  • I Bought 12 BROKEN Nintendo 3DS's - Can I Fix Them? I bought 9 3DS handhelds and 3 3DS XLs on eBay for $425. They were sold as a parts or repair lot but the listing said some of them were untested. Once I started testing them I did find a few that were already working correctly... and a bunch that needed repaired. To get these fixed I fixed sticky buttons, replaced a lower screen, removed parental controls, replaced an R button, fixed a camera lens, replaced a top screen protector, reconnected a ribbon cable to fix an on/off issue, and replaced a wifi module. After subtracting selling and shipping costs I'm expecting to make about $21 each when I sell these repaired 3DS's.

    About This Video: I'm fixing 12 3DS handhelds (3 XLs and 9 regular). There were a number of them that were already working correctly but for the rest I did a lot of replacing (R button, camera lens, top screen protector, lower screen, wifi module) and also fixed some sticky buttons, removed parental controls, and fixed one with the on/off problem. The numbers are looking good though and I'm hoping to make a decent profit.

      You could make this a "challange" series start of with $1000 and see if you can turn a profit then give the profit to charity or keep it... I dont care but the one rule is you have to "cost" everything including tools and parts from that starting seed money and profit

      The 35 year old Commodore 64 I restored starting back in October was worse than any of these. It actually made my hands itch to touch it. I was cringing heavily. But after I took the motherboard and keyboard out and gave the case a bath it looks brand new almost no yellowing at all. Then I had to take the keyboard apart and clean each key individually wash the motherboard with IPA. Now everything looks practically new. Many of these old computers have the ground traces all wavy. Not mine. That board looks brand new except for the areas I swapped out the ram chips and capacitors. And it works really good too. I have a 16GB flash drive hooked up to it via a special part with tons of games on it.

    When I had a 3DS when I was younger, the hinge on the right broke off (started cracking as I used the console a lot, crack got worse and eventually the whole hinge came off). I wanted to take it to a repair specialist, but my dad thought he could fix it himself. Something came off, so how does he get it back on? Using superglue. He superglued the hinge back to the main body, and then superglued around the hinge "for good measure". He ended up superglueing the whole lid shut. He realised his mistake and tried to open up the 3DS again, which he did. By ripping off the whole top screen.
    I still remember the sadness as he handed me back my two 3DS halves. Maybe I should have kept hold of it and sent it to you lol

    I think the one with the top cover that was made of glass and broke may be actually one of the very first models that was made, maybe Nintendo began making glass top covers, and realized how difficult it would be to remove them in order to repair the top screen, so they changed the cover to plastic instead

    DS top screens are the pits to work on. I pick up quite a few NDS originals dirt cheap and replace the housings/fix the hinges quite regularly and they’re such bloody tricky things. That specific twist in the ribbon cable that feeds through the hinge is the bane of my existence!

    Careful with “untested” lots. I know a guy that sells these and when he gets returns he saves them until he gets enough to sell as a bundle and just mark as “untested” when in fact they are faulty, just barely though like a small spot on the screen that is dead as far as touch function does not work. Specific spots. But I’m sure you could fix those anyways

    • @LeSarthois
      @LeSarthois 4 года назад +1

      Well I'm sure TronicFix shower those indeed, or on other systems or items, but yeah, a dead touch screen or even a dead/damaged screen on a DS/3DS is basically Level 101 fixing ;)
      A dead cart port tho, that's a more tricky thing, though not for TronicFix but for most people without the proper tools... Like me. 8 bits stuff? 16 bits stuff? Can do. SMD soldering? can't do that yet.

    eBay's and PayPal's combined fees alone are probably around that $8.45, not to mention around $4 shipping, although I do know it's possible to get them down a bit lower... Also gotta keep in mind the fact that 100% of the time, eBay favors buyers in disputes/returns, which will probably add at least few bucks, on average, to each unit sold.
