congrats! but to be honest, it feels like cheating to me when someone has been a blue belt for so long and trained so intensively and then celebrates the fact that he is successful in this regulation. i also fought as a blue belt once and had to experience how people with international fighting experience took part in a local tournament because they were so keen to win everything. for me that doesn't make sense because the difference in experience is so big. Nevertheless: thanks for the video and for sharing your experience.
Thanks for watching! I get what you’re saying. There’s a bit more to the back story, which isn’t necessarily explained in this video, and obv I was never in control of my belt promotion (I was actually only a blue belt for like 2.5 years, I went on a competition spree during that time traveling the world). But yea I’ve received a lot of comments like this on my previous videos, so I get where you’re coming from! And I appreciate you being respectful about it too. Anyway, thanks for being here 💪
@@joshbeambjj thanks for categorising that again. and it's also clear that everyone can do what they want, which falls under the regulations. my comment perhaps also speaks a little of the frustration of a bjjler who doesn't have the same intense passion as you, so you never know what to expect in such tournaments, even if the belts are supposed to act as a quality differentiator.
Yeah makes sense! The belts are supposed to act as a differentiator, but in reality skill levels vary wildly. I don’t think it should be frustrating though, it’s just part of the game. I think that speaks more to a problem of the belt system.
Hey man! Oh I remember that JJWL, that was featherweight right? Which match did we have together, was it the quarters or semis? Appreciate that man, thanks for following along
I got this recommended to me by the algorithm - cool vid, but I couldn't help thinking imagine being the dude that got his foot popped - you're there to compete with the freshest looking blue belt ever seen, and some 6 stripe blue belt that has competed in 260+ matches comes in front of you with a vengeance for all the lost finals lol
@@joshbeambjj I started a club when I was stationed there and I coached a lot of tournaments. It was hella shady and I lost a lot of respect for the Brazilian refs and tournament organizers there.
