So glad to have this close by. We are texans and were planning on going to Bicolinne. Now we can try this out next year much closer. If we like this, we'll go up there!
Well this was a fun discovery. LARP is so much fun and it's a bit tricky to find channels that specialize in it. This looks like a fun game as well. Although I doubt that I'll ever be going to it in person. Would be fun to hear the stories of what happens in it.
How very interesting to see another larp, I plan a trip to Bico next year, but this has definitely caught my eye. thank you for covering it so well, so much info.
If this existed near me when I was in high school I would have been so into it. My martial arts friends and I used to play a samurai roleplay game we made up. We would each separate out in the the woods and take turns where one person is the main character. You had to beat the others hidden in the woods and if you won they joined your party. It was so much fun but it pales in comparison to this. Sucks being a rural geek sometimes. I hope to attend this one day, but until then just D&D and kendo I guess.
Thank you for making this video! I love Sherwood and this seems like a great next step. But as a Texan who is always too hot in our medieval garb, I'm dreaming of Bicolline and cool weather :)
There are authorized cameras only. We also have still photographers taking photos of players so they have memory of the event. It's simply limited to authorized people so that everyone doesn't have their phone out. I tend to be most easily seen because the camera I use is large but even so I am often in the background with a longer lens so as not to ruin the experience for others.
Okay, Hynafolers. I've been looking over the Guilds and Religions, and I keep seeing references in the Guilds to Religions that aren't listed in the Religion guide. I'm researching the Hellfire guild but have no idea who Salazaar is.
best to pose that question in the discord group as someone will be able to fill you in on the answers you need there easier than here. Thanks for watching!
I believe some sections are available to all and some are limited to active players. there is a link in the description where you can join the discord as well as on the website.
I have yet to get an awnser but maybe you were able to have the info. Do you have to camp on site or can you leave to go home and return in the morning?
I would guess that the majority of people come solo. The online forums are fantastic especially signing up this early to get you acquainted with others in your guild (once you pick one) and see where you fit in with all the others. It's a really inviting online community with zoom calls etc so by the time the event comes you wont feel like a solo..
The past day I've been doing a bit of a deep dive and I'm so curious and extremely interested. I do have to ask, when you character dies, does it mean game over?
Within the story when you die you are revived at the edge of the mysts with the last 30 minutes of your memory wiped clean. Your character can only be permanently killed with the players consent
Living in KS. Been trying to find a L.A.R.P. close enough to go to. This one sounds like a good one to go to. My only question would be is it kid friendly? I have an 8 yr old that would be coming with me.
Btw just for anyone watching this video, they have a weekend pass now for those who can’t spend a whole week in Hynafol. It’s all DIY so you need to bring your own tent and food. The price I believe is $197 so it’s also the cheapest one I’ve seen.
Me throughout the video: "I'm gonna convince my ren faire friends to go next year!" Me after the part about do-it-yourself general admission being $497: "Right, so never gonna convince anyone to go..." Enjoyed the video though.
When you add up everything you are getting for a 24hr camping event in a ren faire it starts to make sense from bands every night to camping to an entire game play that strategically happens throughout the week. It adds up to be a pretty good deal for 5 days.
@LARPingdotOrg Oh for sure. But I know my friends wouldn't agree with me. lol. I might try to convince them to do the one day thing though. Give them a taste.
This isn't a negative criticism, but what does Hynafol offer that isn't direct "inspiration" from Bicolline? This sounds like american Bicolline, which is cool, but it seems like a direct copy.
A big differentiator for me is the amount of roleplay. At Bico we’re basically camping in garb with a few opportunities to roleplay, whereas with Hynafol the roleplay is always on.
I actually made your video from the first year! (I didn't go last year) BTW.. PLEASE! As a Welsh speaker.. it's pronounced "Hen a val"! not "Hi na fall" HAHA.. even though the organizers keep saying it wrong. BHAAAHAAA
feel free to go to the website and hit the application button. They will setup a time to interview and all your questions and concerns can be answered! Just because you apply doesn't mean you are agreeing to anything. They want you to feel comfortable with the experience!
@@MrSqueamishJam Considering the process involved in the creation of videos of this quality, there is usually a team and an approving authority who likely isn't the videographer themself, especially as it isn't the videography itself that causes me concern. For many this is their first ever larp. Each year I watch their kit get better and better. For me, I spend my money on camera gear so I typically look like a peasant more than royalty lol.

What are the rules of contact during battle it seems like they don't mind full contact
There are rules on the Hynafol website under the player guide.
