I love how you take the time to ponder about things that most reviewers overlook, but that the end user always experiences, like the sound of the turn signals. Great work, thanks!!!
I own a 2004 Allroad 4.2L...saw a 2015 XC60 T6 R-Design with Polstar upgrade on a used lot and I fell head over heels in love with it. As a result I bought it. Loving it so far. 1st Alaskan winter coming up without my Audi so I shall see how it goes. From what I have read and seen on youtube all should be great. Thanks for your reviews Thomas.
This guy could convince me that buying a bag of air is a great value... like his voice and his quiet-charisma (if that makes sense). Also his level of detail is terrific.
This is really a gorgeous design all around. I can't wait to see which versions will come to Canada. They will start arriving at the start of 2017. I was told a V90 will be in Toronto at the auto show for February. Nice review Thomas!
I'm in love in this car! V90 is far more harmonic from ugly tail on S90, but the Cross Country is the real king in this battle! By the way fantastic review and great job!
This is a truly nice Volvo again. And I really appreciate the German way of doing a car review. Too many times after watching American reviews or test drives I just got the feeling that after the test I don't know anything more than how the car looks ... and this is how it sounds ... and there are the 4-way emergency flashers ;)
It's great to see the RHD (UK) version is a complete mirror, including the centre console and touch screen swipes. I have a 2018 R Design Pro and I love it.
Just turned my BMW 520d Touring xDrive in for a V90 D5 AWD Inscription. It's onyx black with the same interior as the car you tested in this excellent clip. So far I am very happy with my new Volvo. Steering feels a little bit artificial and is not on paar with the BMW. But the nice interior, the stereo and all the other tech in the car compensates for that.
Loved your review, simply above all. This is probably my 3rd or 4th full, full, full! With V90 & XC90, Volvo has really upped it's game against competitors, while being remarkably unique. While you keep up your great work & I will always ,"Enjoy Full-HD Full Screen Full Length" :) ha ha ~tc
Thx Thomas+Thomas. Great lighting in the open parkade. Nice to see empty parking stalls in Europe! They actually do exist. Simple solution to rear headrests aka naughty Thomas flaps - have them flip towards the rear.
Volvo estate and Audi avant have always been the leaders in this class and I'm sure they will sell tone of this. With 6 cylinders they would completely rule the class (at least until new A6 avant comes out). It'll hurt them much more in US than in EU though. Great review as always. ;-)
"SILENCE!" *Thwack!* ...thinking back at just how INCREDIBLY entertaining my dad would have found that feature, were that an option in one of our vehicles while growing up! XD ...oh who am I kidding? He still would today... haha
Great review and I hope it gets more people to finally really consider Volvo when looking at the luxury car segment. The technology in this car quite frankly blows away both Mercedes and Jaguar. And, pretty much kills all of the competition when it comes to value.
Very good review. I expected a German look ;)... but it was really neutral and of great quality! Congratulations. By the way, I receive my V 90 in January 2018 !
I love the look of the R Design but with the poor roads and the heat here in Los Angeles, I had to order the v90 inscription with 19" wheels. The cooled seats make a huge difference
Great review as usual. I think the R design would be for me. Overhaul a nice looking car but think they could work harder on having better load space which they were originally known for. You mentioned that the back slopes and I think that this takes space away. I'm sure they can still design a good style.
+Autogefühl Thomas, when you review the trunk can you say how much capacity/liters we got? It would be great if you could include it in future reviews. By the way, great review as always - top class! :-)
thank you Thomas, I like the R line. Otherwise I believe that the german competitors are still a bit better to drive, but Volvo is catching up. Please test also the new VX 60 when it will be on the market.
What a wonderful good lookin' Estate ("kombi") it is... My heart is bleeding for an inline-5 cylinder motor (or six, of course :) ), the R-Design would have been a BEAST with that technology...
Thanks Thomas! I agree with you, the estate is more beautiful than the sedan in this case. The colour combo of the tested car is right up my alley, elegant with a lovely light interior. Much more to my taste than the R-design. I think the interior is best in class. I like it more than the E-class. As you rightly said there is a kind of cozy atmosphere in the Volvo. For a comfortable cruiser like this car that's a very good thing. This car is my favourite in this segment. Although your comment that a Skoda Superb should actually be considered as an alternative does give people something to think about!
+Gerard van Essen - yes, just as I was about to say! My opinion - I like the nice looking estate over the sedan, and lovely light interior with panoramic roof. Comfortable, err, family car! Cosy interior Thomas said. The infotainment system didn't appear to be that intuitive compared to some, with lots of button presses, menus, and Thomas spending a lot of time looking at it when driving, although there was also an HUD. Very detailed excellent Review as always - thank you Thomas.
Around 41:00 the narrator talks about the eco-mode and says that engine brake takes more fuel. I've been taught in driving school that it saves fuel. And what does he mean by the car rolling? It declutches?
All Audi A6, BMW 5 Series or Mercedes E-Class have 4 cylinder engines in this range of horse power, so I think there is no problem. In the future, we will rarely see V6s or V8s engines, except S-RS, Ms or AMGs models, in my opinion. By the way, I will receive a S90 T5 Inscription in 2 weeks :D Nice reviews Thomas, as always! ;)
Hi Thomas! What a beautiful estate! Great review as always, can you review the 2017 Volvo xc90 d5 with power pulse? And can you compare it to the 2016 xc90 d5 without power pulse? Some say that it is quieter than the non power pulse d5. I'd be happy if you do the review ..
I'm confused between 2017 XC90 D5 PowerPulse and E Class estate diesel, I want a relax drive, quiet and classy interior, very safe, and very practical with a bit of off-road capability(I don't mind the E Class all terrain). What's your opinion?
Very nice review, i liked it :) Got a few questions though: How good is -1.) the sound insulation compared to the new E-Class and 2.) the comford of the suspension?- Does it feature ambient light? I find it hard to believe this car offers more comford, etc. than an E-Class, but for it's price tag the V90 has to! Edit: Found out, that you answer the crossed-out question in the review ;-)
Thank you Thomas for the great reviews, absolutely detailed and to the point !!! I was having hard time to decide on my next car with a ~42.000 EUR budget. I simply fall in love with the V90 design, but obviously this car is more for the 50-60k EUR range ... BUT !!! In Hungary you can already order a "Kinetic" version of V90 with 190 HP or even 150HP engine !!! Which would fit the bill ... BUT !!! again despite of the great looks I simply did not dare to choose those models as those most likely would not deliver any of the luxury that makes the V90 special ... Finally I ended up with a BMW 320d GT (after heavy dilemma against a Superb L&K) The reason I wrote this comment (beyond thanking for the reviews) id to recommend one idea: - I think it would be extremely useful for customers in general to test or make reference to various configurations of the tested car - would you recommend eg the V90 with a 190HP engine ? What about a 150 HP ? Manual transmission ? - What about the "entry package" the Kinetic ? Does it destroy completely the car's image (I think it does, but maybe you have a better view against other brands' entry models) So in general maybe certain customers have desire to choose a higher class car, not so well equipped over a smaller class car but with better engine or extras .... Would be an interesting topic for me to see reviews on. Thx and keep up the great work Peter
Hey Thomas, do you still remeber the consumption of this engine? I am not sure if you have said in this video. I have looked it splitted off in two parts.
Mein Vater will sich in nächster Zeit den holen. Haben uns schon die E Klasse angeschaut aber die sah irgendwie langweilig aus. Wird es den V90 auch mit T8 Motor geben ? Sehr schönes Video trotzdem 👌
+Autogefuhl - I've said it before, and I'll say it again - one of the greatest things about your Full Reviews, apart from the detailing, is that you don't edit things out... (We don't actually know this - so rather more accurate from our viewpoint: you leave a lot of good stuff in!). Great stuff Thomas.
we often do that. Quite often it doesnt make too much of a difference as a lot of menu points are named the same. But didnt you check the whole interior part? I did change to English, didnt I ?
I don't 'glorify' downsizing, but I do try to look objectively at the process and HOW it's done. Most distinct example for me, the AMG 6.2L V8 (atmospheric) engine in time became a 4L biturbo V8. And working culture itself is more harsh with greatly lower flexibility.
did you review the car in Germany because the weather and the place so beautiful.question I think v90 is really a beautiful car and elegant too but when you drive does you feet heat to the steering wheel?
These big Volvos were popular because they offered the same or almost same quality as the Mercedes-Benz E-klasse and BMW 5-series for less money. Now it seems the Volvo is the most expensive of the three. Why buy a Volvo then?
Have you really compared prices? For me new Volvo D5 AWD with all the the necessary options will cost 20k euros less than BMW 5 series with the same options and engine... I'm going with Volvo since the new 2017 BMW 5 series was a disappointment due to it's dull and dated design not to mention that 100k price....
. . . because Volvo consistently maintains a way better quality and reliability over the years than Mercedes or BMW. I have rarely had issues with my Volvos.
I really enjoy your reviews but you harp too often in your reviews on leather seats and it gets tiring. Leather shouldn't be reserved only for the super rich. There's also hypocrisy in talking about leather's "unsustainability" while making a living reviewing and recommending automobiles (as opposed to reviewing and recommending bicycles and mass-transportation). Other than that, your reviews are spot on and you are my favorite car reviewer. Thanks!
Thanks Pal, here is a wide list of the explanation we inform about leather: First to the practical reasons: 1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat 2. they are cold in winter 3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling 4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa 5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done. Still, now to the environmental reasons: 1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body. 2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below) 3. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. 4. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? Would you say a cow only got slaughtered for the meat in the leg and thus it got slaughtered for the meat in the neck anyway? That doesn’t make sense. 5. So to the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/ 6. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". An the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy. Special videos: 1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ruclips.net/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/видео.html 2. And another one right here: ruclips.net/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/видео.html 3. Furthermore, you’ll find footage of leather production here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ruclips.net/video/JipYvuDsI6s/видео.html timecode starting 27:46 4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ruclips.net/video/OgHs239bAnE/видео.html Help to raise awareness on this subject. Great review and I hope it gets more people to finally really consider Volvo when looking at the luxury car segment. The technology in this car quite frankly blows away both Mercedes and Jaguar. And, pretty much kills all of the competition when it comes to value.
The estate is not my taste but I find this car a real luxury especially the interior. Good for Volvo!
Had been waiting for this a while. Thanks!
you re welcome!
Very good review. I expected a German look ;)... but it was really neutral and of great quality! Congratulations. By the way, I receive my V 90 in January 2018 !
thanks and enjoy!
Those Swedes just won't stop making some handsome cars.
I love the look of the R Design but with the poor roads and the heat here in Los Angeles, I had to order the v90 inscription with 19" wheels. The cooled seats make a huge difference
you dont need cooled seats if you have the base fabric seats
Autogefühl unfortunately, cloth seats are not an option here in the US. leather is standard.
oh that's a shame!
Great review as usual. I think the R design would be for me. Overhaul a nice looking car but think they could work harder on having better load space which they were originally known for. You mentioned that the back slopes and I think that this takes space away. I'm sure they can still design a good style.
+Aldo Sassone-Corsi thx m8
Hi Thomas great review! When will autogefuhl be available in 4k?
thanks m8! I am thinking about it. Its just that the editing infrastructure has to keep up and then the key question: Can some1 already stream 4k?
+Autogefühl Thomas, when you review the trunk can you say how much capacity/liters we got? It would be great if you could include it in future reviews. By the way, great review as always - top class! :-)
sometimes we have the figures, sometimes not, trying to improve =)
thank you Thomas, I like the R line. Otherwise I believe that the german competitors are still a bit better to drive, but Volvo is catching up. Please test also the new VX 60 when it will be on the market.

+Lucas Kroon yes it does. Coasting lets u roll further
All Audi A6, BMW 5 Series or Mercedes E-Class have 4 cylinder engines in this range of horse power, so I think there is no problem. In the future, we will rarely see V6s or V8s engines, except S-RS, Ms or AMGs models, in my opinion.
By the way, I will receive a S90 T5 Inscription in 2 weeks :D
Nice reviews Thomas, as always! ;)

You should say "You have no problems with cutting off trees, as long as they plant more to make up for it".
Anyways, I love the V90
ye true =) Even Bentley looks into sustainable wood whereas they ignore the cow hide topic
Hi Thomas! What a beautiful estate! Great review as always, can you review the 2017 Volvo xc90 d5 with power pulse? And can you compare it to the 2016 xc90 d5 without power pulse? Some say that it is quieter than the non power pulse d5. I'd be happy if you do the review ..

I just love the new V90, S90 and XC90.
my god its beautiful
I've owned several volvos...would love this car in a coupe with a 6sp manual. It won't happen, but that would be a fun car to drive
Manual in 2016. No, unless you buy a Qashgay
have the new xc90, would want one this design in a 3 door sport brake.

I can't wait for the new V60
Downsizing is good in many ways, but smaller engines wear out faster due to higher stresses on smaller parts !
Finally I ended up with a BMW 320d GT (after heavy dilemma against a Superb L&K)
The reason I wrote this comment (beyond thanking for the reviews) id to recommend one idea:
- I think it would be extremely useful for customers in general to test or make reference to various configurations of the tested car
- would you recommend eg the V90 with a 190HP engine ? What about a 150 HP ? Manual transmission ?
- What about the "entry package" the Kinetic ? Does it destroy completely the car's image (I think it does, but maybe you have a better view against other brands' entry models)
So in general maybe certain customers have desire to choose a higher class car, not so well equipped over a smaller class car but with better engine or extras .... Would be an interesting topic for me to see reviews on.
Thx and keep up the great work
Peter
yeah peter i usually recommend the middle trim levels!

we often do that. Quite often it doesnt make too much of a difference as a lot of menu points are named the same. But didnt you check the whole interior part? I did change to English, didnt I ?
Regrettably, lack of the engine with more than 4 cylinders doesn't allow to treat that model seriously in its designated segment.
You got stuck in time a couple of years ago.
Not everybody glorify downsizing.
I don't 'glorify' downsizing, but I do try to look objectively at the process and HOW it's done.
Most distinct example for me, the AMG 6.2L V8 (atmospheric) engine in time became a 4L biturbo V8. This invoked many negative responses initially, until people figured out that excellent engineering resulted in:

These big Volvos were popular because they offered the same or almost same quality as the Mercedes-Benz E-klasse and BMW 5-series for less money. Now it seems the Volvo is the most expensive of the three. Why buy a Volvo then?
Because the cars look nice, are well designed and they are volvo's so --> safety
Argantonis because its a Volvo ie it's bullet and bombproof
Have you really compared prices? For me new Volvo D5 AWD with all the the necessary options will cost 20k euros less than BMW 5 series with the same options and engine... I'm going with Volvo since the new 2017 BMW 5 series was a disappointment due to it's dull and dated design not to mention that 100k price....
. . . because Volvo consistently maintains a way better quality and reliability over the years than Mercedes or BMW. I have rarely had issues with my Volvos.
My life is more expensive
I dont know if you know that yopu can made the Invidual mode drive and then you adjust the steering mode hosoft or hard you want it ;-)
What is the max driver's legroom in this car, please.
Thanks!
Thanks Pal, here is a wide list of the explanation we inform about leather:
First to the practical reasons:
1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat
2. they are cold in winter
3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa
5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done.
Still, now to the environmental reasons:
1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below)
A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
Special videos:
1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ruclips.net/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/видео.html
2. And another one right here: ruclips.net/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/видео.html
3. Furthermore, you’ll find footage of leather production here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ruclips.net/video/JipYvuDsI6s/видео.html
timecode starting 27:46
4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ruclips.net/video/OgHs239bAnE/видео.html
Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!
