Still not at this part yet but alright 😃
Skipped to Strong world😕
Hey Mark, you might want to check out Movie 9. It's got a unique take on the Drum Island arc (Franky, Robin and the Thousand Sunny are there) and the animation is fantastic.
Ridge wallet I'll consider it 🤔I got those old ass leather wallets that's already battered up🤕
I didn't know you watched "The Girl that leap through time" that awesome
Can we apreciate the fact that Movie 6 review is almost as long as the entire Arlong Park saga review? Mark, you and mr. editor are doing an amazing job with these reviews. Thank you for everything
+1
In hindsight, maybe 5 should have been merged with the other 4 and 6 given its own thing.
I won't lie, i choked up during this review even after watching the movie myself- i can't even hide that LMAO
My favorite aspect of Movie 6 is that it came years before sabaody archipelago but yet it got luffy's reaction to losing his crew so right!
I start to suspect this movie inspire Oda to give the separation scene 🤔
The one punch of Omatsuri also so similar to one punch of St. Carlos
It's also fucking horrifying
Also same with Thriller Park in giving a undying army.
@@racchankd3433 I don't think so. That scene was built up for a while before, with roots in Long Ring Long Land of all arcs.
Similarly, it came before Thriller Bark but coincidentally created the perfect evil counterpart to Brook in the form of Baron Omatsuri
mark: "i hope movie 6 doesn't suck like 5 did."
movie 6: "HEY KID, WANNA SEE DEAD BODIES!?"
also movie6:HEY KIDS WANNA SEE PEOPLE GET depression yep
movie 7: "HEY KID, WANNA SEE SOME JIGGLE PHYSICS?!"
Movie 6: "You've played Undertale right? Of course you have, let's revisit some trauma, shall we?!"

Usopp telling Nami that betrayal’s her thing was cold af and rings in my head constantly
Sanji telling Zoro he's not having any dinner hits really hard. Sanji would NEVER say that normally. So you KNOW he was madder at zoro than he'd ever been.
Seeing this comment now today ... makes me think Nami is Imu ... idk why or how that would work out ... but seeing her eye color ... her manipulation of the weather .... she wears EVIL brand clothing in various movies and episodes .... it would be catering to the oda level foreshadowing

Fun fact his some of his reviews video
got deleted by Toei animation copyrighted it oof
It is implied that Lily Carnation increased the Baron's lifespan over his mortal capabilities. So by the death of Lily Carnation the Baron would probably die anyway by the years catching up to him. Luffy's punch probably just took the rest of strength the Baron had left, if at all. So while the Baron is pretty much confirmed dead Luffy didn't technically kill him.
So all well!
I want more dark movies. 3D2Y is pretty dark at times and you will love it.
3D2Y is a special tho, so he will probably review it after he is done with the movies , but yeah 3D2Y is awesome, i bet he will like it
@@Luffy5445 im the first part of this movie series Mark mentions that he includes all movies and movie-length OVAs that are not arc reboots. That of course includes 3D2Y.
I want Funimation to get the rights to Movie 6 so they can dub it. I would be totally cool if this was the only movie they could dub.
I figured that the Baron “meeting” his crew again was a flashback to when the flower started the illusion thus trapping even the Baron

He had us in the first half, not gonna lie
Yeah honestly. I was just sitting there for a good minute after he started talking about strong world thinking "Is this man really gonna spend more time talking about movie 7 than strong world?". Glad I was proven wrong XD. The only question now is how long is the next video going to be with 4 of the biggest movies in the franchise.

If Mark didn't love Movie 6 as much as I did I was gonna be deeply, personally hurt.
Crisis averted.
I tried not to remember it cause of those grotesque moments at the end. I knew the meaning of the movie being that even when you’re left alone you should not despair and that you should try not to linger in the past cause your lost but move on and try to make new friends.

You know this video's gonna be good when he spends the majority of the time talking about Baron Omatsuri. Also props to editor for showing a clip from episode 199, which was directed by Mamoru Hosoda as well.
I had no idea an episode of G-8 had been directed by Hosoda!
Movie 6 is one that I only ever want to see once. Because it has deeply rooted itself inside of me. And yes, that's a plant pun.
This exactly. One time was enough to burn this... Horrifying experience into my brain lmao.
I regret watching it when I was younger, I wish I could experience that first watch again as an adult.
You know, it's kinda a shame Movie 6 dropped when it did -- Brook would have been a great contrast with Baron, since they both lost their crews and were left all alone for a long period of time. Alas, he wouldn't appear until years afterward.
God I would've loved that.
Luffy during that movie six scene where he was pulled underground after being pinned to that rock
Hes desaturated
Then as he slowly regains hope he regains his saturation
Just something I enjoyed
Man... Mark's whiplash by transitioning from movie 6 to movie 7 must've been freaking WILD.
“I watched Watership Down as a kid”
I wanna see mark’s review of Watership Down.
My mom showed me that and broke my mind for the longest time
I loved that movie since I saw it for the first time as a kid (yes I'm a bit weird) 😅 And I was like "Whaaaaaat...?!" when TNM mentioned it 😂
I remember watching it when I was like 15 and I thought it just looked bad. The voice acting was extremely stilted and also just not at all in touch with the emotions. It also didn't really match the animation and the animation itself was just so extremely limited.
Also the book I loved but I never saw anything scary or even political. I still don't see much Communist about it. That General just is a dictator and that previous false paradise is a common trope. Calling it anti-communist feels like quite a stretch. But it was the only book I had to read for school that I legitimately enjoyed and it played a huge part in me becoming a furry.
I don’t know why that film is PG, its more violent than the uncut version of the original Friday the 13th which was too violent for theaters.
On hindsight, Daisy's power to hear things makes 100% sense. How many times does it happen that movie introduces something and main series makes it understandable years later?
I was thinking the same thing. Is this an early sign of mantr... I mean, haki??
I think they kind of stole the “hearing” specifically from Zoro and that little Shandian girl. After all, it was a thing in the manga, and if it’s in the manga it’s fair game. Clever clever...
@@theinimitablejora522 They could've also snagged the hearing idea from Nami, she heard the attack on Syrup Village from the complete opposite side of the island!
Could also be hearing the voices of all things

Hosoda's movie really felt like he made One Piece his own for the time of a movie. It felt like a Hosoda movie and less like a One Piece movie. Do not get me wrong however, this isn't a negative thing. This is also why you want to see different teams and directors tackle a franchise. He clearly understood the characters extremely well and used them in a coherent way to tell a story he wanted to tell, and that benefited from the build up done by the manga and anime, which saved him a lot of time that should have been spent introducing the characters and their relationships.
I was scared the movie 6 review was gonna be short because of other movies. God blessed us
Movie 6 was legendary and we may never see one piece depicted so dark but yet beautiful like that again.. that movie is a gem
I had never seen or heard anything of movie 6 before, none of the movies have been very good to me but wen i saw the different artstyle of 6 i decided to watch it in preparation of marks video, and holy shit it was worth it.
Some interesting to note from Baron Omatsuri movie:
His backstory is essentially similar to Brook, but unlike him, Brook never lets his loneliness twist him to become evil
The order of which the strawhats die is in the reverse order of which Luffy met them
Chopper, Robin, Sanji, Usopp, Nami, and finally Zoro

DRAGONBALL MUSIC INTENSIFIES

That face reveal when the tone changes is something I will never forget.
It is not just the haunting art but how you feel the entire tone turn ominous and built up during Nami's conversation, Robin seeing the shadow of the plant while the background music is just this scary ambient music.
It is pure nightmare fuel.

Believe me, as a younger viewer at the time I wasn't bored at all either. Movie 6 is still one of my favs.
Usually in the movies you're not as invested since you know how everything will go back to usual in the story. But this one surprised me and carried real weight and made me extremely worried for the characters. It seemed so one piece-like that it felt somehow a part of the canon story, and that was a nice touch
I love how in movie 7, not even the Straw Hats take his plan seriously
it is a really dumb plan. specially since he somehow think the turtle somehow means he conquers the world... it's so dumb.

Here's what I remember about the Baron Omatsuri movie... before Hosoda directed this movie, he was doing storyboards for a Ghibli movie (I think it was for Howl's Moving Castle, if the timeline is right...) and supposedly Miyazaki himself looked it over and threw the whole finished storyboard in the garbage. Hosoda left the Ghibli project after that, then Toei asked him to direct this One Piece movie, which he accepted. The old man who was the head of the "Little Mustache Pirates" was said to be Hosoda's dig at Miyazaki.
Yeah, I think I've read about this before. So that explains why there's a rumor that Hosoda is anti-Miyazaki

Mark: FUTURE TRUNKS
Movie 6 is One Piece like no other. Hosada really brought out a certain level of intensity in this movie with his style and aesthetic.
Don’t think I didn’t see that single frame of the horrifying bunny when you talked about WaterShip Down
Baron Omatsuri was actually more or less my first One Piece experience. On the recommendation of another RUclipsr on how to get into the series, they mentioned the film and that it was directed by Mamoru Hosoda, and that was enough on its own to get me to check it out, with a crappy fan translation (plenty of "nakama" in those subtitles). The film being as good as it was got me to start watching the show, and then I switched to the manga for a more proper experience, watching the movies once I got to the point in the manga they took place at.
When I finally got to Baron Omatsuri again, this time with a much better translation...damn. A masterpiece. The first true One Piece movie, in my opinion, something that feels like you truly couldn't create it out of the context of theatrical animation and scripting. This year, 2023, would actually be a perfect opportunity for the film to finally get a worldwide release, even though Toei and FUNi (now Crunchyroll) don't seem to care about revisiting old One Piece material beside the show itself. I'd absolutely adore a 4K remastered release with an English dub. I NEED to hear Colleen Clinkenbeard perform Luffy in the final act of this film.
Baaron Omtsuri is the dark side of friendship. Not the willingness to sacrifice your friends, no, but rather the self obsessiveness of valuing your friends over ANYTHING and ANYONE else, willing to see others suffer just so he can keep his friends around just a LITTLE longer.
That's a POWERFUL motive, as it's a very dark mirror of luffy's love for his friends, and soemthing that's not really explored in like ANYTHING.
That’s wild. I watched strong world and decided to take a break and ended up watching some of this video. I stopped strong world right after shiki defeated the straw hats (literally right where you stopped the review for this vid)
Great review as always Mark. Movie 6 was in fact, beautiful and horrifying, in the best of ways.

Nah, Jiren is Goku without the Dragon Balls.
I hope the editor gets a raise or something cause they definitely deserve it for going thr extra mile in all these videos.
34:10 And for having some *great* tastes too! 👍
The moment where Shiki turns truly monstrous and most terrifying to me was the moment where he forced Nami to beg to join his crew, like he'd promised she would earlier. That was such a fantastic moment to really hammer home what Shiki was capable of. I also loved everything with Nami as a whole in Strong World. She never just becomes a damsel in distress needing to be rescued, at every step along the way she maintains some degree of agency and takes action.
Chapter 997, or as I would like to say, Strong World 2: Electric Boogaloo(anyone who is caught up will understand).
👌
NICE!
Nani?
It's finally back! The final piece (pun) of the One Piece review collection!
Its back!!
A lot of people have mentioned that they're sort of turned off by the goofy art style of movie 6, but I actually found it to be my favorite way I've seen the strawhats animated. There's lots of screenshots of the movie that people have uploaded to show that the characters are drawn really funky and stretched. There were some parts of the Enies lobby arc that people complained about having poor animation because the budget was focused on the action sequences, but I actually loved the way those parts looked. I realized later that the funky enies lobby scenes remind me of movie 6. It all looks so liquid, body shapes and lines are constantly changing and sort of inconsistant. It sort of invokes the feeling of looking at really sketchy artwork, where you can't really find the solid lines and shapes.
I think this style is really suited to a story like one piece, I sort of wish the entire series was animated like this.
I've been waiting for this movie 6 review, I'm so excited
Surprise, Surprise... he loved it.

34:12 A man of culture indeed.
Can't wait to see Film Gold review it's my favorite but Strong World takes these movies to another level completely seeing Shiki vs Luffy is dope
Movie 6: Hey Kids, wanna see dead bodies?
Audience: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
2:00 pre-Strong World movies (that is, movies with little involvement from Oda) do feel like that. The SHs are often reduced to their most basic archetypes: Luffy is a strong, glutton idiot (Goku, basically), Nami is greedy and little else, Zoro is super serious, Sanji is a Roshi-style lech (in movie 2, he tries to cop a feel on Nami, he'd NEVER do that normally), Usopp is a whiny coward, Chopper is a mascot, and, as Mark said, Robin is a plot dispenser. They feel like caricatures rather than the complex characters they actually are.
In short, One Piece movies often don't get One Piece characters. You can't just make a boilerplate story and paste them over it. Movie 5 is a 90s anime with OP characters pasted in, Omatsuri is a Hosoda vehicle with OP characters pasted in, Movie 7 is... something. Strong World is the true first good One Piece movie because it was thought as a One Piece story first.
I don't mind the direction Omatsuri took when it comes to displaying the Straw Hat Pirates since it goes much deeper into their relationships and their team dynamics (especially if we're talking about Luffy's PIV) instead of just using shallow, flanderized versions of the characters, like the movies before did. Also, I see the fact that it's a "Hosoda vehicle with OP characters pasted in" more as a positive than anything, considering how samey big Shonen movies mostly are. Giving directors (with enough knowledge of the source material, of course) the freedom to take an established franchise and put their own spin on it is much more interesting than the shit we normally see in this case, I feel.
Yeah in all the movies pre-Strong World the characters are reduced to their gags (which are far from their actual personality)
Luffy is alot better written and more intresting in the actual series. Almost all the movies fail to capture his character, he really is just Goku in the first movies.
Nami (this is the character that I have the most problem with the way is portrayed in the early movies) she is far from a simple money hungry greedy fanservice women, they always try to paint her in a way that makes her look like she would do anything for money, tries to seduce the bartender dude for info and all that, it gives a far different vibe to the character than it is. Not once has she ever done that in the entire series, she would rather steal it or threathened them into lower the price. That's a big part from her arc. She just stole from pirates (who she hated), if she was like in the movies she wouldn't have struggled anywhere near as much nor taking anywhere near as long to get the money to buy her village back.
Zoro is beyond boring, does nothing but fight
Thankfully the new movies are far better in the handling of the characters.
Hey goku is way more than just strong glutton idiot .
Film 6 features a villain with a deep motive beyond 'greed/strenght/take over the world/evil' who is genuinely terrifying and serves as a dark mirror to luffy, with the moie further cotnrasted by its lighter first half and MUCH darker second half, and it displays not only Luffy at his most strained and defeated (prior to Sabaody and Marineford) but also luffy pushed to his very limits, and displaying his sheer love of his crew (again, accidentally foreshaodwing things come Marineford)
It's not on the same levvel as 'dumb mad scientist builds mecha and gets scolded by his mom' or 'evil dude eats tusks'
Hopes He does character breakdowns of the Straw Hats and it's many characters and villains
I haven't seen movie 6 but just listening to the review gave me chills
Check it out. It's totally worth it.
I just noticed that the same guy who animated movie 6 animated the punch on the celestial dragon
God I love movie 6 so freaking much, it's so creepy and freaky and so unexpectedly GOOD like it meshes so well with the strawhats and it's so unsettling and ... I could talk about it forever.
YO, POPPING OFF WITH THE PIRATE WARRIORS 3 OST
Luffy isn't adverse to killing, and after everything the baron did? Yeah, I'd expect he'd hit him about as hard as he possibly could.
Well, Oda’s reason for not killing enemies is because he finds it more satisfying to let them see their hopes/dreams/goal shatter and fade away before their eyes.
I wouldn't say that, people like to paint Luffy way darker than he really is
@@RonaKurona nah, he kills if he has to, and this moment is absolutely an outlier, he and the rest out the straw hats do go out of their ways to avoid it most of the time.
I personally don't think that Luffy cares if he kills some of his enemies. With some enemies like Buggy and Kuro you can tell he isn't trying to kill but then there's others like Doflamingo where he punches him through the island and is just like "If he dies he dies."
I stopped the video shortly after you started talking about movie 6 so I could actually watch it, since you constantly alluded to crazy things happening in the 2nd half
Hands down a masterpiece
