So of course we immediately went out to buy it. But, as the old saying goes: if it's too good to be true... BUY IT before someone else does!

As an American, I assumed a “kebab” was a stick with meat and vegetables on it. Looks like a Greek Gyro to me.

@@dbeasleyphx I think they idea is they grill the meat and veggies on the stick, then they put it in flatbread for eating, so we Americans only got the first half of the equation on kebabs.

Honestly, for that price, gut it and turn it into a full on track car with all the mods, aero, carbon fiber panel replacements etc. You should be able to at least get your money back on it (cost of mods included) if you turn it into a track monster, even if it is unregistered. Could make for an awesome series, would watch for sure.

Longer story is that you just bought "content". This thing could in fact be a whole season deal, with road trips and such to get it all handled. For a RUclips channel such as yours, this car is a blessing and the story will surely make for compelling watching. Thanks guys!

A mate of mine won 10k from Zoo magazine back in the day coz he said he'd use the money to make an Emu Polo farm. Spent it all on patying instead.... i guess the moral of the story is to never give an 18yr old 10k. or that us aussie sure love us some emus....
You'll be right guys, our drive was a 2-year-old 2011 interstate insurance write-off with 6,500kM on it, for 1/3 replacement cost & we still love it.
There was a bit of expense with registering it & stamp duty but nothing off-putting.
Mind you, that was 10 years ago & in South Australia, but I'm pumped for you guys. 👍

To be fair on the front bumper, even cars that haven't been smashed do that. The good news is that like everything else with them, there are a range of OEM replacement clips, to aftermarket metal clamps, to quick release tabs you can get to fix it.
these days it seems that barely bumping the nose can pop those seams out. so flimsy a lot of the time.
@@ghomerhust With good reason. They’re no longer structurally there to improve crash safety. So a bump will push them out of alignment and save your wings etc. The legit crash structure is beyond the bumper. I’m my old bmw if I bump the front it would most likely shunt everything else out of alignment.
Nice one, I paid £5,5k for my damaged GT86, costed me about £8,5k in total to bring it back on roads. Love these cars. Soo much fun for so little.. well done MCM 🤞🏻

Why though MCM has good prices and shipping is dirt cheap. To Ireland it was 7euro compared to Cleetus McFarland Charing 30 from the US and Australia is sooooooo much further away

Based on Martin's explanation of the dealer putting the car in his own name and then selling it to Martin that tells me he's trying to evade taxes or government supervision so that he can clear more money for himself. Shady stuff LOL
"Allegedly" A lot of mechanics here in the UK will ask if you're paying by cash or card.
Cash will be 20% cheaper because they won't put it in the books, and you won't have to pay the VAT on it (tax)
Yup, it's called floating the title here in the US. Double bonus for the dealer, when they sell it to themselves, they can put whatever price they want and write it off as a loss.

I assume also because it's a personal sale not a dealer sale, the dealer isn't on the hook for any statutory warranty. Here in SA all cars bought from a dealer come with 3 month warranty, but if you buy it from guy who works there and not the dealership I'd imagine there's no warranty.

You should do a series on how to repair a repairable written off car, as more often than not for some people that want a cool car have to go for a write off. As once repaired they can be really cheap and sometimes cost half than an non written off example

Import costs, taxes and cars last forever here because they don't rust so they hold their value longer. My car is 30 years old so it has no rust prevention galvanising done to it in the factory...has no rust on it at all. Actually it's the plastics and rubber that is starting to deteriorate from uv, heat and age as well as the clear coat.
But the much more modern Fiesta isn’t much more!

That’s dirt cheap for a BRZ. My question is: How is that black Holden Astra priced at 4990? In the UK, a mint, low mileage one would fetch maybe £1000! Either way, looking forward to the project.

In Australia, to register and insure (compolsary third party) that car would be $400 dollarydoos.

I've driven passed that dealership so many times and always thought they looked super dodgy. The food truck just down the road from it is pretty good though.
The 86 twins are all about being fun to drive, are they low on power even compared to a camry, yes, but its a riot to drive every time and I think they look fantastic (especially IRL the curves don't come across as well on camera). I cant imagine selling mine as there is nothing modern to compare to for price/fun ratio. So glad to have more BRZ stuff on MCM.

Hockey tape in Australia is very expensive. We don't use it like Canadians lol

I've been considering moving there long term. Just the drivers license rules/regs alone got a bit confusing. 😂 still doing research though, and things may change by the time I'm ready to move.
I basically just needs an engineer's certificate but there will be limitations on insurance.

I bought a 2015 brz 2 weeks ago and im loving it
hahaha this is almost exactly image how I picked up my 86, country VIC car that was in a front and rear - repaired properly but there was a lot of "18-and-think-this-is-cool" interior mods and eBay axle back fart cannon. Negotiated it to under 10k at a dodgy Dandenong dealers and it's a perfect build car, not so nice that I care about changing shit but nice enough that I can drive it.
FC Verts are amazing. Non USDM were turbo from factory, reinforced front end compared to hatch ones and a more rigid chassis compared to hatch

I think this was filmed before Moog sold the RS3. In one of the more recent earlier vids - possibly a unicorn circuit ep, they mentioned that there were a few project cars in the pipeline that they haven't revealed yet. This must be one of them... I know in the past they've revealed cars then said nothing about them for months due to other projects, which has resulted in 1000's of "where is the xyz" comments, so it makes sense they decided to sit on the vid till they could work on the car.
My soul felt the expression on Marty's face when he heard "95% complete" and he relived the Bin Civic experience.

The WOVR check doesn't check the quality of the repairs, it's just to check parts aren't rebirthed stollen parts. You just get a RWC before WOVR inspection, then you can register it once passed.
I have repaired a few repairable write-offs and there is a bit more to it than that, you need a tier 3 inspection to clear the WOVR, tier 3 requires a detailed repair diary outlining all repairs and repairs must be referenced to "manufacturers" repair procedures, detailed photos of repair progress & receipts for all parts (must be a business with an ABN), they do a very detailed inspection of the quality of the repairs, if Airbag has been deployed or the vehicle has hail or water damage they require a full SRS report from a authorised service workshop ($$$$), once that is all signed off then you need a RWC & can get it registered.
@@bcowland9186 My experience is with motorcycles and none of that has ever applied. I also did the repairs myself and just needed a statutory declaration stating any repairs i did and all receipts for parts purchased. Then like i said a RWC. I'm in QLD, i'm unsure of the process in other states.

Similar. A gyro is a greek dish, the kebab is middle eastern. A gyro also often has a thicker pita. I would say that the construction is similar, but the ingredients are very different.

Giros is the correct spelling but Yiros is the correct sounding...(phonetically)
Kebab is the Turkish wording and usually has a weird meat loaf thing that I personally dislike.
I always get a lamb yiros with raw onion, tomato, garlic sauce but no lettuce and instead add tabouleh.

Just one thing.... Here in South Africa we call those delicious things you ate a Wrap and if its in a pita bread.. a schwarma. A kebab here is a stick with meat and onions , sometimes green bell peppers added to it and barbequed over hot coals.

I had kind of the same situation with my Nissan Silvia S14. It wasn't crashed. It had been in my country for 10 years without beeing registered or the import tax payed. Thankfully the last owner had payed a ticket for cancelling the import taxes. I got it for 4.7k€ it was in perfect condition but it was so cheap because it was not certain it could be registered. A year later I got it registered and enjoy the car so much!!!!

For a Greek that is a rip-off, you'd pay half that in Greece for a top quality gyros. That said for Sydney that's not a bad price

I don't know, if the roof was deformed, then that frame has been messed up. Who knows what sort of unseen damage it has. Lastly, when it comes to selling it later on, virtually no dealer will touch them, nor will anyone be willing to pay anything substantial for it.
BUT - considering the fact that he'd be down to keep it as a track only car, then this deal actually makes a lot of sense.
