Marissa I just love everytime you leave on travel day you give your mom a love. Brings memories to me I lost my mom a few years back and we always did same thing.
I wish my mom was still alive. She went in for open heart surgery several years ago and did fine but then developed complications and the last time I heard her voice was the night before. I’m glad she was happy and enjoying herself even as she was in the ICU. It’s great to see you and your mom together.
I got some small carabiners for our sewer hose doors, they are cheap and they work great. And, I installed a second sewer hose holder (thanks for the idea Chad), so I can carry 40' of hose. When flushing the black tank, I close the black valve too. I got a water flow meter ($15 to $20 on Amazon) so I know exactly how much water I have added. When I get to 15 gallons, I pull the black tank, let it flush. Then reset the meter, close the black tank and repeat the process. Having been fulltime for over 7 years now, we know that Sunday is black tank day. That is way more dependable than using the tank level meters. We have not used chemicals in our tanks for over 6 years. We do not smell anything in our RV.... we asked friends if they don't smell anything either. But then again, all of our friends are old, so their noses may not work very well.
I began a checklist several years ago because . . . pilots use them. Outside: antenna, jacks, water-sewer-electric connection. Just the beginning . . . you know the drill.
Hey! You are stuck in your “full time” or “we live here” mentality. Most aren’t. One we have on ours is TURN ON FRIDGE! Actually two days before is better. But you still have a LOT of great ideas, info. Keep it coming!
We also have a Grand Design. We've been traveling since January and have a pretty good routine down, but having a check list, and using it every time, is a good idea. Thank you. Hope to see you on the road some day.
We went full-time for 2 months now our checklist has always been mental-checklist. I noticed the more you have the more you need to worry about, thats why we truly have less junk it does help!
Our first trip in the 38ft 5th wheel was a real mess. Residential frig opened & everything was on the floor. Now this is our 4th 5th wheel. Not thrilled with the frig & it took several trips to come up with a good fix. But love our upgrade & wish we were full timers.
This was right on time guys. I was just talking to my wife today about needing some check lists for the RV as we plan on going full time in the fall. Now if you could do a set up checklist next week that would complete the circle. As always guys keep the good stuff coming and give the kids a hug for me.
Great video! Love doing the check lust. I think it’s a great idea! It’s a great thing to do. I think you did a great job on the check list. Things happen. But it gets fixed. Marissa I want to cry each time I see you hug your mom good bye because it makes me want to go hug my mom and my mom isn’t here any more to hug. I’m glad you had a great relationship with your mom. I had one with my mom too! It’s good to have a close family relationship. Love you guys and see you both soon!
I just thought of something for the cabinets, maybe something like bungee cords or kids' safety locks or a refrigerator lock for the cabinets. Just a thought. ❤
We have a Grand Design as well. The dealer said never use the black tank flush with the dump valve closed. He said the water will compress the air inside the tank because it has nowhere to escape. This will weaken seals and tank and this will cause leaks.
Our lock got broken on black tank tube on our first camping trip. 😂 so hubby replaced with carabiner. We have them on all of our hose tubes. They stay locked tight now.
When we got home with our new travel trailer in April we went inside and couldn’t open the bathroom door, all the drawers had opened and blocked it😮 Turned out they forgot to install the latches. They sent us some but it cost me a weekend of installing them! It is always something when in a rv😢
Thank you, Nate and Marissa. This is one of the most informative blogs that I can recall. Any credible reminder about “to do” lists beginning several days before departure. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. You both the best. Blessings to you all and safe travels.
ToDo Lists several days before departure are a great idea! We have a list we use for that as well, but for the sake of keeping the video time down, we didn't include it. Many things like wash & detail vehicles, large laundry, and propane could be done several days before. - Nathan
I have a 9-page list and it's laminated. Setup & breakdown for inside & outside. It has step by step how to hook-up electric, how to use the stabilizers and hooking-up & using the air pump to fill tires & airbags. If one of us got hurt/sick and you're upset, I feel this will help to not miss something important. I don't trust relying on my phone, use walkies for the same reason. Good video for everyone to see how important the 'list' is. Thanks
Ohh my casino queen rv park. How was that? I live 45 miles outside St Louis and get nervous parking in the casino to ride the metro link across to a Cardinals or Blues game let alone staying there overnight. And yeh 64 through there is worse than 10. 64 is a major earthquake.
Guys... 2 years full-timing now with a 5th wheel. I have around 130 items on my checklists. I cannot tell you how many times this list has saved a day, Thanks!
Maybe setup a camera in your 5th wheel to see what’s going on while you travel. It seems it takes a lot longer to setup 5th wheels, trailers than our Class A. It takes me literally 5 minutes to auto level, extend the slides, hook up water and electric - that’s all there is.
I thought sanitize was to sanitize your fresh water tank. Our black tank flush has no setting other than to turn the water on after connecting the hose.
You are correct. Sanitize on a nautili’s system is to use the water pump to bring in sanitizing solution into the rig to sanitize the freshwater tank and water lines. Has nothing to do with the black tank flush.
I was confused when Nate said that. I've been using the Nautilus system on two different trailers for over five years and quite familiar with how they work, and that's never been a thing. There are no valves used for flushing the black tank. Also, the timer thing on filling the black tank can be sketchy. I use an inline water meter since water flow can vary from site to site.
The only adventure I’m looking forward to is replacing the flooring in my 20’ travel trailer and dropping in a new cooktop. I may be able to do a re-enameling first. We never used the indoors cooktop so it should work. If it doesn’t then a new cooktop is in order. IDK how the enameling chipped off but the metal the thing is made of is rusted so it looks terrible. Also need to put down new flooring. The floor at the kitchen/bathroom is mushy. Never did any of this stuff. If people are able to build out whole buses to live in with no experience I should be able to make these repairs. Don’t know how else to get it done. So Nathan, that’s my checklist for the forseeable future!! I’m officially going to be a student at RUclips U. I wonder if they give diplomas?
I love the “it’s all part of the journey” moment in the truck 😂😂. Amanda now says that to me every time I am super irritated with travel day / leveling issues and I feel how Nathan felt lol.
Oh gosh perfect idea!!! I kind of chicken scratch lists down and my husband does NOT 😂! We’re going to the South Dakota Black Hills area for 2 weeks in SEP so yeah, ready, set, go!!! Last 2 wk trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone area of Wyoming, I don’t think our list was long enough 😂! Thanks for the great video!!!
Great job….though I was a bit tired listening to your list!! Wow. I tend to go for the broad strokes…but then again we aren’t full timing. So not sure if that means I really should start to be more detailed or not since we have gaps between trips. Time will tell. One suggestion…You really should pick up a LevelMate Pro. That way you can glance at the app and see how far out level you are before your start. Then you can decide if the ramps or blocks are needed before you start. Keep up the great content. We look forward to it each week.
All of the preparation to roll seems very complicated, but keeping a house/yard/vehicle prepared for everyday life is also complicated when you make the effort to put together a check list. It's about perspective and also desire I suppose. Like " what do you want to make work for you in life?"
Life always takes work, you are either mowing a lawn or hooking up a camper. The question for us is what are we getting out of our efforts. For us we get to travel and see cool things. 😀
For us, this size rig is the right size for us at this time. A few years ago, we knew we were ready to stretch our legs more, but also knew we were giving up the flexibility we got in our 30 ft airstream. RVs are very different from houses. Regardless of how much money you can put into one, there is still a sliding scale between adventure and comfort on any size. - Nathan
Marissa I just love everytime you leave on travel day you give your mom a love. Brings memories to me I lost my mom a few years back and we always did same thing.
I always miss my mom. That’s the hardest part of leaving Tennessee.
I wish my mom was still alive. She went in for open heart surgery several years ago and did fine but then developed complications and the last time I heard her voice was the night before. 😂😂😂😂😂

We expect everyone's list will be a little different. 😀
Once again I am reminded to get an RV that doesn't have slides. LOL
Pros and cons for sure. We loved the simplicity of No slides, but for living with four people the extra space is nice.
We also have a Grand Design. We've been traveling since January and have a pretty good routine down, but having a check list, and using it every time, is a good idea. Thank you. Hope to see you on the road some day.

Well more than anything you risk overflowing your black tank into the bathroom and all black tanks are vented through the roof.
@@LessJunkMoreJourney That’s so true on both things. I never even thought about the roof vent and now this makes me second guess my dealer. Hmm 🤔
Our lock got broken on black tank tube on our first camping trip. 😂 so hubby replaced with carabiner. We have them on all of our hose tubes. They stay locked tight now.
Perfect, whatever works.

it is uneven to park but it's all about the location.

Thanks for sharing, awesome.
The sewer hose fiasco could have been worse. Way to keep it real.
I use timers for everything. I get distracted easily. Hello Family
I like my smaller Class C, Remember the KISS principle !

Alot more to living in a RV than meets the eye, but all worth it making lots of memories and getting to visit and see great places. ❤️🇬🇧
A lot of work, but so worth it!

We stayed there last year and it was the most unlevel park we have ever been at.
Glad it was not just us. 😀
Thank you very much. Blessings
Marissa , how bout a long term review on the W/D ?🤔🤔🤔
We love it, it does smaller loads but with kids it really helps.
I love the “it’s all part of the journey” moment in the truck 😂😂. Amanda now says that to me every time I am super irritated with travel day / leveling issues and I feel how Nathan felt lol.
Yes "it's all part of the journey" helps to get perspective and lower the amount of frustration. 😀
Wow, such a process.

The most things go wrong when we have long gaps between travel or a distraction while packing up. We always recommend some sort of list.
I wonder how many sewer tubes and propane cover lids are on the side of highways. We lost our lid last week...
Probably many.
All of the preparation to roll seems very complicated, but keeping a house/yard/vehicle prepared for everyday life is also complicated when you make the effort to put together a check list. It's about perspective and also desire I suppose. Like

@@LessJunkMoreJourney Exactly! And I am glad you share because I enjoy yoyr videos!
Don't you just love them Illinois roads!
No! Lol!
Your videos are always informative. My question is, do you need a rig that big?
For us, this size rig is the right size for us at this time. A few years ago, we knew we were ready to stretch our legs more, but also knew we were giving up the flexibility we got in our 30 ft airstream. RVs are very different from houses. Love this video! Here’s my question: what is in that spray bottle on the basement door and how does it stay attached?
Yes, it’s dawn mixed dawn soap mixed with water. Nathan uses it for everything 😂
Where were you staying with the arch in the background. I live 30 miles south of the arch.
Awesome.
Good old I57 and I64 in Illinois will shake your camper to pieces.
Yup
How do you make Google Maps work vis-a-vis the height of the fifth wheel?
Google maps does not have that feature. 95% of the time we are on roads where we don't worry about that and pay attention to signs.
Marissa when are you going to design some sort of a Taco shirt?
Haha! I need to do that. We are Taco about it 😉
Dude…..never use your drinking water hose to flush your black tank. You should have a dedicated hose for that.
We do have a dedicated hose for that, it is an old hose and that is all we use it for.
@@LessJunkMoreJourney cool. In the video you said all you need to do is swap your hose from the freshwater input over to the black tank flush.
75 a night, no thanks
