Kinda does in some armature series, win get weight(25-50lbs) no matter what. Was super frustrating but made you continually improve because everyone else got “faster”
Let's hope the new regulations regarding spending in F1 do something in that regard. At least they are supposed to be doing that, doesn't change the fact, that the smaller teams will still have a hell of a time to scrounge together the money.
I'd just like to thank you guys, for actually driving these cars after mods. Unlike most RUclipsrs that go through all the details of the mods and you never get to see them getting driven. Looked like a great day at the track, makes me want to go back!
the BRZ might have done a little better with tuning for a specific lower octane and keeping the RPM's up. a ram scoop cold air intake? an electric "turbo"? seems to me another 15-20 hp would have been just enough... OR, just go old school and ditch a little of the "dumb weight"! spare tire, rear seat, carpet padding, plastic fuel cell instead of a tin tank. weight loss can help acceleration and braking both, it can also help or hurt weight transfer and traction in corners. it'd be very entertaining IF Moog spent near nothing to even things up. set the shift light 4-500 rpm higher for less time in "torque drop land"? a slightly larger throttle body and tuned length intake? some basic head porting and different cam? the intake manifold put onto a flow metering system to tell "how to" for porting+adjusting it to balance/maximize fuel+air to each cylinder... what intake manifold and carburetor you set up makes a big difference with the good old V8's. Moog has kinda set himself up for this by demonizing those evil dirty little turbochargers, old "Uncle Tony's Garage" not too long ago did an episode about back facing, and front facing, the intake and exhaust valves to improve flow. would a set of pistons to bump up the compression ratio a little help or hurt? what if it only wanted a thinner head gasket and shave .015 or .020 off the head? all the littlest of things DO add up to wring more power from a mill, making the pistons+rods all equal lighter weight, balancing the crankshaft better, lighter drive shaft(?), more efficient rear differential(?), balanced+lighter flywheel(?) might be simple as surface grinding some weight away then re-balancing it. getting long winded typing here but DANG... might find another 30-35 hp by playing some really basic low budget games, there's gotta be computer programs that'd help predict and tell you what to DO to an engine. said above "it'd be entertaining IF", having the valves modded and head shaved, porting intake+exhaust manifolds and head's ports for in+out matching, lightening+balancing, all that GOOD STUFF that can be done to a lot of what's already there.
I was disappointed they didn't do a cut scene when Moog first said he wasn't going to turbocharge the BRZ, the way BOM did their cut scene when Nik said he wasn't going to put the turbo back on the Celica motor for Binky.

This was awesome. Hard to believe they're so close with such a power difference, but on the other hand power really doesn't compensate for a lot of things. I"d love to see one challenge where you guys drive your own cars and then swap cars on the next session or something to remove driver difference from the equation. Would be really cool to see even if not that important. Both of these are fantastic cars in their own right.

The sti is designed to handle well too... compare it to an ls supercharged commodore, it’s destroying in the straight but it’s a fucking boat in turns...
This is so good! It’s so cool seeing the factory 2 door STi’s in action. We didn’t get them in the states and had to build them ourselves from our 2.5RS and L coupes.
Really enjoyed watching this series as a current BRZ and WRX owner. These cars feel so different in day to day driving, so it's good to see their strengths and weaknesses on track as well.
I've had a couple of those moments at 15:57 when I first swapped to a 6 speed with DCCD pro. at first it seemed intrusive, but after a few sessions I just realized the limit was much higher than it had been with the 5mt. another cool thing about the diff controler, I've got a Non ABS RA brake swap and it tends to have a bit of rear bias which is super sketchy in reducing radius turns from long straights. With the DCCD pro, I adjusted the diff auto setting to increase the lockup % by about 20% more under decel in cornering, basically an artificial dynamic brake bias/ABS and no more looping it in turn 2 at Laguna Seca.
Great series as always, really helping with the Victorian COVID blues we are in. Remember though the Sti was primarily built as a rally car not a circuit car whereas that BRZ was always about being a track day car, hell they even give you just enough room in the back to put track day wheels and tyres.
It really isn't all about it. First - it's easier to follow somebody, second - the difference in mindset when driving 15k and 60k car is huge, even if you are youtube famous

The old STi's do better with soft suspension and a little more body roll than most sports cars. It seems counterintuitive but that's the way to get the most grip out of them. It looked to me like Marty wasn't hucking it in hard enough to take full advantage of the body roll though. Trying to drive something like an older STi where you have to drive it rough and mash pedals to get the most out of it is kinda weird. Plus, I'm pretty sure Marty didn't want to mess up his new car. Driving an older STi like that on a track with wide sticky tires destroys wheel bearings, CV joints and suspension components pretty quick because they weren't designed for lateral loads like that.

It would be due to the lowering springs. Next step would be coilovers but Marty doesn’t want them yet
The old STi's do better with soft suspension and a little more body roll than most sports cars. It seems counterintuitive but that's the way to get the most grip out of them. It looked to me like Marty wasn't hucking it in hard enough to take full advantage of the body roll though. Trying to drive something like an older STi where you have to drive it rough and mash pedals to get the most out of it is kinda weird. Plus, I'm pretty sure Marty didn't want to mess up his new car. Driving an older STi like that on a track with wide sticky tires destroys wheel bearings, CV joints and suspension components pretty quick because they weren't designed for lateral loads like that.
