    Well, I wasn’t you this week. I planned it, but I did a huge restock on my pantry and freezer. I have not done a huge grocery shopping since November. So, this week I made up for it. My local grocery store did have some good sales which beat my Aldi on something’s and I did stock up. But, I spent $300 - I know I need a spanking. I tried to tell myself that it averages out to $25 for a week for three months but I planned that in my budget and spent 302.27 exactly, $300 was my budget. So 2.27 over. I’m okay with that. But, it’s still a lot for a single girl! Also, I paid my last car payment this week! Yes!!! 🙌🏻🫶🏻💗

    • @LauraLegge
      @LauraLegge  7 месяцев назад +3

      Wow! That’s incredible!! $300 is not bad at all for a full restock! And congratulations on your last car payment! 💃 🎉 🥳

      Congratulations on the last car payment! That is like getting a huge raise. May I suggest you bank that money like you have been making that payment.
      We are debt free and have not had a car payment for over 20 years.
      It feels so darned good.
      $100 a month for groceries = you got this down, girl!

    • @veggielovinaccountant
      @veggielovinaccountant 7 месяцев назад

      @@bakingnanaskitchen4799 I still have a couple debts to pay off first, then that is the plan. I’m literally taking that payment and snowballing what I have left. (I’m a cancer survivor so I have some medical debt I’m working on.) but that is why I said my last car payment. My car is Blue, and I call her Sassy Sapphire 🤣 and she should run for many years still. She only has 67K miles on her. Last car I kept until nearly 297K miles. But, it feels like a huge relief just getting to this point!

    We lucked out yesterday. Our local grocery had 5 lbs. of potatoes for .99! Got four of them. Will cut them up, blanche them for 5 min in really hot boiling water, strain them, put them in ice water for a few min, dry them off and flash freeze on a tray in the freezer. Takes a little time here and there, but worth it.

    Virtually all of your fresh vegetable and fruit scraps will add great benefits to your garden. You can chop them up small and bury them in small quantities in a few holes around your garden beds. Just dig a hole a few inches deep, bury about 1 cup of fruit/veg scraps and cover with soil. You can put a rock on top for a couple of weeks to give it time to start decomposing. That should keep the dog from digging it up. You can also put a little piece of chicken wire on top of the scraps and then bury that with soil. Will add vitamins and minerals to your soil over time.

    • @LauraLegge
      @LauraLegge  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! I grow some of my own fruit and vegetables so I’ll definitely give that a try!

    • @cltinturkey
      @cltinturkey 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@LauraLegge Great! You may want to bury them a bit deeper if you're concerned about animals digging them up, but composting your scraps is well worth it. You can also make a compost bin for about $20. Get a black plastic trash can with a top. Drill about 25 holes all around the sides and maybe five holes on the bottom. Put four bricks down to make a place to settle the bin and then air can circulate . Grab a few handfuls of compost or your good soil (which has bacterial life and maybe a few earthworms) and put it in the bin. That will start the process with healthy garden microbes. Layer brown and green components, like crushed leaves and vegetable scraps in layers. Add some water until it's spongy. You can keep layering and add shredded paper, coffee grounds, eggshells, and any natural kitchen scraps other than animal products (no eggs, meat, butter, cheese, chicken, pork, etc). Put a bungee cord across the top of the bin, pull it off the bricks and roll it around the yard a few times. Do this every week or so and you'll start to see decomposition. Check to make sure the materials stay moist, put it back on the bricks, and leave in a sunny spot so nature can "cook" it down. After a while you'll make your own black gold for the garden!

    Your Aldi has a much better selection than ours does! I recently ran out of Jasmine rice but had a lot of regular rice to use up and I’d never compared the two before but Jasmine is so much better. I’d rather sacrifice something else than get regular rice again! I don’t like the organic peanut butter there because it’s hard and has to be stirred.
