    Andrew, thank you for the very informative video. I appreciate how you compared walking versus high intense workouts. It reminded me of the story of the tortoise versus the hare. In the end, the tortoise wins. He may be slow but he was steady.

      Slow and steady is almost always the way to go with weight loss. Going too fast usually results in the weight being gained back, and then the person is right back where they started. Thanks for your comment!

    Your videos need way more views. I walked for a while last year and lost 64 lbs but when I lost my walking buddy I started to miss days which turned into weeks. Like most in the new year, I made a commitment to do better, so I started walking again on my treadmill. Instead of relying on a buddy I'm walking on the treadmill and watching a 50 minute episode of something on Netflix every day while doing so. I only gained about 20lbs in the time I fell off, so thankful for that. I still need to lose about 170lbs.. I'm pretty big at 370 on my new years weigh in.. last year was 414 so I consider that a win.

    walking is a great exercise and very doable. For osteoporosis are weights not recommended?

    • @trainforever1142

      Hi Sharon! Weight training can be highly effective for the both the prevention and management of osteoporosis. Someone with a diagnosis of osteoporosis would be best off working with a qualified exercise professional to help them come up with a safe and effective training plan. I made a video on this subject. Here it is if you'd like to check it out: ruclips.net/video/cvnmfBvS2rI/видео.html

      Some form of resistance training is paramount. Farm more important than the walking.

    You're wrong and you're giving misleading info to support your point.

      What, in your view, is the correct answer?

    • @oldnatty61
      @oldnatty61 9 месяцев назад

      @@trainforever1142 First, the goal should not be to "lose weight", but rather lose fat while maintaining or even gaining muscle. Muscle is what drives metabolism 24/7/365. While walking can create a caloric deficit and potentially "weight loss" it's not intense enough to stimulate muscle maintenance or gain. Consequently the trainee will stay about the same or become skinny fat w/ a lower metabolism then when they started. Walking is a good choice for recovery days, but it is not the best weight loss exercise. Some other things you said which are in correct. "High intensity exercise is hard on the joints". There are many low and non-impact high intensity options. "Burnout". Only if one is over training. "Cost $". A very productive program can be done at home w/out spending a dime. "Have to go to a class". See previous answer. "In the absence of a targeted nutrition plan"? Any properly designed program will have a targeted nutrition plan. W/out a targeted nutrition plan walking won't work either? Below see one example of a proper fat burning low impact workout done at home for free.

      @@trainforever1142 The answer starts w/ educating the client and tweaking the goal. The goal should not be weight loss. It should be recomping. Holding onto and building muscle while signalling the body that it should use fat as fuel. The reduced calorie walking approach doesn't do this. It does the opposite. It signals the body to reduce muscle which lowers resting metabolism, and leads to little or no fat loss. Basically it makes someone skinny fat. Now, beyond the cosmetic outcome you yourself have done vids on the importance of maintaining and building muscle as we age. So, the answer starts w/ a properly designed high intensity strength/endurance session that clearly signals the body that muscle is needed for survival and fat should be prioritized as fuel. This can be done w/ low and non-impact exercise. Also, it shouldn't burn you out done properly. You do your intensity workout. Throw the adaptation switch. The you do your walking (low intensity aerobics) until recovered. Rinse and repeat.

    What constitutes a walking plan to lose weight w/o plateauing?

    • @trainforever1142
      @trainforever1142  3 года назад +1

      There's no particular amount of walking that will prevent plateauing in a weight loss plan. What is often happening with a weight loss plateau is that as we lose weight, the body shrinks, so the basal metabolic rate (amount of energy burned at rest) also goes down. So to offset this, activity needs to be increased or energy further restricted. We must be careful to ensure that we are always adequately nourishing ourselves during any kind of caloric deficit, and also bear in mind that if the body is really struggling to maintain or get below a certain weight, that weight might not be healthy or ideal for that particular person.

      Like any other exercise program you just apply the principle of progression. I'd be glad to help you put together something for free.

    Walking is easy, you can do it every single day, for more than 1 hour per day some days like weekends / vacations, and it's pretty pleasurable when you live in a nice area
