This is THE BEST VIDEO EVER! No b*******, no cutesy chat... Just the facts. And very clearly shown. Thank you so much.
Right on! Still helping people 2 years later. Gonna buy a new drill right now. Mahalo!
FINALLY!!! A simple video! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video. Still learning and this really helps.
great idea for the water indicator
Amazing build, thanks for sharing. Great work!
thank you for your support.
I could definitely learn a thing or two from you about hydroponics! I love the water level idea. Good work, keep it up!
Thanks. Cant wait to get some plants into these things.
A tip for cleaning up the drill holes . I use a butane jet lighter / micro torch and just do a quick pass or 2 with it to smooth things out around the edge of the hole.. just be quick cause it can melt the plastic easy too 😅. Also works well for anyone who doesn't have a large enough drill bit and have to use a utility blade to cut the holes , heat the area to cut , softer and easier to cut 👍
My man, your shirt and your build reminds me of Ricky from Trailer Park Boys. He'd totally have made this tutorial too, lol. Thanks again mate!!!! Legend!
Nice vid man
1 love
Really cool tks for guidance 👍
This is a masterpiece
Thank you sir learning on this here
love the setup and u got a thumb up but just 2 lil things. cover the water meter with duct tape or silver paper to the lowest point where u need to know when to refile. also close the top of the pipe with something that has only a small hole. just a needle big hole is enough.
Put a 90 degree angle on that water level it’s golden.
I agree but i also know some of these parts can be hard to find if you dont have a hydro store nearby
Very good i see you opted for the 8 inch netpots ,,i grow with 6 and 8 inch netpots and the 8 inch pots grow 3 times what the 6 does,,how i dont know but i see the evidence every single grow ,,next time i go to my grow store ALL my netpots will be 8's
Use blue tinted hose for the water level. Algae will build up with the clear hose due to light penetration.
Elbow bulkheads are available and wont kink the clear tubing. Swing it to the left to drain spent mix and back to a snap clamp or ring but not a (tightened) tie-wrap.
You should have a gap between the bottom of the mesh bucket and the top of the water surface thus allowing the plant to air prune it's roots
Digging the button up shirt maaaaaan
😂😂👍
Best ever
Nice! FYI, when drilling into the bucket, go for highest speed, and very slowly introduce pressure to the drill bit and it wont chunk up.
Could also drill in reverse with a hole saw bit.
Nice
Thanks for this vid. Did you have any issues with algae using a clear water level indicator pipe?
You taken the complication out of doing this project! Thanks so much. I see you’ve run 2 lines from the pump for 2 buckets. I’ve not even begun to get necessary items and try this. Is that the most you can run off of one pump? Wonder and helpful video!
Depends on the pump. I just bought one that can do two buckets and if I payed double the price i could of bought a pump that does 4.
nice
Bro a step bit works great and doesn't leave all that mess. Just sayin. Great video.
Dude fuck yeah! Your awesome bro!
drill in reverse, friction works best in this situation makes clean cut.
I'll remember that
thanks for the advice!
You make the hole ~1ft from the base with a 1,000,000w laser. Everyone knows that.
Just make sure nobody is standing within 1.2 Meters of the back of the bucket (2.7m if its on a 4ft table)...
*OH JESUS CHRIST NO! I MEANT MILES NOT METERS!*
@@ChadDidNothingWrong Fuck bro, he isn't trying to blast to china. Dial down those watts!
How often do you have to change the water and nuternizer?
So tap water is still good to use than ro water? Ro is always best i know but tap is good too?
I have a question, for a 6 bucket dwc system; how much gph should my air pump be?
Any root rot problems without chiller
Hello. How often is the water in the reservoir changed?
Pretty cool. When can I see the results of the grow?
I'll post some updates as they come. I tried starting some pepper plants In my basement only one survived because it's cold down there. Currently have some habanero, scotch bonnet and jalepenos started. Waiting for them to sprout. I also have a bunch of hot pepper seeds on the way.
The fitting can be found where? Varied sizes?
if i start in smaller 2inc net pots in another room and i transplant to 6inch afterwards in my rdwc system or will it ruin roots
Should be fine. you will most likely have to cut the 2 inch net pot to get the plant out without damaging the roots though.
once you have filled bucket with water and placed plant in how often have you got to change water in the bucket to grow a full plant (just starting out)
I change water every week. But as the plant grows it will need topping up between water changes
You had the zip tie the wrong way sorry had to say it lol nice vid From New Zealand
Its not the first time that's happend and wont be the last. I'm sticking to my story though. That was a bad zip tie haha
Legit woke people up laughing
John Rock, Hermit had the zip tie correct. It was a bad zip tie.
John rock😁 Referendum coming up
Thoughts?
Can you update the description with Amazon links to provide support to you and make buying the stuff easy? Thanks
No one is going to spoonfeed you information do your own research.
@@probegt75 your snarky comment was not helpful to this 85 year old female trying to survive through this pandemic, so please myob.
"drill this hole nice and slow"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🏼
There are many factors in studying aquaponics. One resource I found which succeeds in merging these is the Keiths Ponics Site (check it out on google) definately the no.1 course that I've heard of. Check out this super resource.
Yiu should have you air stone raised slightly so not touching bottom of tank it will do away with flipping noise
water level indicator won't be of any use IMO it's bent what's it good for if the water cant move freely thru the tubing? and try air discs you'll get more bubbles.
You dont need to change the water?
That my friend is called a paddle bit!
Don't think I have ever heard it called this before, definitely known as a spade bit!
haha the zip-tie was upside-down not bad ;)
Haha I am sticking to my story. I swear that pack was defective.
Haha I only think that because I’ve done it 10 times haha
@@majorgreenz2811 yea I have done it too many times 🤣. It definitely could have been upside down
Much u for 4 pot system please
I run the air line through the water hose...one hole
did the first zip tie backwards
What’s the black thing called sounds like you said ⅝ sparge fitting? As I’m going to hardware store try and find these.
Barbed fitting
Starting mine today. I bought a 6 bucket system with everything included for $129.00.
Where? What is the name of the brand?
@@Trrenik0kb 1 sec I'll find it for you. They are kinda a pain because you have to check the ph and ppm in every bucket but they work great! I put a piece of black tubing through the bucket so I could use a syringe to pull out the water to test it.

@@goodtogrow7774 thanks alot growmie. 💪🏻
how are people filling water with this setup? just pouring it thru the stones when needed? cracking the top would seem to be a problem down the line with some decent sized plants in there
I mix my nutes in a separate bucket, lift my net pot out and pour my nutes in. Or have an extra bucket set up like this one and just lift your net pot out and put on the new bucket. It can be a hassle sometimes but you’ll get the hang of it
Does the clear tubing of the water level indicator let light in?
Yea, switch it up for something dark. If you dont change out the nutrients and clean the bucket for a while algae will start to grow.
@@HermitsHome Ok, I'll give that a shot. Thank you.
Thanks for the video bro! Jumping on that subject, isnt it simpler and cleaner Not to put the Level? I purchased a bucket that already has the level but Ive blocked it because of the Same reasons you wrote in the comment. What do you guys think?
Paddle bit is right, 1" hole saw would be smoother.
Scott Powell spade bit
Recommend to use a colored hose as an indicator to prevent algae
Is there a particular colour that works better than others or just anything that isn't clear? I realise black would work best but makes reading the indicator impossible.
@@jasegtree1206 take blue or red. green works as well.
@@melfmade cheers mate. I'm planning to move from growing in Coco to dwc next grow (6 weeks time). I have been getting good results in Coco for 2 years now so I know it's time to step up to dwc but I have to admit I'm a little bit nervous 😬 so I'm greatful for the tip.
@@jasegtree1206 good luck with that. i went back from hydro to living soil. happy about that
@@melfmade This is why I'm nervous. The grass isn't always as green as you think it is on the other side of the fence. Thankyou again mate....now my head hurts😂
Any algae problems with the clear tube
Use aquarium blue tubing to filter light so algae doesn't grow 👌
how often do u use the drip is it constant?
Lol there is no drip just an airpump and its used 24hrs 3watts it's like $1.20 per month and a half
What is the name of the barbed fitting. I cant find online.
here are 90 elbows wich will work better: www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-Active-Aqua-Elbow-Connector/dp/B008UFBBJ6/ref=sr_1_29?keywords=hydroponic+elbow&qid=1559226505&s=gateway&sr=8-29

if you have a local hydro store it is sometimes better to go in. then you can buy one or two if you dont want to buy in packs of 10 or more. my local store is pretty cheap for the parts
how do you put the nutrients on this things?
Mix your nutes in a separate bucket, lift your net pot out and fill your bucket.
are you using a water chiller?
Won’t the roots clog the small pipes?
No
At first i thought "dam where did he get the zip ties that can slide like that all the bs ones i get lock after you slide them" lol
Haha these ones were junk. Had a few that wouldn't lock
@@HermitsHome I think you fed the wrong way, just switch the way you feed zip tie.
Yeah pretty sure he had it backwards lol
We're do u by the. Pots. And. The. Net pot to for on to bit. Cheep I'm from Scotland
what is the brown balls on top??
They are called hydroton. Clay pebbles. Supports the plant, retains moisture. Keeps light from entering the system.
Should have used a 1\2 inch 90 degree elbow so the water level viewer is not crimped LOL
Paddle bit
money ?
Using clear tubing for water level indicator nearly killed my plants with Pythium & Rot. Just drill hole & use plug.!
Its called a paddle bit
Ya kinking the water level hose prob not a good idea would've put a 90
is the water level indicator necessary?
No it's not necessary. Makes it nice to know how much water is in the bucket without lifting the net lid up. It's also nice to have when draining buckets to change out nutrients. It can all be done without it though.
@@HermitsHome MAKES it easy for algae to grow
@@gregardon it makes it easy for algee to grow with or without the water level pipe?
It saves lifting the pot up
So basically a waste of time you don't need a hole in the bottom of a bucket to empty it it's got a big enough hole at the top
@@TheStein474 When the plant is big you might have to tie it down using scrog net or a cage. Of course growing a big plant takes time and effort.. Obviously something you you may find difficult since you are unwilling to drill a simple hole that both drain and indicate water level.. Don't be lazy..
It's called a paddle bit...
Hahaha we got the same drill and setup
That's a bubbler mate
Lmfao 😆😂😆😂
elbow
to loud in the end. 🤨
opps wrong growing channel
All good. thanks for checking out the video
Is that why you have a bud as your thumbnail? Lol
Pssst..hey, you can put your pot in there
Lmao
Just use a PVC elbow and a clear pipe for the water lvl...
Better flow and less space taken away.
Looks more like a bubble bucket not "dwc" still cool tho
U hadmyour zip ti the wrong way round
Sorry but clear line is not good for hydroponics it lets the light hit the nutrient water
Never use clear tubing bro....light in means algae. You really need to step up your game when it comes to dwc. You did not talk about the importance of water temps. Anything even approaching room temp will root rot you out in days. You cannot use tap water for dwc. Most cities use chloramine...which does not evap out ever!! Your water in dwc is your life and the starting quality has to be r/o for sure. No good info here.....
Sharma. I think most people and myself included found the video informative. I've done hydroponics for years and am well aware of the up's and downs. That being said you sound like a lil bitch. Go troll elsewhere.
Nathan..Some people are not aware of the ups and downs and this is important information that first time growers can use to avoid problems...as someone that has "grown for years" u should be aware of these issues and see them as a problem...which is not addressed in this video...go be a lil bitch somewhere else.
Its all bullshit i grow outstanding quality weed in dwc,,i do not use"airstones"my growing media is gravel outta my driveway ,,i do not own ph or ppm gear of any kind i dont chill or heat water room temp is fine if no light in bucket, itsa fukin weed not a rocket ,,rocket science not needed
dave strom I agree Dave. I tried the over priced RO water and I found more issues with my weed. There is a reason it’s a weed. It’s because a weed can be grown anywhere in any conditions. You can nuke a weed with weed killer. It will still come back. Most of these growers don’t even know how to spot root rot, or powedery mildew witch is even worse than a little chemical in my water. Sorry. I have grown for ages and only once used RO water. Just a gimmick.
You are correct in what you're saying except there's no problems with using tap water
I don't know what the heck you're talking about.
If using RO water you need to add calmag supplement.
Majority of times tap water does not need it.
If you have a high chlorine content where you live then let the water set out for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate, problem solved
that "water level indicator" is so ghetto. Don't do that people. there are simple 90 degree elbows designed for such use case. Plus, you NEED a blue hose tube. Not clear. Clear will grow algae. ignore everything this dude says
Why are all these types of videos of some awfully dressed middle aged white dude tht doesnt looks like this is what he'd be doing with his time lol no hate tho love the vids
It's a popular hobby for poorly dressed middle aged white dudes.
