I made a store a few months ago, made a 8 sales within the first 2 months. Two customers who didn't speak proper English left 3 star reviews over something superficial, and now with an average 3 star review for my store, my views have plummeted and i haven't made a sale in a month and a half. My store is completely dead. Average rating means everything apparently. I responded to both in a calm and professional manner. But when your only two reviews are negative it doesn't matter.
Sorry to hear that. You could ask friends and family to place some orders and leave 5 star reviews to get that score up. But be careful doing this

Do you sell in the US and only in the US? That's about the only way to avoid mis-translation.
If you take someone else's advice and get family to buy from you and leave reviews, they cannot use any of your computer or phone system. Shilling is a BIG no-no! And will get you banned from Etsy.
Extra time marketing on social media gets your name/brand/shop out there. Email lists (put the sign up link EVERYWHERE).
As far as non-English speakers, I never set up my listings to sell outside the US, yet get inquiries from around the world. Shipping costs stop 90% of those sales (Ridiculous that a 3-4 ounce max padded envelope costs $45 to ship to Europe, but there it is).

@@ecouturehandmades5166 Actually they were both US sales. One was Hispanic and the other was an immigrant from Eastern Europe judging by his name. Nothing against people who don't speak English well, but it's pretty frustrating when they drop a low rating and you can't even effectively communicate with them.

I think people do care about price. They will never say it. It’s one of those questions that is hard to get a accurate answer. Because people will say that they don’t care about price, but when they’re alone, it might be a different result, or subconsciously they really do care about it, if two options somewhat close to each other in value
People care about price in SOME cases.
There's an old marketing phrase...price is only an objection in the absence of value. If nothing else sets the products apart from each other in a way that matters to the customer....that's when price makes a difference

So far I offered free shipping on all my items, but I noticed that Etsy isn't making the "free shipping" label stand out much anymore. Has this changed and should I switch to offer lower prices and start charging for shipping?

So far. I’ve had mostly male buyers but I also make more male oriented designs
I tend to make things with a more neutral, less girly aesthetic, and I've actually had guys thank me for having items they could relate to! Although women still are the majority of my customers.
