I really love how light the Jurassic Park theme is. In a film that could have had a very aggressive, brass heavy score, Williams showed a lot of restraint in creating such a beautiful theme. The franchise would not be the same without it.
Yeah, he really brought across the sense of awe of seeing dinosaurs in real life for the first time, while the cast is still clueless as to the disaster that's about to unfold. It's so pure that it makes the rest of the movie that much more impactful. A masterclass in making a soundtrack fit and enhance the dramatic beats of the film.
I'm a LOT older than you guys - that said, I'd like to see you do this same thing with Ennio Morricone's work. I'd also like you to listen to Jerry Goldsmith's score for "Patton" and Randy Newman's score for "The Natural".
Okay, these blocks that explain musical ideas are boss! I'm hooked as a non-musician who appreciates musicians and music. Keep this up and I think the channel will appeal very widely. For example, I also like to watch Rick Beato and learn all about music and I'm 62 years old. Thanks so much!
This feels extremely professional! Almost like a documentary! Whenever you put a bunch of people who know a lot about a specific topic in a room together and they talk it is always so interesting!
Another great video! Loving this whole series so far but one critique for this one is that the editing here, unlike on the rest of the series, makes it feel like we missed a lot of the conversation which is unfortunate. I think most people wouldn't mind if some of these go a bit long, and on this one it'd have been helpful. That said I still got some new insights and I feel I learned a lot from the discussion that was shared. Anyway, keep being awesome and looking forward to more great discussions!
Just to tag onto this, the end felt very rushed. I mean, hey, this is youtube, what do you mean, we're out of time? It's your show, go as long as you want! But it was so much fun to listen to you all geek out about this stuff. Keep it going!
It’s amazing that a 20-minute video feels rushed, but it’s totally true, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I get that there is so much content we want creators to be editors and only give us their best stuff. But… if you think about these videos like jazz, part of the magic is in the improv. It feels like you guys could have gone off for half an hour about the minor IV and then found your way back. In some ways it feels more exciting than, say, an Adam Neely video devoted to the minor IV and its use in Western music (or whatever).
John Williams deserves a deep dive. Invite Charles back so you can talk about Binary Sunset, or Han and Leia's theme, or the ET flying theme, etc., etc. Or maybe Professional Musicians React could have its own Patreon with longer form content? Clearly you guys love sitting around and talking about this stuff.
"Etc.", may include, some of my favorite themes: "Can You Read My Mind?", from "Superman" (1978), "Main Theme", and "Captain Hook's Theme", from "Hook", "Marion's Theme", from "Raiders Of The Lost Ark", and "Luke's Theme", from "Star Wars".
ET’s flying theme is incredibly well written. Yes it’s iconic in the popular sense - but good grief it’s just really, really well written mechanically.
Professional Musicians React, Charles Cornell, and one of the all time great film composers all in one video? Whatever we did to deserve this, we'd better keep doing it! ♥
This was nice - really nice. The bit of the Star Wars soundtrack that gets me every time is the very end of the Throne Room theme - the way it builds and slows and then finally releases into the end title music (with its b6-5 pattern). Uff!
I could have listened to hours of this. On that note, you might consider continuing this conversation. I guess that's how you know something is good, when people hate when it's over. Thanks guys
That was so awesome!!! So many things that people don't take the time to stop and appreciate were mentioned here. I could listen to you and Charles talk about Williams for hours! Hoping Charles comes on the show again!
Lol, even for a lifer like me, your enthusiasm is still infectious...I LOVE people who LOVE John Williams. Your talk also goes a bit more in-depth than the usual vids. Good job.
I'm watching/listening from a phone during work, with only one earpiece in my ear and this still hits like a truck of goosebumps. What a genius he is...
I'd love to see something like this with Ennio Morricone too. Not just the spaghetti western stuff, but things like the Mission and Gabriel's Oboe where such a simple melody just turns me to mush. His ability to make music be the star of a scene and how he takes you through an emotional journey with notes while people are doing nothing more than looking at each other for 5 minutes is ridiculous. The soundtrack to Once Upon a Time in the West is such a masterpiece. It was also crazy how Sergio Leone had the soundtrack written before the movie so he could shape the movie to the music rather than the other way around.
I was jumping and laughing with you every single time guys! Love the content, please do one more with Charles about Jazz Standards!!!! That would be awesome
This channel has quickly turned into one of my favorites. It's so fun and satisfying to see people get as excited as I do over a 2 second moment in a song.
Thank you for answering my question!! That was pretty surreal, haha. I’m also glad to hear some Hans Zimmer and Johan Johannson references at the beginning. Would be amazing to see an episode on either one. Cheers! 🍻
What!!! finished already? how was that 19 minutes, no way! I could watch you guys all day. Maybe you should make a film version of commenting on film tracks - or a series. Spaghetti westerns?
I don't know shit about music--but I can't wait for your videos and I always feel smarter and like I learned something every single time. EVERY time. Thank you! :)
Fantastic video! I absolutely love watching you and your guests "geek out" over music. I think a great video would be to react to some amazing scores and music created for popular video games. The Battlefield series (Especially Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V) have produced some AMAZING music that I would love to see your reaction to!
When u think it can´t get better...U bring in this guy Charles. I love his channel so bad and I love this channel so bad. This is a truly an epic moment! SOOOO EXCITING, thank u
Without even watching the episode I gave a thumbs up for Williams and for you guys bringing the joy of music. Then you went and did a wonderful episode. I wish these were longer. Anyways, I love some of the stuff you pointed out about Williams, and Cornell brings up a very good point, if the movies weren't successful the music wouldn't be iconic; but the opposite is also true.....without the music the movies wouldn't be successful. Williams is just the best. Thank you guys for another wonderful episode.
As a Williams superfan, I want to thank you guys for doing this. I would also like to suggest listening to David W Collins in-depth examination of John Williams scores on his podcast The Soundtrack Show. Really good stuff.
Interestingly (maybe) that the Imperial March, the part most associated with Darth Vader and the empire doesn't appear in A New Hope at all. They have a completely different motif for the empire in that movie that everyone forgets about, but it's this cool understated minor third thing throughout.
I unserstood about 6% of what yall were saying, but I can totally relate to the losing of the collective shit over these tracks, insane stuff. Love the show guys! Keep it up
Loved the video! This is not even remotely important but I think Bach was relatively unknown when he died. He was definitely an esteemed musician even at the time but what I read was that he wasn't a superstar like Mozart etc. Might be wrong tho, it was just in a short biography i read years ago.
This episode was great. I loved how excited you guys got about the music, understandably since these are some great themes. After seeing you do John Williams, I'd love an episode on Nobuo Uematsu or Koji Kondo.
I would love to see these unedited. You should start increasing the length of the videos. I could listen to y’all all day. I’m even starting to understand some theory. Thanks and keep it up!
Another absolutely fantastic video, but I must mention that I was fist pumping the air when Jack mentioned the Arrival soundtrack!! It's an unbelievable masterpiece, and the the added song with Max Richter (On The Nature of Daylight) is sonically beautiful.
How awesome is that minor fourth! I had to pause youtube to run off and play around with it. Going to figure out a way to use it in a composition sometime!
Your videos are easily becoming those I look forward to the most throughout the week! I must admit, I don't know a single thing about music, but hearing you guys talk about it so passionately and with such a deep and thorough understanding of it, is just amazing. An added plus is that these videos makes listening to songs I might already know, a completely different experience and I just love that. Keep up the amazing work - I will be following along for a long time to come. Respect and admiration all the way from Denmark
God! Listening to you guys (and your guests) is just so enlightening and enjoyable. I'm not a muso (although I worked for 2 record companies) but I just love the deep dive into music. Keep it up!!
Hey guys, thank you so much for sharing not only your wide knowledge in such a pleasant and respectful way, but also for sharing your pure energy, passion, dedication, joy and excitement for a wide range of music with anybody watching. It's highly contagious. Keep it going, I wish you all the best!
This was super fun, you guys! Thanks so much for having me, hope we can do it again soon!
It was an absolute pleasure to have you Charles!! So much fun and heck yes I'd love to do it again!!!!!
You guys are just amazing! Undisputed best channel on RUclips, with the best guests!
You guys and John Williams: what an absolute feast! My inner music nerd is on fire right now
Yo it’s so cool seeing you guys geek out to Williams! He’s truly a legend living among us
The crossover we all needed, super cool
Voting for Charles to become a permanent part of this cast! You guys have so much fun together!! I love the dynamic!
❤
I second that!
Ryan talked about setting up an expectation at 17:48 by picking up the guitar and what he did next is a shocking example of it.
Lmao
Excelent!!! LMAO😂😂
But he didn't deliver on it though 😂
They fucking cut it for sure
what a tagteam, my goodness
the music nerdity is extremely strong, it's so much fun to watch
My thoughts exactly!🙂
Ryan and Jack are getting better and better with every episode. And I'm very happy to see Charles here! His channel and work are incredible!
Go Charles!! We love a leitmotif analysis 😍
I really love how light the Jurassic Park theme is. In a film that could have had a very aggressive, brass heavy score, Williams showed a lot of restraint in creating such a beautiful theme. The franchise would not be the same without it.
His theme felt like a celebration of life, and the wonder of seeing something in the flesh for the first time.
Don't forget Spielberg's influence on the score. He almost certainly specifically asked John to create a theme of awe and wonder.
Guest plays "Mary Has a Little Lamb" melody.......OOOOOH SHIT....GOT DAMN THAT WAS SICK!!
OMG my two favorite music channels have joined forces! I can die now!
Alfred Newman, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Miklos Rozsa, Victor Young, Bernard Herrmann, Max Steiner... old music creators that deserve recognition too.
Dimitri Tiomkin
I'm a LOT older than you guys - that said, I'd like to see you do this same thing with Ennio Morricone's work. I'd also like you to listen to Jerry Goldsmith's score for "Patton" and Randy Newman's score for "The Natural".
I'd add Basil Poledouris' score for 'Conan the Barbarian'...
Chinatown
The Mission is incredible
It is an utter delight to see musicians enthusiastically nerdgasm to extraordinary pieces of music every week. Please, keep that.
Ryan's the Ian Malcolm of this group. Keeping everyone grounded while Jack and Charles are flailing around. It's amazing.
haha
Malcolm in the Middle
Seeing Charles go absolutely ham over a piece of music will never not get me hype. Talk about contagious enthusiasm!

Thanks for the feedback I love to know how to improve and will take note!

Great program Thankyou.
You’ve had some great guests, but Charles may be your best pick yet. Such a passion for learning and teaching music
John Williams deserves a deep dive. Invite Charles back so you can talk about Binary Sunset, or Han and Leia's theme, or the ET flying theme, etc., etc. Or maybe Professional Musicians React could have its own Patreon with longer form content? This! They could spend a whole video on each film unpacking the themes.
@@calebclunie4001 oooh, Marion's Theme. Also the way they meshed it together with the Raider's Theme on the soundtrack album is just sooo tasty.
ET’s flying theme is incredibly well written. Yes it’s iconic in the popular sense - but good grief it’s just really, really well written mechanically.
So, I’m gonna need another 3 hours of this…
This feels like a trailer for a season 😂
There was soooo much energy in this post .
It was infectious ....Iearned lots.
P.s. Ennio Morricone ❤
Professional Musicians React, Charles Cornell, and one of the all time great film composers all in one video? Whatever we did to deserve this, we'd better keep doing it! ♥
This is the energy I need moving into 2022.
Beyond stoked to see Charles here!!
The crossover I didn't know I needed.
This was nice - really nice. The bit of the Star Wars soundtrack that gets me every time is the very end of the Throne Room theme - the way it builds and slows and then finally releases into the end title music (with its b6-5 pattern). Uff!
Biggest music geek out you've done so far and I'm totally here for it! Captured exactly how I feel when a phrase, melody, hook or groove, grabs me.
John Williams on the side is a cool person and down to earth. Him and Yoyo Ma .Loved his work for decades.Glad you guys is featuring his work
They did an album and an ep together you know
I could have listened to hours of this. On that note, you might consider continuing this conversation. I guess that's how you know something is good, when people hate when it's over. Thanks guys
Oh awesome, you have Charles with you! I love how excited you are discussing the legend :D Also super helpful info on the music guys, thank you!
I would love another episode devoted to John Williams. In my opinion, his best work is in E.T. and I would LOVE to see your reaction to it.
Brilliant as always! Do Ramin Djawadi (Westworld, Game of Thrones) next!
The collab I didn’t know I needed! Now they just need to do a song 😜
That was so awesome!!! So many things that people don't take the time to stop and appreciate were mentioned here. I could listen to you and Charles talk about Williams for hours! Hoping Charles comes on the show again!
John Williams is a genius and he will be remembered in the Pantheon of all great composers... That is all.
Wow this was fantastic, definitely sticking around, thank you!
I could've watched this the all-day, why did you stop! there's so much of William's catalogue...please do a part 2,3...

10:27 lmao, this is sooo good :D bring us so much joy seeing this up on youtube
Please do more content with Charles! This was awesome.
Criminally short episode about the greatest film composer.
YOU BROUGHT CHAAAAAARLES🔥
I was jumping and laughing with you every single time guys! Love the content, please do one more with Charles about Jazz Standards!!!! That would be awesome
14:22 Jack losing his shit at the rallentando is the highlight office this video. Great stuff, guys!
That episode was super cool, and brought me hapiness. Would you have listened to the score of the moveie 'Hook', I'd have been ecstatic.
This is the comment I was looking for!
This channel has quickly turned into one of my favorites. It's so fun and satisfying to see people get as excited as I do over a 2 second moment in a song.
fascinating to see real musician not just reacting but also geeking out about music. I haven't seen such channel so far
Danggg this could been 30 minutes and I would’ve loved EVERY SECOND! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
this has become my fav channel rn!! thanks :)
Best video you've made so far - JOHN WILLIAMS! YES!!
That was too short!! We need more of this colab, please!!
Thank you for answering my question!! That was pretty surreal, haha. I’m also glad to hear some Hans Zimmer and Johan Johannson references at the beginning. Would be amazing to see an episode on either one. Cheers! 🍻
Great video! Coming here by way of being a Charles Cornell subscriber. I learn something new every time I listen to him talk.
I love when music theorists get excited abs explain why we love “that part”
Excellent conversation!!! I feel like being there
I'm happy crying about this video 💕
You guys’ energy combined with Charles’ energy is amazing. Do more with Charles please!
Such a good episode! Their passion for John Williams, film scoring, pop and music in general is very contagious.
Welcome to Jurassic Park, is my Pavlov bell to goosebumps. It never fails to do that...
What!!! finished already? how was that 19 minutes, no way! I could watch you guys all day. Maybe you should make a film version of commenting on film tracks - or a series. Spaghetti westerns?
this is the crossover i never knew i needed
Love Ryan's hosting! Keep up the great work!
Having a Grammy-winning engineer on a podcast is such a flex. :-D
The crossover we all needed!!
PS: Charles Cornell's legs reveal!!
😂
This was dope! Felt like I found my people. Was getting chills all over. Music is awesome 😎
Please, do some more videos with Charles! PLEASE!!!!
I loved seeing Charles and hearing his contributions.
I don't know shit about music--but I can't wait for your videos and I always feel smarter and like I learned something every single time. EVERY time. Thank you! :)
Always so good. More Prince please.
I was literally just thinking today that you should have Charels on this! What a fantastic episode!
Always interesting. Whatever the material is. Thanks
Fantastic video! I absolutely love watching you and your guests "geek out" over music. I think a great video would be to react to some amazing scores and music created for popular video games. Goosebumps every time for the Jurassic Park theme.
As a Williams superfan, I want to thank you guys for doing this. I would also like to suggest listening to David W Collins in-depth examination of John Williams scores on his podcast The Soundtrack Show. Really good stuff.
This video is excellent! Your comments are very appropriate, and it shows that you are not only musicians, you are also top-level artists. Thanks!!
Keep it up
I love how this was recommended to me on the day of John Williams 90th birthday
Loved the video! This is not even remotely important but I think Bach was relatively unknown when he died. He was definitely an esteemed musician even at the time but what I read was that he wasn't a superstar like Mozart etc. Might be wrong tho, it was just in a short biography i read years ago.
Great!!!! I love Charles Cornell channel didn’t know you guys knew each other.

So glad you mentioned the planets. I remember playing mars in high school, and playing that and watching those movies was amazing.
Another absolutely fantastic video, but I must mention that I was fist pumping the air when Jack mentioned the Arrival soundtrack!! It's an unbelievable masterpiece, and the the added song with Max Richter (On The Nature of Daylight) is sonically beautiful.
This is some of the most wholesome shit I've seen in a minute.
How awesome is that minor fourth! I had to pause youtube to run off and play around with it. Going to figure out a way to use it in a composition sometime!
What!! Charles is here! My two favorites music youtube channel!! but wait only 20 mn? I hope will be a part2 soon.
Your videos are easily becoming those I look forward to the most throughout the week! Thanks so much Dirk!
Happy to have Charles on! Maybe get him back to talk about Bill Wurtz (or dare I say invite Bill himself?!)
Here through Charles Cornell. Loved every minute of it. Really great tidbits of music wisdom, courtesy of John William's impeccable works
