still use your octatrack? I've found that the digitakt workflow just clicks with my brain and I know the OT has its quirks and is a different beast, but do you think it's a good "step forward" as something to dive in to deeper? Kind of just wondering if you would recommend "graduating" to the OT from the Digitakt (I would still keep my DT and use it with the octa)
I wish there was a video just like this except with a Maschine+😅
Hey Teffy thanks for your content… I am a novice MPC one+ user… I have not yet hooked up my external gear.. was thinking of getting a mixer but not sure now I need one… I could do with a more detailed individual guide… you do things do fast I can’t keep up… even with repeating. I have six external synths… could you do a vlog on connection as a starter… grateful if you could. Love from North Wales
There are loads of videos documenting these kinds of things, and each person comes up with different solutions depending on their gear.
I use a Behringer RX1602 V2 as the sub-mix for synths going into my MPC. keeps the footprint small, and with 16 channels (8 stereo pairs) there's room for a lot of toys.
Any prefferred USB Hubs? 3.0 minimum?
Is there a digital download pdf on how to set up?
Nope, but I should make one! Thanks for the inspiration.
People really don't understand the incredible power of 32 channels with a class compliant usb mixer. I don't think there is any other piece of gear out there that can give you the power of multifx send returns and multitrack recording when is used that way
True but they need to fix the pop & clicks that so many others are dealing with.
NPC…. 😀
