To walk in a beautiful landscape with the heat on the face while snow lies at the feet ... magical memories. I always appreciate the way you put in a map route and generous peak filming so others can use it as an aid in route planning.👍
Hope the videos help 😁 its a fantastic area..
Cheers, James
Have just discovered your videos. I did the Cairn Toul-Braeriach Traverse in the opposite direction on a horrible wet, misty, snowy day back in May 2015 and didn't get a view until I was coming off the summit of Braeriach. I did it in one day in 14hrs 25mins. Definitely type 2 enjoyment for that one! Thank you for the opportunity to see the views that I didn't get to see. We really are lucky to have such beauty in Scotland (when you can see it!).
That must have been challenging! It was hard enough over 2 days 😂 fantastic route though,
Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney It was definitely a tough day in pretty horrific weather but a great sense of achievement!
Hi James, Doesnt matter what route you take on this one its an epic undertaking. Sore feet is the norm in my experience. Superb day, superb video as normal. 😃 🙌
Yes it is a great route, you are right, my feet were destroyed by the Chamalain Gap on the way out 😂 one I won’t forget in a while!
Cheers, James
That kind of weather on Braeriach is nuts. It has its own climate that basically nobody can predict so you lucked out!
I was lucky.. I did wait years for the 2 day weather window 😂
Cheers, James
Well done James. Great video. I did that in one and walked through the Lairig Grhu in the dark with my head torch, that was an experience 😂
Thank you 😁 wow that would be an experience - Its not the most even of “paths” 😂
Cheers, James
Oh amazing was supposed to do this last weekend but the weather was not playing game so just did Ben Macdui and cairn gorm instead , , love your videos they realy inspire me thank you
Thanks for watching 😁 thats a shame about the weather - it’s not been great recently! Hopefully you get to do it soon.
Cheers, James
Been here weeks now loving it. The whole area is just incredible walking and the navigating tests your skill set at the best of times. Lovely
Cairngorms are incredible 😁
Cheers, James
You took your time doing this and i really respect that, it's so easy to rush hiking you seem like you have it nailed. The weather was awesome i wish it was like this for me! Still yet to conquer cairn toul, I've done braeriach but not the other side of the corrie. One day i will get back but it's a 7 hour drive 😅 i really enjoyed watching the vid 👏
Thanks Bob, had to wait a while for this weather window so took my time & enjoyed it 😂 hopefully you get back up there and get to see Cairn Toul, special place!
Cheers, James
What an amazing video James. I was there last week but came in from the Linn of Dee and did it Devils Point first. Had to bail after Cairn Toul because the wind was so strong. Always another day. Love the content 👍
Thanks Euan, thats a good effort! Can imagine it must be hard going in wind up there, I had to wait ages to get the right conditions 🤣
Cheers, James
Super video of an outstanding traverse: thanks. The white legs give away your aversion to shorts! In a previous video you asked for recommendations for future Munros. Often done as the first or last is Ben More on Mull. As one of the few I have done I would thoroughly recommend doing it via the A' Chioch ridge from Loch Na Keal rather than the slog up the "tourist" path. Use the tourist path for descent and if it's a hot day a lovely pool awaits to dip your feet or have a dunk as my son did while waiting fo me to catch up!
Thanks Robert 😁 haha I thought that, it was a nightmare exposing my shots as my legs are so bright 😂
To be honest I haven’t looked at Mull yet - but that route does sound interesting! Especially the pools at the end 😁 I don’t think I will be doing it last anyway - want one a bit closer to home so friends/family can join 😂
Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney You might enjoy this preview of Ben More on my channel. I’m the old timer! My channel is a mix of walking (less so now my knees are knackered) diving and cycling. ruclips.net/video/2Dicox3Jdko/видео.html
Stunner of a video! I do love that plateau across to Glen Feshie and getting a wild camp up there is something else. Well done. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thank you 😁 its a fantastic place! Going to be hard to beat that wildcamp..
Cheers, James
Fantastic videos. I live in Dubai and dream about starting my own Munro journey one day, largely thanks to your RUclips channel. Great editing and camerawork too!
Thanks James 😁
Love this mate. Really enjoyed the longer format too! Hopefully I'll be able to follow in your footsteps on this walk soon!
Thanks Alasdair - enjoy when you do it 🏔😁
Cheers, James
Hi James, this is a great video i recently sumitted Breariach also done ben macdui i just love the cairngorm mountain range.Unfortunatley i didnt get the weather you had.but i will be back to finish them all off at some point but with living in lancashire its finding the time.keepup the great videos look forward to seeing more, happy hiking.
Great video, thoroughly enjoyed that. Glad to see you had better weather than I had a couple of years back.
Thanks Callum, I have been lucky with the weather recently.. it can only last so long 😂
Cheers, James
Spectacular views! I always think the Devil's Peak looks quite diminutive compared to its enormous neighbours but it looks like a brilliant mountain. I did the Braeriach Traverse last year, but even though I camped, I decided not to do the Devil's Peak because I started the Traverse with a lengthy walk through the Lairig Ghru and then did the fantastic Angel's Ridge scramble to the summit of Sgor an Lochain Uaine. After all that I thought three summits was enough.
Its a fantastic place 😁 you are right, the Devils Peak does look tiny compared to its neighbours.. the Angel’s Ridge scramble looks great too, will definitely do that in the future 😁
Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney Highly recommended! And not too difficult - a grade 1 scramble, though the last wee bit seemed a bit more tricky, or maybe I took a wrong turn! Quite a slog to reach the start, so don't do it on one of the hottest days of the year, as I did.
Literally on this section in the SMC Guide and then it was your next video! The footage and format is superb as always, so enjoyed the longer feature, the videos are relaxing yet informative, you let the mountains do the talking! In the Mournes where I am everything is relatively straightforward for even the most inexperienced hiker/runner (safety of the Mourne Wall) but the Cairngorms are certainly a place beyond
Keep up the great work, videos are getting better and better 👍
Great vid mate, brought back a bunch of memories for me as I covered all that area when younger….keep up the good work pal and most of all enjoy.w
Thanks Drew glad it brought back some memories for you 😁 I really enjoyed this one!
Cheers, James
Good stuff mate was up there in May 23 this year. Fantastic man
Thank you, its some place 😁🏔
Stunning James! Love your vlogs! Keep up the great adventures!👏👏👏👏
Thanks Allan glad you enjoy them 😁
Cheers, James
Wonderful video again James! Loved the longer format too - was on the other side of the Lairig Ghru in May in good weather and your video has inspired me to try the Braerich Traverse too…good call on the wilds camping site.
Thanks John, its a special place! Perfect wild camping spot with the water springs too.. Enjoy, Cheers, James
Great video James! One for the future for me! Looks amazing and the sheer scale is hard to comprehend. Great looking wee camping spot too. You knocked it off! Fantastic! Paul
Thanks Paul, you will love these! You must be the same, hard to capture what is on front of you with a camera 😂
Cheers, James
Great hike, beautiful scenery. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching 😁

Thanks Keith, really enjoyed that trip 😁

What a pleasure to watch. Felt like I was there. Thanks for the video. PS look forward to your Fisherfield outing - never made it to those hills.
Thanks Annie 😁 im hoping to get Fisherfield before the end of the year (weather dependant), looking forward to it!
Cheers , James
Great day out, that's were i camped you done the right thing the midge are killer down at the bothy.
Its a great spot, like you say much better than at the Bothy 😁
Cheers, James
Another fantastic video, definitely inspiring to get up the Munro's!
Thanks Paul 😁🏔
That looked a great wee outing James! Really well filmed too! 👍atb Chris
Thank you 😁 starting to get the hang of this wildcamping malarkey..
Cheers, James
Fantastic James 👍
Thanks for watching 😁
Cheers, James
Fantastic video. Looking at this traverse in future. Maybe return via Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm over 2 days. Keep the great videos coming.
Really wonderful video James. Now subscribed so I can watch more at my leisure. All the best.
Thanks Mike glad you enjoyed it 😁
Cheers, James
Beautiful
Greatest video James. What a day you got. Looked amazing ! I’m heading to the cairngorms in August for a hiking weekend so 🤞I get wether like you did . 🏴⛰👌
Thanks Andrew.. was so lucky with the weather! Hope you get the same in August 😁
Cheers, James
Great video 👍brings back memories ,wish i camped out that walk instead all in a day ,on a hot day also 😭can't wait for your next video esp the isle of sky section .I've almost done my Munro's about 20 to go keep putting off the inn pin ha .
Thanks Paul, must be an epic one doing that in a day! Looking forward to Skye - might be next year before I do it but might make a start on the easier ones this year 😁
Nice one, can imagine a lot of people put off In Pinn until late on haha - do you know which will be last?
Cheers, James
Soz for rate reply ,defo ben vorich near loch lomand my last munro said that would be my first munro got overtaken by the the big boys so got forgotten, skye ,fisherfield 5 and some near craig then im all done ,off to merrick this weekend scottish borders ,dont forget about the corbets ha 👍
Absolutely loved this video and helps me prepare for my own trip over later in the year. You've earned a new subscriber here, excellent video! By the way, for your hayfever, I have a magic trick. Pick some local nettles and make nettle tea (add honey if you don't want the bitter taste) use a really good handful of nettles. Thank me later 🙂
Really enjoying your videos James I've still to do this although I think the long walk was putting me off. Ideal to camp overnight to break it up. Can't wait for your next one
Thanks Kenneth, I was putting it off too as I wasn’t keen on doing it in a day.. the camping helped 😁 Enjoy when you do it!
Cheers, James
Great video - I hope to do this when I retire in a year's time.
Enjoy, its a fantastic route 😁
Cheers, James
Awesome trip m8, planning later this year myself
Thanks Colin - enjoy, its a fantastic route 😁🏔
Cheers, James
I enjoyed this video and I’ll check out your others! Incidentally I’m Andrew O’Donnell’s biggest fan - 68 and still grooving!
Thank you 😁 Beluga Lagoon are absolutely fantastic, couldn’t not use a track or two 😁
Cheers, James
Great video. I love that circuit and I’m very pleased you had great weather. Noticed you weren’t wearing the usual La Sportiva, I’m guessing that was in anticipation of hot weather?
Ps. Thanks for introducing me to Beluga Lagoon👍🏼 brilliant
Thanks Rob, yes was pretty much guaranteed the good weather for once 😁 didn’t want to sport the La Sportiva with shorts.. think I made the right choice as the ground was pretty good & the trainers were fine 😁
Glad you like Beluga Lagoon, they are fantastic 😁
Cheers, James
I was thinking how reasonable season appropriate you were you going with what looked like a synthetic summer bag but then you said it must have got down to 2 or 3 degrees - ouch I would shivered all night.😉
It was pretty cold up top! I will maybe invest in a warmer bag - or trousers 😂
Cheers, James
Cracking video, James! Great to see ones we've still to do and given us ideas about how. Be good to see a video on how you've dialled down your kit - always find that interesting as a gear geek. Noticed you seemed to be dry camping - no obvious water source near your tent. Where did you get water from? Thanks for uploading. 🏴⛰👍
Thank you 😁 its a fantastic route, you will love it! I think I will do a full video on my kit probably in Autumn,
Luckily there was a fresh water spring about 50m from my tent - makes the spot even better 😁
Cheers, James
You picked a great day to do that walk, views were amazing. Hope to do those hills sometime in the future. I did Ben Macdui a year and a half ago and views were non existent sadly
Cairngorms are fantastic, this has to be up there with my favourites, definitely return to Macdui for the view 😁
Very enjoyable video. I hope you can get the tent you want. Quite a few good ones are out of stock at the moment.
Thank you 😁 been looking at a few options, might be next year before I decide 😂
Cheers, Jamss
Brilliant video mate! The song around 11:30 was amazing, can I ask what it is?
Brilliant video James. Stunning scenery and not a sole to be seen. I'd love to try wild camping one day, but just haven't got the confidence to get the gear and give it a go, would bring on my anxiety I think unfortunately.
Out of interest, I see your walking with walking shoes rather than boots. Do you find this just as supporting on long uneven walks?
Keep the Munro videos coming, they really are superb and you seem to have the good weather luck too.
Thanks Graham, there was a few people about but I tend to film when its quiet 😁
I know how you feel - I get anxious the day before a camp & my mind is always telling me to bail out.. but its actually really rewarding once you get out and do it 😁 also.. its never as bad as you think it will be!
Yes I chose shoes for this one as I didn’t fancy the heavy boots in the heat, I didnt really notice a lack of support until maybe the last few hours of day 2, my ankles were a bit worse than normal.. the Cairngorm paths are usually pretty good so that probably helped 😁
Thanks for watching 🏔
Cheers, James
Did this today with the dog however summited cairn toul and came back on myself… managed to do it in 9hrs 30 mins. Have no idea how, and racked up 52,000 steps. Safe to say my legs are not in good shape.
Thats some effort well done 👏 you must have had some mixed conditions today?
@@ScottishMunroJourney believe it or not it did not rain once! Watched it rain everywhere else bar on me! Couldn’t believe it, pretty much perfect conditions. Very little wind and nice temperature. Got very lucky
Brilliant mate… magic vid🤩
Aye huge hills there! Legend has it that the original name for devils peak was actually devils penis😂 the story goes that Queen Victoria asked her ghilli John brown the name of that hill and to save her blushes he said.. it’s called Devils Peak Ma’am😂
Look forward to the next one mate👍🏻
Thanks Steve 😁👍 haha I should have mentioned that in the vid 😂 great story.. for some reason I didn’t look up the definition for that one ☹️😂
Enjoyed the longer video mate 👍 am the same when go camping unless its with the misses don't wont folk around
Thanks mate 😁 better to enjoy the solitude 😁🏔
Cheers, James
Great vid, many thanks. I have knee issues and was a bit disappointing that you cut out the descent to Corrour bothy. I'd have liked to judge how hard I might find it.
Thanks Phil, sorry about that, it was early morning and I just wanted to make progress 😂 it was pretty steep coming down initially, with some loose stones.. but doesn’t last too long
Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney I was going to do the route as part of my TGO Challenge this year, going up from Achleum in Glen Feshie. In the end decided to leave it for another day and continued up the Feshie. The camp spot in the Bealach at the top of Corrie Odhar looks a nice spot.
Excellent James. Well done. It’s a long one. How did you find the lighter boots? Atb gordon
Thanks Gordon, really enjoyed this one - yeah they were good, perfect for the Cairngorms paths 😁 ankles were feeling it a bit at the end of day two but think it was worth it!
Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney I did the same route years ago in leather boots and it was day 2 that convinced me o needed something lighter and softer for summer: haven’t looked back since. Trail shoes even better imo
Nice vid. I am there in July and was planning to do this. Any pros/cons to doing it your way? (Munro’s first, walk out 2nd day). I was thinking the other way round but your way might be better( gets the hills out of the way when fresher, gives option of camping higher if corrour busy). Also I assume no water up in the beallach ? You’d need to fill up at the falls of Dee?
Thanks Bob, I personally enjoyed it this way.. there is a fresh water spring right next to where I camped so it was perfect!
I also wanted to get the harder day out the way first as I knew I would sleep better in the tent.. probably down to personal preference 😁
The biggest pro is probably the sunset/sunrise you will get at the bealach, but you could still do Lairig Ghru then up to Bealach on day one 😁
Enjoy whichever way you choose!
Cheers, James
Was that the source of the River Dee you crossed over ?
Hi james whats the name of the carpark? Heading there in may and would love to do this route
Hi, loved this video, what were you're feet like from wearing shoes ?
Thank you 😁 they were fine, a lot of the ground was on paths apart from the odd boulder field 😁
Cheers, James
Thanks James, sorry to be a gear geek but how much do you think your pack weighed ? It was great to see it so quiet up there or was it just clever editing. Keep up the good work.
@@berylbear1794 I think it was around the 15kgs mark, but I have 2 Cameras and Small tripod etc, I will be doing a video on my setup in the future 😁
It was pretty quiet, but yes I usually film when there is no one around 😂 the busiest part was Corrour Bothy..
Cheers, James
How long did it take u from car to camp mate
Think it was around 8-9 hrs, I do a lot of messing about though.. its a great place to camp 😁
Two hundred and eighty second like.
Can you see the funicular
You can from the start 😁
