I was diagnosed with Takotsubo syndrome late December 2021, so still attempting to understand what happened. The cardiologist spoke to me before discharging me with the words that “You are the peculiar woman” and that he was not convinced about Takotsubo as he thinks it has become fashionable. Hence I am left feeling a bit in a void but this discussion has increased my understanding. Thank you to you both for your assistance. May you continue to be motivated to inform the perplexed and worried through your RUclips channel as you certainly bring light and hope to so many 🙏

Well done. Thank goodness this lovely lady has turned her awful 6 year journey to an endeavor that will benefit women with heart disease. It’s ludicrous after everything she went through, she finally “got validation from a doctor”. Of course a man presenting at a hospital with chest pain would never be asked if he had been experiencing stress. This is an incredible failure in the medical system. Thank you for this insightful conversation.

Not heart disease related but I repeatedly went to my doctor telling him I was having loss of strength and numbness in my left arm in a year the symptoms affected the whole left side of my body. The whole time he said it was in my head. I finally went to the ER and refused to leave until I was properly diagnosed. Next day I had emergency surgery in vertebrae 3&4 in my neck. The damage couldn't be completely repaired, I'm disabled. I was 53 at the time. I'm convinced I was dismissed from being taken seriously because I'm a female.

Very valuable interview and narrative. I totally agree that even as an active older person, the join deterioration, ostio and irregular heart, other symptoms etc., is a major head ache. Now I just try to keep up excersize and adjust restrictive eating time, plus I have given up butter. I hope they dont put me on too many meds. Let me tell women, just because you're vegan or vegetarian and take vitamins, it doesnt mean you wont have a heart or stroke event. Don't feel shy to get evaluation from your MD

My anginastarted 20 years ago, breathless after walking upstairs etc I went to my male gp he put me on an angina tablet, I had been taking it for a week and looking through the patient leaflet inside the tablet box I read that it stated don't take this medication if you have angina at rest which I did as it would wake me from sleeping so I went back to the same gp and told him what the leaflet said and that I was having angina at rest asleep in bed, his reply was no just stayonthe tablets so I did! Then two weeks later I was rushed into hospital with a suspected heart attack luckily I hadn't had one but that angina tablet had caused the rapid heartbeat high bp and pulse etc that wouldn't stop rapidly racing etc, also I have had classic heart disease for 22yrs now yet only that once when I was rushed in hospital has an egg shown any issue and the Dr who examined me in medical admissions (not a cardiologist!) did suggest I might be an anxious person, then probably due to his assumption I wasn't maybe treated for a week until the cardiologist did his rounds and saw the ecg reading which was shocking and I had an angiogram asap which showed a narrowing in a main heart artery and the dr told me if they can't stent this you will need a bypass luckily the stent worked and I do think that the very short length the egg machine takes the reading for and I am female

That's why i love my EP because she has been the only doctor to actively address my hypothyroidism and now that i'm showing symptoms again she has demanded the GP send me to the endocrinologist for review and whatever treatment that's necessary. Also recently i've seen the GP and ER doctors for lain in my right sternoclavicular joint and they can't find anything wrong but i saw a orthopaedic surgeon who said i'm subluxing and it wouldn't show up on an x-ray and that i may be hyper mobile but with covid getting tested is taking awhile to get done.

Until last year I was finally told I was having a heart attack and when my arteries were clear the male doctors said oh it must be the pericarditis, luckily a female cardiologist discovered the Takotsubo heart attack. She now treats me and was there when I had my second Takotsubo heart attack. She is now sending me to a heart failure cardiologist who is also female. My hope is they can stop the heart attacks.

I had a Takotsubo event in 2017. My left ventricle went back to normal size, blood clots dissipated and that was that with the doctors.
I have been unwell since. I was diognosed with Dysautonomia by Cleveland clinic as I have many many episodes of tachycardia. My life is sad and uneventful now because of my health. I am in the U.S.. And even with these solid DX I still have doctors telling me it's anxiety. My new cardio told me after my echo I was fine I could go shovel snow. I'm in VT now. I told him I was tired of the Gaslighting and he was fired. I no longer go to doctors. I have accepted what ever is wrong with me will kill me and I am powerless to find answers and get help.

@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 Hello, sorry for posting twice ( it didn’t show at my end either time)! EDS is a genetic connective tissue disorder ( most of the body is built from connective tissue). The condition has a number of variations and causes, laxity of the joints , so they spontaneously dislocate resulting in great pain, fatigue and arthritis. The skin is extremely fragile and breaks open easily but does not heal well and leaves huge scars. The heart, and digestive system and most organs can be affected. There is no cure and the worst subtype is “ Vascular EDS” in which the blood vessels are so fragile they can spontaneously ruptured at any time even in the young and cause sudden death. Thankyou for asking. It is not as rare as you might think. The mildest is those who are “ very bendy”. I hope your friend gets more speedy and appropriate help than me. I am a retired nurse and Midwife and most of my life has been stolen by bad health and unsuitable/ inappropriate advice. I think I am only alive now because of how I try to manage my condition myself, but the autoimmune stuff had me fooled and it was always told to me my horrible symptoms were EDS. BEST WISHES.

Jennifer, I was a wholly holistic person when I became unwell. No pharmaceuticals, gluten and processed sugar free, received massage weekly, strictly organic diet and grew much of my own food, no commercial cleaners in my home, used herbs and diet to nourish my body and those of my children. If only it were this simple. I was still taken down by disease. I continue to practice all of the holistic modalities my own body will allow and use them with my family. But were it not for the intervention of modern Western medicine, I would not be alive to finish raising my children. We absolutely need more wide spread holistic practice, I agree completely. But please use caution in judgement of those you see benefiting from or needing modern medical intervention. It is not always as it appears. Best to you.

If you suspect Takotsubo cardiomyopathy syndrome, please have a proper evaluation for pheochromocytoma. Be particularly aware that extra-adrenal pheochromocytomas are difficult to detect. The old 90/10/10 "rule" is rubbish. Pheos are much more common than is recognized. Also, some of your symptoms are consistent with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. The microvascular problems could be caused by Kounis syndrome, also associated with unmanaged MCAS. Good luck.
