All these 90's kids that grew up watching F&F or playing Gran Turismo are now in their 30s, no kids, and have cash to drop on a RX7, Supra, S2000, R32/33, e30/36, Gti, etc. It doesn't help that all the big car RUclipsrs are in that exact age bracket and are pushing the demand even higher.

You don't need to stick mad amounts of power into them but in terms of driving experience and feeling like you're bolted directly to the tyres and engine nothing comes close. I had a 6n2 Polo GTi and loved it, smooth, comfortable, and full of tech. The 205 GTi I had was the opposite, sharp, light and ready at any rev range to kill BMWs and Audi's on the motorway. Interestingly enough, we called out the FB RX-7 in an article a few months back as one vehicle that had high potential for gaining value. I think Marty’s car benefits from a hot RX-7 market and having some really usable upgrades which certainly enhances the desirability. Without a doubt, this car was a savvy buy, even though investment should be the last reason to buy a car.

Even if prices didn't rise, the fact that people are struggling more than ever to pay rent and bills would make owning a car for fun more difficult. Now the bottom level of owning a fun car has increased by about 10x so it's just completely off the table.

    I have my Mini insured with Hagerty here in the US. Seems similar to Shannons in that they insure with an agreed upon value not the typical “blue book” dealer value. The funny thing is my Mini insurance is cheaper than my old insurance who I was with for nearly 30 years. I used to insure for the six months as I drove the Mini on the road then have storage insurance for when it was on jack stands waiting for the snow to melt and the salt on the roads to be washed away by Spring rain. With Hagerty my car is fully insured year round, at a value I set and I added a clause that will give me the car back if it is totaled in an accident along with a full settlement check - and it is the same yearly cost. My old insurance company used blue book and then worked down from there.

    • @cristiannunez5123

      @billcunningham8485 2 года назад +1

      @@cristiannunez5123 Good question. No push back from Hagerty on the agreed upon value for my 2006 Mini. I was reasonable when setting my value. The car isn’t worth $100K. The current private party KBB value for my exact car is it at $5,725 - $8,784. I set my replacement value at $10K. The representative at Hagerty said nothing. Didn’t even pause. Now my premiums are a slight bit higher than originally quoted ($10 yearly) but they are still the same price as my old insurance company for better and longer “on road” coverage. My friends who have Porsches and BMW’s with Hagerty had the same experience. One had a highly modified and restored 1947 Dodge Power wagon. I do not know the “book value” of that truck - but my friend had the agreed upon insured value bit over $200,000 US. He sold the truck for $250K in 2019.

    3d printing is making a decent change for plastics in the old car space. I've made a few wheel caps for some vintage cars, got the nice resin printer now to do clear parts. But I think the real thing for high quality is printing a mould then casting silicone into it. You can tint it up if you need to, get all kinds of geometry into the part. Hardest part is getting the measurements and fit right to fit the body, 3d scanning helps but it's a guide, not a photocopy.
    For the headliner, fibreglass shop might be able to make up a replacement backing that the trimmers could cover. If you felt really keen you could get a mould made and then parts would be pretty cheap for everyone else with the same car.

    Last year I used an auction house sell a few things and the experience (and profit I made) was great. The auction house came to my house, picked up my collection, handled all of the marketing and all of the shipping and money collection after the auction.
    I didn't have to deal with any of the potential buyers or their questions, which made the experience well worthwhile, even after the auction fees. Even with the auction fees on my end I still made more of a profit than I would have selling it locally on my own after wasting hours of my time dealing with private buyers and having strangers come to my home
