I'm pretty sure the number of people who actually played this in 2P mode over the internet are countable with my two hands. Just this whole ordeal of getting the adapter, getting, the game, signing up to the network, and finally finding a second person who all did the same THAT YOU KNOW reminds me of the days in school were people brought their 4-player link cables for the GameBoy. Never in my life have I seen it used fully.
Actually, you couldn't play this over the internet with the Mega modem. At the point of the video where I said "only limited titles" and show the two game covers, they are the only two with online play.
Wait, so the game was redundant even back when it was new? Wow, that's just sad.

I’ve seen some people use the 4-player adaptor fully but I’ve never seen it in person, the main reason was for game with 4-player modes and I think some GameCube+GBA games that used that link cable. I’ve never seen people genuinely use it just for fun, I’ve just seen people do it years after to show it off.
It amazes me that RUclips Gaming has artwork for this game!

@@themanwiththebabyhands4650 Then again Modern Sonic just pretty much Classic Sonic but evolved. Funny enough one of the concept arts for modern Sonic pretty much looks like Classic Sonic but with longer quills.

I found something interesting!
When your character in this game is dizzy, the blocks doesn't move randomly by its own. Instead, it mimics what your opponent does.
There are a total of 40 Rounds in Round mode btw. And if you're intrested, a few speedrunners took the time to route it out. Funny thing about it. The first stage you enter in round mode is psuedo random, after that, in progression, every stage has the same consistent solution.
I think there are about 30 or 40 stages in Round mode.
Imagine a remake of this game that improves upon... *_everything._*

I do remember from another review of this game(I think it was deleted idk) the game does have a plot. I think it went like:
Sonic gets sucked into a cursed book by Robotnik and basically uses gems(the matching pieces) to fight a clone of himself in that book to escape.
I can’t remember it entirely but I think that was the premise.
Fun Fact: The Online Multiplayer on the Sega Mega Modem is still usable in 2021 since the multiplayer only requires you to use a Friend's Landline number who also owns a Mega Modem to play online over dial-up! The connection is Peer-to-Peer and this was way before online lobbies and random matchmaking existed!
It works on Cartridge Mega Modem games like the Japanese version of Cyberball and Tel Tel Stadium!
The only thing you would have to pay for is the minutes you spent on your Phone Bill lol!

Interesting that sonic crackers ended up using the same sonic pallet as the one in this game.

The question mark blocks, I figured out, are from when your opponent gets a chain not big enough for a cinema special.
Also, this is a mix between Sonic, Tetris(the tetris blocks) and Columns.
Number 3, I figured out you control both your piece AND you opponent's piece when the opponent's stunned!

Puyo is pronounced like "Poyo" or similar to saying "poo yo" as heard in the title screen for Puyo Puyo Tetris on both the english and japanese release

I didn't know about the Mega Modem hardware part, and I learnt lots of other parts whilst watching this video.
Was nice to see some translated text implemented into English. Making 2 of the same blocks disappear makes it slightly easier compared to Puyo Puyo Tetris I guess. It's good to see the variety added into the 1p and 2p option, and where it revealed its true concept, making it different from the other Tetris based games. Basically, block mode is marathon but harder. Round looks like the most enjoyable for those who like mission based challenges (if any of what I said makes sense). Such a shame this game was poorly presented in many ways. Oh well.
You explained every small detail really well for me to understand what this puzzle game is all about with similarities and differences.
the usage of gems collection music is fitting, as that compilation was originally meant to include this game
How did you manage to make a 13 minute review of this game? This game has so little to it. But I still applaud you for this exact reason and appreciate the fact you took time to make this.
