My dad died on Christmas 2018. My dad wanted his ashes taken to Chasem Lake so My Uncle Scott took my dad ashes and put it into Chasem Lake as his final resting place. He loved hiking this trail. I hiked up this trail with my dad many years ago. Rest in peace Christopher lampman/dad.
Alberta Falls is only 1.2 miles round trip alone. It’s a very easy hike, with smooth trail and even elevation.
This is spot on. After hiking 10+ yrs in the park, I agree with all said. Been on every trail mentioned.

GREAT! This was all my exact Homeland from birth to my later years, how glorious to see your wonderful takes - I was a Longs Peak ("was"?) fanatic all my life, and twice on the East Face, often guiding friends up the North and over the South via West to Keyhole and down. Even once got my mother as far as the corral in Bldr. Field!

Last weekend, I did Sky Pond & Andrew’s Glacier in one day. I also saw the Loch & Alberta Falls along the way.
I'll have to try some I have not done yet, will be out there this September to ride the Denver Century! Thanks! Back when I was a lad of 58 I did what for me was my favorite hike. Up to Chasm Lake, then across the boulder field, then straight up the Diamond face to the top! And repel the face and return to the parking lot. What a great day. Earned my dinner when I got back to Estes Park.
Those views make me want to hike there again. Great recommendations.

Awesome video. Thank you! Very good info from a hardcore hiker. This is what I was looking for. I am planning a trip to Rocky Mountains National Park for September and I am trying to figure out how many days I need for a first trip. Any suggestions?
Happy to see Green/Frozen on this list. My favorite area of the park.
On my own list, I'd definitely replace Twin Sisters with Mt Ida.
Also, Odessa Lake 100% has to be on this list -- with a detour to the small unnamed lake above Helene. While heading up to that lake, you look down on Odessa, Helene, and Two Rivers lakes and it is an incredible view seeing 3 different lakes all at different altitudes.

I've heard of Chasm View but never knew it would be like that. Looks sick, will definitely be checking it out.
it's unrealllll, I never heard about it until a few months ago, it's my favorite spot in the whole park
Been to Chasm View once. The trip up is defiantly Class 3 loose scree. wish I had a climbing helmet while doing it. Not from me falling, but from falling rock above. Its not crazy, but a little bit scary.
Chasm Lake and Chaplin/Chiquita/Yspilon are my favs😀😀

Have you ever done Timber Lake?
It’s on the westside of the park, where it’s emptier and quieter. The trail was mostly empty. It’s ten miles round trip, and I climbed 2,000 feet. It’s also a place to see moose.

Just at Haiyaha today and it is now pale green and full of rock flour after the big Hallet rock slide a month ago.
I can’t even imagine. That’s right around the border of where the park is closed I believe. I’m glad no one was hurt in the slide

Estes Cone offers spectacular views in all directions and get closer to Long's than Twin Sisters.

Add Flattop mountain trail to the list. Top down views of glaciers, hike from bear lake to a view of Granby lake. Marmots, pikas. Great view of longs.
There used to be a ranger-led hike out of Bear Lake that went up Flattop, then Hallett, then let everyone slide down Andrew’s Glacier, before returning to Bear.
When you do long hikes do you camp along the trail or do you hike all the way back to the campground?

You shouldn’t, that’s what we did last summer. And I recommend it anyways so you can avoid the shuttle

Where can I find detailed info on getting to chasm view from the bolder field campground area? Any helpful web links would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
It's pretty tough to find any links on it, I struggled a lot there and found it almost exclusively from climbing beta and talking to climbers. If you pause the video where I included a map, you can see where it is almost exactly from the arrows I included (relative to the 'Longs Peak Keyhole' route on Alltrails)
Kevin, it’s November now, what is the best way to know which hikes in general in RMNP are doable in winter? I know you mentioned a few, but I don’t see AllTrails even real calls it out. Best to just ask rangers? Thanks for the amazing video brother!
Good question! Honestly all of them. The easiest winter hikes for beginner winter hikers would be- Bear Lake, the Loch, Mills Lake, Emerald Lake, Dream Lake. Intermediate to advanced hikes would be more along the lines of Sky Pond and Chasm Lake, hope this helps!

not sure if you've already gone, but there's a park n ride + shuttle that goes to bear lake and glacier gorge trailhead

What time did you start for your morning hike at for chasm lake
I can’t quite remember but maybe 3 or 4 am? We have a sunrise hiking vlog on the channel from chasm lake and maybe we mentioned it but I’m not sure, also the time of year will change sunrise too so that’s a factor, we did it in spring
Lake Haiyaha is one of the most popular hikes in the park, so I wouldn't say no one knows about it. This is not a list of the Top 10 hikes in RMNP, its a list of 10 hikes on the east side of the park that you visited in the winter once. All great hikes but there are many better in RMNP, most of which are best enjoyed in the summer. The west half of the park is not to be missed.
I’ve done Lake Haiyaha a handful of times and have almost always had it to ourselves, so it’s just my experience. I’ve hiked these trails probably over 100 times, definitely other cool ones but these are my favorites! We went to Grand Lake in December, it was incredible and definitely underrated. Hoping we can get back there in the summer when things are actually open

Are the trails pet friendly?
I am not sure, I believe dogs aren't allowed? Because it's a national park? However, there are SO many places and hikes in Colorado that are pet friendly

@@KevinEassa I’ll look it up to be more specific because I always forget the trailhead name. I think it’s dunraven trailhead. There is research center cabins right outside of Estes where you can park. You will go through Roosevelt National Park along the Thompson River. Once you get to a waterfall coming out of the mountain you can go left which will bring you to lost lake or right which will bring you up to overlook lost lake and basically the whole park. There is a camping spot and then you can go off trail to the ice field area. There is another way from a community college which is much shorter and takes you by a B52 crash site but I’ve never taken that trail. Believe me this hike is totally worth it and you won’t see anyone. I always go around July 4th because no bug problems. You will run into snow, especially if you go left at that small waterfall. Also if you do this hike, be in shape. It damn near killed me but I’m in my 50s.
