    • @OopsADaisy636

      I believe it has helped me. I need to know the tech skills of my stylist. And how to ask for what I'm looking for. I've just let my hair grow. And allowed only small layers on the ends. Because I don't know how hair works. You are helping me understand what I want. Is it rude to ask my stylist to watch this?

      @Dorie, so glad I can help. Great question about your stylist. Tough to say how they’ll react but it’s worth a try. If you approach from “I’m having a hard time explaining what I want but this video explains it”, that wouldn’t bother me as a stylist.

    Justin texturizing with the shark scissors makes hair weak . You are an artist and knows how and did it on long and fine hair and straight hair as well. Texturizing wavy hair is a disaster that looks worst as it grows, 99% of stylists can’t use those scissors nor the blade! Texturizing medium length and thick and abundant as well as wavy hair is the worst mistake!!!!!
    People need to understand that layering does not always need texturizing….
    Thank you! Lovely couple♥️

    After watching 5:16 of this video,I went ahead and stopped it.Didn’t finish it.Because I can’t believe it! I have finally found the video I have been looking for, during my home hair cutting journey. Why? Mr. Hubby-you seem to have intimate understanding about women’s long hair, and the love/hate layering relationship. And this is the first video I have ever watched, where a hairdresser wasn’t just rambling thru the usual words and information; some have been very good, even amazingly talented-don’t get me wrong-but that’s all they were. (no offense meant, seriously, to anyone, got nothing but love for ya here😘) I don’t think any of them understood what a bad haircut can do to some women, or men’s sense of well being.( not everyone😁) I never got that been-there-done-that-I-get-it sense, like I am getting so far from you. You come across like you truly want to help. An emotional connection. Or at least I felt one, when you made me realize It wasn’t just me that wonders why the hair around my ears layers out like stringy thin crap. And the hubby-wife duo? Her hair means business, and you know what they say: happy wife=happy life.( wifey; you have done good, girl. Your hair probably makes the angels sing, and you don’t have to make an appointment to boot.)To wrap it up: I going to watch all your videos, tell my gal pals, make my wonderful hubby watch them, too( oh yes, I got plans for him) may you get tons of revenue from your vids, and a big fat thank you-7 yrs ago, I got my hair botched. Bad. Layer job. Said that’s it. Went to Cosmetology school in HS in 89.Home cutting, lots of trial and error, botched it a lot myself. Almost, almost “perfected” my method-except for the ear area, and couple other things. Close to my “dream hair”. Hey-maybe I might get angel hair, too when I done with your videos! All silliness aside-main reason I wanted to comment, when so many people like to complain, it seems they will take the time to do that, and only a few take the time to praise. And you guys both deserve a praise. Thank you so much again. I can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos! Hope both of you are having a wonderful day😃

    You're a genius Justin Hickox! I wish I could find someone in my area who knew how to cut long, fine, thin hair without doing that awful thinning at the ends - it looks like I need the ends trimmed all over again. So frustrating. It was helpful to see the side by side shot of how you got the front to look so soft & blended. Obviously I don't know anything about cutting hair to get what I want, but by watching your vid you explained why the hair should be pulled straight up to 180 deg rather than to the side at 90 deg. Thank you sir - you and your beautiful wife have a great day : )

    I'd luv to c u do this long layer cut on a curly -girl's head! Layers on my 3c curls r sooo difficult to manage! Every time I've let a stylist cut layers I've regretted it caz all layers do is make my hair even more curly, more voluminous, more poufy, and frizzy, which is the exact opposite of what I want! Last time I had it done I wore hats for a year until it grew back out! !! So wish my hair were straight, or at least just wavy. Those girls have so many more style options!

    this was really useful thank you - i needed instruction on exactly how to do layers in the back. i must say however that those texturizing shears are a no-go for curly or wavy hair that tends to frizz, and they dull shine in any hair. in fact even point cutting, if it’s moderately deep, creates frizz. for my 2a/b hair i’ve found the cleaner the cut, the less frizz and more shine. i need SOME blending and texturizing (via point cutting) to create volume near the roots, but it’s always a matter of finding the right balance and also using other techniques to create volume at the crown.
    good luck to all us DIYers!

    I’m trying to figure out how your very pretty wife, went so long without having you cut her hair into this style before this ;) This is exactly the cut I want, and have been asking for, but after a couple really bad haircuts, making my thick hair look scraggy on the bottom and looking like a cap on top...I’m sitting here with hair too one length for a 67 year old! I’m going to find. Stylist that will watch this video before my haircut...thanks! I also cry easy when I watch videos or listen to sad songs or something emotional 😭

I have a chunky build body do not look well with shoes hair but I love style. Having an hairdresser who knows how to color (creatively with highlights)& know how to cut well!!! Is not easy to find.
    This is my first video I ran across while searching for long hair cuts!!!! I DON'T NEED to search anymore!!! I NEED this same technique!!

    Justin, this is so interesting & I know very little about hair. But, it's like art. Not saying I know anything about art either but this makes sense. You're very intelligent & I like smart people ;). I really like your wife's hair. I also like the highlights. I don't care if they are out or in. They are beautiful. Ugh, I always get that horrible CHUNK of short hair in front on the opposite side of the part. Every stylist does that. I didn't know they were doing it on purpose! I just know that I keep asking them not to do it, and they do. Sometimes I'll hold that part out so they can't cut it, which annoys hair stylists, but it's literally the only time I don't get the chunk. That chunk will take years to grow back out every single time!
    But the good news is now I know more about how to ask for layers in the back.

  • @NT-bw3cc
    @NT-bw3cc 3 года назад +1

    I think this is THE best layering method for longer fine hair to create balance all over the hair since fine hair is usually super dense in the back and (least for me, has a ton of weight & I can nevvvverrrr get a good lo layered cut- my back is always super heavy and sides are too light) sides of the head are going to significantly lighter as well as the front - but I like face framing layers in the front. Idk why this is so hard for hair dressers to understand!! I constantly even tell them, “ i look like a triangle” meaning the bottom is way too heavy and the top has no volume, but they just don’t get it 😔 This video hits the nail on the head!

    I have mixed emotions right now, this is exactly what I wanted, I let my hair grow for almost 3 years with the same one length haircut waiting to have that one haircut with those beautiful layers and volume , I ended up with very little hair on the back and shapeless chopped layers at front, i showed her a picture of what I wanted and explained how important it was for me to not loose much of hair , it took me long time and quite a investment in hair care products to get this far, is being almost a month and I still regret it.

    Are you pivoting the sections in the back? Or bringing everything to that first middle guide? And as far as the front layers, u just bring the hair above parietal up diagonally, if at all? Sorry for all the questions! I’m a very visual learner so I would’ve loved to see how you did the whole haircut!

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  3 года назад

      Totally not a problem at all! I love having stylists on my channel! Thanks! On the top layers I don’t over direct anything to the previous sections because it will leave too much length moving forward. As for the front, I bring it all straight up and typically any hair below the ridge falls out so it doesn’t end up getting layered. If you’ve already layers the front with front layers, there shouldn’t be too much to cut when you pull the section up anyway. Hope that helps.

  • @yvetteclancy1474

    Thank you Justin, I am one of those people who avoid cuts and layers because of hair being cut too short on top (pubic hair length is not great). Now I have layers that do not blend front to back, so they look ... like rubbish.
    So! How do I get a stylist to cut my hair in your way, without offending them (no way will they watch your video). What are the technical words that i can use to describe this so we are speaking the same language?
