With that whole instant gratification discussion I agree. The witch queen legend campaign took me 12 hours to beat solo on day 1. I felt like i was back playing cod memorizing the enemy spawns and conserving ammo. It was a hell of a fun time doing it because i was invested in the story heavily but finishing that campaign was one of the best feelings.

My biggest issue so far as a returning player has got to be the whole “raffle system” nonsense you have to play with ADA-1 in the tower for gear mods. I don’t understand why something so integral to build-crafting is being gatekept by the game itself instead of being more accessible to players by dropping in game like everything else. I can’t go a single RUclips build video without someone saying something along the lines of “you need WELLS to make this work” it’s extremely frustrating. New or returning, the accessibility of gear mods needs to be addressed. no one wants to wait months at a time to get mods that they need just for FUN endgame build-crafting

    • @cykeok3525
      @cykeok3525 2 года назад +19

      I completely agree with this.
Destiny actually has very solid depth to its buildcrafting now, between subclass/aspects/fragments/stats/exotic weapon/exotic armor/weapon perks/combat style mods.
Therefore, someone who hasn't played Destiny before, but has played a lot of other hyper-complex buildcrafting games, get pretty excited when they see the build options that Destiny 2 has right now.
However, when they find out that there's a RANDOM TIMEGATE, with a timescale of MONTHS OR YEARS, on completing their option set for the most interesting part (combat style mods), it's an instant turn-off.
If they discover this before they've invested a cent in the game, it's often an uninstall moment.

Literally September 12th she sold a well mod that makes them MOVE towards players. I missed it because I was doing Beyond Light on a new character and a raid and didn't bother going today because she wouldn't sell anything decent or at least that I don't have.
Then lo and behold I hop off and check my phone and Zavalr made a video about it. I'm not getting a chance for that mod in months, and new players wouldn't have known about it at all. Honestly buff the prices to 15k and have the selection all there to just pick and choose what you want.

    • @cykeok3525

@@vexcine I just realized what the worst part was when a dude asked me what Combat Style mods I'm still looking for a while ago (cos he's waiting for Ada to sell a few important ones)...
I absently answered without thinking that I already had all the mods.
He asked how long it took to get them from Ada, but I've actually never bought a mod from Ada before.
At that point I realized how fucked up the system is. It's almost as if they DESIGNED it for newer players to get pissed and wonder if they should quit the game.
The point is, players who have already been here just got it from the season that they dropped, you didn't even have to complete any PvE or PvP achievement to get all of them early.
Then as for new players, there's no reason for bungie to goad them that way. It's not like they can go back in time 2-3 years and decide to start Destiny earlier.
Daily mod sale does NOT increase "player engagement" by encouraging logon every day.. if your game is good, people would do this already.
So.. what's the point of the slow-ass Ada/Banshee mod sale system?!

    • @vexcine
      @vexcine 2 года назад +5

@@cykeok3525 I don't mind day to day exclusive purchases, but we have Xur.
Big point on that, all exotics he can sell you can get as a random drop already, except for DMT and Hawkmoon which have random rolls, but is there EVERY week for 4 DAYS GUARANTEED.
Also sells a set of sunset armor for rolls and cosmetic appeal, as well as random guns for fun or the occasional God roll.
We do not need 2 more vendors that sell day to day exclusives that won't appear for months. If they had a catalog where I can just buy them for 15-20k each and every week 30-50 of them go for 5-10k each then I'd be okay with that. Or just keep the current system, but let me obtain them buy playing and dismantling stuff. And yes, you can get reloader mods and scavengers and basic stuff. But I'm not getting that well mod for months, and that's ridiculous.
Mods are an important part of Destiny and its build crafting and shouldn't be gatekept to "8 a day, Goodluck with the raffle!"

    • @cykeok3525
      @cykeok3525 2 года назад

@@vexcine Yeah that's what I was thinking, just sell all of them at once.
Even if they want to make it random, it should be something like 20+ at once, so that the max wait for any particular mod is only 2-3 weeks at most, not MONTHS of waiting.
Selling all of them at once is better though definitely
If they don't want to do Glimmer, then just add some basic quest or bounty (that people can finish through normal gameplay) to get tokens to buy the mods, or something (since Bungie has a perpetual hard-on for "player engagement").
The present method is the worst. An indeterminate RNG time gate that may last for months is unforgivable, because no one can do anything about it except pointlessly, helplessly wait.

What i noticed from many new lights complaining is that they don't know who Cayde-6 was and everything what has happened to this day "The Red War and Forsaken". It would be much better when you get to the tower and you have interacted with every vendor etc in the tower, Zavala summons you to meet him, then he just says "you might not know as a new guardian what has happened, let me tell you" and then the game shows you a brief cut scene on everything what has happened. The cabal invasion and the red war, firsaken etc. They have done this with Lord Saladin, Saint-14 and Zavala. Why can't they just do this? Came back D2 launch date, expecting better, was the same. I played the game, and I played through Last Wish (actively played until first DLC after I heard it was absolute garbage and affirmed my worst fears of the game).
This all said, I jumped back on after seeing the new trailer. Keep in mind, I'm no fool to the magic trickery of bungie's trailers.....
I have no idea what anything means, where anything is, what the heck happened to my stuff, items unusable, no way to upgrade my stuff (because im missing something I've never heard of, that never used to be required), and I barely could beat the first step of the quest for Gjallarhorn (which is yet another sold-back to us exotic).

    “The enemies fall like paper.”
WHICH IS WHY WE NEED harder enemies that have more health, BUT ALSO do not one tap Guardians on said tougher content. There needs to be an escalation on enemy difficulty on just adds. Bosses can just be as tough as they are, but make the minions be a legitimate threat. The challenge of an encounter is not just the boss, but the room as a whole. To this day, I still consider the Prophecy dungeon one of the best and the Duality because the enemies were a constant threat. And if they just made some of the red bars an orange, hell yes, give me that challenge that fits the reward at the end of it.
But they should also bring back Heroic Strikes as the default at a certain power level as a nice medium of the two of strikes and nightfalls.

I'm a long time fan, I own all the content releases, I've played every expansion so far, of both D1 and D2. This game has made such a fantastic impact on my life, I've made so many friends and made even more memories. But not being able to play with my friends who've never played because they don't know what to do, have no story to understand what to do, have to grind to get the new subclasses fragments and aspects, mods, etc. I can't, in good conscience, recommend this game to any new players.
There needs to be something to keep people on track. Remake the vanilla D2 campaign if you have to, just make it playable for people. And cut the glimmer costs to like 2,500, not 25,000. No new player wants to grind gLiMmEr for hours.

I then played with it a couple of times and was met with the hollow feeling of “now what”. Sweat literally just spoke my mind, grinding the game for weapons like recluse and mountaintop, or 21% delirium and wendigo, when I was noticeably worse at the game, made actually getting those weapons SO much more rewarding. Now that I’ve done many clears of raids, dungeons, gm’s, flawless trials cards, etc. I feel like I’m not chasing anything anymore. I’m honestly just playing dares of eternity just to try and get red border weapons. Playing with new lights, and sort of guiding them through the various activities that destiny holds has almost filled that void for me though. Taking my little brother and a few of my friends through has been a really fun time. It was probably too simplistic but they’ve completely changed what the game was from when it initially came out.

In my perfect world, the new light experience is a dozen hour combination of cutscenes and missions that covers the entire story from D1 to current. Think about being able to have a new Guardian actually experience killing Crota, fighting SIVA, killing Oryx(Kind of), watching Cayde die, etc. I think the whole thing could be done in 20-30ish strike-like missions, scaled to be doable by a blueberry, with the gaps filled by high quality cinematics.
Like I said, this is my perfect world, and I am sure there are tons of issues with this idea that i dont see, not being a game dev myself. But it would be awesome. Instead of having to tell my friends joining the game "if you are interested in the lore go watch a 3 hour lore guide by this guy named MyNameisByf", I could just say "Click on the "start your journey" tab, and go live it, Guardian." Good lord, so much better.

As someone who came to the game about a year ago, I can say that originally the game was hard to navigate, as I had little experience. The extent of my Destiny knowledge was pretty much the controls and some of the story, as I had played D1 more casually. I think that the New Light quests definitely put me headed in the right direction, but I definitely needed to consult RUclips videos, as well as the Destiny discord for help to get me to the point where I was able to confidently get through endgame content. I think that the current New Light is good, but you definitely need outside resources if you want to get to the point where I am at now, being able to plow through easy things likes strikes, low level Nightfalls, etc. As well as be able to hold my own in things like raids, Grandmasters, and other end game content. I think that with the in-game LFG, commendations, and guardian ranks coming in Lightfall. The days of needing to watch guides and other things to get to the end game will be no more.

14:37 Final Fantasy XIV in my opinion does this perfectly. You work and learn the class and role you are in. You learn how to optimize everything and can go into dungeons and even raids base. You can run into a raid with others but it won't go too well and there might be problems if you go in without knowing or learning how to play/ know the encounters. But if you go through and take the time you get better at playing and weaving your abilities and encounters together to do the very best you and your job can do. Today people want instant gratification and it hurts to see everything being tailored to this mindset.

Well said. I'm a huge fan of slow building RPG games with great stories. In fact I still currently play final fantasy XIV online so I have the patience to get through destiny. I just recently tried destiny today after not playing it for almost 4 years and I absolutely hated the experience. The game tries so hard to rush through so much and then it's constantly hitting you with pop-ups to buy expansion and to buy currency. I played it for 2 days and uninstalled it after I logged in the second day and it was showing me the cut scene to the witch expansion. I had no idea who any of the characters were on screen, I have no idea what the f*** was going on. At that point I was like "if you're not willing to let me go through your story and experience it and get attached to these characters why should I care."

My friend and I bought Destiny 2 when it was released, played through the Red War campaign and reached level 20, and promptly quit because we got bored. I returned when Forsaken launched, and it's only during the last week that I've convinced my friend to give the game a go again. So far, he's really enjoying it, but guiding my friend through the game I have to say that last post hit the nail on the head for a lot of issues the New Light experience has.
I've been letting my friend try to discover as much of the game as he can by himself - such as by letting him take the lead on what quest or activities we do. One issue we encountered was the Transmog intro quest has you go to Europa, but my friend couldn't because there were no selectable landing zones, and no clear way to start the Beyond Light campaign to unlock them (as I suspected was required). We tried having me as the fireteam lead to take us there, but once we got to where the quest told him to go, there was nothing there to interact with and the quest appeared to be bugged. That's just one example, but there's been a plethora of confusing quests and lack of direction for what he should do.
All that said, I took him through a run of Prophecy and he thoroughly enjoyed it and has kept him coming back for more, which just goes to show that the dungeon/raid content is hands down the best content to experience in the game (imo).

Whilst I enjoyed the first 15 mins of this video, I noted the poor streamer defence that I see often. The goal of a game is to enjoy your time with it, not be mandated to improve your skill at it to validate your playtime/enjoyment of it. Skill level will come naturally yes, but people have different levels and different tolerances and casual players who you and I probably don't relate much to don't view games the same way. I follow someone called JoshStrifeHays and he speaks about something that I agree with, with strife comes accomplishment and self-reward. Possibly said better "To overcome something that is challenging for the player" This creates the most memorable moments and satisfaction for players. Streams and Hardcore endgame players push that content to it's limits hence day one raids the difficulty they are, because Bungie know who they're catering to the most and those players know they need whatever advantage they can get (Div) to overcome the challenge taking into account what weapons and gear players have to pull from. The new content coming out isn't easy if you've only picked up the game in the past 1 or 2 seasons, if it is, Master mode exists for those players looking to push a Guardian and fireteam. If it's too hard you can get carried with good teams as you bring up your mechanical skills and understanding however that Is much harder to get as unless you're lucky to have friends, you have to KTWD vs an already established endgame player just doing Master raids. As a endgame player myself, I respectfully think you need to revaluate your stance on the existence of games outside of hardcore players.

It could help them through the game, stuff like "go do this campaign, go do this dungeon, go try out a nightfall, go do the seasonal stuff." This would also really benefit from the in game LFG we're getting in Lightfall.
Also, I feel like they should make a F2P campaign that introduces you to all the enemy factions, gives you all the subclass stuff, and generally, helps you understand what's going on. I can guarantee that the people saying "challenge is for elitists" have never played D1. It's why TTK will always be mine, and many others, favourite Destiny DLC ever.
Destiny 1 was challenging but fair, and it avoided the problem of instant gratification. If you wanted something, you had to work for it. One example I use is exotic quests, especially raid exotics. Going through the slog of getting 45 Calcified Fragments, doing King's Fall multiple times, and doing the final secret quest to finally get Touch of Malice is a feeling I wouldn't have traded for the world. Now you get it from a chest at the end of the raid.
I also hate the fact that you have to do legend and master lost sectors *solo* for a *chance* at getting a *random* piece of exotic armour. There was nothing better in D1 than randomly doing a Crucible match and getting an exotic, mainly because they were rare. Now you're stuck grinding the same thing over and over again for the chance to get an exotic.
It sounds hypocritical at first, but things like the Touch of Malice were few and far between. Now, all new exotic armour pieces are locked behind these lost sectors, adding unnecessary grind.

I started playing D2 again during the free week at the beginning of Season of Plunder. Left during season of armory because it was just me and 1 other friend. Managed to convince him and another to get on and try it out.
The new guy had all the same troubles as the New Light post. As did me and my veteran friend (started at launch/beta, whatever).
I was broke (in game) before, now I'm barely scraping by. Everytime I get on, I have to beg the Cryptarch for 10,000 glimmer- being careful not to trade all of my diminishing planetary resources.
What little I earn back in activities immediately goes to something to buy, upgrade, just whatever. Sometimes I can't even afford Bounties.
My other two friends just stopped after free week was up, since none of us had the fortune to buy all the DLCs. I absolutely do not blame them, especially the New Light. He didn't understand what was going on, but he liked the gameplay. Sadly, none of us have ever done a D2 Raid. I really wanted them to do one, but they didn't like the idea of putting up a group post only for some Elitists to come in. Also, the popups for DLCs and whatever else are a little excessive.
I had to re-buy Forsaken for some reason. Had it 2 years ago. I can't get Season of Risen stuff without buying the Deluxe Witch Queen. I have the DLC, but not the Deluxe. If only there were an upgrade I could get.
I've been having fun, nonetheless. I joined a clan with my brother after he started playing again, and the first raid I've ever done in D2 was Vault. Yeah, great. Since then I've done Kings Fall, Graden (got Div) and Vow. Still haven't done Last Wish, but I really want to. Don't have Beyond Light for DSC, but Stasis sucks anyway.

About the content issue, the main problem people always skip over is D2s engine. The engine they made the game on is too big. So big, that you need 10x the amount of devs to make new content. When you work with a small engine, like world of warcraft, final fantasy or elder scrolls online, you can put out a bunch of content in a small amount of time, even with a small team.
Sure the game will look worse, but bugs will be non-existent and functionality will be stable.
Bungie chose to make their game on a massive engine, which is great for a single player game that's only made for a few missions. But for an MMO??? That is torture. Big engine's should only be used for small games, not for an MMO or an RPG that you regularly have to update and maintain.

Nighthawks super regens like 30% on a kill so it leans more into what some would consider it a champion execution tool. Issue is the damage is like 2/3 of a champions hp on master difficulty, and even then (and currently now with these modifiers that give arc and stasis recharge out the ass) enemies literally fall over.

7:18 I think this is why Byf has long been one of the most popular destiny content creators becasue he gives you the lore for the game in a mostly engaging way, with cool art and other visuals to back it up and show what it couldve looked like. For me Byf is really the only reason I know any lore outside of whats in game

I agree with the story of Destiny being told in a terrible way and should appear in-game. One of the biggest complaints people have always had about Destiny is that the cool story moments were happening in text we had to go out of our way to read and not in-game where we were getting the lamer stories. And then you add ON TOP of that the stories of the seasons needing to be paid for and played within a small window of time for you to even have any understanding of the next big yearly expansion where you're already paying full price for that. It has never not been terrible that the seasons aren't just free with the expansions. How tf is this game supposed to be "free-to-play" when you're forced to buy every little thing individually for such a high price and then be told "you have to do it within this amount of time and then it's gone forever." How is anybody in the future ever gonna even be able to come back through the Destiny series and play it when more than half of the game isn't even able to be played, so you're jumping in and out of moments you CAN play wiht no context to what's going on in them.

In regards to 17:25, I totally agree. I used to play destiny a lot and my favourite experiences have always been things like figuring out spire of stars, whisper of the worm and doing all the secrets hidden around on planets. Its a lot of fun jumping into things that are really hard and slowly figuring out how to accomplish them. Even more, it's fun when it's still a challenge even when you know.
I didnt opt to continue with destiny when witchqueen came out, as I was waning in interest since beyond light. A friend did end up buying it for me so I've jumped in here and there. As a kind of disconnected player, destiny feels like it's put all the cards on the table, and they've been there for awhile now. There's been some cool things in the campaign but anytime I venture out of it, I'm quickly reminded why I left. I think destiny shines in moments where theres pressure on the player to use their power to the fullest to get through hard situations. Thinking specifically of how my friends and I went through so many variations on our builds to squeak enough damage out for WOTW. I've kinda felt it again, coming back to the new subclasses. but not to the extent that I feel a compulsion to return.
I also think the instant gratification discussion is really interesting to me since I'm studying concept art atm. Any sort of creative field is bound to give very little in the way of instant gratification. It tends to orient you more to see the value of the journey. Being "bad" is only just an opportunity to reflect and grow but destiny, to me, feels like it doesnt really afford a comfortable space to be bad in. I havent dont much high end content since I'm exclusively a solo player now but just from watching and hear others, it feels like there isnt really a progression of difficulty that reflects your knowledge of the mechanics. Rather, just making things have more health or more champions.
Granted, take everything I say with a grain of salt. I dont really play the game much anymore so I could just be kinda out of touch with it XD

I think the best way to fix a part of the New Light problem would be to make a campaign where you play through key missions from past campaigns and seasons (D1 and D2 both) and see important cutscenes. This could all be guided by master Rahool or something cause he’s a historian of sorts. This would help catch people up on the story. I don’t know what to do for the gameplay.

The new experience is horrendous, I had to sit in the literal same room to tell him where to go and what to do since the game drops you in the tower and gives you scraps of info. It’s absolutely mind boggling that they don’t teach about mods (especially Champ and well mods) since those are integral to gameplay. Even in MM NF’s I’m lucky to see any of my teammates running a single champion mod. They need to backtrack and have missions that teach about those mods, teach about champs, and give good non redundant tips like “if you press R/X/square you reload :D”

There's a guy in my clan who just started playing 2 or 3 seasons ago, who plays quite a bit, and we've gotten up to speed to the point of raiding with us and stuff. But he was asking what exotic to buy from the kiosk, and I had him discord stream his screen to me. He had almost NO EXOTICS. There's definitely a problem with the new exotics being hidden behind lost sectors, and for new players it seems like the chance to randomly get old exotics is super low.

you can get so much glimmer from turning in destination materials. I spent like 6 hours running around in the dreaming city farming Baryon Bough and earned enough glimmer trading it in to buy all the fragments for warlock and finish the half of the fragments I was missing on hunter. People don't spend much time running around in open world collecting materials because we get funneled into activities, which doesn't get as much glimmer.

Like I get that they need to pay for the things I've already paid for but nothing takes the wind out of a new players sails more than getting ready for an activity only to see that red text box pop up saying "requires *insert DLC here*".

Now that I’m coming back it is a struggle to get into that story, and I really don’t like just watching a RUclipsr like byf explain it all to me. You can’t go through any of the previous seasons content to get that story and we’re missing everything pre shadowkeep. I’d really like for all of that content to come in with optional downloads so I can delete what I am done with/don’t want to play. Hell I’d even pay for the passes that I never got to play and also level up their season passes that I missed, kinda like the system Halo has where I can still level up those old passes but I choose what one I’m working towards.

I hadn't played destiny since 3 years ago. I tried it out yesterday and I could only stand it for 2 days. The shooting mechanics are great, I even liked the way they updated the classes. My problem was that I had no idea what the hell was going on. The game feels like if tries so hard to make you buy the expansions and rush you through it that I was completely lost. The following day when I booted the game up to give it a second try it opened with a cutscene for the witch expansion. I was done. Who were these characters they were showing me, what was this magic the girl was using, who was the villain in the ship showing up? I hadn't even finished the starting area the previous day and here it was already trying to get me into the next part of the story.
As I sat there confused it only gave me two options to start the expansion on hard or normal mode. Didn't have an option to go back to my ship and continue where I left off or maybe a library so I can read up on the characters, just write to it.
If the game didn't care about presenting its story to me in a coherent fashion so I can get attached to these characters and want to continue then why the f*** should I care?
At that point I uninstalled it and just went back to playing final fantasy XIV.

My biggest pet peeve is hopping on to kwtd post expecting an easy quick raid, when oh wait someone can’t do x position and needs to be taught, someone only watched a video, someone doesn’t put on optimal damage for no reason, someone only knows how to do ad clear, etc. The term kwtd has lost all meaning and I have to get toxic to people that ignore it now because they are blatantly disrespecting me and the other players when they join a kwtd post when not knowing.

1 minute in Sweat coming out with the "Well *my* student loans weren't paid off so why should theirs!" argument. I farmed for the Forerunner catalyst, and I think it's cool they gave us red borders and an updated perk pool at all and will have no problem farming for them when I want to. As it is I already have a bunch of good rolls and trying to farm other weapons so it's a nice long-term investment considering I paid for the 30th anniversary.
