  • I found I needed to remove the ABS unit in order to fit the TurboSmart hypergate in. Once done, we have room to install the 6Boost Manifold and GT3076 turbo. With a little struggle I am able to figure out the routing for the water lines. Unfortunately, it will have to be finished next week.

    I'm running a abs prado rear axle in my kzn185 with abs and it works sweet has good braking but if you wanted gary Weaver has a non abs 95 prado wrecking rear axles gone but you could grab the front lines and spliter to tidy up your swap to a more factory look

    • @4X4MonthlyNZ
      @4X4MonthlyNZ  Год назад

      Oh wicked! There wasn't any hassles in the swap?
      Might hunt him down, it seems hard work to find a Tee to split those lines and make em tidy. Maybe replacing the entire thing is going to have to be the go.

    Good work Jono looks like you’ve done your homework and I don’t see why you can’t run a massive 370hp with that $10k box of goodie’s which is 3x stock power and will be plenty of fun.
    Can’t wait for next episode

      I'm unsure if this is sarcasm or not. But that's the goal! haha

    • @kingmarz3635
      @kingmarz3635 Год назад

      No sarcasm
      370hp is a massive amount of power especially when everyone else in their modded Safari’s only have 200-250hp

    • @4X4MonthlyNZ

      @@kingmarz3635 It is and honestly, won't be there for sometime. To get that I would really need to be putting in commetic head gasket and ARP studs. Both of which are on back order. While doing that i might as well go for rods and pistons and rebuild the engine. Then it could happily handle the 350hp. Realistically 250hp would be great. Hear that is a great amount to have fun and keep it simple. Plus with that carrying the load would be a little easier. She struggles a little with weeks worth of gear loaded in.
      Simply put though, I just want to beat Shannon's hp which I think is 240. So i'm happy with anything over that haha

    Exciting stuff bro, quite a unique build. What clutch and gearbox are you going to use?

    • @4X4MonthlyNZ
      @4X4MonthlyNZ  Год назад

      That was the aim, so far only know of 1 other Turbo 3RZ and well ... he blew the rod outta the side of that haha
      Clutch and gearbox are staying stock. If problems arise it will be in the clutch and then a swap the 5VZ one will sort that out. Gearbox should handle up to 350hp without issue. The problem will be the locked front diff. So ill need to learn to be easy on the throttle haha

    I've just finished putting a GT3071 on my 3rz surf in NZ only the other week. Not sure if my coolant soultion is the right one or not but went to a hydraulic hose shop and got a 11/16 brass tee fitting. They cut the one side of the tee off and threaded in a 5/8 fitting.
    Still running the stock ecu which isn't ideal but providing a challenge to run right. $3k+ for a cpu, harness and tuning isn't quite in the budget at the moment

    • @4X4MonthlyNZ

      Oh man Wicked! 4WD or 2WD? and how are you finding it on the stock ecu? I was tossing up going that route and in the end thought 'na screw it, i wanna thrash it' haha Find me on FaceBook. keen to see pics ae

    Instead of welding the front diff why not use an auto lokka? Obviously welding is cheaper but not really better

    • @samhewitson2264
      @samhewitson2264 Год назад +1

      I wouldn't even auto lokka a front diff you have no sterring when it locks air or e locker only

    • @FlatBrokeAdventures
      @FlatBrokeAdventures Год назад

      @@samhewitson2264 thats the beauty with an auto locker when turning on hard surface like rock slab, concrete or even sealed road it has the ability to unlock. I have a mate with one in his 69 Ford Mustang. They're not like a welded diff or spool.

    • @4X4MonthlyNZ
      @4X4MonthlyNZ  Год назад +1

      I'm not welding the diff. I said diff but meant sump 🤣
      I've already installed an auto locker in the front diff. The video is on my channel. But I've loved the added traction from the front locker. Hasn't given me any issues until I thrashed a step-up hill climb and snapped the intermediate shaft in the diff. That's the repair I mentioned about the front diff. Otherwise, money for value. Highly rate a front auto locker. Especially with the factory LSD rear.

    Playing with modifying your brakes. Last time I looked it's actually illegal to remove abs from a vehicle, could be wrong. But, as an aside, your current brake booster is designed to work with abs. ABS vehicles use a bigger booster than non abs vehicles. You will find that you now have brakes that will lock up easily because of this. Changing the rear brakes will need a cert, as part of that process they might fail you on the other mods you've done to the brakes. Any brake modification needs to be certified.
    That's a big ass turbo, be interesting to see how it runs.

    • @4X4MonthlyNZ
      @4X4MonthlyNZ  Год назад +2

      That's why I will be going for Cert. The turbo will need cert, the tyres need cert so why not change the brakes. They probably need to be done to get past cert with the power increase.
      If i find issues with the brakes I can simply change the entire system to that of a Prado, booster and all and find a place to re-mount the ABS unit.
      Its going to be a little trial and error so fingers crossed it works, but thanks for the heads up.

    • @shorty9055
      @shorty9055 Год назад

      Yep, with all those mods it will need certing. Never been through the process, but have been told it can be rather trying. Best of luck. Looking forward to the rest of your build and seeing it off road.

      @@4X4MonthlyNZ My understanding with LVV by reading through some of the code is that vehicles that came with an ABS from factory must retain it. I hope your talked with a certified technician to double check.

      @@theskells934 welp, guess its going back in then haha its such a pain in the ass offroad though. Might give the certifier a call and see what he thinks. Thanks for the tip off!
