What a beautiful hike with scenic shots..loved it..I also visited RMNP recently and made a video too...I loved this amazing place..full of natural wonders....it takes you to a different world altogether...will checkout your other videos as well !Regards!
We are heading to RMNP this year. That is the goal anyway. That's quite a hike! We will need to rest a bunch after that one! Thanks for noting how busy it was. WOW! Totally worth all the work! Thanks for taking us along! Take care and be safe! Kay
You guys are sooo lucky - you get to hike in CO!! I can't wait..... Wow, that is just breathtaking scenery! CO's beauty has always amazed me. Gorgeous hike guys - thanks for letting us come along! 😊❤️🧡
@@SlonesWildernessExpeditions thank you. I’m a bit nervous about the altitude but I’m in shape and I think I’ll be okay. My highest summit here is around 6600 feet. So there’s that.
Thanks! There is so much more to explore there, we really do try to fit too much into our road trips, LOL. This one is very worthy, if your kids are up for it! And the trail has so many cool destinations, you don't have to go all the way to Sky Pond to still have an amazing hike. Rock on!
This is a really good video one of my favioutte ones from you both!! From the greenery to the waterfalls, beautiful lakes and ice!!! Really well put together videos and very great information too!!! Love it!! Great music too
I just got back from RMNP last week. I hiked Sky Pond. Such beautiful scenery. Lake of Glass is absolutely stunning with that mountain back drop. This hike is in my top 5 hikes that I've done, probably top 3.
@@travelingRonman thank you for your response. I hiked Angels landing last year. Next month I'm planning to do one hike at RMNP and currently I can't decide between Sky Pond ( alberta falls, waterfall rock scramble) vs Chasm Lake Hike (in front of Longs Peak, Sharks tooth) Any insight into both hikes would be appreciated
I believe it was one of your videos that solidified my decision to hike this trail! I kept seeing this hike on everyone's recommended list, but actually seeing it in video, yeah, had to see it in person.
Oooh yeah! Can't go wrong in the Rockies. We were in the Grand Tetons the previous two years (I know you were recently there), which might be my overall favorite mountains, but RMNP has some amazing trails too.
@@SlonesWildernessExpeditions I'll have to hopefully visit the Rockies soon and be able to compare to the two. Have you ever been out east to the Smokies?
it is absolutely stunning there. What an amazing hike! The loch lake with the trail beside was so calming! I am so excited that I found your channel. Cant wait to see more. I could go on and on about this video...I loved it!!! I wrote this hike down to do for sure!!
Alberta Falls looks so awesome. This is NOT IL or IN. 4 am, you guys don’t mess around. Oh my goodness, that is a lot of snow. You get green and snow at the same time. Great contrast!! You guys found an amazing trail. Your camera is awesome that you caught all this wildlife.
The good thing is, 4am in Colorado is 6am Indiana time, so the more difficult part was trying to get to bed early! Definitely not in Kansas anymore, Toto (or IN or IL!)
Did this trail on October 20,2020 about 11:30am and once we hit lake of glass it got super windy and we couldnt go any further we all agreed it was to risky. Very very windy.
Wow, what a beautiful hike!! And an intense one! Wow, you got so close to the marmot guy! Incredible views! Would love to check this place out. Did you guys go with a few other people?
It was just my son and I, but there were always other people on the trail, definitely one of the more popular hikes in the park. I hope you do get to check it out!
Thanks for sharing! Quick question, did you have to reserve a time a slot to enter the park? Specially if you’re going so early in the am? Planning to go in 2 weeks Any tips will help! Thank you!
You only need to reserve a time slot if you will be arriving *after* 6am. If you can get there before 6am, such as we did, there is no reservation required. It's a great hike, enjoy!
@@helentong9245 the weather was nice some rain but that’s just mountain weather it comes and goes, as far as the mountains be prepared for snow and bring boots with snow clamps to help hike !
How busy was the park? And I noticed you said something about limited parking? Please explain or give any tips. We want to go on the weekend of august 29th. Thanks so much.
This was on July 3rd, so the park was very busy. The best option is to arrive early (before 6am) and you should be able to find parking at Glacier Gorge trailhead, or Bear Lake trailhead. If you arrive later and those areas are full, you can use the "park & ride" shuttle, where you park across from the Glacier Basin Campground and take a shuttle up to the trailhead. Have fun!
@@SlonesWildernessExpeditions cool! Thanks so much for responding so fast. And we're not morning people and won't arrive before 6am lol. But def will be using the shuttles. Thanks again.
Great video! We are going in a few months--do you have any suggestions on what to take/wear or what NOT to take/wear? Do you pack water or take a purification system? What food did you pack? Thanks in advance, any information is highly appreciated :-)
I suppose it depends on when you are going. We did this hike on July 3rd. The earlier you start the hike, the better. It is a very popular hike, parking fills up quick (though you can take a shuttle from the Glacier Basin parking area too.) Wear layers that are easy to take off as you go. It is chilly in the morning, and you will likely run into some snow on the way up, but the sun warms things up nicely, and you'll be working up a sweat, it's not unusual to see people on the trail decked out in jackets, while others are in shorts! It is a little less than 10 miles round trip, I had two liters of water on me and that was enough (though I always have a water filter in my pack just in case, I use a Katadyn Befree filter.) We had some granola bars for snacks, and packed simple PB&J sandwiches that we ate when we reached Sky Pond. We took our time doing this hike, and still got back to our car in 7 hours. Many do it much faster, others slower, just depends on how many stops you make along the way! Enjoy!
Great video, thank you!! Do you happen to know the answer to this: if we purchased a reservation, and get there and the lot is full, is this where the free shuttles come in? Are there rangers who will direct us to another lot?
There is a large parking lot across from Glacier Basin Campground (on Bear Lake Rd. on your way to the trail) that you can park and ride the free shuttle to the trailhead. Hope this helps!
If you continue down passed the glacier gorge lot, you’ll eventually hit the bear lake lot which is much bigger and less likely to be full. You can start the hike there as well, it won’t make the hike that much longer. But if you need help finding the shuttles, there will be worker at the bear lake lot
At Sky Pond itself, no. However, just passed the Loch, is the trail junction to Andrews Glacier, which leads to the the Andrews Creek backcountry campsite, which is the only campsite in the area. I'm sure the RMNP website has more info on backcountry camping.
I saw a video from 2020 where a couple camped overnight after reaching Sky Pond; it seemed that they were close to it, but they weren't specific about that.
