Since filming this series in May/June I am saddened to say that Dave Fowler from West Coast Mountain Guides has sadly lost his life in the mountains - I will leave the videos up at the moment in his memory. Dave gave me the best 4 days I have ever had in the Mountains and memories that will last with me forever.
His passion and love for the outdoors really shows. He will be sadly missed by myself and many others. Thoughts are with everyone involved at this time - RIP Dave.. 🏔

Dave guided my wife over the Aonach Eagach, she felt so reassured by his calm and knowledgeable presence; I'm grateful to him for keeping her safe. RIP Dave. Really enjoy watching your videos every evening, keep them coming.

I enjoyed the Skye video's and was upset to learn of Dave, and his clients, deaths. Condolences to family and loved ones. His enthusiasm shines through these video's, and the legacy he leaves, must be the joy and sense of achievement he gave to those under his wing, the realisation of dreams... r.i.p.

I can appreciate how you feel. When I was doing my week's MLC assessment in the Cairngorms, I had the privilege of having John Cunningham as my assessor. He was a great Scottish climber and instructor who was working out of Glenmore Lodge at the time. If you check up on his life you will find that, amongst other things, he had been a Justice of the Peace in Antarctica and had a mountain on South Georgia named in his honour! Ironically, having done some of the hardest climbs in the highest mountains, he lost his life attempting to rescue a student who had fallen into the sea while climbing sea cliffs.
Sgurr nan Gillean is my favourite hill for views. It's also the nearest you can get to flying without leaving the ground! Incidentally, that wasn't an abseil, it was a lowering. In an abseil, the rope reaches all the way down and you basically have a controlled slide down it! Irrespective of the method, whateven gets you down safely is good! Keep climbing.

Great video. Not sure what my 200th was though I know it was in 2007. However, I’m sure you will do better than me as my last was my 220th several years ago. I find it almost unbelievable watching these videos that I did the Cuillin , indeed repeating more than half of them. Can barely climb the footbridge at my local station now!

Fantastic video James, thank you. The ‘Bad Step’ on Am Basteir looked exhilarating, as did the west ridge of Sgurr Nan Gillean. What a great week you had on Skye and what an excellent guide Dave was. Certainly one to consider when I eventually get to Skye. You tackled all the difficulties that the ridge had to throw at you with consummate ease. Your 200th Munro being Sgurr Nan Gillean, they don’t come much better than that, very well done. What a memory! I look forward to watching your ascents of the next 82 Munros. Thanks again.

Wonderful James. You cartainly got a good week. Your videos are just fantastic - what a great intro for people although exposure always seems greater with headcams than in real life. I had one of the hairiest moments ever climing the chimney on the west ridge of Gillean. I put my collie in my rucsac and set off up with my wife behind. The rucsac had an upper extension which is foopy when empty. Somehow the dog climbed into this so that she was effectively free to swing around although tied in. As she swung around it was totally unsafe to let go with either hand so I just waited in the hope she would be still. All my wife could see looking up was my shoes and the dog's head looking down at her. We had left home Moray) late morning so I hadn't realised it was getting late. Unbelievably a guide appeared above. Seeing my plight he climbed down and roped me and my wie up. We arrived at the top to a stunning sunset and got down the trickier bit of the "tourist route" before total darkness fell and we stumbled our way down.

Thank you! I think they are similar but Gillean was slightly trickier for me, I think there is one harder move than In-Pin.. enjoyable with a guide though! Yes there is a bypass for the bad step but it is also difficult & exposed, I think route finding is the most challenging thing in the cuillin! Enjoy,
      Cheers, James

I would never, ever be roped to anyone else whilst all are moving. If one of the other persons falls, there's a real danger he/she will pull you off too. I think "short roping" is incredibly dangerous. I will only be roped if one person is fully and securely belayed.
But what a ridge that is.

If used in the correct manor then short roping is safe on a sharp ridge 👍

Has the 'bad step' on Am Bastier got harder since I did it? I don't recall it being much of a problem

Depends on your experience I suppose, its rated Severe but its a very short down climb.. I was happy to have a rope on 😁

Told you Ben Wyvis was pretty ordinary and you’d change your mind about your favourite mountains when you visit the Cuillin, An Teallach etc.

Wow just incredible. Always watch them through the tv and it’s better than any other show out there! Good luck for the next 82. Might be able to watch without stressing 🫣
