in 1960 when I put together my hot rod. I bought a borg and beck 10 and 1/2 inch truck clutch(with the coil springs) for my 283 engine. worked perfect. a good clutch is very important.

looking at a GT86 myself and was thinking of supercharger as well since massive Initial D fan and there is no way i can ever afford a AE86 or a 22B / 2d Sub. but the new GT86 makes appearances as a future Takumi in the Legends movies.. which means i also want a white GT86 :)
Finally finished setting up the turbo/tune on my 99 Celica that's been through a RWD conversion and semi-built 1GR V6 swapped. I've been running it NA since getting it running and rolling under its own power and it's been fine (pushing 315rwhp/320lbft of torque on pump gas NA) but I did destroke the engine, throw in upgraded pistons, and went over the heads/valvetrain for turbo. I'm sitting at around ~405rwhp and ~415lbft of torque now with room to go but honestly it doesn't need it, the Celica is a really light chassis, the 1GR being all aluminum construction is fairly light too. Hell I've done a 2GR swap keeping the FWD in boredom after getting a cheap totaled Camry, running damn near 300hp to the front wheels in that chassis is still stupid fun. One of these days I might do some BRZ/86 stuff for myself instead of just for jobs, it'll have to get cheaper before I do that though. That and I'll have to run out of Celicas/MX-6's.
one of the things I love about MCM is that they are so real, by that I mean they put a car on the hoist and there is still mud all over the wheels like there would be for anyone else. They don't fake it by polishing everything to make it look pretty for the video.
9:55 to 10:07 is the perfect sequence of attempting to follow the book without the special tool, coming up with a better idea than what's in the book, and then saying "screw it, the impact always works".
I recommend the Whiteline transmission mount bushing and the Perrin shift bushing while you're already under there. Just recently added them and its such a cheap and great mod
@@mbsnyderc that trans also wouldn't mount up to a v8. That's generally why when you do a v8 swap, you replace the trans as well. Just in case you didn't know. My comment was meant to be funny, because a nitros v8 superturbo is a very Australian thing to do to a car.
They will wish you upgraded the clutch fork as well. These are known to bend with stiffer pressure plates. Gradually the clutch will feel like it doesn't disengage, until you can't.

what i do when im torquing flywheel bolts, or removing them, is reinstall one of the bellhousing bolts with the box end of a wrench on it. line the open end of the wrench up with those hardened steel dowels, or install a bolt into the flywheel to butt the wrench up against. ive done this for ever, and its such a valuable trick when you're working by yourself.
On a hoist it looked so much easier, doing it in the middle of winter on a freezing cold floor was always going to be a bad idea 😅 but bench pressing a gearbox was fun

The lightened flywheel will put a smile on anyone's face. It's amazing what such a simple upgrade will do for the drivability. At least when I put one in, it was a night and day difference.
@@cradilyz couldn't say for sure on a brz. I would think so but if it's a higher end brz, it may already have the optimal flywheel. If I said yes, I'd be blowing smoke.

Talking about an early clutch job, I had a 2001 v6 mustang, one of the easiest transmissions I’ve ever pulled. Unbolt the trans from the bell housing makes the bell housing bolts easier to get to. Had the trans out and throw out, new throw out bearing in and trans back in under just 3 hours.
I’ve always loved the edits but I am quite partial to the older cuts. Always informative and with sick tunes and voice overs. Very entertaining as always.
One thing to remember when doing your own clutch or flywheel is to spray it down with some brake cleaner before installing. But anyway love the show guys. All the way from Seattle

A stock US AE86 used to weigh about 2830 pounds. Some guys knocked that down under 1800 pounds just by pulling gear. Fast way to make a car faster without spending money.
Audi (NSU) were the first to make production cars with them and licensed the technology to Mazda. Mazda later refined it as much as they could and then they became popular. I would argue it isn't really cheaper than a BRZ because of reliability, maintenance and so on. But it would be cool to see. Too bad we will never see them in a production car again.
