It's easily my favorite theme across all of Lego since they took it to 8 wide. Since you mentioned how fun they are to build, I'm a massive fan of the Swedish flag easter egg in the Koenigsegg. I'm already looking forward to the 2023 release.
I totally agree. Hopefully lego will bring out a porsche 911 in 8wide. Then a comparison with the 6wide would be nice. We need a new Porsche. 911 is so iconic.
Agree with all points! Would add: I wish LEGO would introduce a greater variety of windscreen pieces, plus I wish LEGO would start a whole new line of non-speedracer regular cars that we all use(d) and see/saw on the road over the past decades. I really like that about the Nissan and the Audi: they look like vehicles you can recognise from real life.

I definitely agree. I would like to see more of the humble 90s-2000s JDM/Euro cars because there is a lot of modern super car happening, but I am very happy so far.
Five arguably really good reasons why Speed Champions has also become my most anticipated/favorite theme of each year. 8 wide for me is also the best reason as the theme no longer looks like they belong in a city layout but an actual display shelf. I also like how 8 wide is expanding into other themes such as the pretty excellent Batmobile, and Tumbler from fall last year. Can't wait to see the rumored F&F Charger, and 007 BD5 later this year.
Been saying this for the longest time. No system set comes with such variety in building techniques, design, and small details for its size like the Speed Champions sets. It makes them worth buying despite being more expensive than a lot of other system sets. In a time where most Lego themes either have a boring restrictive license, or are becoming less imaginative and more formulaic, Speed Champions sets are on a whole other level. We never see that same effort used to replicate angels, intakes and general shapes like we do in Star Wars or Ninjago sets, despite those themes being considerably popular. Technic (with system pieces) and Creator come close at times, but aren't consistently as detailed relative to their size. For display purposes they are also ideal. Maybe one day we will get Speed Champions level detail in other modern sets, but something tells me that the reason Lego can afford to make these sets so detailed is because of their small size and licensing.
It's Legos best theme for all the reason you mentioned. Speed Champions is what drew me back into Lego. I love every single 8 stub car and the Dragster is one of my favorites. I just ordered the whole 2022 set just waiting for it to arrive
I wish we had Speed Champions X Technic (transporter-sized) series from Lego. Getting more panels, suspension components to match this size would be awesome as well as having models in the same scale instead of each one requiring different space.
The Speed Champions cars dont have suspensions so perhaps we dont need one for the car transporter. Maybe just do something like what was done with the Ford pickup truck 😉
@@GubstersGarage One set that I am aware of actually did give Speed Champion's cars suspension, and Lego used to have a system piece with inbuilt springs that I don't see any issue with replicating for today.
I think it would be ideal if Lego made a vehicles with a sturdy but light and hollow Technic structure and foundation, with minimal functions, and a mostly system shell for the external details. To me, that is the only feasible way I can see Lego actually making large scale Technic display vehicles better. Then, they can allocate all the Technic functionality and playability to just purely Technic (and maybe more affordable Mindstorms?) sets. One sub-theme for form, one for function.
I've always collected some of the Speed Champions sets. Back when they were 6-wide I'd only get ones that I really really liked, like the Ford Fiesta rally car. But since they went to 8-wide I've gotten every kit, the building experience is nearly unparalleled and the added width really makes them feel more substantial.
As a former LEGO Star Wars, I have fall headfirst and headstrong into LEGO Speed Champions! I cannot wait to purchase more in the years to come as they perfect their building techniques even further.
Would have to agree with the 5 points you mentionned. There's great value throughout these sets, either be the quality of parts used, design, building experience and to top it off, they make great display pieces. All we need now is a greater variety of tire sizes and windscreen to make these models even better.
I use to be a diehard LEGO Architecture Series fan but those have slowed down over the years. I got my first Speed Champions set last year and I immediately fell in love. Mainly because of the fact that you truly get your bang for your Buck. I’m totally okay with the amount of stickers as long as it keeps the price down, which it is and I’m sure is the reason they aren’t printed elements.
Bought for the looks, stayed for the building experience. Honestly. There is no way people will ever understand the joy of building a Speed Champion just by looking at the collection of cars. They're worth every penny (and they don't cost much of a penny to begin with) just for the building experience alone, and having a really nice little model at the end is just extra. My most memorable Speed Champion building experience thus far remains that upside down windshield in the Senna, which still makes me go WTF whenever I look at it.
I dont care about cars but love the sets. Effordable, fun to build (much interior detail you don't see at the end), look great especially the 3:38 one, nice present for kids too. Downsides: I hate that the Lambo is white and never looks clean, especially since you put stickers on it and get your fingerprints everywhere, and it gets repetative to build several of them.
I started building all of the Speed Champions sets because I thought the cars looked cool. I continue to get all of the new sets just to experience all of the innovative build techniques (it certainly helps that the cars look even cooler now).

I kinda wish Lego would rerelease some cars from the 6 stud era into the 8 stud, imagine the ford gt or the F40 in 8 studs configuration, i wonder why Lego don't want to do speed champs with 8 studs wide in the first place
This series is the reason I started buying Legos. I wanted to get a model of a Formula 1 car but most small models are quite expensive, then the Mercedes Lego set came out with the W12. I bought that one, and before I knew it I ended up building 12 in total so far (2 of them six studs), and will get 5 more in the next few months. I feel like having so much variety can help the series as some people might buy one of his favorite cars, and end up buying more because of how creative the builds are.
Love this video. Perfectly articulates my appreciation for this line. I look forward to their licensed IP vehicles getting the same treatment. Hoping the Bond/Fast Furious rumours are true.
Absolutely agree about the building experience and building techniques! I’m no gearhead-heck, I’m kinda anti-car, and if I could live my life without a car, I would-and I’m not into racing (car or otherwise), but I nonetheless have about half the Speed Champions sets, just for the build experience. speed champions are what bring me back to lego after "some" years. so far have countach and evija, and damn, they were fun to build and are looking awesome.
These 8 wide cars resold me on Lego, the amount of detail in each car is crazy, right now I have the jesko and the diablo, and tbh, they’re some of the best sets and use some GREAT building techniques to create the cars curvature, lego definitely has a place in this gear heads heart and I’m excited for what’s next
I agree with what was said in the video. I should add that these sets have very cool parts inside, and have a huge potential for alternative models. (I built a sportcar (a bit like a mustang) from supra and a hot rod from elva)
Speed Champions is also my favorite theme of all! I have been collecting them and only missing the Ferrari Scuderia set coz it’s too expensive now. Someday I’ll unbox them all once I have the proper space for a Speed Champions race track diorama.
I’m with you in the fact that I love the whole collection, the last 3 years especially, all look fantastic when displayed and I completely agree they just need to sort the wheel sizing out to match what they are replicating, just a shame we have to wait another year for the next lot! I’ve bought a second set of the Mercedes just so I can build one more and have Hamiltons car as well as bottas’. Great videos by the way keep them coming.
Yeah i thought I was done with Legos but these things are so highly detailed and innovative in how the parts go together that it's got me diving into my old boxes of Lego to see what I have. My goal is to one day build from scratch, hunting down each piece one at a time, for one or two of these cars using just the instructions. Once more into the bricks, dear friends! Once More!
I love the reasonable price and quality for what you get. Building the March 1st release Countash and Ferrari were amazing. So much fun building these little cars and I'm really happy with how realistic they are.
My issue with variety is Nissan GTR and Toyota Supra are the only Japanese cars in speed champions. While people like super cars, they are missing out on the JDM enthusiast market. Licensing is the hard obstacle here, just go ask any racing game developer. But with the Civic Type R, GR86, GR Yaris, LEGO has plenty of modern options, let alone the 90s classics.
I agree with you on this, LEGO should make more JDM cars for Speed Champions, and for their first time with both Nissan and Toyota, the cars they pick aren’t good picks, the R35 GTR looks fine, I think LEGO should of make it look like a regular road legal car and not a race car, but for the Supra, they should of gone with the Mk 4 than the Mk 5, a lot of people love the Mk 4 because of its popularity with the people, but also ties in with Paul Walker and Fast and Furious, if I think it was, but for the ones you mention, I will be fine, the GR86 looks sick, it actually looks like it’s predecessor but modern, and I like that more that the GR Supra
@@justincole1510 the cars are great picks, they are icons of brands. A much wider audience enjoys the classics like countaches or supercars like the valkyrie, less people are jdm fans. they try to appeal to more people. and yes more jdm would be cool but saying the current picks are bad is just bs
Sorry, my bad. These two JDM cars are great picks, but I just don’t like they were design or in my livery that have on. I’m fine with any cars that I like. But if the LEGO model doesn’t look like the actual car irl. Then idk why the design sr did that. The Supra wasn’t my only least favorite set from 2021. The Chevy 2-pack with the Corvettes. The designer didn’t get the looks of both the C3 and C8.R Corvettes. I’ll like them to be much better looking, but where’s the resolve from it.
I love the speed champions line, it is what got me back into collecting lego. I would love to see more classic muscle cars though, and with two movie based cars coming our this year, I hope that is a sign of more to come. So many great movie cars out there that Lego Speed Champions could do.
@@ThuNder12805 I'm impressed either you remembered and found this comment after a year or the video popped up in your recommend the day after that new video dropped
As a fan of the Speed Champions Lego series, i agree with what you said here, but i also wish they’d do more than what they have, like maybe some more trucks or even do some off road vehicles like jeeps and Baja trucks and not just run of the mill sports/hyper cars
I've just bought and built the Ferrari speed champion today and it was a fun build and looks great. I especially liked the details you touched upon regarding the rear wheel arch etc.
Yesterday i buy the lambo countach and i was amazed by all the ideas and techniques that they put to replicate the iconic shape of this car... it was amazing!
I began collecting Hot Wheels and other 1/64 diecast cars last year. Due to low stock, I looked to Legos as I didn't have many sets, but I cherished the few I did. I got into this theme about 2 months ago and I LOVE them. Have got a ton of the 2021 and 2022 sets and has been enjoyable all around. I wish that there were more sets, but I understand that designing these can take longer than 1/64 models. Big recommend and great video.
And also speed champion sets forces the system to introduce new sculpting parts (the basic ones that we have already imagined to be present but somehow missing) as in the curved front lights and the inverted slope of the Bond Aston Martin set, where they appear for the first time ever.
I agree with you. The speed champions design and look are the best. Creator expert has a huge chance to become the best as they combine the best of bricks, like speed champions, and technic. If you can happily marry the looks of Creator Expert with Technic engine/gears and other mechanical features I think will be the perfect car models. Also maybe it can help reduce the price of the sets as well as reducing the size. Those technic cars are just way too big and way too expensive. Enjoyed this video topic! Great job sir!
My collections coming along as I tend to get the Solo packs first but need to make sure I get some Double packs too. I also need to make a MOC garage/Showroom of sorts to really showcase my collection the change to 8 Stud wide was a needed and indisputable decision it greatly benefits the level of detail and accuracy achieved the angles and shapes of the cars are far greater than there 6 stud counterparts I hope for an anniversary we get remakes of the original waves. The Building experience and overall techniques used in the theme keep getting better and better so clever and satisfying to put together and for the price so much value for money pretty much unmatched with a licensed theme. Stickers and prints will always be a bane to the experience/theme as a whole if made into prints would boost prices greatly and remove the option to put them on or not and if you take your time and apply them with care then I assure you they look spectacular and elevate the level of accuracy. I'm longing for a Sian, Ford GT 1976 Mustang, BMW i8, DS Automobile and maybe a Fast and Furious sub line/crossover just a thought and a F1, Rally car/Off-Road even Dragsters theme, so much potential and one of my favorite LEGO themes.
I just started collecting and displaying these sets. They are great "beginner" Lego collector sets. I have found my self not applying all the stickers on them, usually foregoing the decal stickers, not necessarily the vehicle functionality ones (lights, logos, name, etc.) Great sets!
Taking the Speed Champions from 6 wide to 8 wide has improved both the build experience and the finished product. I have a small collection of 6 wide, and the rest are 8 wide, and can tell the difference
As long can I remember the biggest gearhead I've really known so well in person is me! this is easily my all time favourite LEGO theme because I finally feel I can make lego cars properly myself without messing up almost all the time (trial and error probably) and watching tutorials and became the tutorial guy myself (I still watch tutorial vids because they also have more better techiques than before) and it really just unleashed full potential for right now what lego cars would look like if we made few more bracket variants after another and some techniques that were never thinked of before (I still keep older LEGO cars for nostalgic purposes) the 8 stud wideness is really the sweet spot for Speed Champions for sure and another thing I noticed is that the newer sets feel really more different compared to the older ones because the older ones were bit off more telling about racing and motorsport and newer is more focused in the car itself.
Never got into Legos until I went to Barnes and nobles and got my first Lego purchase, the Lamborghini Countach, now I want all the Speed Champions lol but I’ll slowly build my collection up
i really love how desighner broke his brain to connect piecies in speed champions 1s 2022 way. techniques in vantage, amg one and lamborghini - incredible. all previous cars look terrible for me now, lol. hope in summer wi will get more crazy techniques...
Easily my favorite Lego series. I remember when the new drive to survive season came out I pulled an all nighter building the bronco/gt set, supra, and the jesko lol
I love this theme, I am wondering what LEGO will do for Speed Champions in 2024, that will be its tenth year anniversary, and I hope LEGO will do something big for the theme
@@Inflator82 they only made them 8 studs wide back in 2020 and I think this current scale is fine. So much better than the 6 stud wide. Hopefully they can remake the ferrari truck.
I prefer the newer and bigger SC´s too, but the older ones had theyr charme too! The way they made the exhaust pipe of the classic Porsche 911 was very well done for example. Simple and effective.
Another good video. I agree on every single point and argument except one: For me nothing beats the building techniques used in almost each Creator Expert vehicle - at least nothing in the Lego world. I recently built the SC Countach e.g. and while the techniques to get the rear shape right are great the sturdiness is not. Each of these four angled pieces is not secured as you would expect from an official model. The tricky part is always to secure such angled submodels at two points like the Mustang and Porsche windscreen e.g. which is not possible at SC scale. And while some CE models' proportions are more or less off (like 10262 and 10295) they are all a joy to build. You can even forgive 10262 its ugly look if you appreciate all those clever functions included. I wish there were more system brick scale models with a technic core.
I have to Commend Lego for literally going full MOC Style Building for all the specific Details on the cars, with it being 8 studs wide I really hope the Wheels get a bit wider and bigger for some models and better hub caps for specialized looks
to be honest, I was suprised with the speed champions sets, its like proving on how much lego can be used to do anything, and now I really want to have the quattro, but right now I have a smol 6 by 4 mini lego car that I made myself TvT
Started collecting the SC cars once Lego went with the 8-wide cars in 202. I have all the 2020's, all the 2021's and just three missing from the 2022's. Running out of space in my office to display them all. Guess I'll be putting up another shelf. Agrees with all your points 100%. Oh, and I've done conversions on some pre-2020 cars, so my collection now sits at 30.
The difference between the lego valkyrie amr and the one in grid is because the game uses an older prototype show design, while the lego car represents tze actual, manufactured AMR. Biggest diefferences are the headlights and the read spoiler section, and the wheels maybe
I don't know if you knew, but the SC valkyrie is supposed to be the newer concept but with the livery of the older one. If you go onto rebrickable, Nard Verbong made a valkyrie that is based off the older concept
Great video I just bought the lamborgini countach and it was a fun built love the construction techniques they use. I can’t wait to get the asthon martin db5
While I don't like stickers at all (old school LEGO fan here), I do like the cars. I saw a couple sets here in Brazil and they were not that expensive and thanks for showing some tricks they used to build them and some of the unique pieces
Stickers are awful but they are a necessary evil to have this wide variety of cars for the price. I haven't bought the 2023 models yet, but I hope the higher price maybe gets them to print a few more. Based on the R34 GTR though that's not happening.
I was so hoping they’d bring out an outrun set in this size as I 100% agree that this is the best size range so I found a moc pdf and modded further to turn testarossa to spider. Damn I can’t post picture :(
3 new sets for 2022 are 76911 Aston Martin DB5 76912 1970 Dodge Charger 76913 TBC people say that a lot of cars from james bond and fast and furious coming to speed champions
Ever since the 8 stud wide I bought every single one. They are the perfect size for a big collection. I hope they remake some of the older models and some pick-up trucks. I can’t get my hands on the 2022 Mercedes set in Belgium. My favorite is the Jesko 😍
I love them for my daughter to set off all the disney princess playbooks. And even though they are intended for for a higher age, they manual is way better than the playbooks, and thus easier to build.
When I eventually build a LEGO City of my own (which will likely be at least a few years in the future), I want to use the new Road Plates and make 8 stud wide cars the standard. Obviously that will be a very expensive endeavor in general. And not all the vehicles would be Speed Champions (because some Speen Champion cars aren't normally seen on City streets), but I may build some MOC cars based on Speed Champions. I just hope that LEGO adds more commonly seen cars to the line-up.
After running out of new Lego Star Wars kits that interest me this year and last, (other than UCS) I started on Speed Champions and now I'm addicted. They are really fun to build. The only part I don't love is all the stickers.
I know this is an older video, but just ran across it. I absolutely agree, and loved the comparison with the Technic kits. I got the McLaren Senna Technic kit recently, and am kind of glad I didn't pay for it myself. It's good, but not as good as it should be for the price. Even the six stud wide Senna ultimately felt like a more fulfilling building experience. I would definitely not object to revisiting some of the six stud cars for the eight stud treatment (the P1 and the Senna in particular, but also the 911 and the LaFerrari would be amazing). The cream of the crop is still the Countach for me, but I'm biased, because it's one of my favorite cars of all time. Keep up the good work, Lego.

3:28 i think there is like 2 version of the valkyrie amr pro, and the wing is pretty accurate to the other version
Bought the Countach some time ago, and its such a cool piece. Every detail is there!
The "wow, a whole 2x4 brick in a speed champions set" should've been in the compilation
It hapenned again and this time it's 2 2x4 bricks!
@@ThuNder12805 I'm impressed either you remembered and found this comment after a year or the video popped up in your recommend the day after that new video dropped
@@Phoenix-Saika I remembered this comment vividly as soon as I saw the new video
I own the one by his left elbow at the beginning
Yesterday i buy the lambo countach and i was amazed by all the ideas and techniques that they put to replicate the iconic shape of this car... it was amazing!
These building features... They are blowing my mind 🤯
I love the Speed Champions line. They have come a long way with the newer sets. I can't wait to see next years line up.
The building techniques are some of the craziest ones I’ve seen in a long time
Ford Fiesta M-Sport WRC 75885 was the best! Loved it, and still loving it! So many stickers but was fun to build!
I would love a speed champions line for airplanes. With super detailed planes
I bought some Lego Speed Champions recently, that’s clearly the best thing for my car’s passion ❤️ I totally agree what you said !
Balász, your narration is absolutely flawless, perfectly up my alley! Greetings from your northern Lego fan
Nice video! btw is this game selling on ps4 discs too?
I really like these and the Star Wars helmet sets they've done.
Easily in my top three themes to collect. I already can’t wait for what they have in store for next year.
My wish is for a Citroen Gt 🙏🏽
I don't even like cars that much, but speedchampions is still awesome. Building experience is so great for the price.
FYI, the computer model of the Valkyrie you used is the preproduction version, the production version is almost exactly like the lego set
As long can I remember the biggest gearhead I've really known so well in person is me!
this is easily my all time favourite LEGO theme because I finally feel I can make lego cars properly myself without messing up almost all the time (trial and error probably) and watching tutorials and became the tutorial guy myself (I still watch tutorial vids because they also have more better techiques than before)
and
it really just unleashed full potential for right now what lego cars would look like if we made few more bracket variants after another and some techniques that were never thinked of before (I still keep older LEGO cars for nostalgic purposes)
the 8 stud wideness is really the sweet spot for Speed Champions for sure and another thing I noticed is that the newer sets feel really more different compared to the older ones because the older ones were bit off more telling about racing and motorsport and newer is more focused in the car itself.
Never got into Legos until I went to Barnes and nobles and got my first Lego purchase, the Lamborghini Countach, now I want all the Speed Champions lol but I’ll slowly build my collection up
Recently came across your channel while looking for some Lego sets for the kids and your reviews are great.
Thank you for your great videos!
Very nice implementation of the video sponsor to showcase the real car models
i really love how desighner broke his brain to connect piecies in speed champions 1s 2022 way. techniques in vantage, amg one and lamborghini - incredible. all previous cars look terrible for me now, lol. hope in summer wi will get more crazy techniques...
Yeah haha, I’m really holding back the urge to binge-buy the current releases, because I want to see what comes after
Easily my favorite Lego series.
They will make them 10 studs wide.
@@Inflator82 maybe, but I don’t know if they would or not, we will have to wait and see
@@Inflator82 they only made them 8 studs wide back in 2020 and I think this current scale is fine. So much better than the 6 stud wide. Hopefully they can remake the ferrari truck.
Oh, the Countach is awesome!
This was an awesome video man
Can't wait for the Speed Champions line to feature VW and Volvo, I will definitely snag those sets up if they decide to make some!
Absolutely love all these sets!!!
My favourite is the Audi S1 Rally car. I’m liking the new releases. Looking forward to getting more
I bought the new countach and I love it
The difference between the lego valkyrie amr and the one in grid is because the game uses an older prototype show design, while the lego car represents tze actual, manufactured AMR.
Damn I can’t post picture :(
*Slaps 2020 lego speed champions car*
'This bad boy can fit a whole lot of attraction'.
3 new sets for 2022 are 76911 Aston Martin DB5
76912 1970 Dodge Charger
76913 TBC people say that a lot of cars from james bond and fast and furious coming to speed champions
Ever since the 8 stud wide I bought every single one. They are the perfect size for a big collection. I hope they remake some of the older models and some pick-up trucks. I can’t get my hands on the 2022 Mercedes set in Belgium.
My favorite is the Jesko 😍
if you are still looking i bought it yesterday in dreamland for 39.99
I love them for my daughter to set off all the disney princess playbooks.
And even though they are intended for for a higher age, they manual is way better than the playbooks, and thus easier to build.
Thanks for this nice video. It got me off the fence, just ordered my countach and aston martins;)
I'm loving this series so far abd I'm doing everything i can to collect all of them, my next one is the Koenigsegg
Buying Speed champions sets is a statement of support.
Got my dad a 911 Porsche set . Cant wait to give it to him for Christmas
They need to reuse the old speed champion axels and make wider wheels, that way it can fit the wider wheels
*they have alternate builds too*
This is sponsoring done right.
I want Lego to make regular everyday cars & pick-up trucks, or maybe classics, like a Chevy Bel Aire, or Nova Station Wagon.
