Health first, life second youtube third Squidgey. No need to apologize for a Video being a bit late! And yeah I understand the spontaneous Poliwag genocide. Early oneshots are fun xD
I said this the last time I saw another run with this line but, the Bellsprout line isn't a flower. It's a pitcher plant. I didn't even know those existed back when I was a kid so I never realized. But basically pitcher plants are carnivorous plants with an open-ended stomach that lures in insects and anything else to its "lips", just to make them slip into the stomach. Some even have a leaf to cover the stomach in rainy climates to avoid diluting the stomach acid... just like Victreebel's.
I believe this is the first pokemon I've seen that actually didnt need to have Hidden Power or Return on their moveset. Not the fastest time but great job for the limited amount of moves Victreebell!
AND WE’RE BACK! Very nice run Squidgy! I always like the grass type runs because they have so many weaknesses to account for but you pulled through and steamrolled!
Hey Squidgy, hope you're feeling better! It's a shame that Victreebel cannot learn swords dance, in Yellow it sweeps right through the game. I hope you'll make that Crystal tutorial on challenges, I'm interested myself in starting a RUclips channel in the future and I'd love as much help as I can get. Have a nice one!
'Liar with the fliers' has entered my everyday speech by this point. I hope you're happy. But good to see Victreebel, did a bit worse than I expected but that's Gen 2 for you, not kind to Grass. Now I worry for the Oddish line, Vileploom is kind of just worst Victreebel most times and I don't think Bellosom is going to do much better.
Vileplume/Bellossom's joint run isn't going to be fantastic, in Gen 2 they are ostensibly just bad Bellsprout. However, I will do my best to get them as high up the leaderboard as possible!
You know with each Pokémon starting with a berry, when the Chansey/Farfetch'd runs come along will you be changing their items to the lucky punch/stick? In the same vein, a Pikachu with light ball vs Raichu is an entire concept for a video. Anyways back to the run, go Victreebel!
That's a VERY interesting idea, I think for the main leaderboard, we'll keep the berry, but when we run them on a stream, they'll have their specific items
15:05, was that a reference to the anime and James' victreebel? This will probably be a good run after the early game grinding. Whilst Razor leaf is no longer a guaranteed crit it does play nice with stat changing moves and sleep is always overpowered
I still prefer Vileplume between it and Victreebel as the EASIER of the 2 due to absorb Victreebel can only heal itself with Mega/Giga drain else Vileplume is so much better.
Red would definitely have been quicker with Giga Drain from the beginning of the Red fight, and that's something we're going to be taking advantage of in our redo stream!
I woyld be interested in seeing the tutorial of how to speedrun Crystal. I think itbwould be interestig to see how things between these major battles go that helps cut down on time. Also, love your videos. They're some of my favorite background videos.
I'd love a tutorial, these runs have made me want to try them myself! I'm considering a run with Aipom, not the greatest mon in gen 2 but it's always been one of my favorites!
When you said that you always use your candies the same way, you hit 66, 69,72, 76. Have you heard of damage rounding thresholds ? And would you try to swap reset times for training time/plan more training for pokemons that can't sleep/setup for red (even if curse/return exist) ?
I know about the thresholds, yes, but I don't factor them in. Every Pokémon will reach the start of the Red fight with a different amount of Experience Points, and that's an important factor in determining how well a Pokémon performs, so the fairest way to get an accurate overview of the entire run is to use the Rare Candies in a set pattern every single time.
Poor grass types are having no luck so far. So close to a sub 2 as well. I'd love to see a tutorial video. As I've gotten really into these challenges and would love to do some myself.
Grass-type Pokémon really do get the short end of the stick in Johto, having so many big battles work against them. I'm actively working on the tutorial, although I'm not 100% sure how to format it yet!
First off I would love to watch a tutorial vid secondly i know you named it Rowan but I think James would have been funny. But I love this video! Keep it up man
How do you change the pokemon at the beginning as I'm just getting back into pokemon crystal! I really want a Houndour for starter! Cheers and great videos!!!
Universal Pokémon Randomizer is a good one, I’m also sure you can find a starter change GameShark code on an old cheat codes forum, every modern emulator supports GameShark codes
The Universal Pokémon Randomizer's the best way to change your starter, but if you're on a device which doesn't support it, cheat codes will work just as well!
I think some battles could've gone faster since you used Growth a bunch of times then proceeded to KO all opposing pokemon with Sludge Bomb, but nice run overall
I set up Growth as a backup, in case Sludge Bomb wasn't strong enough. I've learnt very quickly in these runs to always have something to pivot to, just in case.
Now that I've seen the majority of this video, it seems like you should have used hidden power ground instead to have better moves against steel/fire/poison types " the various gengars and Gastly line Pokemon you run into"
I purposely didn't use HP Ground on this occasion as I've used it an awful lot in the previous few runs, but we'll be running HP Ground in the redo stream for Victreebel!
How dare you be a day late. Kidding, smidge late isn't all that bad. Never really used Victreebel but has always been a great poke imo, once it actually gets a move pool
From a lore perspective though, Janine is a very new gym leader on the coattails of her father Koga in Kanto, so it makes some lore sense why she isn't as strong yet as other Kanto gyms.
It makes a lot of sense in-game lore-wise. I just wish they'd have added a port in Fuchsia City and dropped you off there, so you could battle her first as an introduction to Kanto!
Health first, life second youtube third Squidgey. No need to apologize for a Video being a bit late! And yeah I understand the spontaneous Poliwag genocide. Early oneshots are fun xD
Buzzing for this after watching Scott’s thoughts destroy everything with it! Hope you’re all good Squidgy!
You worked out the logic perfectly there!

Hard to tell how this will go since razor leaf is no longer a guaranteed crit
12:30 "we just yeet the poliwrath into next week"
sounds like an announcement
no worries on the video being late- it's okay to take as much time as you need! hope everything's alright, and take care of yourself!
Great run! Very respectable time for Rowan :)
Your health come first man, I'm completely fine waiting longer knowing you're taking care of yourself. Fantastic video as usual :D
I believe this is the first pokemon I've seen that actually didnt need to have Hidden Power or Return on their moveset. Not the fastest time but great job for the limited amount of moves Victreebell!
Love it when these come out, on time or late 😊
I would be very interested in a tutorial-type video regarding how you do these runs.
Personally I love how succinct your videos are !
Rowan? As in Atkinson? As in Mr Bean? A in Beansprout?
AND WE’RE BACK!
Very nice run Squidgy! I always like the grass type runs because they have so many weaknesses to account for but you pulled through and steamrolled!
I'm glad you enjoyed the run, bud!

I'm starting the planning on the tutorial video right now! If you want any more detailed help, feel free to message me on Twitter!
I just got excited for this one because I remembered what a ballsprout once did to ash so lets see what it can do to johto 😂
Never expected Victreebel to be a good GSC playthrough Pokemon 😲 even if it's in 28th place. But those 14 resets make this run really great 👍
'Liar with the fliers' has entered my everyday speech by this point. I hope you're happy.

No need to apologize bro!! Self-care ALWAYS comes first!! I hope everything gets better for you!! Keep dropping those amazing vids!!
I'm feeling much better today, thank you, Andre! I'm glad you're enjoying the content!
Chuck is actually the 5th gym leader (can potentially be 6th or 7th aswell depending on which order you do those 3 gyms).
Nice run Squidgy! You should definitely do a tutorial video, I would be very interested to watch it!
18:57 you fight him again in Mt. Moon and then after that every Monday and Wednesday if you try the elite four he will battle you as well
Awesome run! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks, bud!
Love seeing your content. Hope you’re not suffering from Ligma!
I'm not, but I have just recovered from Slugma.

Love the videos, whenever they happen to come out. Hope you're feeling all right today!
I'm feeling much better than I was a few days ago, thank you!
Would love a tutorial video. Not sure I’ll ever try challenge runs like this but would be interested from a curiosity standpoint.
I would absolutely love a long tutorial run
the balls shown by setting up in the houndooms face tho
15:05, was that a reference to the anime and James' victreebel?
This will probably be a good run after the early game grinding. Whilst Razor leaf is no longer a guaranteed crit it does play nice with stat changing moves and sleep is always overpowered
I just like being a bit of a dick to the stone trainers and delete their number right next to them!
I still prefer Vileplume between it and Victreebel as the EASIER of the 2 due to absorb Victreebel can only heal itself with Mega/Giga drain else Vileplume is so much better.
Voting for the tutorial video! Been enjoying this a lot and want to give this a shot myself.
The tutorial video's gonna take a wee while to do, as I want to get it right, but production is well underway!
Damn I feel like Red would have been a first try if you giga drained Snorlax. Great run, lots of fun!
Red would definitely have been quicker with Giga Drain from the beginning of the Red fight, and that's something we're going to be taking advantage of in our redo stream!

Victreebel is such a solid Pokémon
Hello nice to meet you British Scotts thoughts, new to your channel and am enjoying it, have a great day Squidgy!
It's very nice to meet you too, Gliscor! I hope you're doing well :)
I'd love a tutorial, these runs have made me want to try them myself! I'm considering a run with Aipom, not the greatest mon in gen 2 but it's always been one of my favorites!
Aipom is a phenomenal Pokémon to run. Handle it correctly, and it can easily be done in under 90 minutes.
Haha no way one of my good buddies just had a kid he named Rowen. Great video keep it up
When you said that you always use your candies the same way, you hit 66, 69,72, 76. Have you heard of damage rounding thresholds ?

coming up to 4k subs, great work.
Cheers, Daniel!
I normally try and catch bellsprout as my first Pokémon if I don't get bulbasaur as starter
6:07 Arent poison move physical? And if so you could skip the growth and save a couple of turns
I wouldn’t normally comment but my bird is named Rowan. And I was surprised to see you name bellsprout that.
Jw why did you use the poison moves over boosted grass moves on the rivals gastly/haunter
Poor grass types are having no luck so far. So close to a sub 2 as well. I'd love to see a tutorial video. As I've gotten really into these challenges and would love to do some myself.

James will 100% be the name for when we do the redo stream!
After Split victreebel is super good 😊 i love just roselia and roserade a bit more. Maybe someday you can make a roselia/roserade run 😊
Roselia's planned for the near future when I resume FireRed!
You can use the universal pokemon randomizer
edit: the link to it is in the description under resources
@@ACountrymansLPs cheers mate ill have a look
The Universal Pokémon Randomizer's the best way to change your starter, but if you're on a device which doesn't support it, cheat codes will work just as well!
I was very upset when i was playing silver for the first time and realized wrap wasnt as much of a cheat code anymore
I love this plant monster
Fun fact: jasmines steelix is level 30 until you bring her the secretpotion
I don’t know if you know this , but poison is physical in this gen and gen 3 king
I wonder who could beat Kang(askhan) the Conqueror
Probably another normal type, maybe Porygon 2?
You can so get a better time I believe it
Can I get hellllllll yeahhhhhhhhh
HELLL YEAHHHHH
i love you ❤
I think some battles could've gone faster since you used Growth a bunch of times then proceeded to KO all opposing pokemon with Sludge Bomb, but nice run overall
I was definitely over-cautious with this run, and always wanted a backup! I've been stung one too many times by Grass-types!
Hey man, health is important. Don't push yourself too hard
Setting up growth only to use sludge bomb is painful to watch
I set up Growth as a backup, in case Sludge Bomb wasn't strong enough. I've learnt very quickly in these runs to always have something to pivot to, just in case.
Yes make the video
For all the run, I was crying because it wasn't hp ground :( Would have been so much quicker 😢
I purposely didn't use HP Ground this time, as I'd used it an awful lot in the previous few runs, but we'll be running HP Ground in the redo stream!
Love that thing, but boi gen2 is not a good place for any grass pokemon. So many bad matchups and still lacking a lot of later gen good grass moves.
I would love a basic tutorial. I wanna do challenge runs myself (just for fun, not YouTubing or anything) :)
I'll be getting one sorted out ASAP!
I'm immunocompromised which is what I'm assuming you are you sound a bit sick.
Oh wait nvm ha
How dare you be a day late.
Kidding, smidge late isn't all that bad. Never really used Victreebel but has always been a great poke imo, once it actually gets a move pool
Squidgy
That's me!
