Red Dawn (1984) was one of the first war movies I remember watching as a kid. The Cold War was in full gear at the time and I was scared of the Soviet Union attacking us either with nukes or by by invasion.

yeah my big thing in the beginning is you took out a civilian power grid not the military's I couldn't imagine it being that easy.... why would we seem so un prepared for this. one question is couldn't paratroopers at least be able to use a secondary i.e. pistol?
The chair is against the wall. Edit: That was in the original movie. I believe the next line is- John has a long beard/moustache, something like that. It's been years, but those lines always got my attention when I was child watching the 80s Red Dawn.
One thing I thought interesting was the Abn op happened during the day light. WWII occurred the night before the land invasion. Was this deployment because the NK had no night vision capabilities, and they couldn’t assemble in targets at night? Or, this was done just for cinematic reasons, to show the scale of the invasion and the ensuing chaos?
I like the remake, I am 49 years old, I own both of the movies. I like to think of the remake as more of a story of what was happening in Washington State while the original was in Colorado. Great video Buck. I have a set of Gen 2+ PVS-7's, yes civilians do have night vision, I also have a IR laser sight on my rifle.
The radio signal was from free America, not in the occupied zones and the code was "The chair is against the wall" which is a call back to the original movie.
As you guys are talking about paradrop, it made me think maybe That's a reason to prioritize cutting the power, so the troops don't get zapped when they clip power lines!

Good movie for green berets. Many people don’t understand the difference between them and seals and the unit but what’s going on in red dawn is the exact kind of thing SF does. Like if same thing happened to another country we’d send them in and they would build an insurgencency from the ground up from scratch, but ultimately stay behind the scenes themselves So was interesting to hear their take on a movie that depicts an op in their mo. Even if it was a pretty cheesy movie
The Unit would know to do the same as SF. The Unit, offically 1st SFOD-D;1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta,Aka Delta, most of their guys are former Green Berets and Rangers so would know SF Unconventional Warfare and Delta is even better at UW because they have more experience using foreign and non US weapon systems and non military training than regular SF ODAs would. That said all of that info is moot because Hemsworth is playing a Marine guy home on leave and would have some idea of UW and such tactics but I would say he did pretty well either way.
I never thought of that for getting away from dogs. I did get away from dogs. Long story I'll keep short. Did some stupid stuff in my younger days, and had the laws after me. There were dogs, and I just used a flow of water to get away. I couldn't say if they lost the scent, or I just got far enough fast enough, but it worked. They eventually caught me anyways. lol
Good info on why cops shouldn’t wear fixed blade knives, another one that use to drive me crazy with boots fresh out of the academy, was them wearing lock blades put in the front plate carrier pouch, where about a quarter of it was visible right above the the center of their uniform shirts. Would have to show them how easy it was to get that knife away from them and use it on them, before they realized it was no longer in their possession.
When I was a police officer the only knife I carried was a folding knife clipped inside my left pants pocket. I am right handed but my thought was if my right hand was trying to keep my gun from being taken, I might be able to pull the knife from my left pocket.
@@paladin11C40 unfortunately the hosts comment about fine motor skills going to shit affects the officer too. It is a question without any easy answer; what is best to have on you if a perp goes for a deadly piece of your kit. I think most switched on cops would say that you first need training and practice in ground skills because that will help whether you are in a fight over a weapon or not. But as for having a fixed blade knife or not I don't think it is so simple. Anything on your belt or carrier can be used against you by a desperate felon. Taser, flashlight, cuffs, pepper spray, folding or fixed knife, sidearm and/or back-up gun... Hell, they could brain you with your radio if that is all they can get their hands on. In the end I think the answer is more for each individual officer to decide and for them to remain aware of the risks of what they bring into every contact.
Criticality, Accessibility, Recuperability, Vulnerability, Effect and Recognizability... How long do you want that resource out of action.... Temporary - we're going to need it soon.... Permanent - want it gone forever

I’m sure these guys use stuff like that all the time. Like rail gun arc flamethrowers mounted on dump trucks and stuff
Fun little fact here: This movie was filmed in Mount Clemens, Michigan. That's only a couple hours drive from where I grew up. Also, when I worked at a trash company, the guy that trained me ran, and probably still runs, a militia group (no, not the one that was in the news) and trains dogs. His 2 German Shepards were in the film as guard dogs. Also also, my wife has a high school buddy that will always pause on one scene because his pickup truck was parked on the street when they recorded the scene. Halfway decent movie, I more like how they filmed it in my home state. But they should've stuck with yhe original enemy, which was a Chinese invasion.
One thing that always bugged me was there was no reason for the dad to remain down there. There was nothing he could do and it was inevitable he was going to be taken prisoner. In fact it created a liability because once they found out who the kids were, they tried to use the threat of his death to get them to surrender. I'm thinking a career cop would be more useful in guerrilla warfare than as a bargaining chip.
Or as a public servant, a sense of duty to the public he swore to protect, instead of running to the woods with his own kids. How did that work out for that police officer in the FL school shooting that stayed around the corner and never advanced? Your logic is valid, however that decision point to remain with his community is also commendable.
15:30 I was working as a security officer, my boss would show up at work beautiful tied ties. I tried explaining to him that he needed to wear either a clip on or a breakaway because if he had to tumble with somebody once they had a hold on his tie he was a pup on a leash. He learned
The radio says "The chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall. John has a long mustache, John has a long mustache". That goes back to the original movie.

You all brought a whole different view.
love hearing you guys talk about movies and your experiences this is the second review of this movie ive seen and the one thing no-one has said anything about the kid in the police station changing his sling position three or four times in the cores of a minute and ready to strangle him self with it
In the original film the kids are listening to Radio Free America. "The chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall. Sam has a long mustache, Sam has long mustache." Is a coded message to the resistance, however this before the kids start fighting back. I prefer the original version, it has a sense of time and packs an emotional punch.
I'm still miffed by this movie goes supposed to take place in my hometown and not a single ounce of the scenery I recognized it was filmed in los Angeles
Nice one guys... My question is how did the enemy get their vehicles on the ground so fast after the paratroopers showed up? How did they get all those armored vehicles and tanks on the freeways and through the border without Any early warning? The only way to do it for real would be to do some type of joint exercise, where the "friendlies" quickly and without notice become "hostiles." They would also need to control the media from the outset, which is not a stretch by any means.... 👍 Time to check the media's backgrounds....

I know this is an old video for you guys but I just found your channel recently...anyway, I agree about carrying a fixed blade as a cop. I was a patrol cop in CA for years and while I absolutely did carry a knife, it was a folding knife and it wasn't out in the open for anyone to see it grab. I could get to it fairly easily if needed but suspects wouldn't see it or know it was there to use against me. Can't say I ever saw or worked with dudes who carried a fixed blade on their belts. 👍
They state it in the movie, RED DAWN (reboot) that Helmsworth character enlisted. Chet and Matty get into an argument and Matty resents Chet because he "left" and enlisted.
How do you restrain someone ? Some people aren't very good at coming up with solutions to problems or issues they may encounter. When someone reaches from their firearm ... they will often try to grab the person's hand to pull it away which is not the best thing to do. If they already have their hand on your gun... you want to grab their wrist and keep the gun from coming out of the holster. Press their hand down on it and then put yourself in a position to move away. Don't grab their hand and pull it away ... grab their wrist and keep their hand pressed down onto it. The trigger will be covered and you can control their hard until you are in a better position to put some space between you.
"Something is against the wall" is revived from the FIRST Red dawn... "the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall."... "John has a long mustache, John has a long mustache." broadcasted from Radio-Free America.
I believe plenty of teeenagers of the country would form similar units out of their already existing football teams and cliques, gangs, etc.during an invasion/occupation scenario. "totally bruh".
first one was better... also, it's funny you mentioned the knife on a cop's belt. Austin PD allowed that forever. Motors, my unit, carried our knives in our Motor boots. One fight a few years back and the suspect grabbed the officer's knife. APD changed policy to NO carried knifes out the exterior. You could only carry something in your pocket. Motors was pissed.

Red Dawn (1984) was one of the first war movies I remember watching as a kid. The Cold War was in full gear at the time and I was scared of the Soviet Union attacking us either with nukes or by by invasion.
Hell of a week to pick Red Dawn fellas
right
At 8:25 is a compIetely different city. I live in Spokane, WA. Never seen that highway before.
I love this type of video. Make more content beers and breakdowns please👏👏
More to come!
@@FNGACADEMY I know a guy that did the parachute jumps on that movie that would be willing to share pictures from set.
Crazy how red dawn actually happens in different countries
yup!
Great timing!! WOLVERINES!!! You seem like a fun drunk! If we ever meet I'll buy you drinks in exchange for some tactics and war stories!!😂😂🤣👍👍
Ya got a bit toasty on this one buck! Lol! Great episode guys! Love and respect
yea... that whiskey got me
“Purist” here….still enjoyed your video, much more real tactic info than I expected, way better than most movie review content I have seen on RUclips. Great job guys 🤙🏻
I love your channel as of late! Your Hurt Locker breakdown was hysterical! Will you review the movie Executive Decision?
Fun fact the original invaders for this movie was the Chinese but our ccp over lords wouldn’t allow it and forced the studio to change it to North Korea
yeah my big thing in the beginning is you took out a civilian power grid not the military's I couldn't imagine it being that easy.... why would we seem so un prepared for this.
one question is couldn't paratroopers at least be able to use a secondary i.e. pistol?
Best breakdown yet. Truly excellent.
Much appreciated!
Thanks for the valuable info, guys. I learn something useful with every video. Keep it up
The chair is against the wall.
Edit: That was in the original movie. I believe the next line is- John has a long beard/moustache, something like that. It's been years, but those lines always got my attention when I was child watching the 80s Red Dawn.
The Chair is against the Wall:
John has a Long Mustache
The future is now, man. Get some modern nods.
The radio signal was from free America, not in the occupied zones and the code was "The chair is against the wall" which is a call back to the original movie.
I carried a Cold Steel push dagger in my boot attached to my ankle with webbing, but never carried a knife on my duty belt though
As you guys are talking about paradrop, it made me think maybe That's a reason to prioritize cutting the power, so the troops don't get zapped when they clip power lines!
I've been waiting for this one! The Original one is the only Red Dawn there is .. Patrick Swayze (RIP) & Charlie Sheen..(Tigers Blood) is the only faces of the Wolverine's! Not all of us Californians are planless! 😂 😂😂
Good one Boyz! 🤘🏼
thanks homie! OG on the way!
@@JulietActual 😂😂😂 Mybad
Same, this remake should have never been made.
This Ex-Californian had a plan. I GTFO of CA and live in the mountains in a free state.
If your “plan” isn’t to get out of California than you have no plan 😂jk brother
Good movie for green berets. Many people don’t understand the difference between them and seals and the unit but what’s going on in red dawn is the exact kind of thing SF does.
Like if same thing happened to another country we’d send them in and they would build an insurgencency from the ground up from scratch, but ultimately stay behind the scenes themselves
So was interesting to hear their take on a movie that depicts an op in their mo.
They eventually caught me anyways. lol
as a California resident I prefer to think of it as I’m operating behind enemy lines.
6:43... He ain't lying, we're so Fucked.😂💀😂
"What do we doooo?"
Thank you for your service to our country, new subscriber but big fan Team.
Criticality, Accessibility, Recuperability, Vulnerability, Effect and Recognizability...
How long do you want that resource out of action.... Temporary - we're going to need it soon.... Permanent - want it gone forever
Was thinking the same shit on a static jump. Drop like a sack, hope you don't receive fire, pray you don't break anything during PLF and then pick your 4th point of contact off the ground before someone calls points on human speed bumps
You wouldn't jump into a city, would you? You'd jump outside the city, reassemble, hook up with any airdropped vehicles, and then go attack.
What a ON TIME review!! 🤣
right!
Came for tips
You guys never commented on the best part of the movie where their insurgency starts to get the upper hand and it shows the wolverines driving down the road with all these badass vehicles with like quad 50 cars and stuff mounted on top
My fav was the Ford Mustang with a static minigun mounted on the top.
I’m sure these guys use stuff like that all the time. Like rail gun arc flamethrowers mounted on dump trucks and stuff
Fun little fact here:
This movie was filmed in Mount Clemens, Michigan.
Yall need to show more of the movie and talk about it as it plays
He learned
Back then land line phone systems have large battery banks to back up the phone lines.
New favorite channel
The radio says "The chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall. John has a long mustache, John has a long mustache". That goes back to the original movie.
I think the broadcast maybe supposedly coming from an unoccupied area of the country was the thought. Code via broadcast radio was a British Special Operations Executive (SOE) thing of WW2 taking to the European resistance movement. Thanks for doing the break down.
In the movie he says he's in the marines
Are you guys still using the 1950 weapons case? "The Chair is Against the Wall".
I was just hoping you'd cover the mini gun screwed to the roof of a mustang lol
Texas would be fine, Austin would be screwed.
lmfao!
Austin is a blueberry in a bowl of tomato soup.
I'm still miffed by this movie goes supposed to take place in my hometown and not a single ounce of the scenery I recognized it was filmed in los Angeles
I gotta go back and watch the remake lol seems like it aged like fine bourbon when I originally felt like it was a cheap, watered down whiskey.
Time to check the media's backgrounds....
you can airdrop ground vehicles as well via drop plane and parachutes or helicopter insertion
@@hari1240 Right, I remember Air Assault school. But maybe my memories' just fuzzy. I don't remember that in the movie. It was like bang, their on the ground already searching for rebels and they hadn't had one St. Maroglis type jumper hung up!
@@Captain-wc6vj Yeah they sure did get mobile fast, but in this case, hollywood magic can be used for a tactical advantage. Didn't know you were Airborne man, thank you for serving.
@@hari1240 👍
Well if you think about it with a full-on invasion, they wouldn't need to drop tons of equipment. America has all the armored vehicles that they would need.
"the chair is against the wall" was one of the famous code to French Resistance and Jedburghs that the invasion was a day out
Could you guys finish the movie? I believe you guys have amazing insight, but would have loved to hear about more scenes.
Would love to see you breakdown Casualties of War.
If I seen enemy paratroopers I wld kiss my soviet era weapons saying soon you shall live agian after I raided the enemy for the 7.62X39 ammo lol
tactical magazine. got to remember that one
Sean, when you were a cook did you ever cook Sos?
I jumped both with my rifles on the backpack, hanging 5-6m below me - or, on my side. Depending on the mission, long range recce in the "wilderness", as was my "thing", the rifle was on the backpack. But we also practiced other things and jumped with the rifle on us. It worked quite good! I had something similar to an M4 and while I am quite short, I was never hurt by it. But there was one guy using what you guys call a SAW, that had the barrell hurt his calf... Kinda goughing it. Not sure why, he might have done something wrong or it was simply a higher risk with that weapon. (using the Para-model)
Wow, really cool info about dog tracking!
I live in California and my family thinks I’m crazy because I have plans for every scenario I can think of. Lol.
Just remember 1 isn't paranoid if there really are ppl out to get ya.
Im subscribing to your channel because out of all the ex military and police force guys as much as I dislike cops you tell the truth and explain it well and debunk Bullshit
Nothing will replace the original, but this one has gotten better with time
Absolutely love that universe theory
the final scene in the 2012 movie was fkn perfect the chaotic but patriotic charge US Flag held high and up front i looooved that
I know this is an old video for you guys but I just found your channel recently...anyway, I agree about carrying a fixed blade as a cop. 👍
10:56 "The chair is against the wall. John has a long mustache." Straight from the original 1984 movie
The trigger will be covered and you can control their hard until you are in a better position to put some space between you.
yeah stow primary weapons - but also 'jump guns' ? crappy old AKs with an extended mag
Great tip about the dogs, although the chances of me using it is probably zero.
Thats why Vault typhoon is such a threat to the power grid and coms
"Something is against the wall" is revived from the FIRST Red dawn... "the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall."... "John has a long mustache, John has a long mustache." broadcasted from Radio-Free America.
Was there a code of a door opening in this video?
Did you guys just discuss CARVER in a movie review, amazing
What I'm thinking what goes first will Communications then power then invasion that's just my opinion on it
I believe plenty of teeenagers of the country would form similar units out of their already existing football teams and cliques, gangs, etc.during an invasion/occupation scenario. "totally bruh".
If it was a emp pulse it would take out both comms and power, also water.
The two hand slip cracked me up 😂
i LOVE U 2!! fudging amazing!! :D
I was in the middle of cussing you out when you said you'd do the original too. Very well. Carry on.
lmao!
6:39 gave me a good laugh awesome video lol
As Green Berets in yall opinion how long would it take to train people how have no military or LE training in a situation like this
first one was better... also, it's funny you mentioned the knife on a cop's belt. Austin PD allowed that forever. Motors, my unit, carried our knives in our Motor boots. One fight a few years back and the suspect grabbed the officer's knife. APD changed policy to NO carried knifes out the exterior. You could only carry something in your pocket. Motors was pissed.
