I have fine, thick hair that is thinning at the forehead. Still very thick at the crown and just below. My favorite thing to give the look of volume is to turn my head upside down to blow dry until my hair is almost dry all over. Then I use a curling hair dryer brush to shape around my face and give more lift.
I need you to have the client do her own hair, while you supervise, so that we can see how we should do it. You have techniques you can use when you're standing behind and above the head of hair. Us at home need to know how to achieve the same results without removing our head to fix our hair. 😂
I tried this method this morning. Even though I didn't have any of the styling products or the tools that were used (round hairbrush, small nozzle) I had so much more volume! I've been walking around with flat lifeless hair for so long, but no more! Thank you so much for this video!
Wow I've discovered I'm using my blow dryer wrong... and I need to go through all the waxes I got when I had short hair and pinched the tips for texture, to see if there's one I could use here now. Thank you Justin! And thank you for using a REAL person with REAL thin fine straight hair!
You are SO welcome! I'm glad I can help! Definitely check out those wax you have. If it says "matte" finish, that could work too! The key is to style your hair as normal. Make sure yours enough volumizing product to give you enough foundation for volume. Then apply the wax like I show in the video. On a day that you dont have anything to do, try using WAY too much wax. Work it through your hair and see what happens. Then let it dry and play with your hair later in the day. This way you can see what the boundaries are for how much you can use and how it reacts when there's actually too much in. I often find I think I'm using too much in my hair, then later I realize it's not too much and works great!
I did some research on a wax that another viewer mentioned that looks great! It looks to have a solid amount of hold without a huge concern of getting to oily and I've had other hairstylist friends who SWEAR by the company that makes it. Here's a link if you want to check it out. amzn.to/3Da3j3V
I can't use any styling products as my sensitive redhead is allergic to all the chemicals in them...Therefore, I can only use a hair dryer, flat iron, curling iron or hot rollers...Any recommendations for lil ole me? 😁
I tried your wax tip, got one with strong hold and matte. It's one of the best tips I ever used in my hair. I hate hair in my face, but I hate using hairspray also, so I was amazed at the hold this gives you instead of the icky spray and that I can add the extra volume in my hair without worrying about it falling flat. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
@@belizehouseforrent6138 I replied to the other person, but I don't know why it was taken away. I bought the TIGI Bed Head Manipulator Matte Hair Wax Paste with Strong Hold from Amazon. I had put the link in the other reply and maybe that's why it was removed.
I had a FABULOUS hairstylist in the 80’s who taught me all about products & styling for my thin fine hair. I get lots of volume with products and using a round brush, and always get compliments on my hair!
Wow! Drinking my morning coffee and catching up on RUclips videos and watched this video. Game changer!! I’m 66 so fine thinning hair is reality; although with your videos it’s likely I love my hair more now than my earlier years. After my shower this morning, this is what I did differently as recommended in this video. First, added much more volumizing product to my hair than I would typically use. I don’t have the skill to use a separate blow dryer and brush so I used an all-in-one brush/blow dryer. When I started to dry the hair on top of my head, I pulled it straight up and over to the other side. Immediately more volume. I also dried the front portion forward instead of off my face, then styled it in place with my fingers. All I can say is those small changes to my styling routine😂 produced huge results! I looked at my hair this morning and said ‘wow’ out loud.
Wow, nice, I'm happy for you !!! When I do this, it only stays nice for a day, but I can't wash my hair every day so ... Well... That's life All the best to you
I just watched this video a few times, and another two videos from you about thin hair. I got a haircut less than 2 wks ago and I was already really unhappy with it, not knowing how to shape it the way the stylist did. I was resigning myself to yet another several weeks of looking like cr@p until I could find a different stylist. sigh... Then I watched your great videos. I bought a new hairdryer, I used more product, I even tried some of the 'wax'. The tip about making the lower sides 'flat' when drying, to give the appearance of more height at the crown was an absolute revelation!! I just tried all of it for the first time. It felt awkward managing the temperature levels, the direction of the hairdryer, etc. etc., and the wax will definitely take a bit of getting used to. But I did it and WOW!! I kept messing/ tousling it up and re-shaping it, (as you kept doing in the videos) just to see if that was really possible. It is! I'm hoping this isn't just some weird 'beginner's luck', because I now have an effing fabulous haircut! Thanks very much.
This MADE. MY. DAY!!!! Thank you so much for trusting me! I’m SO glad to hear you’re doing so well with it. Definitely not beginners luck. They’re just basically a bunch of tricks that when you put them together, they work. Now as you do this more, you’ll find what works best for you and BOOM. There ya go!
I have made an appointment to get my hair cut into a shorter bob in a weeks time and so happy I watched this video. I now feel more confident that I shall be able to style it myself each morning and with practice it will become easier to do. My hair has always been long and I mostly wear it up in a pony tail and I have been trying to talk myself into getting it cut off for a year because whats the point of having it longer if I wear it up anyhow 🤷🏻♀️ . Im a firefighter so it gets caught in the breathing apparatus mask straps and my helmet and now I’m hoping once I get it cut I’ll be able to finger style it afterwards and not have to worry about it getting caught as much. Thank you for explaining all the steps 🙏👏
Great video again, Justin! Thanks for remembering us thin, fine hair girls. 😊 QUESTION though...for those of us with curly hair into this mix, how should we blow dry our hair? I use a hair dryer/diffuser and scrunch while I'm blowdrying upside down. Thanks again!
Another curly girl chiming in here - mine is medium thick and fine. I can get volume, but it flattens over time and my curls frizz out. Please help us!
Blow your hair while leaning upside down to get volume, then curl with an airbrush all over, and style out with what ever size brush you want, then hair spray.
I enjoy your videos. One thing that’s an issue for me as a post menopausal woman is that when drying my hair, my scalp gets too warm and I sweat which is the most volume killing problem I have. I always use warm air to do the heavy lifting for drying and finish with cold air so my scalp has time to cool down and that makes a huge difference.
I have that issue as well. Nothing like a hot flash right after a shower, lol. I have greying, wavy, fine hair and I only use the cool setting while I'm diffusing. It takes longer but so worth not having a sweaty head. 🙂
Love how you showed where to spray damp hair and how much product to use. I'm always worried I'm not using too much or not enough. Will double the Blow Foam and only use it on the crown and not the sides. Really saw the difference in her hair volume. Great tutorial.
I can't use any chemicals- I had 2 bouts of hair loss and the only thing that worked was going no-poo. I cleanse with baking soda and rinse with AC vinegar. I can't use conditioners, mousse, gels, etc. I cut my hair in what USED to be called an undercut - the hair closest to the nape is the slightly shorter than the outermost hair. It causes the hair to curve under, which is a fuller look. I learned to layer my hair in the 70s and have started doing that so visually longest level of my hair is actually a bevel - layered from the top and from underneath. Since my hair cleansing doesn't lather, I pin it up as high as I can at the crown and don't dry it or brush it out until it's dry. Less hair loss that way. Drying high on my head helps add volume. In general, I try to keep brushing to a minimum
Sounds good so far if you have straight hair. Some of us have wavy to curly hair except that it's completely straight on top it's very hard to get any volume while trying to work with the natural wavy/curl
@@just_a_soul242 if I touch my hair that much I would end up with nothing but frizz I'm trying to add any kind of volume to the top with this mess colors on an option . Usually I have to wet my hair and start all over everyday trying to only wash it twice a week
try some moisturizing shampoo, or just deep condition i like to mox some gell with mouuse use defussure to lessen frizz i have learn the less you handel curly wavy hair the better off your results if you can air day assuming you want curlbor wavy do that , i have both wave and tight currls, so i feel your pain, i bloe dry the back while scrumching it the super curly section using a defusser always the wavyer partt i twist in direction it natural go then mostly air dry. And seperate any funky spots, i have a schs section thats both wave and tight curls on the ends. Experwmenting rith that no scrunch here. Some deguser and twisting then let it air dy. Give it @ good luck
Actually very simple. Thank you. Having lived with fine hair all my life i thought i knew all the hacks. 😊 🤷 Learn something every day if you're willing to listen.
Thanks to you, Justin, I purchased the Laifen hair dryer about 3 mos. ago. ABSOLUTELY love it. I have thinning hair due to thyroid issues. I haven't used the attachments yet, but now I see how important it is to direct the airflow. Of course, the product recommendations are so helpful. ❤ You're awesome!!
Thank you Justin for yet another awesome and informative video! My hair is long, straight and fine, doesn't hold curl or style well. I've been frustrated with it at any lenth. Because of your instructions and encouragement I'm looking forward to styling my hair! You always empower us to make the most of what we have!
Thank you. I went to beauty school, and at 75 years old ,I'm getting better at styling every day. I'm learning I don't know what products to use. I have the direction of down drying good.
What a helpful video! I'm glad you used a model with fine/thin hair. I think I've realized that maybe I'm not using enough product (heat protectant and mousse) because of my fine hair. I'll work on that! Waiting on the Laifen dryer I ordered 11 days ago. I hope it gets here soon! Thank you, Justin! Hi Dionna!
Her hair is twice thicker than mine. Plus my hair dries within seconds after removing the towel, 30 sec. after final rinse. Justin, thank you for sharing. I see your points. They are good for med thickness hair.
Love this! Lately I accepted that I have fine hair and got a bob haircut, after watching your videos on how to style them correctly. Using your techniques at the end I love adding velcro rollers for extra volume. I never loved my hair so much. Thank you 🙏
I think this video is great. It’s been a game changer for me and I also do the same, put Velcro rollers in on the top. Leave in whilst doing makeup. Remove and run wax thru with fingers. Love it.
I am always amazed to watch you twirl the round brush while blow drying. Any time I try that I end up with the brush tangled in my thin fine maybe some wave hair. What am I doing wrong?
Maybe look at getting a hair dryer brush. I discovered these a few years ago, makes a world of difference. They come in several sizes (the barrel/brush part) so if you prefer a skinny brush or large round brush you can choose.
This video is fantastic. One of my favorite videos of yours. I always watch your video straight through -never fast forward like others. All of your information is pertinent and helpful and not a lot of extra babble like so many people do. Thank you for taking the time to make these. I know I really appreciate them.
Thank you! One of my hairdressers showed me many years ago some of these techniques, yet this tutorial is a technique update. I certainly needed to see the blow-dry technique on the sides. I had stopped using wax because I did not know how to apply correctly. Living in Miami humidity every technique is a plus.
Looking at the model shown to advertise the video: Washing the gray hair, wearing make-up, snd smiling improved her appearance as much or more than brushing the bangs out of her eyes!
She had loads of eye makeup on in the before picture and far less in the after picture. It was the first thing I noticed and she looked so much better with less makeup.
Perfect timing as I stand with a towel wrapped around my fine, not thin, hair. I love, love, love my Laifen dryer. I'm a hoarder of them😂 I have a navy, pink, white and mint green Laifen (as well as the stainless toothbrush). Thanks, Justin. While I've been doing most of these steps I haven't hardly ever used the cool or cycling button. Sometimes after drying I lightly soray my hair with a moveable hairspray and run my fingers rhrough it. I hope that's Justin approved! 😊 Have a wonderful day.
I love this! The Laifen is great right! I have their toothbrush too! Started using it a while ago and it's been great. That hairspray is fine! The key is just that you're using something that allows your hair to still have some movement. Many hairsprays make hair too stiff...that's why I often go to wax instead. Sometimes I add a spray at the end as well though...after the wax. Have you tried the tip of minimizing the bend on the sides to create the illusion of more volume in the temples/top?
Yes. My hairstylist, to whom I've been going for 25 years (she's 20 years younger than me), has always shown me how to minimize fullness on the sides. Only in the past year has she emphasized blow drying the crown area straight up! I call it the "beanie area" . I use round brushes of course. My hair is a little shorter than your model's. I have also started using a great volumizing and heat protecting JELLY. It's Redken Big Blowout. I'm loving it more than my spray and mousse volumizers.
I did some research on a wax that another viewer mentioned that looks great! It looks to have a solid amount of hold without a huge concern of getting to oily and I've had other hairstylist friends who SWEAR by the company that makes it. Here's a link if you want to check it out. amzn.to/3Da3j3V
Jason, this is wonderful! So you emphasize volume in a selected place and the other places, you de-emphasize volume. And you blow dry the front as if you’re doing bangs and do the final styling with fingers. Thank you for the tips on the heat protectant, volumizing product and the high shine hair wax.
I love the Laifen dryer! I ordered one a few years ago on your recommendation, so thanks so much for that! A product I've been loving lately is Kevin Murphy bodybuilder mousse. I have fine wavy hair in a textured bob. I love your tips and tricks!❤
Thank you Justin! With my fine uncooperative hair, this video is exactly what I need. I wish hairdressers would watch this video. The trend I've noticed with the hairdressers I've used over the last ten or so years, is they use very little product and spend very little time styling my hair. My hair goes flat as soon as I walk out the salon door. So disappointing. The price of the haircuts was not low. Is styling no longer typically included in the price of haircuts?
You're so welcome! I hope the video helped a bit! Sorry to hear you're having that experience at the salon. Styling is an important part of the appointment IMO. There are some salons that don't include it but most salons still do.
Find a new salon. I know it’s not easy. I had the same stylist for 25 years before moving several hundred miles away. In 13 years, I had five stylists because I could never find anyone decent (all were recommended). When I retired and we moved to another area, I started with my daughter’s stylist, knowing that she had encountered the same issue. It’s so nice to have a professional.
My stylists seem to emphasize the soft, clean products when I really need lacquer! I need a new stylist who can help me with hair so thin that my scalp shows.
Loved the demonstration !! I would like to see what you do with long hair. I have long, grayish-blond fine hair. I was about to sit on it & tried a long "wolf" cut myself & love it. I cut it straight across the back & that's almost waist length, but the layers now like to fall in my face. It's settling down more now, but need to style it. The curled brush tends to tangle in my hair when I blow dry it. Will try a cooler setting that's less powerful & see if I can use the brush without having to stop to get it out of my hair. Short hair looks horrible on me.
I had a stroke 4yrs ago it left my arm & hand very weak. Sadly, unable to hold my dryer in left hand can only use a blower brush using right hand 🤷🏼♀️ I do my best although the directions in which to use the brush for height did help me 🤗 Have used the Wow volumizer product for years and it definitely works!
Great video - I looked into the heat protectant and mousse and wow they are expensive! I find with such fine, thin hair and sensitive scalp that mousse etc feels really heavy on my scalp and makes it greasy very quickly. I don't like the sensation of product on my scalp so would hesitate to spend so much money and then not use it. Great blow drying tips!
I also have fine thin hair that gets weighed down if I use product. I switched to an OTC shampoo, shampoo and conditioner in one, and saw an immediate improvement. Then just a couple of tiny spritzes of a leave-in conditioner. Really, just a couple. Use your hands to get it through your hair. Then I wait until my hair is almost dry to style it. My sylist already uses most of Justin's tips and they do work. My round brush is my best friend. The first day, it's a little fly-away, but by the second day it's fine. I'm 73 now, and the days when I needed to wash it daily are long gone, along with the dinosaurs. 🥰
I have about the same amount of hair. I'm about her age. No hairdresser ever does it so that it will hold. They will use hairspray, but not enough and it's as flat as a pancake as soon as I leave the salon, no matter how pouffy they manage to get it in a wind-free environment. So! Pat hair dry. Comb. Dry hair with your head forward and upside down and in the opposite directions of where you want it to fall, from the scalp towards the ends - just use your fingers. When almost dry, put in your parting if you have one and use a round brush (that doesn't give you flyaway issues) to "finish off". Use straighteners to give whatever straightness/wave you want - I do bottom layer, then middle layer and then the top layer, always giving volume near the head and not at the ends (in your mind, substitute the round brush with the GHDs - by the time your hair is showing dryness from using those, you're getting it cut, right? because fine hair looks better short - no longer than below chin.) Take fringe forward and gently under towards nose. When you're happy with how straight or wavy your hair is, use a flat, (no flyaway - polypropylene?) brush and brush your fringe BACK. Hold most of it up on the crown of your head, but let some of it gently fall. Still holding it with one hand spray with a very light, easily brushed out spray. Rearrange how you want it - minimal intervention - don't shove your hands all through it - treat it like cake batter - gently. Pull some fronds forward or use the end of a comb or a cocktail stick to floof, separate or whatever, if you need to. Switch to a Freeze Hold spray (the one I use isn't as strong as it used to be, but still works) and spray AT LEAST the top section and a bit of the front to stop it all falling onto your face and turning to rat's tails. I spray it all, but less on the back and sides - more if I know it's windy out there. Don't even bother with anything waxy or gunky. It won't hold your hair in place AT ALL and anything you put IN your hair is going to weigh it down and feel horrible - it might even make a sensitive scalp break out. Good hairsprays will hold your hair enough, but still let it move. Don't even bother with the Gold One - it's rubbish. Sadly, we are not blessed with being able to do that thing where you run your fingers through your hair and it all falls into place like Farah Fawcett and, also sadly, hairspray manufacturers will probably not go out of business whilst we're still around with our flimsy ass hair, but we CAN make it look great! From start to finish, this routine takes me 15 to 20 minutes and I'm not moving fast (take away the hours and hideous amounts of money women spend on having their hair dyed - I don't have to - and it balances out). Hairdressers, beauticians and all the rest are all about the latest thing. They will shame you into changing products to sell new ones ("New" and "Improved" - we've heard it all before). If you find something that works for you, keep doing it. Only change if it's no longer working. The MOST important thing we want from a hairdresser is that the cut is executed beautifully - no fluff and flam - no tricks for the camera - just solid skill (very rare to the point of being almost extinct). I really don't want a hairdresser mussing up my hair for 10 solid minutes in the hope it will fall perfectly into place (and still pray that I don't meet anyone I know on the sprint back to my car). It feels abusive and more about their ego than my haircut, but it also tells me I'm going to have to faff about with it too. PS The lady was lovely - I hope she was genuinely happy with her "do" (but, given that this is all edited, I could probably have done it faster, having had several decades of experience). If only dealing with a bad cut was as easy.
Laifen dryer, check. Topic hair fibers, check. Applicator pump, check... And not a single thing about my hair is like Rachel's (and btw, what a nice lady). Mine is past my shoulders, wavy texture, totally different style. And guess what, I learn so much by watching and listening to options I can use to make my style work as my hair is changing with age (I'm 68). Having solutions that work help me accept the ever evolving version of me... So thanks for that. I never miss a video. I would have liked to see Rachel's hair with some loose curls the way Dionna styles hers.
I have learned so much from your videos. I am happy with my hairdresser as far as my cut and colour go but teaching me how to style is not her strong point. I have had short hair (pixie-ish) for a long, long time and growing it a bit now thanks to what I have learned from your videos. I am still learning/practicing how to use a round brush when drying my hair but I am getting there. I have always been a set it and spray it girl and always said you can't touch my hair after it is styled! I am definitely going to try some of the steps you have in this video.
This was the best hair tutorial I have ever seen, as it addresses everything I need to do to get this look for my hair that has the same length and texture. Thank you so much! I’m a little afraid of the wax, but I’m going to try it. ❤
I love her cut but keep in mind that this is still a professional styling, not at home. It definitely makes a huge difference. My hair is fine but not thin. His ideas of styling helped somewhat.
Just ran across this video. Wow. Stuff to try. My hair has been. Aggravating for the past couple of years. Moved to a new state, finally a stylist that didn't cost me a leg who cut it beautifully, but trying to get with her again is near impossible. My hair has been thinning and no longer does anything it used to. Too many bad cuts are not helping. 🙄 I can't wait to try some of these tips and see what happens.
Justin - this is the tutorial you said was going to be out, and it has an abundance of skill tips. First, i need a hair trim. Unfortunately, my stylists layers look like steps made with a bowl. First cut was good, but i question this. The main tip! Getting my sides not to be over rounded at the bottom...which led me to my helmet head.😢 Great explanation. This style looks very pretty, i will go a little longer. Will i need layers or can a blunt cut also fall in place? If i have to have layers, what type of cut am i asking for? Your hair dryer really lets you control the process. I love it! Down pat with the products i need. Thank you very much! This is exactly what I needed. Love messing with my hair, looking forward to a fresh new style!! Hoping you read the comments, once i have a base hair cut to start, creating will be a joy😊 Love the way you and Dionna are in sync with your videos and life...one cute, strong relationship ❤️ Thank you for all you do , much appreciated ♡
Thanks for the great tip on the hair wax, I have a pixie cut. I have fine hair and just noticed lately I could get any volume and I was was buying different mouse and wax’s to get some volume. I did end up with a matte wax from bed head that’s working and bought a cream styler by AG that’s helping. All of a sudden my hair is soft. I’m going on 59 with coloured hair with some highlights.
That's awesome! So glad you're finding a solution that works! I love the insight on what you're doing! It helps everyone here to know what's working for others!
Thank you so much Justin for another tutorial. I know I do so much wrong with my hair but your tutorials sent me back on track. This lady is so lovely. I would love to see her grow her hair out just a little bit more.❤
Thank you so much! That makes me feel great that you trust me enough to try what I show in my videos. Glad they can help. I agree, she could go a little longer and it would look great as well. Her hair does get thin at the ends quickly with length though, so how much longer is VERY dictated.
What kind of dryer should I use if I can't spend hundreds on your dryer . I love the dryer but am not rich. I learned a lot about how to dry my own thin hair ,watching this video thanks .
I've lost so much hair since I had COVID. My dermatologist says it's " COVID alopecia." Especially at the front hair line. I hate it! My hair was always fine and thin but dang😢 what topic do you recommend? Also, what is the best round brush to use on my fragile hair? It seems every time I've ever tried using a round brush, my hair gets stuck in it. I need help! Also, what is that hair wax brand you use?Thank you for any help you can give. Have a blessed Christmas 🎄
I bought this hair dryer on your recommendation and LOVE it! Were you on high heat when drying to the 80%? I was trying to see if the color was red or yellow/orange on the dryer. You don't list the "wax" brand. I've been searching for one but will take your advice for low shine, more hold. Also, you've probably said it before but this time I really heard you when you said use more product. I am one of those that thinks if I use too much product then it will weigh down my hair. Thanks for a GREAT tutorial!!! Would love to hear your opinion on Root spray!!.....
Thank you so much for the trust! I was drying it on high heat in the video but I would recommend medium at home. I used higher heat because her hair could handle it and we were on a time crunch when filming. It's a Loreal wax. Unfortunately, that's the only one we didn't link because all the links we found were showing it is likely going to be discontinued. If you look for a wax that says "High Hold and LOW (or no) shine" you should be good. It may also say High hold Matte finish. As for products....always use too much, just to see what the boundaries are. Then dial it back slowly to find the perfect amount for your hair! Thanks a ton for the support. I appreciate it!
I did some research on a wax that another viewer mentioned that looks great! It looks to have a solid amount of hold without a huge concern of getting to oily and I've had other hairstylist friends who SWEAR by the company that makes it. Here's a link if you want to check it out. amzn.to/3Da3j3V
Thanks so much for so many valuable tips.👍 Already enjoying the great results of some I started to appy. The blow drying tips are simply fantastic. Love your tutorial videos. 👏 Many blessings.
First thing I realized that I’m doing wrong is attaching the nozzle the wrong way/direction. Resulting in too much bend, perhaps on the sides. I, also, struggle with rotating the round brush while styling which is key to the smooth look. Very informative video!!!
Thanks for the video, Justin, very helpful! Fortunately or unfortunately I just bought a blowdryer brush from another company and really can't afford to buy something else. And Hubby already bought my Christmas gifts or I'd have added this to my list! I use the brush on low speed/heat and use the cool setting when I'm finished. I believe I should be able to use the same techniques, and I'll be sure to use more product in the right places! Thanks again!
Hi Justin… I am an older lady who has always had fine hair however I live at the beach and I am an active swimmer… there is just no way all this product and stying helps me in general… I also personally detest how older/ fine hair is always cut short… as I look around I am usually the only female who has kept my hair below shoulder length and I had to stop going to hairdressers as they ALWAYS want to cut my hair short!!!… Ugg!… my active/fine hair hacks are rinse with my head down so the water leaves my roots up and then twist it up with my fingers and leave in a top knot to dry … when dry I then have lifted roots and volume … it is easy and repeatable on hot days and the best I can do until I find a stylist who can help me do better?!?!!!… i live for the day!
I have very thin/fine hair. I think I could do what you just taught. Which of the Laifen dryers is best for our kind of hair? Thanks so much for showing this!
Is there a video on what products to use and how to style thin curly hair? Plus what products do you recommend to revive the curls between washes and how to use? Thanks so much for your help and advice!
Justin- I love your videos, though I have zero luck doing them myself. I try lots of products in the amount you suggested, but my fine hair always looks greasy when I put products in it. I also tried your “25” and that did the same things. I agree that you might think about trying to have a client style with your supervision. Perhaps I’m not the only one having this problem.
This is a great video. As I have gotten older my hair texture has gotten thinner. I have been trying to find a true flexible hairspray that holds my hair in place that can easily be brushed. I have found nothing that does not cause my hair to get damaged. I am going to try the hair wax technique because I don’t like for my hair to fall in my face and nothing but hairspray seems to work.
Awesome! Thank you! The wax I used was a Loreal wax. Unfortunately, that's the only one we didn't link because all the links we found were showing it is likely going to be discontinued. If you look for a wax that says "High Hold and LOW (or no) shine" you should be good. It may also say High hold Matte finish.
I did some research on a wax that another viewer mentioned that looks great! It looks to have a solid amount of hold without a huge concern of getting to oily and I've had other hairstylist friends who SWEAR by the company that makes it. Here's a link if you want to check it out. amzn.to/3Da3j3V
Have you tried Paul Mitchell Superclean flexible hold? I have the same issue as you and that is the only product I find works with my thin fine hair. Doesn't have much build up so it doesn't weigh the hair down and I can easily brush and restyle without any stickiness. I use the red one, but if you need more hold the black cap one will work but is slightly tackler. Hope this is of help to you.
Love your model's hairstyle and appreciate all your tips. How long does her style last - ie, does she need to wash and style every day or does it last longer than that?
I agree! I've had mine for about a month and I absolutely LOVE it! I'm 78 and been through a lot of different hair dryers. This is absolutely the BEST!! No kidding!

I have fine, thick hair that is thinning at the forehead. Still very thick at the crown and just below. My favorite thing to give the look of volume is to turn my head upside down to blow dry until my hair is almost dry all over. Then I use a curling hair dryer brush to shape around my face and give more lift.
The link is not working for me.
@ thank you so much for the heads up. We’re working on it right now.
@@melaniebuckless5473 we just updated the link. Thanks again for letting us know!
Which one? There are many
I need you to have the client do her own hair, while you supervise, so that we can see how we should do it. You have techniques you can use when you're standing behind and above the head of hair. Us at home need to know how to achieve the same results without removing our head to fix our hair. 😂
I agree
Great idea! The stylist always gets it right. If we can learn it, we will do it 🎉
Agreed!
I would love that. I totally despair trying to emulate these tutorials 😭
YES!
It’s always easier when another person styles your hair ❤️🐾🐾
Exactly!
Its always easier to do someone else's hair
Exactly! I tried blow drying with round brush - after 50 sec my hands fell off and i threw away that brush
Agree!
I tried this method this morning. Even though I didn't have any of the styling products or the tools that were used (round hairbrush, small nozzle) I had so much more volume! I've been walking around with flat lifeless hair for so long, but no more! Thank you so much for this video!
That is amazing to hear! I am happy that you found something that works for your hair!
Did it still keeo the volume when you went outside ?
@@justinhickox And then can I put more wax in the following day? Or will that just weigh it down?
@ depends on the wax. You may not need any the next day. Or you could start with just a tiny bit to help re style and go from there.
Which brand of wax did you use? I could not see which one he used in the products list.
Same question here. What brand did you purchase, and where did you find it?
@@belizehouseforrent6138 I replied to the other person, but I don't know why it was taken away. I bought the TIGI Bed Head Manipulator Matte Hair Wax Paste with Strong Hold from Amazon. I had put the link in the other reply and maybe that's why it was removed.
Yes please provide wax you used. I tried Davines, absolutely no hold for me😢
@@ShellyBrown-g2v I tried putting the brand 2 other times and it's somehow getting removed each time
I had a FABULOUS hairstylist in the 80’s who taught me all about products & styling for my thin fine hair. I get lots of volume with products and using a round brush, and always get compliments on my hair!
I love This lady's grey hair! Stunning! We ladies are not afraid of this. Thanks!
Ohmygosh, if I had as much hair as this lovely lady has, I’d be in heaven!
I've lost much of mine. She just has fine hair.
I came here to say this!!
Me, too! Compared to mine, hers is pretty lush! 😢
Me too
@@bridgetmcmulkin3789 But he is right about combing it forward. It makes mine look better.
👏👏
Yes perfrct
Wow, nice, I'm happy for you !!!
When I do this, it only stays nice for a day, but I can't wash my hair every day so ... Well... That's life
All the best to you
I love to hear that you're trying out the tips and seeing results! I think that's great.
@@victoriafulton3042Thanks for your service!
I love this hair dryer! Light weight, quiet and the attachments are magnetized, so they attach easily. Exceptional design. It's worth the price.
Qual é o preço do secador? 🤔 Please! 💐
Great video again, Justin! Thanks for remembering us thin, fine hair girls. 😊
QUESTION though...for those of us with curly hair into this mix, how should we blow dry our hair? I use a hair dryer/diffuser and scrunch while I'm blowdrying upside down.
Thanks again!
Definitely hope he answers this!! I do believe diffusing upside down is what is most effective but I'm curious about product suggestion.
@Justin_Hickox Was this was meant for another comment?! Looking forward to your reply for the wavy/curly hair. Thank you!! :)
Another curly girl chiming in here - mine is medium thick and fine. I can get volume, but it flattens over time and my curls frizz out. Please help us!
I hope as well that he answers. Tips for curly fine hair please
Great! Thanks! I wish we had a video of this client 2-3 hours later and after she has gone about her normal day.
Exactly, to see if her hair went flat again or not.
I agree. Wind, rain, hats and all that is out the window.
yes, for sure!!
I think she looks quite elegant with her hair completely pulled back. Very few can pull that off and those that can look so classy.
Si asi me lo dejan en la peluquería!la cuestión es encasa😢
My hair is fine with a lots of volume. Straight on top and curly/wavy at the back FML
@@just_a_soul242 if I touch my hair that much I would end up with nothing but frizz I'm trying to add any kind of volume to the top with this mess colors on an option . Usually I have to wet my hair and start all over everyday trying to only wash it twice a week

Hi Dionna!
Great tips for someone else blowing out hair. It doesn't work the same when doing it yourself. You should show us how to do it yourself.
Excellent observation!
I watched How the hairdresser did It and asked her tô teach me. I come close!
If you bend at the waist and blow up at your hair, it has the same effect. But you can see why hairdressers don’t use that technique.
lol - ' don't move - spray it into place' - That is me Exactly!!
Love your videos!
Yep, 50mph hair spray
I lost a lot of hair after Covid, so it's been like this since then. Excited to try these.
Love it.
Boy I been doing my brushing, blow drying, and styling all wrong. Thank you Justin for showing me the correct way.
I have a hairdryer brush but i think it needs a different technique? @@1Melody1963
This video is fantastic. One of my favorite videos of yours. I always watch your video straight through -never fast forward like others. All of your information is pertinent and helpful and not a lot of extra babble like so many people do. Thank you for taking the time to make these. I know I really appreciate them.
Thank you for saying that. I really appreciate it!
Thank you! One of my hairdressers showed me many years ago some of these techniques, yet this tutorial is a technique update. I certainly needed to see the blow-dry technique on the sides. I had stopped using wax because I did not know how to apply correctly. Living in Miami humidity every technique is a plus.
A picture first thing after doing your hair and one day like 12 hours later to see how well it holds would be nice.
Yes, or even a couple of hours after she went outdoors .
No 4 to 5 hrs later in the winter
Looking at the model shown to advertise the video: Washing the gray hair, wearing make-up, snd smiling improved her appearance as much or more than brushing the bangs out of her eyes!
Absolutely! They always have the before picture looking glum, no makeup, jewelry, etc.
She had loads of eye makeup on in the before picture and far less in the after picture. It was the first thing I noticed and she looked so much better with less makeup.
What an incredible advocate you are! So helpful!
Wow, thank you so much!
@@justinhickox Thank you!
I can make my fine hair look like the "after." No problem. Hours later, or as soon as I go outside, it is flat again.
I have the same issue. Wish I could find a fix. Maybe it's the way it's cut??
Wow, this is really skillful and fun to watch. And I enjoyed the two really intelligent people. ✨
Jason, this is wonderful! So you emphasize volume in a selected place and the other places, you de-emphasize volume. And you blow dry the front as if you’re doing bangs and do the final styling with fingers. Thank you for the tips on the heat protectant, volumizing product and the high shine hair wax.
I'm glad you found the video helpful!
The client is a natural beauty her eyes are captivating. I find it very attractive when a woman allows her hair to mature as she does naturally.
@ Years ago, I knew someone who had her hair cut at one salon and left with wet hair for an appointment at another salon for styling.
My stylists seem to emphasize the soft, clean products when I really need lacquer! I need a new stylist who can help me with hair so thin that my scalp shows.
@@joannewelsh961I need lacquer! STAT! 😂
Velcro rollers are easy too. Less time. I can put a couple in dry hair, do my makeup, take the rollers out, volume 🤓
Your hair model is very pretty. She looked great already when her hair was wet and combed back. 😊
My hair is thinner 😢
I love watching your techniques. I learn so much. Thanks! And, btw, your model is just lovely!
Love this video! Easy tips, that u had mentioned before, but the repetitiveness and visual is so helpful, will definitely watch again 🙃💖
OH! It never occurred to me to use wax on long hair! As a fine-haired gal I LOVED it when I had a pixie. Good tips!!
I’m doing the exact same thing! I have learned so much from his videos.
Thank you so much for sharing your talent and hair styling tips with everyone. ❤. Where can I get the fiber spray for gray hair?
This was the best hair tutorial I have ever seen, as it addresses everything I need to do to get this look for my hair that has the same length and texture. Thank you so much! I’m a little afraid of the wax, but I’m going to try it. ❤
Thank you. I learned so much in 10 min than I've have in 50 years.
I can't wait to try some of these tips and see what happens.
Hoping you read the comments, once i have a base hair cut to start, creating will be a joy😊 Love the way you and Dionna are in sync with your videos and life...one cute, strong relationship ❤️
Thank you for all you do , much appreciated ♡
Drying my bang area this way helped tremendously!! I have a small cowlick that drove me crazy and i could never style the front correctly before.
Thank you for your videos, I’ve been watching and learning. Have a great day.🇨🇦
@@b.b7305 You too!
I love this! Thank you for saying it!
She looks great! ❤
Thank you! She's beautiful to begin with so my job was pretty easy!
Excellent! Can't wait to try this.
This is very helpful. I have fine thin hair and have not used a styling cream. I will try it now and also modify how I dry my bangs.
I have a strong widows peak - How would you style the bangs with that?
Thank you for showing us how to use hair paste. Makes a huge difference!
Thanks so much for your videos, just found you and have your video playing while doing my hair, looks so much better, so thank you
I bought this hair dryer on your recommendation and LOVE it!
Loving your videos ~ at 69, my hair is thin and finer than usual!! Learning to style for best look ~ THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks so much for so many valuable tips.👍 Already enjoying the great results of some I started to appy. The blow drying tips are simply fantastic. Love your tutorial videos. 👏 Many blessings.
I love Rusk it's styling products work great
First thing I realized that I’m doing wrong is attaching the nozzle the wrong way/direction. Resulting in too much bend, perhaps on the sides. I, also, struggle with rotating the round brush while styling which is key to the smooth look. Very informative video!!!
I'm glad you found it helpful!
And this isn't Scott, it's his wife Sue 😁
I have always joked that I need to go style my 3 hairs. From your video I feel I have more hair and volume. Thank you.
Helpful advice. Ive got heaps of products i dont know how to use 😄
Thank you, and I will use your tips!!!
This is great! What technique to use on days 2&3 to refresh?
I use my hands a lot when styling , works every time !!!
I have very thin/fine hair. I think I could do what you just taught. Which of the Laifen dryers is best for our kind of hair? Thanks so much for showing this!
Is there a video on what products to use and how to style thin curly hair?
Plus what products do you recommend to revive the curls between washes
and how to use?
Thanks so much for your help and advice!
Justin- I love your videos, though I have zero luck doing them myself. I try lots of products in the amount you suggested, but my fine hair always looks greasy when I put products in it. I also tried your “25” and that did the same things. I agree that you might think about trying to have a client style with your supervision. Perhaps I’m not the only one having this problem.
my fav hack is to use distilled water or R.O. (reverse osmosis) water for the final rinse when I wash my hair. Adds incredible volume.
Thx 4 doing these videos very helpful!!!😊
Great Tips! Looks really good on lady but for those with a thin/long face needs volume on sides!
Justin I always love your videos! What was the name of the matte hair wax you used? Thanks and have a blessed holiday😊
Justin, I bought the Laifen hair dryer because of a prior recommendation from you. I have loved it, too! I think it was two years ago now.
I have one. The best. Makes me happy.
It's a great dryer! I appreciate that it's quiet, lightweight and it lasts.
Omg!! I needed that information.. going through super thin hair area.. will definitely try this out ❤
This is a great video.

@@justinhickox Thank you for the great suggestion. I am going to try it.
@@AK-lv1ko I will check it out.
Best thin hair video I’ve seen 😮❤
Thank you! I'm so glad it was helpful!
Fabulous tips - thanks Justin!! I have a straight cut bob with fine hair - I reckon I can still use all of these tips easily...😁
You can definitely try them out and see how they work for you!
@@justinhickox thank you I will! In Australia so I'm not sure your super quiet hairdryer is available...the tips and tricks are logical and seem easy!
Great tips! You make it look easy and actually doable.
Thank you! I'm glad you found them helpful.
Love your model's hairstyle and appreciate all your tips. How long does her style last - ie, does she need to wash and style every day or does it last longer than that?
Great question Sadie. If you get an answer, please let me know.
Love my Laifen dryer that I bought after viewing here and got it on sale! Best dryer I have ever owned!
I agree! I've had mine for about a month and I absolutely LOVE it! I'm 78 and been through a lot of different hair dryers. This is absolutely the BEST!! No kidding!
My hair is medium brown and fine on top, i find the brunette dry shampoo adds texture and disguises my scalp
Thank you for the tips!! I discovered toppix recently and I love it!!
