Oh man! You're the lifesaver I was looking for :'D I've ordered that screen online but I didn't find a place for this replacement, I'm gonna do it myself and edit this comment with the update once I get the spare part and do it
Update: It has been about a month since I posted this comment. I got that delivery like 15 days after the comment, but I was kinda busy so I didn't have the time to replace the screen, specially because I also wanted to customize the outer case paint since it had a lot of scratches. however, almost everyday I watched this video trying to foresee problems I might have. After christmas I finally got a hole, so I dissasembled everything, took the outer case for painting (I polished it first with sandpaper), painted it using spray cans and glitter, and once it dryed I assembled it all together again.
I had a few issues I didn't foresee while assembling the console:
1 - I had lost track of what screws where in what places, they all have different length. I had to play your video in 0,25x while assembling to pick the right screws. My recommendation is to use tape to group screws and tag them so you won't have this problem
2 - while connecting the screen straps, they were not connected deep enough at first, so it wasn't giving image but I noticed it was turning on, so my first thought was that the spare part was defective and I'd have to ask for warrant. Anyways, I dissasembled the console again and checked, I didn't notice the problem but still I disconnected the strap and pulled it deeper in, it was really hard but I managed somehow and then it worked smoothly
3 - The stick was getting stuck. I noticed you have to pull it deeper after trying to see the problem for about an hour
I think that's it, I had to assemble and dissasemble the console a lot of times in order to put everything correctly. My advise to those who want to get into this journey is to have time, take a deep breath and do it slowly and following step by step carefully, don't lose track of any piece and keep them all together in a safe place like a plate, and if you don't succeed at first attempt, don't lose it, take a breath and try again. As I said before, I had to do it a lot of times to the point I forgot how many times I did it
for those willing to see my custom painted 3DS + new top screen: imgur.com/a/C1XM8hF
That's all, thanks again and sorry for this long comment haha

Just remember to be patient during this repair, do a couple of steps and take a break as this can be tedious for the first time. Pay close attention to the cable clamps, do not open them too far. Also pay close attention to the cables going through the hinge. With that said, you should be fine.

My 3ds had been dead for years, today thanks to this tutorial I was able to revive it :D
It should be noted that unlike the DS Lite, the flexes of the 3DS are more resistant and well protected. I was a little abrupt and feared that the console would not be able to turn on.

I know this is old but there is an easier way to remove the hinge. On the bottom part of the shell, you can remove the plastic LED indicator for Spotpass/Streetpass. It's not glued on. After you remove it, grab a dented pair of tweezers and push toward the hinge and it should pry out.

I do these as well and no matter how many times you do them, they are always the worst repair. I want to find a workaround for the flex cables having to go through the tiny metal hinge hole. Even if I could solder wires or something like that, I would. Another thing is making a screen tester on a breadboard with like an arduino or raspberry pi controller. Another project would be to fix ribbon cables. I have so many screens that would work fine but have a micro tear in the flex cable. If you have a tear in any of the 3 cables the machine will power up you see the blue light and then you hear a pop sound and it shuts off. 7 out of 10 times its a tiny tear in the flex cables. Sorry for the ramble, nice repair job here, thanks for the upload.

Btw thanks for this guide. This was the better one and followed it through until I couldn't take out the led cable. It was GLUED onto the panel. It didn't come out like in your video. I ended up ripping it out and the tab stuck to the panel. I took out the tab with a small flat screwdriver and yep it has glue/adhesive that's why it didn't come out easily. Now I have to replace the speaker ribbon cable and solder the old speakers to a new cable...

@@fukyu2 Yeah like he said the reason it's not working is that you snapped the ribbon cable of the LCD. If you just replace it with a new working screen it should be like new. So make sure the 3DS you buy for parts has a good screen. First of all that it turns on, and secondly that it looks good (no screen tearing or flashing colours for instance. These things are also caused by damaged ribbon cables so they are impossible to fix. They can only be replaced).

The other 3ds xl has a broken 1st screen but perfectly fine in the 2nd screen. How can I put the 1st 3ds xl screen to the 2nd 3ds xl screen without changing lcd? Best thing to do is remove both motherboards from the devices, then remove the bad bottom screen and replace with good bottom screen, then install the motherboard of your choice. This is the simplest way. I have some 3ds xl videos that can help you.
