UPDATE 04/11 - I got my replacement sticker sheet, and it's still the initial version. If you want to have the new one, then I suggest to wait a bit, customer service has no visibility unfortunately which version is sent out from the warehouse at the moment.
@@rickretro4687 I'll post a detailed video about it once the new studio is ready to be filmed. These are BILLY cabinets from IKEA, the lights are custom made by me.
It would have been better if they changed the tyres altogether and have printing directly on it, rather than having these garish plates sticking out to the side.
Lego (Technic) tires are some of the most expensive (non-electric) components in any given set. I own the model and sponsorship logos are of low interest to me. I believe Lego chose these tires because 1) they existed from previous models, 2) New molds are VERY expensive, and 3) F1 cars need traction, even for play, you don't want the tires to slide and not power the internals. I get that F1 fans are passionate about details, but you are asking for something unrealistic. Get the 1:18 scale models from Spark (or whatever) if accuracy is your thing.
@@article3enthusiast you know that the current tyres having tread results in less contact with the ground and slicks provide more grip? Why would you think that reducing surface area contact with the ground with reduce grip? Tread is only to have grip in wet conditions..
@@article3enthusiast even when tires (or other parts) are expensive, is that even an argument considering the VERY high prices Lego is asking for their products? I mean, this kind of cutting corners is something I'd expect from some cheap Chinese knock-off brand that would sell a set like this for €50 instead of €180. I don't mind Lego asking premium prices for their products, as long as they also deliver premium quality. With this set they utterly failed.
I was deciding whether or not to buy this set, and when the sticker sheet was changed, I decided to wait. I will wait for someone to create an accurate aftermarket set of stickers to correctly replicate the sponsorship (Google Chrome logo in the centre of the wheel with Pirelli Cinturato along the edge) for the 2022 season. Great video! love the content, keep it coming!
Same here!!! I also have the car with the original set + the "new" set, but I want the 2022 version with Google Chrome and Android, any idea where we can get it, even from a 3rd party? Thanks.
Great video RacingBrick I liked the opening part and maybe the people who bought the set if I keep it tight to sell it at crazy prices like the lego 42113
I think Lego should offer all buyers a new and updated sticker kit with a small instruction sheet even if it was at a small price so it's an accurate build.
It’s just a display model. I’m not going to stress over it since the car isn’t accurate anyway being a cross between 21 and 22. Nice to see the 42082 crane behind you, I’m finally working on mine.
At this point they should just make custom feature where they give you a box on the side with sticker sheets and pieces to swap onwthat you want your Mclaren to have in the moment. After all we are talking about LEGO
Just maybe if they make a series of these cars each one would have a different type of tire and wheel, but seeing the wheels on the Mclaren, they would be too lazy if it ever happened
I just finished my set, damn maybe I should have waited and kept this sealed in case it become rare haa! Wait has Lego photoshopped the blue to make it brighter in photos to try match the 2022 livery blue? That's scummy.
My guess is that Pirelli didn't like the use of the inaccurate P Zero branding but also weren't willing to allow the use of the Cinturato branding either for whatever reason. I believe the sponsors that were removed in the re-design are sponsors that McLaren themselves chose to end the relationship with for various reasons.
@@RacingBrick It might be that they didn't think the overall look (with the specific elements being used for the tyre, wheel, wheel cover etc as well as how far from the outside edge of the tyres their branding was) looked enough like the actual Formula 1 2022 season Pirelli Cinturato wet weather tyres for them to be happy.
I mean they could have done a Red Bull 2022 car and used last years livery and no one would have batted an eye or at least there would have been less wrong with that given they don't really update their livery, I don't know the exact sponsors but at least bitci was likely removed due to clashes with Lego's rules
So it's gone from a weird mix of '21 and '22 cars with incorrect stickers to a weird mix of '21 and '22 cars with incorrect stickers. Seems like a wasted effort to me. When you said the instructions were finally online I was hoping they'd be there for 42139 as well but no, have to wait a bit longer...
The new version is without the sponsors Bitci and A Better Tomorrow which are crypto and tobacco/vape sponsors respectively. Lego probably was not aware of this originally!
I don't think they wouldn't check the sponsors in advance if they would like to avoid certain type of companies. There's one thing in common regarding the ones removed - they are no longer sponsors this year
I don't think lego could have messed this set up anymore. As an F1 fan I just couldn't have this in my collection as it doesn't represent a real race car 🤦♂️
I think some of the Mclaren fans would ask for a lego technic of MCL35M in 2021 instead of MCL36 in 2022....at least MCL35M can play with different liveries (Monaco GP Gulf livery and Abu Dhabi GP special livery), rather than focus on sponsors and tyres......
I don't think the new version is sold anywhere, but based on the listing on lego.com the box art will be updated as well with the news stickers so it will be easy to identify.
@@RacingBrick thank you ; so new box will probably be easy to recognize by the loss of Pirelli brand on the tires , as visible on Lego shop set photos.
If it was printed parts I could see a sky rocket in price. But since it is something that can be faked easily. I don't see the price jumping as much. Plus all of them are inaccurate soooo.
@@RacingBrick okay that makes sense idk if I commented already but currently there are 2 versions on Amazon though I don’t know if they have different stickers
as a fan of F1 bought today although it is not at all similar to the real one. At the moment only the first version is on sale and this makes it the most interesting model. Discovered this channel just to look for this info since there are no Lego channels in Italy. Thanks of the contribution
Finally !!! Lego has fixed the biggest mistake on this car !!! I mean before I didn't know what was this amount of orange pieces. Now I know what is it !
Is there any info on if they're doing a full redesign? They must've known from Mclaren that the initial car was only a concept and not the actual model they'd go with - this happens everytime there's a drastic model change in Formula 1. I'd prefer to have the accurate front wing, overall car as well as stickers and hubs. It should have the Android sticker, Google coloured covers, etc and it'd be perfect. I'm assuming they might be doing just that since it's been out of stock for so long now?
The "new" design is published on lego.com, that's what we will get. No Android updates, no change in bricks. It's literally impossible to keep up with the sponsor changes and it makes no sense. Honestly this update makes no sense either.
So will everyone else who bought the set also be able to get the new sticker sheet? I don't plan on using it except for the wheel covers maybe, but it would still be nice to have the new sheet.
...just hoping we get lego slick tyres someday soon too 🙏🏼...other than that, I guess some moc'ers would make a rad cyber punk'ish vehicle as a b model, that would make good investment in the end...also bro, though I know it's double the work, I also hope that we'll get two Balazs back again for future videos as well 👍🏼☺️... ...and after the DeLorean cameo, just thinking if you'll make a cameo at the Hungaroring next 🤔🤞🏼☺️
I really enjoy your reviews!! Few team sponsors remain for the full season, some deals are for just a number of races, specially for local companies in the GP country for the weekend. The wheels and cover size could indeed be a mess up from lego xD

So I called again and they said sin CC e they don't have the new numbers I have to find out when they are shipping with new kits and what the numbers are and they will send them
Hello. Thanks for the video, I really like your approach to detail, the videos make sense and value. A pleasant pastime combined with relaxation and brain load. I wrote under the post about the universality of the wheels, referred to the official images of McLaren 3:16, because the new sticker does not indicate what kind of weather rubber is needed, although in the photo 3:16 there is a print from the new Lego sticker and the old Lego sticker. About "universality" it meant that now there is no designation of weather conditions, and the rubber tread does not depend on this, and also the new sticker more respects the color scheme of the Lego set. It seems to me that the confusion was due to licenses, since this kit was developed at a time when there was no final version of the real prototype. I think you should not scold Lego for such inaccuracies, it still looks beautiful on the shelf, but I would rather scold Lego for having few functions in the set, the Lego Technic series is designed for this. Thank you very much for the video, for clarifying inaccuracies, in my opinion you have the best Lego channel for adult fans. I apologize for the inaccuracies in my speech, I use Google translate as I do not speak English, and your review is very important to me, because it was a turning point in my life when I wanted to learn English, which gives great opportunities in the modern world .
I am guessing this was probably negotiated in the contract, Mclaren probably said that sponsors subject to change, and Lego responded back with saying they can change only the stickers and not piece count or exterior photos which probably led this to being a change issued solely on Mclaren's side and not Lego's as it was probably penned in the contract. I honestly don't think there will be anything major coming out of this since you can probably get a sticker set for
@@RacingBrick Because there are multiple contracts, not just one. Mclaren also has to sign contract deals with their sponsors that determines how they use promotional material and some of those contracts probably has clauses the requires them to have the sponsors or not. In the cases of lasped contracts, they can't use those sponsors whereas Google probably has it stated that they have to be put on all promotional material. It would be nice to be in a world that allows us to say for certainty exactly what happened but sadly we can't since those contracts are not available to the public for viewing.

I'm sure LEGO negotiated all rights for them before releasing the set, otherwise they simply wouldn't be there. Pirelli's name is still on the car, but they decided to "fix" the incorrect P ZERO label by adding a different design that was not present in 2021, and nor will be present in 2022.
Hello my friend, it is such a great pleasure to watch your videos ! The reason for the sticker change might be related to save money again.... Less stickers but the same price for this set...🤣
They made a wrong design more wrong... I remember one Formula 1 guy said: "we are looking like a bunch of ******!" They could build this set without any license, nobody would care about the many mistakes. But then the price would be a half of this desaster...
This car is a huge disappointed to me, I'm a big F1 fan and a big Lego fan. This set could have been my holy grail. But they screwed it up, 2022 car with 2021 design, doesn't look at all like the Mclaren and the gaps are also horrible. Such a huge shame.
I really don't see the point in doing a licensed set if you are going to screw it up so badly. It seems to be more about making money than being accurate... At least it doesn't suffer from porpoising.
@@RacingBrick I managed to watch to this moment but decided to leave comment anyway, still True and strange that their (lego and mclaren) communication seems so bad. Changing mistake for another mistake is strange.
I think this is a mess, Lego should've waited and released it as a 2022 with 2022 livery. I do not think it will be like other Lergo sets that have been pulled before release, and skyrocket up in value but i think it will command a premium over the newer version
Hi there! I need an audio and braille building instruction for this lego set. I've asked the lego customer service but they seemed unable to help me with the request at the moment. does anyone knows or have any idea how can I build this set by myself as a blind person? please help me if you can find the solution to it. just reply to my coment would do and we shall keep going from there.
As far as I know LEGO only has such instructions for a handful of sets, and from Technic only the CLAAS Xerion was included. I suggest to reach out to Matthew Shiffrin who's running legofortheblind.com/ and ask him if the pilot program will continue and if this set will be included.
So I bought 2 of the original version, I've built one so far. Is it worth keeping the other in the box? I've put it in the cupboard for safe keeping. I wish we could get an updated version that's current.
@@RacingBrick Hey, sorry! i didn't mean you having first world problems, but rather lego having first world problems with changing stickers, box art and stuff when the sets are already in the stores. Otherwise I get you and agree with you completely on the matter. Keep up the good work. I like your channel.
100% the Original 1/3/22 release with the Pirelli wheel stickers will increase and command more money...already in Australia you cannot buy the Original version less than $350!! Minimum! The RRP was $279 here. So already its gone up and in Australia you cant even buy one from Lego till May 2022. Just a joke...thankfully i already bought the OG version within the first few days of release and another privately this week to put away
I never use the stickers, so it really doesn't matter either way to me, but I keep all of them just in case I change my mind or decide to sell the set someday. I will contact Lego about getting a new sticker sheet
I was thinking of buying this set, now I may pass on it until I see some third party sticker sheet for the wheels. I dont like the look of the new sticker versus the old sticker for the wheels. Shame all the first edition sets are sold around my area.
LEGO may have recalled all the first edition sets (probably with the idea to take the sets and replace the instructions, sticker sheets and if necessary box with the new design and then re-issue them)
About the wheel covers being much smaller, this is a so-called spec component, so all teams have to use the exact same part (supplied by BBS, just like the rims, also spec). This was known long before the first cars were presented. This whole set was a mess from the start, and these changes don't make it any better. Which is a shame because for most part it does look pretty nice, it's just so stupidly inaccurate. This could have been a good set (yes overpriced and yes with a lack of functions) if they made either one of the two choices you mentioned.

Hello my friend, it is such a great pleasure to watch your videos ! The reason for the sticker change might be related to save money again.... Less stickers but the same price for this set...🤣
Részletes és figyelmes elemzés Balázs, gratula!
They made a wrong design more wrong...
I remember one Formula 1 guy said: "we are looking like a bunch of ******!"
They could build this set without any license, nobody would care about the many mistakes. But then the price would be a half of this desaster...
If they would have printed the tires...then yes...sticker sheet...I don't think so
I wish lego release 2023 more Technic advanced Race Car model with proper details..... 😅
wow, I didn't know you had a twin brother!
Does anyone know if the new sticker sheet is available
As I mentioned in the video, you need to call customer service and they will send it to you
I just called will it be the new one or old one?
@@tylerlindgren7803 you called them to get the new sticker sheet, maybe asking them if you will get that one for sure would have helped?
@@RacingBrick thanks for your help
and after Bahrain GP, there is Google Chrome logo on wheel cover :D
Those google wheels look sweet. Wished they went with those instead.
This car is a huge disappointed to me, I'm a big F1 fan and a big Lego fan. This set could have been my holy grail. But they screwed it up, 2022 car with 2021 design, doesn't look at all like the Mclaren and the gaps are also horrible. Such a huge shame.
Will they change it again to Google chrome then? 😂
I really don't see the point in doing a licensed set if you are going to screw it up so badly. It seems to be more about making money than being accurate... At least it doesn't suffer from porpoising.
3:16 its funny because now mclaren has Chrome (like Web Browser) wheel Cover so its even less accurate
It's funny because you can see it at 3:57 ;)
@@RacingBrick I managed to watch to this moment but decided to leave comment anyway, still True and strange that their (lego and mclaren) communication seems so bad. Changing mistake for another mistake is strange.
@@cyjan3k823 I'm sure there was a reason for that but we probably won't know... the end result is strange indeed
Less stickers to worry about at least 😅
In regard to the actual build, I don't think stickers make much of a difference one way or the other.
Why are there 2 Balazs's ??????
You can't have enough :)
Maybe that is why it is unavailable
I think this is a mess, Lego should've waited and released it as a 2022 with 2022 livery. I do not think it will be like other Lergo sets that have been pulled before release, and skyrocket up in value but i think it will command a premium over the newer version
@@apathynoises6456 haha you aren't wrong
Wow what a mess when only the best will do......
Oy yoy yoy but great video as always
I dont care so much about the stickers but why the hell they made wheels /tires of the same size !!???
These labels will come out in the wash, Wet weather tires joke, get it?
The whole thing is a complete mess. It’s a ‘22 car with the ‘21 livery. The wheel covers are the least of it’s problem.
I think of this change that... I don't care. I don't have money for such good sets haha
It’s because they didn’t get the license for the name
Which name? Do you really think LEGO would release a set without having all sponsors cleared on it?
oh, the horrors of the first world problems.
Well, not sure if you recognized but this is a LEGO channel :) If you want to see real problems, better switch to CNN
@@RacingBrick Hey, sorry! i didn't mean you having first world problems, but rather lego having first world problems with changing stickers, box art and stuff when the sets are already in the stores. Otherwise I get you and agree with you completely on the matter. Keep up the good work. I like your channel.
I have the old version
100% the Original 1/3/22 release with the Pirelli wheel stickers will increase and command more money...already in Australia you cannot buy the Original version less than $350!! Minimum! The RRP was $279 here. So already its gone up and in Australia you cant even buy one from Lego till May 2022. Just a joke...thankfully i already bought the OG version within the first few days of release and another privately this week to put away
That price increase is unrelated to this, it just sold out extremely quickly/scalpers got involved.
McLaren changed the livery😂
Cool!
LEGO may have recalled all the first edition sets (probably with the idea to take the sets and replace the instructions, sticker sheets and if necessary box with the new design and then re-issue them)
My opinion is that I don't really care either way.
The only realistic thing is the shape of the car
About the wheel covers being much smaller, this is a so-called spec component, so all teams have to use the exact same part (supplied by BBS, just like the rims, also spec). This was known long before the first cars were presented.
This whole set was a mess from the start, and these changes don't make it any better. Which is a shame because for most part it does look pretty nice, it's just so stupidly inaccurate. This could have been a good set (yes overpriced and yes with a lack of functions) if they made either one of the two choices you mentioned.
