    I've tried this trick, and a little tip for anyone is once you've done the first spray move the rubber mat slightly left or right and up or down slightly and it makes the carbon directional and looks way more realistic. Plus if you as coats of gloss it blends in much better 👍

    hit it lightly from a slight angle with a dark grey or black, then from the opposite angle with a spritz of white or light grey.
    this will add shading to the squares, giving them a better appearance of depth.
    as this project was sprayed, I would spray a light coating of dark grey downward to add shading to the bottom of the squares, and upwards with white or light grey to add highlight to the top of the squares.
    (the matt has some thickness to it, which blocks/masks those areas a little)
    (before you do the metalizer layer)

Just cause someone wanted their car to look the way they want an sound the way they want an are out of funds for the proper upgrades, they're a ricer? tf? Pretty ignorant to me. Im about the performance not looks BUT i think the word ricer is kinda stupid. all men love cars. respect one another

    I would use masking tape to hold the drawer liner in place.
    BTW. You can do this with regular spray paint as well, but then it won't peel off when you are tired of it. If you do, then you would need masking tape around the edges to protect against overspray. With Plasti-dip, I think you could just cut and peel off any excess.

  • @redhotcustoms

    For plastic and metals, this is a good method. For leather, i'd go for something more durable. They make spray on leather dyr for people looking to refinish/recolor leather and faux leather seats. Can easily be sprayed through a small paint gun or airbrush.

      Big difference between the two. Clear is just plasti dip with no tint in it and leaves a kinda matte effect. Gloss does the opposite as it, well leaves a gloss finish.

    • @dtester
      @dtester 9 лет назад +7

      slidog24 ya, but I think he was comparing it to regular automotive painting where "clearcoat" is the transparent glossy coating over the colored car paint. So glossifier is sort of the plasti dip version of clearcoat.

    Once spray paint is fully dry, it won't have an odor to it. It is usually the solvents that you are smelling. Once those have fully evaporated, leaving just the 100% dry paint, there shouldn't be an issue.

    • @nd2_ian
      @nd2_ian 5 лет назад

      @@KHeidendal carbon fiber comes in many orientations. It has something called a "warp direction" which is the direction the carbon fiber lays. So carbon fiber going up and down can either have a 0° or 90° warp direction. And carbon fiber that is diagonal can have a +45° or -45° warp direction.

    You actually prep the leather with sandpaper and such to clean, as well as make an abrasive adhesion for the dye. Follow the directions that comes with your kit to get best results. It isn't like painting where a few more layers helps, too thick and it feels like plastic.

    Shift the mat down and to the right just slightly before the dusting of silver and it will give you that 3d look of weave. A light coat of black candy or over reduced black basecoat before clear and it will rock!

    If you do a few clear coats over the vinyl it lasts forever. I've had the same sun glasses for over a year that withstand abuse, sitting up on the dash in the sun and freezing cold winters all because of a clear coat over the vinyl.

    To help stop peeling use wet grey scotch,you should do this with any paint spraying it's basic preperation

    I did this to the spoiler of my car and it looks really good. I have a 2003 Gran Prix and it was pretty difficult but it was totally worth it. I could have gone heavier on the glossifier though.

    I love ideas like this. I would however suggest the rubber mat be folded taunt around the back of the iPad (or whatever you are coating), and then TAPE IT DOWN on the other side to insure the mat WILL NOT MOVE AT ALL in between coats to keep the pattern sharp and crisp looking. Good job Fonzi! Groove responsibly.

    You can use the mesh tape you use to repair dry wall or fiberglass. Just use thin coats so it dries fast and peel it off.

    Back in the 1950's, they would use the same technique on motorcycle gas tanks.
    They would create a lace pattern by using a head scarf of lace. Like the ones's ladies would wear on their heads in church.Or a fishnet fabric to give a snakeskin look.
    Would like to see you make a video using this.

    I think it would of been even better if you sprayed the metalizer at an angle to only hit the tips/half of the "squares" . Give it more depth. Like lay the iPad flat and spray at a 45

    I would remove the hood that would make the process easier. If you need that cloth thing just ask a shop/store that sells that kind of stuff. If they dont have it they could most likley make one for you.
