3RZ Swapped 4Runner FINALLY RUNS! Transmission Installed, New Carpet Kit, Interior Finished!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 июл 2022
- The 1st Gen 4Runner IS ALIVE!! The rebuilt transmission is installed, we install a new carpet kit from ACC and lastly we finish up the interior. Afterwards we take it for a test drive and the power is unbelievable compared to the old tired 22RE. This is my project truck, a 1987 Toyota 4Runner with a 2.7L 3RZ engine. (tacoma swap) It's paired with a w56 5-speed transmission and in my opinion, is the perfect engine swap for these old Toyota 4Runner and Pickup 4x4 trucks. Also, I introduce my new overland project at the end. Enjoy!

3rz are so under rated in my opinion such good bulletproof engines and way more peppy than people expect
Love this motor!
Has become my favorite swap! Wouldn’t swap anything else anything In this little trucks, night and day difference compared to 22r platform, I slapped a turbo on my 2rz…phew…it’s a beast!
Love the swap. Curious however, why the 3RZ over a 1UZ, TDI etc.?
Upgraded to a land cruiser, this is going to be sweet.
I’m stoked!
I recently finished swapping a 2tr-fe (the 3rzs younger brother with variable valve timing) it was the best thing I have ever done to that truck.
Awesome!!
Great job! As soon as it cools down I am pulling my W56 and rebuilding it as well. Your videos should help!
Thanks Mike!!
this is what I want to do with my 87 , absolutely amazing.
It’s such an upgrade. Do it!
that was amazing....so glad everything worked for you.....
Thanks!!!
Can’t wait for the new project! 😏
With ALL the storage for your 100000 items
My 3.0 runs bad assss after I personally rebuilt it myself. Your swap is awesome and looks clean.
Honestly, the one 3.0 I've owned ran great. I was just joking around.
3.0 runs great till it doesn't
Timing and leaky heads
And terrible fuel economy
@Brandon Robishaw The 22RE also gets horrible mileage. My 2WD shortbed truck can’t even come close to getting the mileage of my V6 Accord despite the Accord having more than double the power.
All Toyota’s are thirsty.
@@dandorris8531 This is true
That 1st gen 4Runner is badass but that land cruiser 😮💨😮💨😮💨
Stoked on it!
It's ALLIIIIVE!!! good job doing the restoration, I have the same 4runner, without the vent windows, because it has power windows. where did you get the carpet replacement? please advise.... Thanks!
The carpet was from ACC which I believe is also on Rock Auto.
@@RM_Garage Thanks M8!!
My 86 pickup has the same squeaky clutch pedal noise lol
👍 gracias
Just a comment on your load area carpet - did you choose to lay the leading edge under your rear seats rather than run it up the back side of the rear seats for any reason? It's supposed to attach to the back of rear seat rests and thus it covers that section quite nicely. It's why that part of the carpet is divided in two - one for each of the split folding seats...
It also means that when you fold the rear seats down, you have a nice continuous single run of carpet.
I probably just put it in wrong. That’s how it was with the last carpet so we just put it in the same way. We were actually looking at the back of the seats thinking it might go there.
I try not to edit out my mistakes on this channel because I want it to be real, and it also helps us learn as we build these projects. Thanks for the tip!
Nice work, getting ready to replace the carpet on both my runners. What carpet kit is that?
Thanks! It’s from ACC.
No 4x4 tho?? Doing Sas or some crazy oil pan work?
“The swap to do” well shiz now I’m gonna have to document my whole 1uz swap and show you the swap to do.
Kudos man I’m glad the trans worked out! You plan on doing anything in the future with it? Long travel?
Nice. I used to have an SC400 with the 1UZ. We can't do that in California, since the motor was never offered in a truck. It would fail smog.
I sold the 4runner (at the end). New project is at the end too. I think his plans with it are SAS.
@@RM_Garage yeah I saw that after I wrote the comment. I live in California as well. But I got my truck registered in montana so I can do anything I want with it. 🤫
@@ColonCrusher Been thinking about that! If I ever have another project *car*, I'll probably register it in Montana too.
@@RM_Garage it was a pretty straightforward process, you register a business llc with montana state and then the reg your car to the llc you own. Honestly just never having to pay for registration ever again is worth it. Out the door for 800 bucks. Anyway love the vids hope you get bigger!
@RM Garage You might want to look into things as far as using a car engine in a truck. California does not allow truck engines to be swapped into cars because truck engines are generally higher emitting. But swapping a car engine into a truck would mean swapping in a lower emitting engine. I’ve actually never heard that you cannot use a car engine in a truck, so you might want to look into this. On the other hand, if you go 1UZ, you will be forced to go automatic since the 1UZ was never available with a manual transmission.
If I do my 1989 4 runner with a 22 r e and upgrade it to a 3rz will it pass smog in California
Not unless you do absolutely everything correctly. All emissions equipment that is on the 3RZ vehicle has to perfectly be replicated on your 4runner and then you have to take it to a state referee to BAR it. California is RIDICULOUS with smog laws.
How fast do you get it on the highway
Hi, I'am thinking to swap that engine to my toyota pickup 1980 whit 5 speed transmisión, but a i have a dude if my transmisión could be compatible whit 3rz, what I have to do to fit.I would really appreciate your help
I have a 1987 with a tired 22re @312k miles. Will this engine 3rz , mat up to the stock 87 automatic trans ?
No idea on the auto. I’d check forums
Just so you know...
The rear carpet is attached to the rear seat backs, not under them... 👍
We found that out after, lol!
Is the W59 fairly similar to the W56?
Similar, not exact
Where did you get that front bumper? Is it 3 or 2 inch tube?
Old smittybilt. 3”
@@RM_Garage thanks. Last question. Was it made specifically for the first gen 4runner? Or you modified it?
@@xurritoalejandro8109 They made them back in the day for the pickups and 4runners. You have to find them used now.
Does the new owner have RUclips Chanel would be cool to follow the runners build
He doesn’t, sorry!
Any idea where I can get tube bumper like that ?
You’re going to have to build it or find one used. This was an old school smittybilt
Thanks, I have the rear one, Ill keep an eye out for the front one
@@RM_Garage do you know if a "pick up " Smitty built would fit on on a first gen 4runner ?
@@tokeie7915 probably, the front clip is damn near identical!
😮😮😮
Thats a turbo 22RE supposed to make the big 135hp haha.
I noticed that after I edited the video haha. The big power!
@@RM_Garage great content! Keep it up!
You sold the runner
