    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jufrie_M...
    Mohamed Jufrie bin Mahmood is a politician from Singapore. He was a prominent opposition political figure in the country in the 1980s and 1990s, when he stood in elections as a candidate for both the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) and the Workers' Party.[1]
    [edit]Political career
    At the 1984 general election, Jufrie stood as a candidate for the Workers' Party in the constituency of Kampong Kembangan. He was defeated by Yatiman Yusof of the governing People's Action Party (PAP) by 8,210 votes (44.3%) to 10,326 (55.7%).
    At the 1988 general election, Jufrie stood as a candidate for the SDP in the Aljunied Group Representation Constituency. Jufrie and fellow SDP members Ashleigh Seow and Neo Choon Aik were defeated by the PAP's team by 26,375 votes (43.7%) to 34,020 (56.3%).
    At the 1991 general election, Jufrie stood as a candidate for the Workers' Party in the Eunos Group Representation Constituency. Jufrie came to national prominence during this election campaign after Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong accused him of being a Malay chauvinist because of comments he Jufrie made about the role of Malay community in Singapore and his use of the phrase "Insha'Allah" ("God willing") in a campaign speech. Goh urged people not to vote for Jufrie in order to help protect inter-racial harmony in Singapore. Jufrie strongly denied that he was a Malay chauvinist and said that he was merely raising important issues which he felt needed to be addressed. In the end, Jufrie and his fellow Workers' Party members Lee Siew Choh, Neo Choon Aik and Wee Han Kim were narrowly defeated by the PAP's team in Eunos by 41,673 votes (47.6%) to 45,833 (52.4%).
    At the 1997 general election, Jufrie stood as a candidate for the SDP in the Jalan Besar Group Representation Constituency. He and his fellow SDP members David Chew, Gandhi Ambalam and Low Yong Nguan were defeated by the PAP's team by 21,537 votes (32.4%) to 44,840 (67.6%).
    Jufrie was among a group of SDP members charged with participating in an unlawful political assembly on the driveway leading to Parliament House in 2008. He was fined after being found guilty of this offence.[2]

In 1967, the housing program took malay land without any compensation, the housing project also introduced quotas, which in every apartment 70% needs to be chinese, in 1967 also, the singaporean government began implementing policies that makes poor malays migrate to malaysia. And, there are proofs that funds are not given to the malays adequately, and, history education in singapore is beyond demeaning to the righteous aboriginal " malays " originators of singapore, which came from the word singa and pura, lion city, and inadequate funding of malay schools. Just because malaysia have constitutional aboriginal rights doesnt mean that our leaders bully other races. Just because some chinese and indian in malaysia say it it doesn't mean its true.

      @@adamharrold407 there are 75% ethnic Chinese in Singapore, so the 70% quota makes sense, and you didn't mention that they also made it compulsory for indians and malays live evenly together with the chinese to prevent racial clumping. Furthermore, Malaysia has a law enforcing the higher positions of any big businesses to be occupied by a minimum number of malays(bumiputera), this is a working position quota and not a residential quota, mind you. Lastly, do Singaporean chinese have discounts on buying houses/property(INCLUDING luxurious units) like the 7% Malaysian malays(bumiputera) enjoy, REGARDLESS of their financial standing?

      Leonard Teo No to worshiping LKY. Saluting LKY, bowing to him and giving him a state funeral with the highest honor may be considered worshiping or glorifying the dead. To me, it desecrates our national flag by draping it over the coffin of a former dictator. We don't want to have the same mentality like North Korea where its people gave all the credit and honor to one man. A one man show. We don't want to only give all the respect to only one person. Lky may be tough but he can be an asshole at times. You don't pretend to be good under the guise of being tough, determined and hardworking. Anybody can be tough determined and hardworking in being a dictator. No LKY did not spoil Singaporeans or even pamper them. He fiercely opposed that. He made life in Singapore quite repressive and restrictive especially in the 70's and 80's and you still say he spoil them? I can only guess with your mentality lie this what you may do if you are prime minister. More R and R under the guise of discipline. Discipline is one thing but how you apply it matters. If you apply it too strictly, it can get too restrictive and suffocating. People may rebel and it will backfire your objectives. Both party losers. People are born free not to be subordinated to anyone or anything. LKY is not merely a respectable man. He is a controversial figure in Singapore. God knows how he got into power and remain in it with a very tight grip. Lky does not listen and respect others other than PAP, PAP supporters and himself so why should we non-PAP supporters or even the neutrals accord him with the utmost respect?

      That was in the 60s and 70s when I was in school ..The malays were the original settlers here. So the govt then decided that they have to recognise that. They were given special assistance..as one malay person told me...they have free education right up to university and thats their right. I dont agree. In the 60s because of this, poor families paid $2 school fees or free. The rest of us had to pay first $4 and then $7 bUT the malays were authomatically given the right to subsidised school fees. I feel that is the reason why many of them are still backward ..My father used to say that iSTANA KG GLAM was the original family home of the former king and his descendants till just a few years ago. They had to move out and the govt took over the istana and the grounds. My father used to say the descendants could stay there and only pay $1 every month in rent. Just a token.

      Tan Siying I'm not Malay, I'm Chinese. Even without subtitles or reading his lips I totally understand him. All I hear is LKY with his lofty elitist tone, constantly belittling his experience and his opinion. He barely even let the guy finish! Hear him out, let him finish, then argue with him. And today, to support the minority ethnicities, we have the GRC system. Lines constantly redrawn every election. Tin Pei Ling riding on the coattails of Goh Chok Tong. Great job.

      Can't you tell that Mr LKY was getting annoyed that the guy has no good solutions and whatever he tries to mention, Mr Lee already thought of it long ago and knows it wouldn't work out. Mr LKY hates wasting time. If that guy has something brilliant to say, just like what opposition Low Thia Kiang said, Mr Lee would listen attentively and take it in. Too bad this guy was just not at the same level and frequency as Mr Lee, he's wasting time.

    • @koreaisone6498
      @koreaisone6498 9 лет назад +8

      ***** I don't know what's your fucking problem. Bringing in an unrelated topic like sexuality. I wasn't even talking about gay rights or anything about sexuality in this post. Gosh, what were you thinking? What has this got to do with what Lee Kwan Yew is talking about or what I commented about their speech? Don't bring in something that you don't like and pick a fight about it. That's childish and irrational.

    • @koreaisone6498
      @koreaisone6498 9 лет назад +4

      ***** Seriously, how old are you? Honestly, you chat crap and I don't know where you based your statements on. Why do I say the word "Chinkapore"? It is because you represent some ugly Singaporeans with such an arrogant attitude and I dub them as Chinkaporeans. Old fashioned Cheena. I want it to remain Singapore not Chinkapore. Why are you so anti-Western? if you are so, don't live in Singapore because Singaporeans don't represent your kind of mentality. We are not traditional and backward. We are a modern cosmopolitan society and the so called people destroying SG, it is actually your kind of people that suggest of destroying modern Singapore. Stay out if you don't like the Singapore of today .You say that liberals are corrupting or destroying Singapore. Well, at least Singapore is pragmatic to accept new ideas and not being stuck to old narrow minded ideas.

    mr lee has seen it all and done it all since during the troubled yrs of the 1950s even during his time in england. He said he wasnt treated well there because he was chinese. THat made him all the more determind to fight. When he was ru nning for POLITICS, he was fearless and full of ferocity. He walks the talk. No one then or now can be his equal or even close. he knows what he is talking about...
