So Layton is my signature and based on my understanding of the online space regarding niche perfumery, it appears to be towards the top of all beginners lists which effectively takes away from the reason why most people wear niche to begin with - to stand out or to be different. To me the other two popular niche fragrances that have all-year potential are Hacivat and Aventus, but those aren't really anything like Layton. A scent that doesn't get a lot of attention, but I feel like could belong into this class is Torino from Xerjoff. It is still relatively new and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere online, not a single video.
Man, I enjoyed all videos in this series. I don't agree all of your choices but love the way you aproach the topic not even mentioning your humble, honest and genuine story telling. And these videos provoked an idea in my mind, thinking if we make ourselves love some fragrances just because they're overhyped? I really like to know your opinion on that, may be you also make a video on this.

There is nothing wrong with these fragrances and if you like them then wear them but maybe someone doesn't own one of these more popular fragrances and would rather own an alternative, this series is perfect for that.

I have been wearing the new Dior Sauvage Elixir all week and MAN!... what a stunning scent! As hyped as it is right now all over RUclips it is absolutely the real deal for sure and by far my favorite!
I have the EDT and it's left gathering dust due to being so overplayed. Elixir sounds great from what I've heard but I'm afraid with the way it's being hyped, everyone will smell like it in a year or two much like the EDT.

Many in the community also forget that most people do not wear fragrance on a regular basis. I encounter 100's and 1000's of people in my sales profession, I am one of the only people who wears fragrance daily and I have smelled something like Dior Sauvage EDT on someone else like once lol
These are good choices with some of the most popular fragrances out there. I agree with you, the overhype doesn't mean they're bad fragrances, it just means that other good ones are overshadowed. Offering alternatives that don't really share the same scent profile is an excellent idea. I'm glad reviewers like you, Ross, Michella, and Equality Fragrances put us onto selections that are unsung heroes. I wouldn't think of comparing Layton to DesirToxic. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

First heard about Chris Collins though the channel and had to pick up Oud Gallore and African Rooibois. Both garner compliments for the Wife and I. Of course as a lady she gets so many compliments even though we are wearing the same scent at the same party. Sad story hahaha

Interesting alternative for Layton, you know 12 years ago Micallef was very strong here in Dubai but for the past few years I never see them, i even thought they went out of business. I loved the earlier bottle designs more. They had one called Gaiac that smelled amazing and I still regret that I never got one. I did get a limited edition formulation from them called Njaiman (not sure of the spelling) it is actually one the best animalistic sweet perfumes I ever smelled (used it on my wedding day). Azzaro wanted was just ok but recently I got a wanted by night, didn't get to use it though. What about underrated perfumes Justin? I can name a few that no one seems to be talking about.

found a replacement for coach platinum (have both frags) - wife bought me paco rabanne phantom = basically smells extremely similar to coach platinum but better performance and sillage
Just a bit of a heads up you’ll definitely get compliments but very bored of it after a days wear every week for a month. I do not want to smell it again. Everybody else does though.
Oud Wood is absolutely over hyped. I tried a sample and thought there was something wrong with it, like it went bad. Ordered a 2nd sample from somewhere else and smelled the same. Smells like powdered laundry soap to me. I don't get the appeal.
if someone is getting offended by the word or phrase "overhyped" then they have bigger problems they need to address. I want to sample several scents from M. Micaliff fragrances...great concept. Look forward to the next one.
I've actually got Memo African Leather. I think I got it on sale at Max Aroma for well less than $200 and I love it in the Fall and Winter. Great fragrances all around! 🙂👍🏼
Hey J.C., what do you think about Boss Bottled Intense EDP as an alternative to Layton? I find this specific BB Intense EDP is a great alternative and gives a Layton vibe with the apple and vanilla.
In my opinion, I own both original BB and Bb intense EDP but...I want to wear original BB more, because to my nose BB intense EDP is too woody and a bit dry in compare to the original BB dna with synthetic apple note and vibe. So that "a little bit too woody and dry" vibe is not a good alternative to Layton in my opinion, because Layton is smooth apple and vanilla.
Tom Ford oud wood is over hyped. That why I avoided it for so long. However, once I finally tried the fragrances. I became not only a fan, but a groupie I haven't came across an oud fragrances That is more enjoyable. Any suggestions:)
I love the smell of dry sweet tobacco, but my skin doesn't usually work with it. Wanted BN? Sour, terrible. The one EDP? Same! Herod? Slightly better, but still bad. Then I tried l'homme Ideal Extreme: oh yes, it works, and it's perfect! My favourite from the line for sure!

I love the smell of dry sweet tobacco, but my skin doesn't usually work with it. Wanted BN? Sour, terrible. The one EDP? Same! Herod? Slightly better, but still bad.
Then I tried l'homme Ideal Extreme: oh yes, it works, and it's perfect! My favourite from the line for sure!

What would you say about replacing Tom Fords Oud Wood with Atkinsons His Majesty the Oud? I recently smelled it and I think it smells so beautiful and it is also very calming. It kind if reminds me about Replicas By the Fireplace. 🤔
