Congrats on the GR Yaris.
As a GR Yaris owner I have to make a few corrections to your statements though:
- There is fake sound and the exhaust is extremely quiet stock (the fake sound can easily be switched off using Toyota Techstream)
- The mode selector changes the torque split. Sport Mode will send 30% of the power to the front and 70% to the back; Track mode will give you a 50:50 distribution; Normal Mode sends 60% to the front and 40% to the back
A few suggestions for mods:
- You have an Australian Base spec car, so no locking diffs front and back, the full on model has torsens and they really change the car for the better - maybe consider installing those or you could spring for Cuscos Mechanical locking diffs
- Different Wheels and Tyres - the wheels that the base car is running stock are quite heavy and the Dunlops are genuinely quite bad.
- If you're going to be tuning for big power you will need to install Valve Springs; otherwise you will get valve float. You can source those from Kelford.
- Get an alignment; It's been reported over and over again that these cars are often delivered with an alignment that is out of spec. You could also install Toyotas official camber bolts and run a bit more toe on the front - this sharpens up steering.
I would imagine they research and plan what mods they are going to do to a car before buying it. They buy most of their cars to make content so helps to have a plan of attack probs xP

@@kamillesniewicz7174 Goodluck getting a rallye over here as they were only available in very limited numbers. BTW the Rallye is better than the "Circuit Pack" in the UK because we get the Japanese spec version which has more power from factory. The UK got dudded LOL.
@@jeanblue8424 The difference being that the EU / UK Market version has a gasoline particulate filter. This makes a difference of a few hp (according to Toyota 261 PS vs 268) and that seems to be about right when looking at dyno numbers. You can't really fault Toyota for complying with local emmision regulations.

@@chrisquinlivan9513 exactly right, just have to never forget that it's there. Life is full of hard times, some harder than others. If we only had good times, we wouldn't be able to appreciate them because we wouldn't have anything to compare them to.
To anyone who thinks it's silly think about this for some perspective. An individual's experience can never truly be shared, you cannot literally walk a day in someone else's shoes let alone a lifetime. Individually we are all doing the hardest things we have ever done. Individually, none of us have been alive this long.
I find myself with thoughts of throwing in the towel quite often, but I remind myself that I'm far from alone and many go through the same or similar. I remind myself of other hard times that I thought I wouldn't get through but did. I tell myself "I can do this" even if i don't believe it at first, because we create our internal battles the same way, by starting to believe something that we didn't before, however that is triggered. We are the universe experiencing itself, be your own main character and live well my friends.
Be strong man, your life WILL get better.

I have NEVER, in 12ish years of watching this channel, been so excited seeing a new car pull into your workshop! These are absolutely immense and I'm so, so happy that you have one! I'm a GT-Four owner/addict and I'm actually selling one of my ST205s this year to buy a GR Yaris! 😁

@@MrFozzie52 Yea, the Delorean Motor Company. It has new owners and they're trying to get everything approved to be able to not just build "heritage" cars from the remaining stock left over from the original plant in Ireland... but they're trying to actually make more of them and modernize them into electric cars.
Its been happening over the course of the last 15 years or so, but there is still no telling when these cars will actually see the light of day because they made a similar announcement around 8 years ago or so.
@@rotor13 that's cool there's a TV show in the UK about a company that converts cars to electric. I've seen them do a beetle, lr defender, old mgs ect. But in the background on one episode I saw a delorian which to me seems the perfect car to go electric. I know one of the things they do is build kits for other people/companies to help build electric cars.

It is not consistent. For last few years, they are just going around in loop with nothing much new. Production quality of the videos are also on downfall, with longer cuts with nothing happening.

I love the fact that it’s a 1.6L 3 cylinder making 200kw and the old Holden VN 5L v8’s only made 165kw. 😂
It's mind blowing. I've got a VF2 SV6 3.6 litre which, IIRC, is 215 kW. And that's pretty damn good...but it's literally more than twice as big with twice the number of cylinders for just 15 extra kW O.o

I was gutted when you sold Martys car in the big road trip special but this more than makes up for it. The Yaris GR is one of only a few new cars that would still be considered a 'hot hatch'

Was just showing these to the wife after seeing one down in the local Total Tools carpark. Looks sweet!
Though a little part of me feels a bit heartbroken, that yet another vehicle gets added to the series, and we've still not seen a return of Marty's JDM Gemini Coupe.
The trusty Gemini was also my first car, and I always had a soft spot for the coupes, would love to see Marty's one finally get some MCM attention.
I really hope this helps improve Marty's relationship with Toyotas! I was devastated when he had such a bad experience with the MR2 build as I'm an MR2 turbo owner myself. I waited YEARS for that build to come out and Marty didn't seem too impressed (Marty hinted it was coming a few years ago at one of your meets so I knew about it for ages until the reveal)
I am absolutely frothing for this one. I LOVE these little weapons, can't wait to follow the journey!
As a first mod, it would be great to add the track pack differential upgrade! Looks like this is the comfort pack 🙏 and see the difference
This was amazing. Love you guys. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Being as you only have a base yaris I'd suggest that you start with front and rear Torsen differentials, lighter wheels and better rubber and possibly a wheel alignment. Supposedly, some aren't set up great from factory.

Awesome man, the GR Yaris is a great car! Only small critisism I have is it's not the Track Pack, so no big brakes, forged wheels and extra locking diff, but hey ho I'm sure you got a killer deal on it and that stuff can be added on :)
The brakes are not different, they just painted the calipers red. The only performance parts not on the base model are the wheels, diffs and suspension.
They're not called Mighty Car Stock ;) For them having to modify it is a plus point.
I mean having around 10 grand lower in prices makes it great no matter what spec it is..

I legitimately got extremely excited when I saw the Yaris :D
I thought of course it would be a wack nugget but I did not expect it to be the king of hot hatches. That’s golf R speeds in a car the size of a polo. That’s a rally homologation car that never got to do a rally. The adjustable 4 wheel drive with what was it, up to 80% to the rear wheels? Completely bonkers mate.

Been my dream car ever since it was announced a few years ago. Needed a little more space so cancelled the Rallye order and got an I30N instead which is amazing but definitely will get one of these nuggets down the road!

also the dial control the diff - normal is a 60 40 split to the front, sport 70 30 to the rear and sport is 5050 all round. Have fun lad.

Rumor has it that Tommi Makinen was inspired by the Yaris Hilton build so much that Toyota homologated the GR Yaris for WRC (now Rally 1).

I know you guys are tall, but I'm 6'4" (194cm) and mostly legs. I was rather surprised when I actually fit in one of these.
Would you believe that these have better leg room/tall-person-capacity than an 86/BRZ? I test drove an 86 and was cramped. The GR has more driver's legroom.

I saw online there is GR Yaris race chips already out giving 7 different maps available, that should be a easy first modification to free up some kilowatts and torque.
Watching Marty get excited about this thing reminds me of when i picked up my 22 Veloster N hahah, I love it, so wholesome. Great video guys. Moogs "There's a little red thing on it" comment hit pretty close to home as well.

Im bummed we never got the GR Yaris in the States. Such an awesome car but they only ever sold the standard Yaris here. We have to wait for the rumored GR Corolla (2023 supposedly). But in retrospect Im quite happy with my 2020 Honda Civic Si 2-Door Coupe in beautiful "Rallye Red" with the optional 18" red-striped wheels. The short-ratio 6-speed manual combined with 2900 lbs curb weight makes up for its lack of power vs the competition (205 BHP). I plan on a 20 PSI tune plus supporting mods to hit 250 BHP sometime this summer or next summer, whenever I finally say "screw the warranty". These small cars are indeed better than big ones if you ask me. 40 MPG highway and yet Ive already hit 137 MPH in it, theres absolutely no downside when you don't have children. Can't wait to see what you guys do with the Yaris, will be one hell of a project for sure!
