    I really don't understand Matt's annoyance at the Volvo having a manually adjustable steering wheel, adding electric motors is slow, it's heavy & it's complicated.
    If it does go wrong in the future it's also very expensive to fix.

    • @mravocadoman2904
      @mravocadoman2904 2 года назад +9

      I guess it's part of the competition between Mercedes and Volvo, in the sense that one has certain "luxury" features that the other doesn't. Some people apparently look for stuff like this. But I do very much agree with you. Manually adjusting is no problem and is cheaper in the long run for sure.

    About the power, around 6:00. What I've noticed with really any recent Volvo with automatic suspension is that when you suddenly floor it, it sort of 'builds up' the power, then goes, whereas when you slowly press it in (mind you, this can still be quite quick, just not all at once) the response is immediate.

    I think it would be fair to say that Volvo S/V90 is more premium than germans IMO as you can barely see them on the streets while 5 series, E series, A6s are totally everywhere especially here in London. Volvo simply stands out, excellent design, beautiful and fresh interior. Only thing I miss here is V6 engine. Just not sure why they do not offer the T6 model over here.

      I believe this is a reply from Volvo as in the past models they had received massive criticism to having had so many buttons. Now, instead, pretty much everything is integrated in the screen, meaning much less buttons than the competitors as a consequence. Seems they did their homework here :)

    Great review as always, but.... when talking about these new estate versions it would be nice if you could include something about turning circles or the ability to park them. I've had Volvo estates before & yes we all know they're half the length of a football pitch and you need double that length to park them in-line on the curb-side. If reversing into a space the front of my old one would turn on a sixpence.. but what of these new breeds???..
    Thanks for the in-depth chat about all the cup holders etc but that doesn't sell a car to me!

  • @RichieRouge206
    @RichieRouge206 7 лет назад +420

    Oh I'm soooo bored of this constant comparison with German bloody plastics. For gods sakes we don't drive around fondling the dash do we? Ive been in newish Audis recently and some of their plastics are certainly nothing to write home about. Is it really that sad that new car tests can only gripe about interior plastics because pretty much all new cars are of a high standard now.
    The main selling point for me is that a Volvo is an informed, stylish alternative to the tedious, dark and miserable over sporty German brands, which are no longer 'posh' nor exclusive anymore because they dominate the British roadscape to the point where everyone has one! It's almost an occasion to see a Jag, Volvo or Lexus these days and think "oooo thats different" This obsession to one-up and be like everyone else with German brands has reached fever point to the point where it's pretty tragic.
    Volvo are going for the non-sporty approach which makes a refreshing change. I love driving a fast car, but comfort is more enjoyable on our potholed, crappy roads and endless traffic jams. Well done Volvo for continuing to be different and gives that fresh Scandinavian approach.

    And about the digital display, it is there on the Momentum too, but a smaller size unit. I believe its 8 inch where the Inscription/R-Design get 12 inch as standard. This means that in Momentum you have only one digital dial in the middle with fuel and temps as analog lights left and right. It gets a bit overlooked, since Volvo seems to only lend Inscriptions for reviews (but it is important since D4 Momentums are probably the most sold / leased). Momentums also don't get the 230v AC as standard, nor the Linear Wood trim on this model.

    I absolutely hate delayed acceleration, I avoided buying a really nice Holden Calais back in the day because of its delay compared to the Ford Falcon I bought which is instant. I feel the delay is dangerous especially when going to overtake or worse, to get you out of an unexpected dangerous situation.

    Who actually wants a electrical adjustable steering column it takes like 4 hours to adjust it’s just quicker and more accurate with a manual one.

      I guess if you can have a memory that store things like seat, mirrors and steering column it could be nice if several people use the car.

    Saw this car when I was servicing my XC70 at the local dealer, yes it looks a lot better than my car but, I can fit a lot more stuff in the boot of the xc70 and more importantly for me, the XC70 takes three child seats across the backseats.

    As in the commercials, I really feel we should put these reviewers in the German cars and there competition blindfolded, and asked which interior felt more premium. I think there is an unfair bias in favor of these magical German plastics. Volvo interior is superior.

    • @enai-lo
      @enai-lo 3 года назад

      already sat and compared and volvo is a bit lower on build quality, the materials are as great or even better on some part like the wood but the adjustements of the part are not better. that's the real difference , german car are made with less let-by when talking about quality

    The CLS Shooting brake is the best looking estate in my opinion, by miles. A guy I work with has a '15 plate and whenever I use (or spend any time as a passenger) it turns heads every single journey, still really rare to see on the road too so it feels pretty exclusive. Not even close to its competitors in practicality but that's not why he bought it, needed load length not full capacity so thumbs up all round.

    @0:10 yeah but at least those boxes on wheels were reliable, we have an 03 Volvo XC70 with 400,000 kilometers, and just now we are starting to get into the ball joints and wheel bearings but much cheaper to repair than my previous Audi.
    New Volvos are so gorgeous.. I'd only own one with a very good warranty.

    During long drive, changing the AC temp while you are on the free way is as dangerous as texting while driving. They need to stop integrating every function into a touch screen. It doesn't work and is too dangerous.

    This crap about that the V90 reaction time when kicking the pedal into the floor is simply not true. Maybe you should have checked the drivers settings before you tried? Made my own comparison between the three cars before I finally decided to buy the Volvo V90. The Volvo is for sure quick enough!

      In comfort mode, the down shift response is slow. Only in sports mode it will then kick down faster. I still prefer BMW and Merc driving dynamic over it as V90 handle like a barge. But I do agree that V90 is incredibly comfortable.
