Can You Handle a Vindaloo Curry, Too Hot?

- Is a vindaloo curry too hot or can you go extremely hot? I tried the Indian Lounge in Grays Inn Rd London by St Pancras station, Kings Cross. A lamb vindaloo with tender pieces of meat and a sauce just right to make your tongue tingle. A curry I would recommend and the downstairs indoor garden is exceptional. To start it was chilli chicken and some papadoms.
A great Indian lunch - to coin a phrase by @DarrenJohn Off the Charts!

I find a good Vindaloo is actually sour and tangy rather than super chilli hot - it can get confusing if they DO add some chilli, though.
Can't beat Indian food. I had some great Vindaloos in Goa back in November. They're weren't 'burn your mouth hot and make you prance around looking for your raita' hot. They were 'hot', definitely, don't get me wrong, but a slow, lingering heat, and it is genuinly enjoyable. The thrill of the heat sensation opening those endorfines is such a heart racing experience and such an adrenaline rush. Those Vindaloos that do nothing but burn your mouth use dried red chilli powder which burns your mouth, and that is not a good feeling and definitely not traditional Indian style!
The thing about the beer from the American bar owner/tv personality, is purely about speed of serve and increasing profitability in busy busy bars and then your own preference when it comes to drinking lager/beer that’s carbonated!
Love how you pulled out the poppodoms to finish off the starter plate... Wasted nothing, love it mate x
As an Indian, that Bangladesh food looks brilliant
Vindaloos are lovely, perfect heat level for a regular day
That vindaloo looked just right to me a madras or vindaloo is my curries of choice
👌🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
The buildings are really nice around King’s Cross.
Your a good man to eat a hot curry that table beside the fish pond would be the one for me
NO, you're not crazy. I know exactly what you mean about wanting more. I used to eat this once a week for 30 yrs and miss it so much. Enjoy 😊😋
You found another OTC Indian cafe! Looked great!
Had a vindaloo once, ended up sat in me string vest such was my sweating, needed a shower when I got home.... other stuff happened later too but this is a family channel! 🤣 I'm a baby with heat
Loved it Darren, I can't do the vindaloo, too hot! Yeah thought they were a tad short on proportions!! Keep well buddy. Dr Paul
Thanks for watching!
That looked off the charts Darren
Nice one Darren. Another great find. Food looked great!
Most restaurants portions have become smaller due to costs from suppliers, increase in utilities, etc, etc.
7:14 Christmas jumpers are for life, not just for Christmas. 🎅
😂
I live in France now and love it...but I do miss a good curry.
I discovered an Indian restaurant 1/2 hour away and went. I asked for a vindaloo as they, not the French, eat it.
They were worried it would be too hot but cooked it for me.
Then they stood around watching me eat it ! 😂
Great vid as always!!...The food looked proper boomin great!...Good to see you again Boyzee!!
Thanks for Sharing Darren John it looked delicious .
My pleasure
Loved the music in the video well done
💚as long as you enjoyed it.
Nice one DJ. looked really nice.
Ohhhhhh what a beautiful Resturant....looked lovely .
It really is!
That looks lush,I could eat that now.smashing video really enjoyed it 👍.
That looked great. Ive just booked for the weekend. Great vid DJ.
Hope you enjoy it!
Nice one darren 👍👍👍
🥵. Not me. 😂 😂😂❤
St Pancras station is a fantastic looking building, I can remember it in the late 70's before the refurb. We used a pub called the Euston Tavern close by and a KFC in the same area and if I remember right was open 24/7, a novelty for the 70's.
The prices at the Indian Lounge are very good for London, the food itself looked excellent as well as the restaurant décor.
great video darren
Glad you enjoyed it
The sniff gives it away! 😂
😂
Hope you’re well darren great to see a curry vlog mate my favourite food on the planet
So good Carl
That all looked delicious...great presentation too. fantastic prices for London too ....excellent!!
So good!
Restaurant looked good, food looked good, and the video looked great. Thanks Darren
Thank you
Another top end vlog big man , that curry and all the bits looked so so good.
Great video as always love a Ruby 🤤
Brilliant filming and music. As a rugby playing student in the North we had a tradition. First match for the first XV we had to play the game, run a mile after the match...sink four pints and eat a vindaloo...all in 40 minutes. I hate beer, cannot stand very hot food but WTF. Darren is like my dad. He could tell me every bus I needed to get from A to B in London and we lived in Yorkshire. Going to London with him was always good news as we would hit amazing restaurants, pubs, museums. We had our differences but who doesn’t?
Appreciate your comment Mike 👊🏼👌🏼🙏🏼👍🏼
that looks lodget bruv would luv that right now
Looked nothing outside but incredible inside. Good looking vindaloo and starter as you say definitely off the charts. Thanks for yet another brilliant vlog. Colin
That looked good . Off the charts.!!
Oh yes Karen OTC
The decor kinda reminds me of somewhere around 1987, but I like it!
Just found your chennel, what a hidden gem. Food looked really good, need some heat with my indian food.
Awesome! Thank you and welcome Mats
Amazing looking food good review
I love a good vindaloo curry, Great to see you doing currys again 👍
Yes I definitely could. Love spice. Trouble is now I'm 60 odd it doesn't like me or my stomach. It's so annoying. !!!!!😫 smashing vid, stay well and happy 😊😉
Beautiful music
Nice!
Yet another outstanding post Darren really liked the downstairs of restaurant a true jem
Looking forward to next post 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Great stuff, Darren. Food looked good, and very reasonable prices, especially for 'Laandan'!
Went out to our local Indian ourselves tonight, too. Was great as always. 😋👌
Another great curry vlog DJ. Kings Cross has proper redeveloped with the street food markets in the back. Looks well nicer now compared to years ago.
Lovely looking food Darren. Used to love a vindaloo but unfortunately can't manage it now, great video
What a magnificent building at the beginning of this vlog. Your food looked extremely rich, glad you enjoyed it.
👍🏼🙏🏼
Excellent content and great looking food, good value for money
St Pancras is a wondeful building that some of us northern folk arrive into London when coming by train. The curry looked fine but probably too hot for us! 🙂
Awesome looks good, do a Phaal for the boys next time.
Very nice xx
Amazing place, amazing food thanks for the vlog
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks dj brilliant
Big up
Lovely stuff👍🏽
When I get off the train at Euston it’s usually into the Euston Tap for a couple of liveners and then round the corner into Roti King for some top notch yums.
I’ll take a stroll down to Kings Cross and check out Indian Lounge next time👍🏽
Excellent review and gorgeous looking food glad you chose lamb as most people go for chicken but your last words were my first words the portions were very small especially compared to some of the other curries you and Luke have reviewed 👍👍🥘🥘🍺🍺
9:39 You ended the bit where I was gonna come!
Just catching up on a few Ive missed...have to say love your background music, no matter what the topic it always seems to go with the story..thank-you for taking the time....regards Doc from Down Under
😃
Much appreciated
Nice setting. Also nice are the plugs behind you for the ECG. 😆
😂😂
Good evening Darren. What a beautiful building that is. The restaurant definitely has put it some magic with the decor. Food looked tasty. It did look a bit small in portion for what you paid. But the main thing is you enjoyed it. I'm not brave enough to try the vindaloo lol! I like the chasni and patias. Just love the extra walk at the end Darren. Thanks again for sharing and see you on the next one! 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
Thanks so much June - always love walking the streets of London
Hey DJ! I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to curries. Can only have the mild sweet ones. Never think about having lamb in curry either. Even though it’s my favourite meat. I always have chicken. Nevertheless a nice looking starter and main dish - not that I could eat those. Your face spoke volumes again. Could tell it was OTC. Very nice relaxing video as always and the restaurant was fabulous inside. Take care 😘👍🏻
i saw they do a phall, so that is on the list! cheers
I have filmed a few phall curries, nice
mouth is now watering going to try it next time in the area
The waiter waiters a bit early for a Christmas jumper isn’t he ? 😀. Your meal looked lovely
I thought that too
Most people that try a super hot curry......"oh Jesus that's fu*£ing hot, my mouth - water, water". DJ when he trys a super hot curry - "thats warm" 😆
😂😂😂👍🏼
Yay DJ my favorite vindaloo. I love your content, you are a honest man. See you soon
Awesome! Thank you!
Fair play . It looks quality there. I cant handle the hot stuff
. Tikka massala is my limit so i will whimp out. Great shots of London as usual. Thanks
Food looks delicious
The food looked amazing DJ. I’m in London this week for 3 days on a business trip, might have to give this restaurant a visit ❤
Nice place Rob 👊🏼🙏🏼👍🏼
Superb DJ, I couldn’t have ate it myself, a bit too spicy for me, but it looked Amazing 🌶️🌶️👍👍
Another fantastic video Darren. Have to say that Vindaloo is one of my favourite curries. I actually had one the other day at my local restaurant. Definitely off the charts👌👌. Agree with you about the portion size but glad you enjoyed it. Great choice of beer too. Cobra is my go to lager at a curry house🍺. Thanks for sharing as always mate.
Nice one Richard 👍🏼👊🏼🙏🏼
What a lovely place. And great value. I love a curry but I wuss out on a mild one, you kept your cool with the vindaloo. 🥵🥵🔥🔥
Always love a quality Indian meal, the heat is just part of enjoyment of the food. I have a lovely local Indian restaurant, the Himalayan but when I'm next in Kings Cross station, I will give it a try. 10 out of 10, it's 21.45pm and I'm now feeling hungry 😊👍🏽♥️
So nice
Looked great and loved the garden and pound downstairs, like spice but would be to hot for me. The architecture on that building was beautiful till the next one.
🙏🏼👍🏼🌶
I go past this restaurant regularly, never realised it was so nice inside, shame I don't eat Indian food otherwise I'd go in
What a beautiful looking restaurant and the food looked great too!! I've had Vindaloo curries here and loved them so I'd definitely try it in England. Delish!! And I'm definitely with you on just wandering around the City and finding new and exciting places to explore. A City like London would have so much to offer. Love a good curry vlog and this was great! Made me super hungry and crave a curry 😂 Cheers for that 👍🏼😁💙
There's something about curries Penny, makes you want one just by the aroma
Penny are you in NYC, l saw a video of an authentic Indian vindaloo restaurant and beyond!!
@@nige3801 No I'm not from NY but have been there before but can't say I ate Indian food whilst there. I ate more American type foods like burgers, pizzas, hot dogs and bagels 😂
Vindaloo is never too hot for me either 🌶️🌶️ I like my curry’s to be madras strength minimum. Food looked great I will have to treat myself to a curry for my upcoming birthday 😎
I dare you to try a curry with insanity sauce.
@@andywrong3247 I’m always up for a challenge spice wise so I will give it a go if I come across it 🥵😂 I’ve had phycho juice a few times to add to dishes that’s very hot but I enjoy it
I do love a good curry DJ and Vindaloo is one of my favourites. I have had Phall before as well, very powerful and spicy. Looked high class OTC Indian food DJ very nice.
Looks great! I enjoy a good lamb vindaloo just have to be careful how often I eat one.
I went there today. One of my go to places when i'm visiting London.
Nice one 🙏🏼👍🏼
What a place I didn't expect there Amazon rainforest in the basement. It's Looked a good curry with plenty of source to hot for me I wimp out on a lamb bhuna 😁👍
That place doesn’t look great but might be better in real life. Love walking around London finding hidden gems.
Indeed Kurt
I can't even handle a vindaloo in New York any more, although I used to be able to. A vindaloo in London is much hotter, as I discovered about 30 years ago, so I'm not likely to try again. But I will watch the video because I like your food reviews and I've finally subscribed as well. Also I now think I owe you a watch of the video just to be sure that your head doesn't fall off. I wish I could still eat these very hot things, such as dried Sichuan peppers, but I cannot. I even pick the jalapeno bits out of dishes that come with them. I don't want to endure the reminders that come the next day.
My go to chicken tikka Vindaloo have the odd phall when flued up burn it out of the system.that did look scrumptious Darren 😉
Love a vindaloo Darren, tastes just right.
Tried phaals a couple of times and it's just pure heat but with a vindaloo you can tell it's got a proper flavour and not just throwing in as much chilli as possible.
Another great find, food looks banging. People get mislead a vindaloo when it’s made properly it can’t be beaten in my opinion 👍
That curry looked amazing, I do like a nice bit of heat 🌶️ in my food 👍🏽 The starter you had looked superb, I had food envy 😂 Indian restaurants for the most part are all stunningly decorated inside aren’t they and that one was no exception, beautiful 🤩
Looked great, would defo love to see you try a northern curry to see how they compare
Me too
Your so right about Kings Cross, many treat it as a means to an end, instead i will start treating it as a means to enjoy some great food.
Incidentally, the hotel at St Pancras is absolutely beautiful, we stayed there in December 2020, had a great view of the Barlow trainshed.
Nice one Jon
When you said grays Inn Rd all I could think about was cows eating 🤣
😂🙏🏼
I always get a chicken Bhuna vindaloo, keema naan mushroom rice… wherever I go… absolutely love Indian 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Sounds great!
Lol I've been banging on to friends and family about that beer pouring video.
🙏🏼👍🏼
That was a great curry...taste and flavour with heat...great balance.
Glad you liked it
Food looked gorgeous Darren, must give it a go there sometime. Vindaloo - perfect heat ! I love an occasional curry on my own, one of my guilty pleasures ! Cheers and best wishes. p.s.......are you still using Creed ?
Still use Creed - and recently purchased some Acqua Di Parma (lovely)
Said before we have some superb Indian restaurants here in Glasgow but that place looks well good and for London its reasonably priced.
looks good and a lovely resteraunt.i always have vindaloo, but never lamb.on my to do list.thankyou
Hope you enjoy
