  • Ford's all-new Super Duty truck delivers the highest average payload and towing figures available in a 3/4-ton or 1-ton pickup truck. To get there Ford re-wrote the rules and designed an all-aluminum body and bed. Then Ford pulled out all the stops and added every last bit of luxury goodies and gadgetry they could to create the ultimate Cowboy Cadillac. Or would that be a Cowboy Lincoln?

    For anybody who is curious about gas mileage. I have the 2017 F350 dually crew cab 4x4 with the 4.10 rear. Im getting 17.9 driving back and forth to work everyday and 12.9 pulling my camper. Its getting better mileage the more I drive it. Its is well mannered and very quiet. Everybody who has every got into it for the first time notices how quiet the cab it. I love this thing and get compliments everywhere I go.

    2017 F-250 Lariat with 6.7. Average on the on board computer is 18.6. From Los Angeles to Phoenix Arizona, at the speed limit with 5 adults and luggage it gave me 20.4 mpg. The faster you go the lower the mpg. I kept it at max 75mph. From orange county to Bakersfield, same load it gave 19.3.

    Would really like for Alex to review the Super Duty or any 3/4 ton with the gas engines. I used to be on the diesel bandwagon but the $8k price tag for diesel engines is too big of a price tag when you really start crunching numbers. Not to mention the added maintenance costs and the diesel treatments required (dpf, adblue, etc). The towing and payload capacities of the gas is fine for the majority of people who tow occasionally.

    I was looking forward to this review. It was quite informative and I appreciate the time that was spent trying to untangle the myriad of options and trim levels for a comparison. These trucks aren't cheap, but they are all great, across all of the makes. It was nice to see comparisons and recommendations on that front too. I've been biding my time in the 3/4 - 1 ton market for a purchase, and this definitely helped clear up some things.

    Own a 2017, F-250, 4X4, XLT Crew Cab and have had it to the dealership twice for "death wobble" Ford claims they engineered it out in 2016 for the 2017 (and up) models but even 2018 & 2019 owners are experiencing "death wobble" as well. The dealership replaced a bunch of front end steering and suspension components the first time then told me they couldn't find anything wrong or duplicate the issue the second time in. They said they drove it 37 miles over varied road surfaces but couldn't get it to act up. They said the tire air pressure was incorrect. Ironically, the truck was serviced the previous Saturday by their sister Ford dealership so they adjusted the tire pressure at that visit.....this was the following Thursday the "death wobble" reared it's ugly head again. Last week, two different law firms contacted me asking if I would like to join a class action lawsuit against FOMOCO for this "death wobble" they continue to deny exists or will do anything significant to rid these trucks of it.
    When you pay $50k, $60k, $70k, and more for a vehicle, it shouldn't spontaneously start violently shaking to the point it's so dangerous it can cause a crash or worse......

    12.5 mpg is stupid low mpg for a diesel 3/4 ton. Our 2001 F250 7.3 4x4 crew cab will get 18 highway and 15 in town easy... Hell, we get 11-13 mpg with a 2000 pound camper on it! The 6.7 is obviously much more capable than an old 7.3 but wow, that's a really disappointing number...

    I know looks are subjective and I don't look at myself as a truck guy however I do own one. For me, Ford's trucks just seem to be trying too hard to look "mondo". By that I mean their looks are just too strong (I'm sure many like it) and I prefer something that looks like it isn't trying so hard to look tough. I like the look of something toned down some.

      Blake Swan because the government buys and uses these vehicles in mass and the epa mandated exhaust treatments (def, dpf) cause the economy to half. many deleted trucks get 25 mpg. Also, diesel burns cleaner and requires much less refinement, so it's basically a wash.

    What!? Only 2000lbs payload? My Hilux at about half the size of this behemoth has a higher payload capasity than that.

    • @alexsmba
      @alexsmba 6 лет назад

      Torvikholm actually up to 7,000 lbs payload. Ridiculous to compare to a Hilux. The larger cab takes up some of the extra payload. Make no mistake. These axles and drive shafts can take a hell of a lot more weight.

    • @Torvikholm
      @Torvikholm 6 лет назад

      What you forget is the "up to". The "up to" is for the bottom of the range model. With the smallest engine, 2wd, and absolutely no options. The gross weight for the SRW is up to 11,5k lbs no matter what. The 7000 lbs payload is for a DRW single cab, again with absolutely no optional extras.
      This truck in the video is neither. It is maxed out with every option imaginable. that is why the payload is so low. The curb weight is going trough the roof when you add all the optional extras.
      I dont care about what the frame potentially can do in a laboratory. What this specific vehicle is capable of is what i care about.
      And it is not enough.
      You are right about the Hilux not allowing for the same gross weight. That is at a mere 7K lbs. You forget about the gross weight being static, where as the curb weight is floating according to grades, cabs, and whether or not is is a 4x4.
      This is the truck people buy, this is the payload people get. claiming that this also can handle 7000 lbs, because a model weighing 5000lbs less can do it is at best misleading.
      I dont care about the fleet buyers, they dont buy this grade. I dont care about the single cab, I know it has a higher payload.
      It is this, and this specific truck.
      2k lbs is not enough for such a large vehicle.

    • @Sebastian-il5hn
      @Sebastian-il5hn 6 лет назад

      The US has different rating systems and truck classification, which kind of makes the numbers all meaningless. This is consider a Class 2B truck, giving it a gross weight group of 8,501-10,000 pounds. Since this truck is fully loaded, a top of the line trim that so damn heavy, ~8,000 lbs, it only has about ~2,000 of breathing room in its class. So really, they just make up the number and say it can only carry 2,000 lbs. There's no safety or durability standard that prevents them for making it 3,000 lbs or higher. In fact, there's really only few differences between this and the model that can carry 7,500lbs, just fewer leafs, single rear wheels, larger cab and more equipment, making the curb weight higher and decreasing the payload.

    • @alexsmba
      @alexsmba 6 лет назад

      Torvikholm I’ll make it simple then. Most people accept the fact that bigger heavier cabs use up more of the GVW, therefore will yield lower payload numbers.
      As apples to apples as I can make this for you:
      Toyota HiLux Dbl cab 4x4 diesel automatic:
      Payload: 925 kg
      Towing: 3200 kg
      Power: 130 kW
      Torque: 450 Nm
      Ford F-350 SRW diesel crew cab 4x4
      Payload: 1,800 kg
      Towing: 9,360 kg (GN); 8,200 kg (conventional).
      Power: 336 kW
      Torque: 1,267 Nm

    • @Torvikholm
      @Torvikholm 6 лет назад

      That the ford has more power and torque I have never disputed. The payload, and power for that matter, you have found is for the Australian version. I am from Europe, so therefor we receive the smaller 2.4 liter engine. We also get uprated suspension, so we get a payload of 1035kg + 75kg for driver. ie 1110kg.
      www.vegvesen.no/Kjoretoy/Kjop%2Bog%2Bsalg/Kjøretøyopplysninger?registreringsnummer=CF83238
      this links to the governments car spec page. and this license plate belongs a dealer demo car, identical to mine.
      The "mål og vekt" tab translates to "size and weight", "nyttelast" is "payload".
      But what I dont understand is how you managed to find 1800kg payload. He literally said 2000lbs payload for the F350 in question. As I have stated multiple times, I don't care about the entry level model, cause that is not the model people buy. It is this one. That a entry level can handle large payloads is well and good, but when you fill the car up with extras and are left with only 2000lbs payload it is too little.
      When I say that my car has a payload of 1110kg, I literally mean my car. I do have the top range with all the optional extras, except GPS. My car has this payload rating, not a stripped out rear wheel drive model with a tiny petrol engine.

    I own a F-350 and it's been a great truck. I also own a collision center that get's a lot of F series in my shop. I'm certified in aluminum repair. So being a Ford owner and a shop that fixes the F series. STAY AWAY FROM THE NEW FORD F-SERIES. These trucks are unsafe. I'm not talking mechanical engineering. I'm talking body. They are really good for my business I get a lot of work from this aluminum body. I wouldn't have a new F-series if you gave it to me.

    Some of the worst headlights on any production vehicle literally the equivalent of driving down the road pointing lasers in oncoming drivers eyes.

    Payload/ towing capacity... All bs .. It's confusing and mostly a waste of time. I rarely see people in the south towing anything..People buy trucks today as a cool fashion statement..

    These trucks are junk, the square body early 90s f150 with the straight six will still be around like cockroachs while these head to the junkyard with under 100k miles on them.

    Frankly , no body cares about gas guzzling cars especially ford pick up trucks. It's sad that one of the oldest car manufacture company like ford lack in innovation and poor styled vehicle. New car company like tesla is exceeding in tech and modern car design and desirable by the majority of the consumers . Ford should start in electric vehicles development seriously or face extinction. Hey Ford take notes from Tesla . Ford is greedy car manufacture. Sad and pathetic at company . Love tesla's innovative futuristic cars and services that are in service presently.

      Matt McPherson I do not understand why because many do not use them for the capability. Mostly drive to work at an office/ warehouse. They were sold a truck they didn't buy it.
