***** It's a joke from Top Gear, which is British not American.
***** That does not change the fact that most people are referring to Jeremy Clarkson's jokes on the show about how all BMW driver's are assholes. I would bet that far more people know the stereotype from hearing it on Top Gear than anywhere else. I have personally never heard an American making a joke like that unless it was a reference to the show. And your original point is invalid: If Americans and British people have the same stereotype of certain car owners, when the cars cultures that exist in the two countries are drastically different, than your point that "European cars are not viewed the same as they are in America" is invalid. And I'd imagine the pretentiousness of Russians who can afford expensive German cars is far greater than the pretentiousness of Americans that can, just based off of how much poorer of a country they are compared to us.
***** Top Gear is very well known in the United States and is one of the most watched shows in the entire world, just because you do not watch it, does not mean that Americans don't, because quite a few of us do. Top Gear got over 350 million viewers per week worldwide, and that figure likely does not include the countless millions who watch the show illegally online. All in all the viewership of the show probably makes up a larger population than the US and the UK combined.
And do some fucking research before you spout your bullshit, because you sound like a moron if you make a claim and then tell me to verify it, and then the sources say that you are wrong:
BMW Russia's website lists a 328i as 2,185,000 rubles which is $44,317. BMW USA's website lists the same car as $39,000. So Russia, which is poorer than America, has more expensive BMW's than we do, therefore less people are able to buy them and they are not as ordinary everyday cars as they are in America. And the level of entitlement is very pervasive in their culture, that's kind of the point of this whole RUclips channel, the original commenter was pointing out the irony that the one guy that did not act like a douchebag is the one that would have normally fit the bill the most.

***** a side note.. BMW has a factory in the US.. in Georgia.. so the import cost is not really there unless you specifically order it from Germany which is pointless since it would get emissions changes done to it before shipping. so you are paying for the nicer car with more amenities not the import cost.
***** You think all that shit isn't the same in Russia? You can't provide just one side of the argument and assume the other to be completely different. What kind of stupid logic is that? And Russia is probably nothing like the rest of Europe, the EU countries are not similar to Russia at all in terms of how they do business. And the bottom line is that even if the car is more expensive in the states than it is in Russia (which it's not, but I'll play along with you), they're still hella poorer than we are. A car that costs $50,000 to them is the equivalent of a car that costs $100,000 for us. Our per capita GDP (according to the IMF) is $54,567, Russia's is $24,805. So if you factor that aspect in as well, than these cars are way more expensive for the average Russian than they are for the average American, even if Russia has no taxes and no insurance that you have to buy with the car, even though they do have those things, adding on even more to the cost. BMW's are for more affordable for Americans than they are for Russians, you have to be brain dead to not realize that.
Your original point was that these cars are viewed differently in America than they are elsewhere, this point is false and that is all I am trying to prove: The stereotype exists in America as well as England, and probably in Russia as well. It stems from the idea that people who can afford them are richer and therefore more entitled, something that is true wherever BMW's are sold (with the exception of maybe Germany), Americans can more easily afford them than Russians can, so it is logical to assume that even fewer people have them due to how much they cost, and the people that have them probably feel entitled because they are driving something other than Ladas which makes them stand out and therefore the entitlement stereotypes probably form.
As for the Top Gear point, nobody is talking about the US version of Top Gear, it's horrible, we don't even like to acknowledge its existence. There is only one version of Top Gear and it's the British one, which a lot of Americans do watch, just because they don't show it on Fox, CBS, NBC, or ABC, does not mean that it isn't popular. And if those channels could get the rights to rerun it they probably would, but the BBC is weird and they probably wouldn't allow that. And my original point was that most people who know the BMW stereotype know it as in inside joke from Top Gear. We do not know if that is what the original commenter was referencing because he/she has not said anything else, but that same joke has been told over a billion times on the internet and probably over 80% of those were referencing Top Gear.

Then the police showed up.
Then he decided he now looked like a complete douchebag himself on camera. Then he decided he wasn't on the van drivers side anymore and told police the van driver who drove around had illegally detained the man on the bonnet.
Then he apologised and shook the stop the douchebag movement guys hand.
that's what happen when someone did not see and understand the whole situation and try to be the judge.

Necra Monium And the fees/ticket for driving on the sidewalk is nothing more than an expensive toll. If drivers were fined thousands of dollars (in rubles) then some people won't do it again.

The driver was actually driving some passengers. That was probably a route taxi-van that drives people to the airport. Doors in such vans never get locked, so that people can get on. Or, probably, the activists could get in, when the passengers got off, and they obviously got off, because the van didn't make it to the airport.
TheShayRetards The van was probably a Marshrutka, which carries passengers quickly along a fixed route like a bus, but the passengers tell the driver when to stop. Perhaps one of the passengers filmed the interaction with the police and sent it to the stopham people.
