I went to the silk sonic show in Vegas during opening weekend and I can confidently say that it’s the best show I’ve ever seen!! Every song they did had a different arrangement and it was just so much fun

As a professional singer myself, I've worked with Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Nile Rodgers and Rod Stewart to name a few. It's very satisfying to hear you guys break down Bruno and Anderson's great work. Bootsy definitely hit this one out of the park. As someone who grow up on 70s music I'm so hopeful the success of Silk Sonic will encourage more quality music from young artists and bands. We need music back in schools! Well done guys!
MORE PLAYING. I need you guys to jam more, riff, show off. I just like hearing such good musicians in the between takes moments fiddling with their instruments.
What happens for me with every Silk Sonic song is that feeling of being wrapped in a warm, cozy blanket. Since I grew up during the 70's even though there are the modern elements mentioned, for me the sound is so very familiar and essentially the musical equivalent of comfort food - comfort food done really well. I can't wait to see what the next album is.
I saw them live in Vegas and it was mind blowing. Really touched my soul. I felt very present and it was prob one of the best nights of my life (for sure best musical experience).
Cheers for answering the question guys, and sorry for the confusing name haha! Love this episode, hopefully Silk Sonic do more projects in the future, or even expand on their latest single!
Absolutely!! I’m pretty sure that this track is the only one on the album where someone else is playing the drums 😃 So it’s a relief that if outside talent was going to come in, it was going to be such badass musicians like Homer and Thundercat for bass and bg vocals on After Last Night.
Just responding to them saying the lyrics of "Leave the Door Open" aren't as significant. You get Bruno and the singers harmonizing "sip sip-- drip drip" then "smooth like a newborn". Then the Pac-Man sings "what you smoke I got that haze and if you hungry girl I got Fillets". Smooth and hilarious, they're lyrics are great across the board.
OMG my question appearing on a PMR episode?!?!?! I can't believe it!!!! Thanks, guys, for addressing it!!!! This has been one of the best PMR episodes, so far. I particularly loved the moments where everybody showed excitement going to musical-nerdy land, which luckily happened a lot here!

Check out Silk Sonic's cover of Con Funk Shun's 1982 r & b hit 'Love's Train'. Maybe you can do a comparison of the original. I like Silk Sonic's version due to the use of horns and drums.
One interesting thing I read is a fascinating branding move. Because Bruno is a bigger mainstream star and known more as a vocalist, they have “rules” in place to make sure it’s perceived as a band and the two of them are equals. For instance, apparently there is an agreement that Anderson is only playing an instrument if Bruno is playing one in the same setup. In the video for Leave the Door Open, Bruno is behind a keyboard. In Skate, Bruno is on bongos. It’s brilliant. In live shows, they go for the old school vocal group approach. Otherwise, you run the risk of people who don’t know Anderson thinking they are just Bruno’s new backing band. That perceived equality comes through in the music. Love the video, BTW. Can’t wait to watch more.
Mind blown at the intricate construction of the tracks, the talent and tight playing. Your de-constructions again makes for a higher appreciation of the art. Thanks again.

Great guests, clever insights, funny moments, awesome music and artists, deep analysis but also just vibing about what you are all passionnate about ! In a longer format than before too ! So thank you again, and please keep on giving us those gems !
My favorite part of this collaboration is how it pulls you in. I love the diversity of each song on the album. So many artists have songs that are very similar to other songs they have made. Especially on the same album. The depth of their music shows their incredible talent and the respect they have for the art of making music. There is another guitar player on the opening of the 2022 Grammys. You can really hear it during the song 777. That was the player who was right for that song at that time. I love them.
bruno and andy on interviews have said they made the whole album not anticipating a live performance of it. They were actually intimidated and had to figure it out leading up to the las vegas performances
For those wondering, Smokin out the Window is the only song on An Evening with Silk Sonic that Anderson.Paak doesn't drum on. Homer Steinweiss has worked with Bruno before and has done A LOT of session work, most people would recognise his stuff most from being the Dap Kings founding drummer (speaking of 70s revivalists) and the drummer on Amy Whinehouse/Mark Robson's Back to Black album. So yeah, that vibe man
For me…..This one of best collaborations ever, if not the best!! The writing, arranging, performing, musicianship, choreography, dancing, Energy…….Shall I continue!!! And kudos to Bruno Mars for letting the wonderfully talented Anderson Paak shine!!!!
Was watching an interview of the two of them when the album dropped....The lyrics actually came from a few writing sessions that Paak and Mars had where they were trying to just make ridiculous lines to see if they could put it into a song for real. Smokin Out the Window was a theme Bruno had for over a year and they just pieced it all together.
Silk Sonic is what the music industry needed right now. It brought us back to bridging the gap by making it musically technical enough for musicians, but still understandable for non musicians.
The Chuck E. Cheese chord happens in a subtle way in the original, too (or something equally unusual; not sure exactly) -- you can hear it in some of the background at 6:12.
Saw SS this past weekend, and can say that Bruno + Anderson are just too powerful together. It’s OP. You’ll have no chance to sit down because EVERY single number is performed so well, and the vibe is just too fun. Everyone dance throughout the whole 90mins.
Love Adam's comments about live drummers moving the air and making the rest of the band sound better. I wonder if there's some real physics there, kind of like how priming a gong with light taps before banging on it brings a brighter, fuller tone.
Their show in Vegas was amazing, they're genuine authentic musicians who love what they do and have put in the work and study to be great at it. The only reason it's my second favourite show ever is because I saw Michael Jackson in 1997 at Wembley and you don't just overtake MJ haha
I saw them twice. Correction. I experienced the absolute best concert I've ever been to, twice. First time I saw them was their 2nd weekend and the 2nd time was the end of May. Both Saturday shows and their 2nd show was actually better than the 1st which amazed me. The setlist didn't change but their interpretations of the songs were a little different especially the intro. Here's the entire setlist. Silk Sonic Intro 777 Skate We Took Your Phones Away Love's Train (Con Funk Shun cover) Fly as Me That's What I Like (Bruno Mars song) Am I Wrong (Anderson .Paak song) Treasure (Bruno Mars song) Everybody Loves the Sunshine (Roy Ayers Ubiquity cover) Smokin Out the Window Put on a Smile / Make It Better / When I Was Your Man After Last Night Come Down (Anderson .Paak song) Runaway Baby (Bruno Mars song) Pure Imagination (Gene Wilder cover)(Guitar Solo) Blast Off Encore: Leave the Door Open
I would love to see an episode just discussing Louis Coles production choices in drums, or synth bass or arranging... or basically just anything with LC.
Bruno & Anderson is the kind of success story that encourages me as a underground artist with a small following. Seeing how he’s developed his skills and slowly blown up after seizing each and every opportunity he’s been giving has been inspirational! Mans has quickly become a mainstay in the industry and for good reason. Dude is too nice! I know if I put in the work, I can reach a larger audience some day too, but for now, I’m happy being a supporter. My turn will come too. Salute to Bruno & Anderson🔥
The intro of the recorded version is so eerily reminiscent of Leroy Hutson’s “All Because of You,” as well as the use of strings and the almost lopsided triplet drum fills.
Your four are true professionals, and all your illustrations of Silk Sonic's music were so entertaining and created points and references of playing styles. I was not aware of, job well done. Thanks.
I love listening to people who are incredibly passionate about their craft. There is a lot in this conversation where the topics fly over my head but I have learnt so much listening to you guys analyse it. Thank you guys so much for sharing!
I know this isn’t Professional Engineers React, but in this ep it would have been sweet to hear a bit about mixing. Live vs studio or how the board op could participate or support that live sound. Does that make any sense?

Guys, thank u so much. Was waiting for this😍You should check out "Fly as me" live from soultrain. You would love that I think. Actually you would also love "Blast off" one of the songs on the album. Ending of blast off makes me cry every time
Saw Bruno last night in Boston. He was doing just his stuff and it was astonishingly good.
OH FO SURE! IT'S CRAZY HOW GOOD THEY ARE LIVE, just saw a cam clip of they playing after last night live and they bright SO MUCH LIVE
I freaking LOVED this episode ! There was everything in it !
So yeah, that vibe man
I know absolutely know nothing about notes but watching you guys is so satisfying and amazing. Thanks.
the CEO of Patreon reacts to music too? My life has come full circle
He’s a musician first and foremost, Patreon was born to support artists like him/his band. Very cool guy
I'm here just after your SilkSonic 777 Grammys performance reaction lol
@@ShermanKyle a “musician” and “harmony nerd” that can’t handle jazz before noon
@@brianbjur4796 what is jazz before noon?
@@ShermanKyle 1. Go to RUclips 2. Watch this video, with sound. 3. ??? 4. Know what I’m talking about.
Silk Sonic is a blessing. Thank you for introducing real bands to new generations.
Finally! Been waiting on another episode from you on silk sonics album for ages
OMG. This is the analysis I didn't know I needed. Please more!
Silk Sonic is what the music industry needed right now. It brought us back to bridging the gap by making it musically technical enough for musicians, but still understandable for non musicians.
If u like ss check out the free nationals paak preforms with them also
The Chuck E. Cheese chord happens in a subtle way in the original, too (or something equally unusual; not sure exactly) -- you can hear it in some of the background at 6:12.
Saw them live Saturday. Can confirm best in the biz
Saw SS this past weekend, and can say that Bruno + Anderson are just too powerful together. It’s OP. You’ll have no chance to sit down because EVERY single number is performed so well, and the vibe is just too fun. Everyone dance throughout the whole 90mins.
"We took your phones away"
Love Adam's comments about live drummers moving the air and making the rest of the band sound better. I wonder if there's some real physics there, kind of like how priming a gong with light taps before banging on it brings a brighter, fuller tone.
Silk Sonic is following the Tradition of old school groups with very talented musicians that were jelled 2gethet, locked down tight & right.
there is soooo much valuable information in this video! thank you!

Everything Jacob said and played made me want to hear more from him.
I must be living under a rock. I can't believe I haven't heard this. Totally agree..I need to hear this about a dozen times to 'hear' it.
Silk Sonic… not just for the youngins, but for this mid-America-middle age mama!
And them young folks that listen to old grandpa music like me!
I would love to see an episode just discussing Louis Coles production choices in drums, or synth bass or arranging... or basically just anything with LC.
Featuring Louis Cole!
This is the best music show in youtube. You guys are amazing!
Excellent presentation, carefree and inciteful.
I've always loved that 6 maj7 chord. I first heard it in outro of stevie wonders "lately" 🕶
Please react to "Put on a smile" and "After last night", best tracks on the album!
Yes. They're successful because they are seriously raw and talented. Bruno and Anderson have mad respect for RnB.
Awesome on point breakdown guys....thank you :)
You go. I'm 69 yrs old. 70's is the stuff. I love how you're breaking it down. First time listening I love what you're saying. Feel me
Thank you for talking about Säje, Jack! Just listened to one song and am already in love!
Went to Silk Sonic's show about 6 times. They were so amazing & made the show so much fun! Miss them!
Man! I really enjoyed hearing you guys break down this song! Great job!
The intro of the recorded version is so eerily reminiscent of Leroy Hutson’s “All Because of You,” as well as the use of strings and the almost lopsided triplet drum fills.
Exactly
Your four are true professionals, and all your illustrations of Silk Sonic's music were so entertaining and created points and references of playing styles. I was not aware of, job well done. Thanks.
What a cool cast! Great episode guys!
Hope they read this comment!
that ending song got me smiling like an idiot for a couple minutes now, i love this channel. and i might as well make another request for a l'imperatrice reaction while im here :D
I love this merely for there actually being a modern pop band with live drums,
A real drummer,
Real acoustic drums,
That's enough for me,
But I gotta give it to ghostnote and mononeon,
No everyone's cup of tea,
But for me,
No one can beat it period
