A Kamparian succeeded in Singapore, well done! What a story of struggle to success! Well Done Olivia, keep going...Remember God is in control and put you in each situation, may you continue to be strong in Him
I wouldn't know at all about this Successful Malaysian Lady if I was not in the process of looking for a job, for a Quality Head. She looked so humble which has been the key to success of many entrepreneurs Proud to know that a Malaysian being very successful. Yes, there is not much opportunity for non-Malays here in Malaysia, for those really capable in many fields. I hope will end up in some good companies where i can start the next level in my career life. Bravo MDM Olivia.
Not only Olivia made Malaysians proud she also made Singapore proud as Singapore gave the present opportunity and Malaysia gave her the strength and determination....this came about because of the stupid UMNO policy of discriminating its own citizens....like people said the one that laugh the last laugh the loudest......Bravo Olivia you deserved your fame and fortune....
Actually UMNO Malay believed oppressed advancement of minority and discriminate against them in Malaysia in all walk of life will propel Malay forward and lift them out of poverty due to some politically motivated belief that Non Malay Malaysian is the main cause of Malay failure to control large percentage of Malaysia's economy since independence.
Inspiring, Courageous and Determination: The world does not owe us a living nor we owe the world. Do not sit quietly expecting for free hands out (no difference to beggar). Simply we owe ourselves a living is to be hardworking.

Malaysia actually have a lot of talents but unfortunately these ppl left Malaysia to go other countries. Singapore is one of the few countries who benefit most of it, but if she still in Malaysia today, she might not be who she is today. So she make a right decision and she deserves what she have today.
There are many Malaysians working in Singapore or immigrated here, and as a Singapore, I'll be the first to admit that most of them are much more hardworking - and had to overcome much more - than the average Singaporean, and we have a lot to be thankful for that. While I appreciate that Singapore gains a lot from Malaysia's lost, Singapore cannot exist alone in Southeast Asia. The region's growth is also our growth. Only the terribly myopic and small sees this as a zero sum game.

Yes, a Malaysian accent and yes Hospital Kampar was featured. No matter where she was born, or lives now, she has still risen in live, and it is a good motivation for all of us in the world. I'm Malaysian and I hope that this story will inspire all, MALAYSIANS or Singaporean or other nationals.
As for the national education system encompassing multi-stream schools, I have just a thought. Chinese Indonesians were able to converse in such perfect Bahasa Indonesia that an overwhelming majority of them had completely forgotten their Mother Tongues. Not only that, they were also pressured into giving up their Chinese names and much of their cultural heritage. In short, they had to pretty much give up their own identity. But well, do we need any reminder as to what exactly happened to them in the immediate aftermath of the 97' Asian Financial crisis? True unity can only be achieved by winning the hearts and minds of the people and not forced assimilation. If you are truly sincere in working towards genuine unity, perhaps ask yourself first if you are ready to accept all Malaysian citizens, regardless of their race, Mother Tongue or religion, as your fellow compatriots. Even the Tibetans and Uighurs in China are given the freedom to place the necessary importance to learning their own Mother Tongues in the "totalitarian" state's education system. Did students enrolled in Chinese stream schools not know the language - Bahasa Malaysia? Then, how did they fare in the UPSR, the nationwide local Primary school leaving exam? Speaking of an education system that purportedly promotes fairness, does the quota system in local Universities truly and proportionately reflect the diversity of the different ethnic groups within the Malaysian population? Remember, think of the country as a whole if you wish to become truly advanced in the future. Different people have their own unique strengths and we should indeed treasure them. A wise leadership would know how to leverage on each individual strength to the maximum extent of its potential for the overall benefit of the nation. It is wiser to work harder and spend the effort in formulating effective ways to grow the nation together as a people (in diversity) instead of embroiling in the taxing affair of devising all the schemes to try carve it up by magnifying the differences among the different ethnic and religious groups. As Aristotle would have put it: "The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal." What's counterproductive for the nation will ultimately prove disastrous for EVERY SINGLE Group in the country, regardless the ethnicity or religion. A truly respectable democracy is judged by how it treats its minorities. Democracy is not a system to be abused for certain political bargains that reflect only extreme shortsightedness. I am just but an ordinary concerned civilian. May Allah and/or God/s bless Malaysia and Long Live One Malaysia. Even One is not just A number but made up of infinite possibilities: 1 = 1/3 + 2/3 = 0.3333.... + 0.6666.... (sum of 2 infinite numbers) = 0.9 + 0.1 = 10 X 0.1 = 10 X (1/30 + 2/30) =...

I really inspired seeing Malaysian Chinese give too many contribution to my country . Just look , I mean the MALAY itself is about 2.5 population than the Chinese itself in Malaysia. I know that the government itself is a failure too since 2014 , najib started it . Manage to make the best of her talent in Singapore where racial n religion discrimination is practically non existence from government , truly glad for her make the right move. If she would to decide stay put inside Malaysia < her homeland> to build her business empire , since as a non Bumiputra female and a non Muslim; she might not be able to gain employment , let alone can expand her business over the years ; due to many road blocks place ahead by government 4 a non Bumiputra/non Muslim entrepreneurs and her lack of political connection where business success often tie to who you know and what political party you support; decision to take it to Singapore couple with willingness to work hard may well enable her to reach full potential and become successful later.

Sadly Olivia Lum and Hyflux is in Liquidation as at 11 April 2019. Hylux business model of Build Operate and Transfer was a DISASTER with leveraging debt. Problem (1) Chinese owned businesses in Singapore or Malaysia are family businesses and are tightly controlled. Ms Lum failed to appoint a CEO who could drive her business in a managed risked manner. Hyflux was Chinese dominated and there was NO Independent Board of Directors to oversee the business. A major problem with Chinese Businesses in reality. Ms Lim had too much on her plate and did not have the skilled experts to back her up. Yet she was an appointed parliamentarian. Where is a focus or was it all about the POWER The company has over Singapore dollars 3 Billion in debt and the banks are closing in and bond holders offered 6% are wiped out. I wrote a comment )see below) ONE year ago that Ms Lums membrane technology and desalination plant required extensive capital, enormous fossil fuels tp power them and was not sustainable in the long run as Singapore was subsidising water and there was excessive wastage. Ms Lum did not invest enough in R&D but pursues old tech and wished to expand Hylux within Singapore. However, expanding to the Middle East proved difficult with poor old tech, high capital costs and poor paymasters. The crushing blow was cancelled contracts, which Hyflux guaranteed and the low price of oil and gas that powered these membrane facilities was uneconomical. Hylux wished to become an electricity supplier in Singapore as a integrated water and power supplier. Singapore's water security plans have been dealt a blow. The vultures are circulating and may this be a lesson on how corporate governance in Singapore is run with family founders unwilling to let go and bring the right people. girls can do it too as long as u believe in urself. believe ur ideas. believe that u can achieve like any other or even better than the guys. the reason why not many top ppl are girlz i reckon is due to lack of self-confidence and the normality of looking up to men as the capable one.

shame to hyflux - hyflux fired staffs if they don't buy company products like ELO Water and skincare products etc. Global companies will not do that. This is th difference between Singapore companies and global companies. Hyflux can't sell products to the market then forces staffs to buy. Shame to Singapore.
Sure, the lady studied in a segregated Chinese school that had a better ethos to learning and hard work in Kapar and left for more Chinese preferred opportunities than in racially divided MY. Normally, it is difficult for MY Citizens to access SG Schools and this is a mystery. A Junior College place is difficult but then, she was lucky to excel in Maths, English, and Sciences. Next, she went to NUS. Entrepreneurship is a Chinese Way BUT to develop a validation of her Ideas in Water Purification takes more than just brains or an MBA or Tech Innovator or Computer Coder. Its called Risk Capital. Waste Water Industry is Capital Intensive with regard to Waste Infrastructure and Filtration / Reverse Osmosis and UV light impregnation. Where did this Risk Capital Comes FROM? Crowd funding from old classmates can be limiting in terms of financial quantum. R & D is expensive. This Lady then exists to China. Again to a Chinese Race Country. China is 'shark infested' and there she found success. Membrane Tech and subsequent water treatment was expensive - even today. Developing NEW WATER is very expensive and NOT commercially viable even at today's costs. China has a shortermish attitude to profits. So, I am NOT sure that turning waste and human effluents is cost effective to make new water drinkable. Singapore can pay HIGH Prices for water as part of SG's water security. This simplistic tech is NOT High Tech as a innovative technology. Only Singapore can subsidise water costs to its SG Citizens as a strategic case. SG should be more concerned with conservation, wastage and savings. There are no mechanisms for teaching this in SG and in companies. SG citizens are abusive to water wastage. Perhaps, humidity to water is innovative but commercially can be considered when the cost / benefit analysis is done . I would presume this will be costly. A FAIR Documentary but Hylux was not promoting the many aspects of conservation and sustainability. Her Company has limited growth outside SG or the Middle East where these countries are willing to subsidised new water which is then WASTED by its consumers. Wasting Water in SG is not acceptable. A tip to Hylux.... consider desalination Plants offshore (100 meters from land) with its Membrane Tech and using a small nuclear plant as an energy source. A small nuclear plant can be developed in China but SG is pro US and will not get the go ahead??
Whoever that commented on what country gives better opportunities, I guess you never knew that as long as the infrastructure and some form of political stability exist, the rest is up to the individual entrepreneur spirit to fulfill the rest. I see some commenting on how the west or what not is superior, my answer is I don't think you even know well enough about the opportunities that present itself in Asia now, we that live in the more developed areas of Asia see more opportunities and easier government policies in doing business then those that only have a narrow vision of their so called knowledge of these parts of the world. At this globalize era, there is basically much less restrictions then our forefathers can ever imagine. So I guess you guys better do some studying before coming out with many racist bias views that you learn through bias medias or news.
all i can say is someone should move/berhijrah. from mainland china to msia/hong kong. from msia to spore. from spore to msia. from penang/ipoh/jb/sabah/sarawak to kl. from kl move to kemaman or else many people move/hijrah from kampung to town/city n succeed. hundred years ago millions people from europe including immigrants move to new world name america evan many prophet himself move from born place to new place
Not true. Is not the moving that brings success. We didn't have to move if we can live , grow and expand at our homeland. We move because our grow are limited by our old environment.

shame to hyflux - hyflux fired staffs if they don't buy company products like ELO Water and skincare products etc.
Kampar. Kapar is in Selangor.
Now can make new video titled Malaysian Chinese Failure Story. Lol
this is inspiring!

Although she speak with the village accent , but she is excellence!!

She is losT but not WW Solution!!! A lot of people because of her become bankruptcy!!!
all i can say is someone should move/berhijrah. from mainland china to msia/hong kong. from msia to spore. from spore to msia. from penang/ipoh/jb/sabah/sarawak to kl. from kl move to kemaman or else
many people move/hijrah from kampung to town/city n succeed. hundred years ago millions people from europe including immigrants move to new world name america
evan many prophet himself move from born place to new place
Not true. Is not the moving that brings success. We didn't have to move if we can live , grow and expand at our homeland. We move because our grow are limited by our old environment.
