Honestly, before the content vault, F2P destiny 2 was a very good experience, there was alot of things to do even without DLC
I think most of it had to do with the fact that aside from the base game you got mememind, meme of Osiris, and red war which gave you stories and a bit of content to do compared to now.

There was a lot to do but you had no clue how to start anything it what you were supposed to do. This one is on the right track telling you about the games functions but it definitely needs a lot of work

My favorite part of the New Light campaign is when they lock you in a cage so that you’re forced to learn how to open the map and fast travel.

@Scrota, Sack of Oryx I mean, my K/DA ratio is only like 1.9, and I got the Flawless title with LFGs, usually placing top of the team. A team based mode is a much different environment than out of control gun fights
I started F2P destiny in April this year. Last season was actually pretty good for a F2P experience to be honest
where you paid before?
Me 2, season of arrivals had 3 raids and 1 dungeon, now we have 0 raids and 0 dungeon

@@BSUxFAN29 nope, I never played destiny 2 until this year. I wanted it for ages but didn't want to pay for the base game and all dlc. F2P last season was perfect as you got the base game and all past expansions, so loads content to do from when you first start.

I'm gonna be honest the first mission of Shadowkeep is the reason I bought the expansion, that fateful turn when you see the Pyramid ship for the first time was the most hype shit ever.

I love byf and all but as someone who started playing d2 when it first went f2p in shadowkeep that video makes no sense whatsoever unless you specifically only watch the parts about humanity (like the golden age etc.) first and then play the game *a bunch* and then watch the rest of the video bc the books of sorrow and the marasenna are not great places to start a new player

I don’t know if it’s nostalgia but I think the red war was a better intro
not just nostalgia, it was categorically better because the story made sense, the systems were built around that story and there was actual continuity with it, now you have a dead character narrating an intro that has no relevance to anything you do in game, a new character that was just made up on the spot to fill the gap of the people who filmed and voiced all the cgi cutscenes in red war.
@@rogoth01themasterwizard11 plus there was actual missions and some sort of story that's not half assed (red war wasn't great but it still had some consistently) you could level up by blues and some legendary while getting risk runner along the way. Then curse of osiris would be on mucury (which would be new and "fun" to them) so it wouldn't be a problem, then warmind would introduce mars and more "story" which would still be more compelling then walk around the cosmodrome for 2 hours.
Even after having played through red war and some seasons after, I only began to understand the lore after watching My Name Is Byf's videos lmao
TBH, the only reason I understood the story is because I took the time (a lot of time) to read all of the grimoire during my spare time in High School. At this point, may as well send them to Byf. That one 4 hour video + the season of arrivals catch-up is basically all you need. Just... don't tell them to watch the whole thing in one sitting lmao.
You could understand a lot more of the story and what’s kinda going on if you play destiny 1

@@JM1992 idk I like that you have to figure out more pieces of the story through lost artifacts and pieces, it really brings a sense of "Oh shit there's more stories than just mine in this universe" and besides the campaigns imo told me everything i needed to know

I just installed it for the holidays and there's no campaign besides the 1 hour intro mission. Bungie expects newcomers to pay for DLC without experiencing the stories that built up to them.

I'm on complete F2P (no season pass either) rn, I literally have no other dlc's other than the one's that came with new light, kinda sucks since I can't get any new exotics, play any new raids, no stasis, etc. I rarely play it now because there is not much to do, even with the activities available it gets old fast
Personally I don’t see much problems with f2p but with the removal of most of the planets it’s kinda hard not to be limited by dlc for things to do.
I think the main problem with it is that if you have been playing since d1 theres been a consistent story for over 6 years. Then in d2 up until now there was a consistent story even if you didn’t play d1. But now there isn’t really a story. As much as people criticize the d1 launch story it still led to this point we’re at now.

d1 story was still an upgrade from vanilla, back when you had to grind out every destination and the campaign in a row to get your first sparrow.....or open lootboxes until you got one

This season it would be ass to play for free but i was a free 2 play player last season when i started and it was actually good because you got all the free DLCs to play though. But i did end up buying beyond light and forsaken later along with the season pass for the 2 seasons i have played so far. overall as a new player i would give the pve an 8 and the pvp a 4 or 5 out of 10.

I stopped playing just after the release of the Dreaming City and have come back for Beyond Light. And I must say the explanation of what to do, where to go and how to unlock important features is a lot less self explanatory than I was when I had played

I was f2p from august right until the launch of beyond light, and thr experience was great to be honest. Having the red war campaign and around 100 extotics to hunt was great. Not to mention prophecy and leviathan.

I really hope it's not. As a paying player, I do think the the new light experience is severely lacking and they need more. The raid can help with that so I hope they don't lock it behind a paywall. At least, the raid should be difficult with the weapons that new light players can obtain.

They should have an option where you can play through the old campaigns but only for those specific missions and otherwise cannot go to the removed planets.

A couple of repurposed old story missions to introduce new players to at least EDZ and Nessus would have probably been a good idea. Maybe an exotic quest on each destination too.

Same. Also all the specific loot from that dlc's is useless now. Same goes for the dungeon loot, there is no reason to play them now. You only get sunset stuff. At this point they could make it free to play, so newbys can atleast enjoy some good content to get them into the game.
A few of my friends and I bought Forsaken expecting to be able to do exotic quests, only to find they were removed. The story had some interesting bits, but a GOOD chunk of it was just a grindfest and not super fun.
If Forsaken was any good I was thinking about buying the other expansions. But... Like I have no clue what the point was to Forsaken in the first place. I feel like it was a waste.

Oh btw. the quest for Wishender should still be there. I still have it in my inventory and the bow ist not in the kiosk. Its atleast something to do.
@@Blueroyal3 We did do the Wish-Ender quest, and it is a decent dungeon. We were still expecting a bit more from it. A trial run to see if the content was worth it. We purchased it on half price.
But the content doesn't match the value.
I'm hoping Bungie does better in the future, and the expansions aren't so expensive for such a low amount of content, or content they're just going to remove.

I played d2 since 2017, and Im sad to see the old campaign, the red war, gone. dissapointing that my memories are all i have left of those days
I got into f2p in like June and I almost rage quit the entire game by how confusing it was. Tried to make my friends play it but they just left.
it sucks that you have to re-buy DLCs once you migrate to PC. i've been playing on PC for about a year now and it's so damn annoying when someone asks me to raid with them on PC and i say i can't, only on xbox

as an f2p player its definitly dull, like there is literally nothing to do. the only endgame content available is nfs which are also not available90% of the time. yea last season f2p was much better
a dungeon comes back in a few days and reprised Vault of Glass comes in a season or two. definitely not what it used to be but still pretty ok
@@jWeslo no cap man. People need to understand that while sunsetting sucks, it'll eventually balance the content and loot in a couple of seasons. Not ideal, but not the absolute worst either

I know they could easily bring back exotic khvostov seeing as we already have the common version in the game and now we get it the exact same way as in d1

@@Tythecodeguy it's better than getting a gun that A: You probably already have if you're a veteran B: Is a world drop C: That you can literally buy from Xur. Khvostov is not only a better introduction to exotics for new lights, but a lot of veterans like myself would love to see it return and it could possibly be a good weapon in pvp since you can switch between firing modes and rpms (600 rpms are still good and it can return as the only auto that can shoot at 900 rpm)

When I got to the third mission in D1 it scared me and I didn’t do it until i saw a gameplay of it and realized the jump scares were just thralls
In short: no. There are no raids, so endgame pve is out of the question, and pvp wont be fun getting constantly frozen when you cant do it yourself. The only f2p content is really the story and strikes

Bungie deciding it's going to kill core activities and turn all world loot into one engram is why playlist activities suck. D2 went F2P in the kind of time frame that games of previous generations would drop down to $20-30.
DCV and sunsetting has killed Destiny.
Removing content to sell it back to players is killing destiny.
Thousands of player payed money for what was originally part of F2P. That's gone for everyone.

The f2p experience was actually decent before beyond light considering you had leviathan raids and the prophecy dungeon you could do but with the addition of beyond and the removal of ¾ of the older content the game right now for f2p is just public events,bounties,strikes and free roam as well as crucible if you dont mind being screwed by stasis and gambit but no one likes gambit

I was free to play for a few weeks and it was fun, my cousins bought me both dlcs for my birthday and I beat forsaken and shadow keep campaign and I think the reason why I really got into it durning season of arrivals even though the season itself didn’t provide a lot was that I did have all the campaigns and content from them to do.

I had all dlcs in D1, I preordered D2 with the season pass, never bought forsaken or shadowkeep as I couldn't afford it. Before BL the game without main dlcs was okey, but now there is literally nothing to do, gonna go back to D1, bungie grabbed my money and spit on my face, this is really sad and it's not good for the game.

I have f2p account which I made in shadowkeep. After I've done with my main i play with that f2p account. I've grinded and I've gotten all the seals for raids; shadow enlightened blacksmith rivensbane. And even went flawless many times in trials. Will start playing again after i maxed out my main this season. Btw im on xbox

They should've just made Forsaken campaign and content f2p, that way New Lights would have an actual story to play through, and a raid. Shattered Throne should also give pinnacle loot and should be f2p. Like it's not hard lmao

Very true, when I played beyond light campaign and then played the others I found out crow was uldren, tho I think moon campaign was not good. Getting the xenophage made up for it but damn that quest was hard and complicated, which has steered me away from finishing the divinity quest.

I like the neo-Gambit changes, truthfully. My problem is those QoL changes should've come the season after Joker's Wild, or when Shadowkeep dropped.

@@MATT-660 I once heard a great solution for tuning invasion with heavy without killing off Heavy Scavenger builds for ad clear. When you cross the portal, your excess ammo is taken away until you return. Of course the ammo would be tuned to each weapon type. For example, I would be down with 2 rockets in an invasion if the frequency of invasions isn't oppressive. The issue would be Exotics like Xeno, because if it follows a strict half clip example, other LMGs would range from okay to sub-optimal in usefulness for invasion but Xeno would still have 6 or 7 shots, not really changing anything about it's potential oppression. It's a lot of work for Bungie, but QoL changes won't matter if the sandbox is a frustrating experience to go through
