Anyone else feel completely nostalgic when the first keys to this song come on ? The raw emotions felt when watching Buffy as a kid are something that I’ll always carry with me. Thank you Joss Whedon
Someone mentioned that this song is sampled in Ed Sheeran's Afire Love and at first i was like "naw" then at the 2 minute mark tHERe aRE SUDDENLY SO MANY EMOTIONS!!!
*Buffy saves Giles* Giles: "Why did you come here?! This wasn't your fight!" *Buffy punches him in the face* Buffy: "Are you trying to get yourself killed?" *Buffy cries and hugs Giles* Buffy: "You can't leave me. I can't do this alone." This scene was one of my favorites, but damn it broke my heart. Very good episode. I love Giles and Buffy's father/daughter relationship. p_p
They ruined after season 4 and it was terrible in season 7. I don’t really know about the comics but until season 3, I loved their father/daughter relationship
Their relationship was EVERYTHING!! His warm fatherly affection towards her just made my heart melt. It's so beautiful it hurts. Giles was the glue imo.
What hurts more is after Jenny, Giles never fell in love again. He never let anyone in and he never loved anyone after her. She was his first and only love and losing her broke his heart
Out of everything, Jenny's Death made me cry the most. It doesn't even remotely help that she was the girlfriend of my favorite character. She and Giles were perfect for each other. In my own way, I sort of saw Giles as an older British version of myself. When he was beating Angelus, I felt like I was the one beating him and I really felt sorry for him knowing the person he was in love with was gone.
I think everyone kinda felt that way after seeing Giles charge after Angel. It felt good watching him get a few good shots, but man I never felt so sad for a character like this in a while. Giles was so good, he didn't deserve to lose Jenny like that.
My favourite Buffy composition! When Anthony Stewart Head starts humming my heart breaks :'( thank you so much for uploading all of these!! Much appreciated x
You know, I’m glad this song is so short. If it were longer, then our hearts would break from the beauty and emotion. Thanks for looking out for us, Christophe Beck.
Same bro. It was really sad. I never realized how much I cared about her until she was gone. I just finished the second season and strangely I don’t want to watch the third season immediately. I guess it’s because some part of me in my subconscious wants to savor and enjoy this show.
Remembering Jenny along with Close Your Eyes and Sacrifice always guarantees floods of tears if you ever need a real good true cry. Not just for the association with what happened in the TV show but personal life memories and helps one to let out past and present pain and anguish but is also there to just reminisce with and enjoy the masterpiece that it is. My other favourite score is The Final Fight such an emotional yet empowering piece of music that always communicates to me that I can bad ass my way through anything. The Final Fight both in its original length and Long Version have always been and will be brilliant.
Angelus leaving Jenny's body in Giles's bed for him to find and even rose petals on the stairs still freaks me out even now. The Kalderash gypsy clan were as much to blame for Angelus killing Jenny as Angelus himself was because they didn't seem to care how many innocent people Angel might kill if he became Angelus again in the present day as long as they were getting revenge on him for his killing of the gypsy girl centuries ago.
You could say the same for Willow and Buffy when they recursed him again. And as it turned out, he's now responsible for the deaths of quite a few slayers as Twilight
@@adamclifton29 206, to be exact. Also Giles himself gets summarily executed the same way Jenny herself was, with a snapped neck. Right before Buffy's eyes.
Agreed. Buffy ended when the hellmouth collapsed, for better or worse. Do I wish there was more? Yes. But the comics read to me like glorified fanfic and - like the Farscape ones - don't feel like the show universe at all to me.
@Sanjay Salar but as a kid due to his Great Aunties blaming themselves (plus Edna and her son/his pops) for their part in robbing young Rupert of his childhood when indoctrinated into the Council
A lot of Buffy episodes had silly drama, but at the same time it wasn't silly at all. All of the silly drama that happened in every episode, someone out there could relate to what was going on. I know I could relate to a lot of Buffy's struggles and her heart aches. She got me through a lot of my problems. It was comforting in its own way, knowing that someone else in the world had been where I was/had.
I'm sorry...sorry I couldn't kill him for you...for her...when I had the chance. I wasn't ready but, I think I finally am. I can't hold on to the past anymore. Angel is gone. Nothing's ever going to bring him back.
You are right, it was beautifully done, the cast, music, action as well as direction. Season two is the one that stands out for me, Jennys death and Buffy killing a Angel that got his soul back and Buffys reaction to that..... very sad
Holy Cow, listen from 30 seconds onward. I have listened to this song many times before. However, I used nice headphones this time. At 30 seconds a voice starts humming with the melody. Listen closely, and it really sounds like Giles. Chills ensue.
I had no idea that Anthony humming until right now - and I hadn't even read this message before! I've listened to this song MANY times and never recognized his voice, and then I read your message after thinking it was him....whoa!
This is so beautiful! Thank you Ed Sheeran for sampling this in one of your songs and causing me to discover a haunting instrumental piece! You have wonderful taste! :)
The best thing about that Ed Sheeran song is that it’s about him losing his grandfather who suffered from Alzheimer’s, so it even fits the theme of the original piece ❤
this music is really beautiful, i love the vocalising at the begining it gives it just that little bit more. the music really reflects the emotions they were all going through at that time.
Last week, I went to the theatre to see a Buffy themed one man show, called ‘Buffy Revamped.’ It was done from the perspective of Spike. It was brilliant. Loads of the themed music was included to give it a real sense of authenticity. The actor skilfully went through every single season in 75 minutes! It was my birthday gift from my daughter who is a bigger Buffy fan than me! I did my dissertation (as a mature student) on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a metaphor for the human condition. I still love the show to death - pun intended. Angel was great but Buffy will always have my heart.
One of the saddest moemnts from one of the Best Buffy The Vampire Slayer episodes. I just can't get enough of this show! Just seeing Angel's evil snare as Buffy and Willow grieve over Jenny is bone chilling! More people need to experience Buffy!
My poor OTP. *sobsobsob* He really never was the same after she died. It was almost like part of him died with her. The other day, I read that Giles dies in the comics; I like to think that they found each other somehow.
Given some of the nonsense that happens in those comics (I've tired, but I just can't count them) it's entirely possible that they both end up resurrected!
We didn't get enough of angelus, we needed a full season of it. At least 20 episodes showing his true dark evil nature, the torture the torment. They should of introduced a few characters the previous season and have them as regulars and have angelus kill them. At least 5.
Jenny Calendar was the first significant death of the inner circle. I remember gasping when it happened, and the sadness it brought upon Giles, Buffy and Willow. David B played the dual role of Angel/Angelus well because it was hard to balance the anger/sympathy for the character.
Viva Buffy!1!!!!
It may have seemed like silly problems, but that was probably the mystical aspect of the show at play. Everything else that happened were realistic problems: Not only did the characters deal with them in realistic ways, but it was realistic outcomes and repercussions throughout the rest of their lives.
Ronderp Ok, being an oldie I don't know what afire love is, I only know this original from Buffy. If you like this track I'd highly recommend the Buffy OST album as well as 'Live fast die never' soundtrack from Angel. There's some amazing music in those.
To be honest I don't like that Sheeran sampled part of this music for a song of his. Then again I'm biased, Christophe Beck is amazing. I lost a very close relative recently and I've been playing this piece of music a lot.
Christophe Beck created this music after Jenny Calendar was murdered by Angelus. The piano notes in the music symbolise the grief and shock that Giles and the Scooby gang, not to mention Buffy fans, would have felt at the suddenness and brutality of Jenny's death. This music was perfect to begin with.
I guess I can see why it bothers you he used this as part of Afire Love, but then again he's using it as a way to deal with the death of a relative of his, like you are doing. Different ways, definitely. But same purpose.
Anyone else feel completely nostalgic when the first keys to this song come on ? The raw emotions felt when watching Buffy as a kid are something that I’ll always carry with me. Thank you Joss Whedon
