@@Wa-wk6qk I see this asked a lot too. Personally, I don’t think wrist size matters as much as hand size. Look at Tupac or snoop from the 90’s. Those dudes made the 36mm look like a a kids fossil watch
My first Rolex was the 36 gold day date. Still love it but hardly ever wear it. If I do only under a shirt. Nearly got me in trouble a couple of times. It's getting harder and harder to enjoy our watches and cars. As the song goes it's a mad world.
Buying a solid gold Rolex is a no brainer considering how much stainless steel sports watches are selling for on the grey market. The stretch isn’t bad on that one at all. I wouldn’t mind a onyx dial DD I saw a Russian one recently and was blown away.
100% agreed Tom, watches nowadays are getting enormous. The day I got a 37mm Seiko 5 I ended up wearing it everyday instead of my other 40mm+ "nicer" watches.
Vintage Day Dates are a bargain atm i picked up a 18238 full set for near half the price it sold for in 89. Consider inflation of almost 200% since then and more to come, add the Gold content plus the fact you have one the most famous and stylish Rolex on the wrist its a no brainer. Snap em up while you can!
I prefer these older DD much more than the newer ones. They lack the blingy character of the new one because of the brushed case. However I love the DD40 in white gold with the striped silver dial or even the diamond/meteorite dial.
What a gem ... I'm not much of a gold guy but I do lust for a gold Day-Date. Such an icon...36mm is by far the one to get when it comes to the Day-Date, pure class. Hope to pick up a Day-Date for a milestone birthday down the road, maybe my 40th or 50th.
Nice purchase..I'm looking to pick one up soon the ref 18238. You can make another video with this watch going through the variations on the references 1803 18038 and 18238.
I think 36mm is the sweet spot, gives an opportunity to show the case''s ergonomics...and btw it wears well also on your muscular arms therefore can fit anyone.
@@georgeb7641 no, it’s good grammar to separate a name with a comma, George B. Rolex are just quality. I would like to see you and Producer Michael together talking watches and cars. So glad you are remembering the NHS at the end as I think some are starting to forget how brilliant they have been putting their own lives at risk for us. Looking forward to more TGE, the more the better🎥👌
Your Daydate is a beauty Tom. So simple, so classy. I much prefer the simple classic watches over the huge faced more modern styles. I've always preferred watches with smaller faces. Oh... And the Swatch is mega cool 😎
I see you bought a Swatch gran prix too, here in Italy since Daniele Pradé - Ac Fiorentina football team manager - wore it the price literally skyrocked to 1000€! PS. Oh I see you presented it in the video 😅
Have A DD40 that I am in love with, but had a mint 1998 36MM president with white roman dial that partially funded my 40mm, served me well for 10 years & it will forever be a classic, enjoy your new champagne bro !
I wish rolex brings back that old school box to package their new model! Looks like that box is a better build, compared to their modern plastic looking box!
You mention they are now making the 40mm, they are STILL making the 36mm too! Kind of a reissue I guess. Personally, I have a silver dial 1989 and I agree it's the best bargain watch today!
that's a stylish watch winder and the Rolex is in very good condition for the year it was made, and it has no crown guard. I think the swatch watch looks really cool I tried to see if I could buy it but its not coming up is that the right details for the watch?
The gold value per gram exceeds the current cost of the watch...I’m sure it’ll catch up soon but for now it’s a good idea to buy vintage 36mm. Awesome video!
Just curious so I found a 36mm 1979 day date yellow gold 18k Rolex bracelet bot stretched in great condition used. are those really good days of watch building ? And would that be considered vintage? I’m looking into these Rolex watches I prefer gold an quality over diamonds being drilled into it
Outstanding choice, like the gold shine very much so TGE TV, congratulations! Now the vintage RayBans (Shade Talk!), pair of classic Chukka's and you are off to the races in your 912 later this year!
Nice watch Tom! Really like the flashier watches in a smaller size (I personally also have quite small wrists so I know what you are talking about 😅). Also, thank you for the warm, nice and positive words in the end of the video!
this has been a prime buying opportunity for markets on the secondary market. I was lucky to snag a yachtmaster 16622 for 5.6k, and now the price has jumped up to 7k+
Unfortunately that isn’t the original box Tom. Back when yours was produced it would have had a much larger brown leather box with a buckle on the lid. Lovely classic watch design. Enjoy.
Yes all Day Dates had a brown leather box or a rosewood box with brass banding. The green box that you have was for the more standard Datejusts and stainless sports Rolex.
They produced a 41mm version back in 2007-10 and obviously have the 40mm now. The 1mm difference doesn't sound like much, but it does when you wear it.
I just inherited a 40mm two tone yellow gold yachtmaster the 16623 with white face and black indices from my father! I love it and you have some great watches as well!!!! my color variation is now discontinued so I'm hoping the value skyrockets in the future
Thoughts on the Black Bay Chrono? I am looking into my first "real" watch purchase and cant afford to foray into the Rolex market yet- and many of the Black Bay series stand out to me, with the Chrono leading the pack...
Love this video TGE watched it 3 times! I am in the market for a vintage Rolex. Weighing up a vintage DD or a Milgauss CERN dial (Ref 1019), any suggestions or advice?
I’ve just been looking at these and become obsessed over the last week. Bruno famously has a red face one I think. White face, Roman Numerals, newer style clasp. Done! Would you trade a James Cameron in for one?

it was dubbed the presidential because of president Johnson wearing it
Gio, Johnson did have a Rolex but later. The Day Date was launched in 1956 and Rolex gave the then President Dwight D. Eisenhower one as a gift.
