There’s just something about Anderson’s drumming, his feel is just perfect.
It's pure Groove.
Yes Ludwigs end of
That’s a fact.
that pocket
If I’m not mistaken, he use to play drums for his old church. 🤔
I wasn't a Bruno Mars fan when he first came out.
But the kid grows by leaps and bounds every time he releases something new, and his unparalleled ability to collaborate makes him the best dude out there.
Agree 1000%.
You *absolutely* should watch Bruno Mars’ performance on Súper bowl 2014.
That’s when I realized what a fantastic musician, song writer and artist he is.
@@caprise-music6722 yeah me too. couldn't believe how awesome he is. Not just a great writer and entertainer (singing/dancing) but the way the songs were all put together was perfect. Before that show, I was like yeah he's good. Now I know. lol
My son is an exceptionally talented southern rock guitarist, singer, and song writer…and he’s always vexed because what he wants to play sounds like his influences….I keep trying to tell him that there’s only so many notes! I’ve sent him his video to help him understand. It’s not theft when one is appreciative of one’s icons, yet producing something new.
See bruno live, you'll appreciate his abilities even more.
1:03 "The album is coming out in January."
It's actually currently scheduled for November 12, 2021.
Which I’m so thankful for 😭❤️
Also he said he didnt heard that before... common man i dont believe it
bruh i just googled it and ur right i had no idea lol, also new single this friday im way to hyped rn
@@siebeburgman6336 Thoughts on the new single? Imo they're 3 for 3 and I cannot wait for the album next week!
Can’t wait for the complete album from these guys, everything they put out is a total win.
Is it better than Rwandan energy by Cedric&TheCatsanovas tho?
Absolutely, I’m excited that we only have a couple more weeks!
honestly, my family is gonna get tired of me😂
The Album is out Nov 15 it dropped .Mines came in the mail two days ago.
I’m from the future. The album is total win.
I don't understand anything about music theory. But seeing these guys nerd out over one of my new favourite songs is just awesome.
Same here. I wish I could just sit in the corner of the room
@@Cardel34 or on
4 words: Smokin Out the Window
And when the album drops, I'll gladly pop some popcorn and watch you guys break down the ENTIRE thing🤩
#Dopeness
To understand Bruno’s musical background is to know his family’s musical history. His uncles had a band that performed nightly vaudevilles in Waikiki impersonating all the Motown and Pop artists from the 50s through the 90’s. Bruno grew up, lived and breathe these musical theories. He’s been able to “scary pocket” music his entire life.
Yes Yes....Little Bruno would come into 'Trappers' at the Hyatt and Azure would let him perform on her stage. GREAT TIMES.
Gamble and Huff are probably so proud of these two guys. With “Leave The Door Open” and “Skate”, you can hear everything that made the Philly Soul and Motown sounds so great back in the day. The deceptively difficult balance between simple and fun lyrics that reflected popular phrases and trends with beautiful chords/instruments/strings underneath those vocals and their melodies is everything Gamble and Huff helped to popularize in the 70’s. Silk Sonic knows their history, and we’re so lucky to be experiencing this in real-time.
Exactly!!! This is Philly Soul!!
@@CuzCutz definitely
Indeed!
One hundred!!
Triple genius commentary here. Just love this channel. "The horns are the vocals!"
Hearing you guys talk about not remembering the verses really demonstrates the inherent difference between composers and lyricists. I know you were talking about the melodic line, but the lyrics (which stuck in my head immediately) fit to that. Lyrically, the verses function in the same way you're talking about with the instrumentation, they clearly reference Motown and funk (sometimes very directly), but they break it up with modern word choice, idiom, and a postmodern self-awareness.
I think it's best exemplified in second verse: The first couple lines _Got your hair in the wind and your skin glistenin' / I can smell your sweet perfume_ wouldn't be out of place in a Marvin Gaye song (and Bruno really leans into it in his vocal timbre), then _Mmm, you smell better than a barbecue_ Bruno and Anderson are winking at the listener (not even Bruno Mars could get away with saying that to a person in real life). They're saying: "yes, most of the lyrics of this song are cliche and a bit silly, and we all know it, but sometimes things are cliche because they just feel *right* ", then they hammer that home by referencing Earth, Wind, and Fire's Shining Star _Oh, superstar is what you are_ (a song whose verses are literal cliches) before settling back into the more traditional _I'm your biggest fan
/ If you're lookin' for a man, sugar, here I am_
I also think that the " super star thats what you are " is areference to his song treasure
@@trololalolalolalolal it definitely is
Im so glad you said that, I though I was crazy for a sec, because I enjoyed the witty lyricism so much.
Did Ryan know that Domi and JD Beck co-wrote this very song with Silk Sonic? It's a hilarious coincidence if not!
It’s wild that he brought them up right before looking at this!
seriously? Thanks for sharing, what a nice detail to this episode!
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Wow no wonder way the key changes are so epic in this song 🥳#poppyfields 🥳
Pretty sure it was the entire whateverdafucks band so mononeon in bass
it's so cool seeing professionals appreciate good music
Anderson and Bruno were the best thing to happen this year. Hands down.
This album is absolutely MIND-BLOWING!! It has made me A FAN!! The chords, execution, feel… holy SHIT!!
These Two musicians are so well rounded and talented, they can do it all , and are so cool and comfortablly relaxed, you can see and feel true confidence and pleasure they are surrounding their audience with. Love them so much.
This channel is making musical concepts so much more manageable than 2 semesters of a Music Theory course. Thank you guys for making music theory fun
What another great breakdown of such an amazing song. Bruno and .Paak are just killing it right now and y'all hit on the key element... this song just makes you feel good. Such a pleasure to watch you guys completely nerd out and have as much fun discusing this, as I imagine Silk Sonic (Thank you Bootsy Collins!) had in creating this little piece of magic.
You guys are just awesome! First, I had no idea "Leave the Door Open" was filmed in that studio! I didn't catch that! I am 64 years old and when I first heard "Skate" and "Leave the Door Open" I was so excited! I haven't heard anything even remotely so smooth and R&B since the 70's! Every time I listen to these two new songs, I am instantly young again and getting ready to go to the club for the evening! Fun! I literally cannot wait for their new album to come out. But I enjoy this reaction you guys do - and always look forward to a new one. Today you each listed such great ideas for music you were listening to, that I was frantically searching for a pen to write it down! I'm going to check them out. Great commentary, guys! Thank You! (P.S. Been hoping to see an episode here with MonoNeon. You guys - Scary Pockets - has really turned me onto his music! He is incredible!)
❤️
I felt the same way. The first time I heard them I didn't see any video and had no idea who it was and thought it was something from the 70's that I somehow missed back then. Bring back the 70's baby.
the whole subculture of skating rink in the community is where this feel comes from. There is a vibe and a groove that works perfectly with being on 8 wheels and grooving to the perfect track... so cool.
Releasing a song at a time w/o an LP is an interesting marketing choice.
That seems to be the standard approach nowadays. Maintaining engagement with an audience over time and maximising attention on all the songs. Rather than working on an album for 2 years, and only having it be talked about for a week then immediately being forgotten about.
@@AfferbeckBeats agree.
growing up in the 70s, the radio djs would hype a single or two before the album release....doesn't seem so different now.
I looove this! This is bringing back to piano lessons and band class throughout high school! Besides how wonderful these songs are, i appreciate them even more because of your discussion. So much substance that we take for granted!!
This is such a great series. Entertaining and educational ...and love hearing your respective takes on song structure, harmonies and arrangement. Good stuff!
Please never stop with this content!!! I find these breakdowns so interesting!!!! Thank you for all the insight 🙏🙏🙏❤️
It is so fun to see you guys getting all excited and shiny-eyed with music! :D whenever I watch videos of this channel it’s interesting that I always feel like every person seems to be so down-to-earth and kind and getting along so well, being all natural and just enjoying the music. I love seeing genuine respect towards each other. You always seem to have all the good vibes. Like I would totally want to be around all these people. You all feel like an awesome company.
This has easily become my favorite music channel on RUclips! Thanks for putting out some amazing content, I always look forward to the next video!
Thank y'all guys for knowing how this masterpiece was created! You guys are also genius. 😀 More power on your channel!
Completely agree with Brittany Howard. She can do no wrong. She's so good.
She's so good live too!
Charles is back! This trio is always peak 👌🏾👍🏾
#poppyfields
brand new, ONE HUNNID PERCENT authentic.
BUT at the same time a time warp straight back. I cant even find the words for the vibe this brings back to me....
THEY ARE AT IT AGAIN! Can't have enough of your reviews! Keep up the good work 🤗
After hearing that the concept they went with was "what if we were in the middle of a roller rink?", it totally clicked that this song is for dancers. That's why the melody is not as important or memorable - dancers are here for hot rhythms.
@9:27, this is definitely it. I don't know music theory but this song just made me feel like I don't know what the hell is going on and I am all for it!!! Love the whole album to the max.
Guys! Love the discussion with so many relevant historical references. Inserting the little teaching moments is golden. So great!
Can't wait for this album to drop, really enjoyed the insights guys!
Parcels yes!! One of the best bands around right now.
Thank you for recommending @Parcels More ppl need to hear this amazing, talented band!
Domi and JD Beck also have a writing credit on “Skate”
I think the “I wanna roll, I wanna riiide” part is a mega hook!
I’m trynna…
@@richievital2658 oh yeah, lol
Thank you for doing Skate, such an instant classic
It's amazing to see you guys enjoying this on so many levels. Thanks for doing this!
You guys are amazing how u breakdown the song and discuss the science behind the making of a song is second to none.
Loving that you include music recommendations, this is a fantastic show.
Guys, this is one of the best (if not the best) 'musicians react' series. No fluff, excellent explanations and sidenotes, very talented musicians, and most importantly: you guys spend more time reacting and explaining rather than listening.
There are a bunch of videos that purely consist of "whoa this is a good song... uh uh... yeah this is lit... anyway thanks for watching!", without any substance or thesis being exposed.
Plus is that Valentine Studios... what a flex!
Can't wait to hear you break down "Smokin' Out The Window"
Bruno Mars is an expert at extracting tones and timbres from 70's soul songs. Without a doubt he remixes them and makes them his. Sounds so great. Some Barry White orchestration and some MFSB ft The Three Degrees TSOP The Sound Of Philadelphia Vibes as well. Anderson Paak on vocals and drums is so delicious and I think Bruno not only brings out the best in him but has himself taken his style to a whole new level on his flow, feel and vocals.
Nothing becomes yours by remixing.
I'm that guy with regular ear 😂 and I have to say watching your channel makes me appreciate the artists and songs more! I love seeing you guys sooo excited and passionate discussing about every elements of songs, made me pay attention more to the song's details now and it's really fun indeed! thank you for the insights! ☺️
Keep this channel going. It’s the best thing I’ve found on RUclips in a long time!
So glad you made a shout out to parcels. They are absolutely amazing! Would love to see you analyse one of their tracks. They also have a new album coming out very very soon.
How am I just finding your channel now? This channel is fun! I definitely appreciate the moments where you do a little explaination and bring everyone into the convo, but overall this is like sitting in the livingroom having hang with fellow musos.
How, how, how have I totally been clueless about the existence of this channel???! Such an awesome, interesting, and in-depth discussion. Really loved the concise explanations and examples of the musical terms and theory. Awesome to hear you discussing these kinds of things that our band and others think about all the time.

The next single from Silk Sonic is on it’s way. Friday, 5th November ‘Smokin out the Window’, then the album on the following Friday 12th November. Great reaction🐨👏🏼🛼🔥Award season is going to be great… they better Leave the Door Open, Silk Sonic is going to Skate right up. Takes me back to a place that I love, but is so fresh, so current. Just Hope Bruno and Anderson keep going with the videos, such a clever collaboration.
It’s so good!!!!
You guys are my new favourite music channel! The conversations are sooo insightful, but, more importantly, I just love listening to you :) (Ok, maybe Adam Neely is still the best. But hey, maybe you could get Adam on a video one day, and that would be mind-blowing!) Keep it up, love your channel :)
Love the professional commentary!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Silk Sonic is straight fire 🔥🔥🔥
I really just can't love love this video any more than I already do...!!! Thank you for being awesome...
Love this show more every week, please keep em coming boys!
I never could grasp the music technicalities but I enjoy listening to you all discuss it. :) Thanks.
Would love to see the reaction to "Dirty Loops & Cory Wong - Follow The Light"
That studio gear recommandation at the end is amazing i would love u guys to do that in the future as well!
Your pedal jack convinced and i immediately bought it!
Thanks
Another great video. So much fun to watch. By the way jack, you brilliantly defined Brunos music genre in your last video about him - 'Newtown'.
this is such a good show! i honestly listen to you break down anything funk, soul, jazz, disco or whatever
my recommendation however would be 70s library music specifically (people like james clarke, alan hawkshaw, keith mansfield, etc)
Love these videos. Particularly that very professional grade TV tray that Jack uses for his laptop.
Oh, please do Steely Dan's Peg.
I recommend Josie! Becker is amazing in the song
awesome breakdown! funny Ryan mentioned Domi and JD Beck as well... believe they got writing credit on this track too. would love to hear you folks take on Yebba's Boomerang, esp. the live version... new Scary Pockets cover? thanks for sharing, as always.
Respect to this connoisseur! Domi and JD mos def have writing credits for this one according to Discogs.
You know they prepair for the show right?
i love these. always the highlight of my week. Thanks. love from Japan
Smoking Out the Window 🤣🤣🤣 He-lar-ee-us. I can’t with them.
love love LOVE hearing musicians totally GEEK OUT and use ALl the best music language in an intellectual way. Absolutely thrills this old classical musician to hear it! Where are the musicians who talk like this in DC?
"Substance" is the right word. I like Rick Beato's distinction between high-information and low-information music. Doesn't matter the genre. This high-information music!
Yesss. Thanks and I subscribed. So good to see your professional reactions on this. I learned a lot. Keep it coming for #silksonic
The great artists know how to make you wait for it.
The power of a rest note.
I love the analysis.
Great channel.
New subscriber here. I love your breakdowns, and analysis. Making references, everything. Your channel is amazing. I enjoy and learn at the same time. Thank you.
love this channel, my mixer mastering friend in Norway turned me on to it. Subbed within 1 minute of playing. Looking forward to more (and catching up)
I LOVE parcels.almost screamed when you mentioned them!!
I think you guys need to extend an invite to Bruno, I bet he would jump on the idea of hanging with guys like you who are so pationate about music. I can't get enough of watching you guys, the energy is overwhelming 😂
first time I'm watching one of these from you guys/this channel.
subscribed.
I'm not a musician, so i only understand a fraction of what guys are speaking of,
but I love this geeking out.
I'm loving the music recommendation bit of each episode.
Silksonic is a fantastic project and their music is wonderful. The music got a lukewarm reception here in the UK, barely scrapping the Top 20. The sound is far more 70s Philly Soul than Motown!
Silk Sonic is impressive, love love love this group. You got the vibe
Bruno Mars is amazing!! Hey guys, have you thought of reacting at Dirty Loops? These guys are sick. All the best!!
Skate, Something new by accident. Amazing harmonies for your inner soul to make your mind dance and want more...
Off the bat, let me show some love to you guys! I stumbled across your RUclips channel and am clearly loving the content! As a musician/producer/vocalist I've listened to music the same way you guys are breaking everything down my WHOLE LIFE!! SO DOPE!!
With that said...please do an episode on:
* Mint Condition (pretty much the last standing complete R&B band)
* Take 6 the coldest acapella group with the craziest arrangements
* Tye Tribbett (just out of this world gospel cat)
LOVE how much I learn from this. I watched this three times. I wanna see that Bootsy @pockets tweet!
Parcels live session popped up on my feed randomly. What a treat for my ears. So tight.
Woi just found this channel. This is some great content. You guys are definitely professionals at your craft. And very easy to listen to and learn from..thanks!
I would love to see what your take is on anything from Jacob Collier!!
"I wanna get to know ya" into Al Green's Let's Stay Together bridge. Not a rip off in any way at all. More of a tip of the hat. It's just so amazing how many influences you can hear at any moment, yet they also add a very modern vibe with the story, the lyrics and maybe the production style too. I hope they make more music together!
The way the black dude describes the key change during the bridge is so beautiful 🤩
i absolutely love these videos and this channel!!!
i love you guys breaking it all down. i think of harmony and a song, and it's the next part of the on going discussion..
Beautiful! It’s all you say, but for me also a lot like ‘The Love Boat’ theme (which is, like, the same thing in a way). Because of that, it hits me hard, 🤣! Great!
Finally someone said it!!! ABSOLUTELY "The Love Boat" man... at the very first listening.
Love you. Bless you. Don’t stop. Love it 🤙
What an awesome channel! Thank you
We are living in a new music renaissance. The 70s are back, and I’m so here for it.
The keyboard! So genius!!!! We learnin’ AND we vibin’!!!
I really like these videos, from great musicians talking about great music. However, I'd say, that even though the Motown influence is palpable (as in most Soul and Pop music), I think most of the Silk Sonic aesthetic comes from the Philadelphia Soul of the early 70s, the string arrangements, the sophisticated harmony, the unusual rhythmic accents, the psychedelic touches, all staples of that sound. Amazing album, my favorite of the year, without a doubt. Keep making this great content! All the best from Chile.
I love this whole album, i looooooooooove it! And you can hear the love of music all over each and every song.
I don't understand what y'all are talking about but I'm so hooked into how you guys are so excited taking about it
hell yeah, I LOVE parcels very surprised and happy to see them get a shoutout!
thank you for making me hear music in a completely different way! I'd love a Queen episode... under pressure and somebody to love?
I love, love, love the musical analysis.😁
I appreciate the quick gear recommends at the end.
God damn I love this channel!!!
Hooked on this stuff. Thank you!
