I am 33. I have had eye floaters since I was a kid. Nothing ever wrong with my eyes. I am nearsighted. There are two times I experienced eye floaters being a bother and that was two times I went through a stressful, anxiety filled time. Anxiety opens the doors for hyper focus so anything that will cause you some distress such as eye floaters becomes a big ordeal for you. Once stress and anxiety is relieved your mind will go back to ignoring them. I promise. When your mind is at peace things such as floaters will not bother you. Polarized sunglasses do help but if you do things to ease your suffering your mind will keep the door open for floaters to be a thing that’s stresses you out.

Hi I suffer from floaters as well . Started about 7 months ago and just saw one tiny dot .. but i was getting of some anxiety medication at that moment and one of the side effects is you get scared really easy over just regular things. So I got scared of the floater and I got hyper focused on them . Now I have a lot in both my eyes and everywhere I look I see them. I can’t stop focusing.. I’m 35 years old and never had them before . Do you think I can calm over them or get used to them in time? So they may increase .. even for a little bit??

I am currently going through this unfortunately. At first I was so scared because I was noticing more floaters than usual and “stars” and I scheduled an emergency appointment with my optometrist and everything checked out. I am also experiencing headaches and this weird squeezing and gritty feeling in my eyes especially at nighttime. Although I know everything is fine logically it’s so scary and I pay extra attention to my eyes and anything that seems off freaks me out so much sometimes to the point of panic. Health anxiety is a beast I’ve struggled with it for years with varying levels of severity.

Thanks for your comment and for watching the video! You’re right. Health anxiety is a beast and it’s really tough! I also had terrible gritty eyes when my anxiety was bad and I remember one night I woke up at 3am and all my eyes were totally bloodshot. It was terrible and I panicked but my optometrist said it was stress. I couldn’t believe it! Eye symptoms are not fun at all!

Hello Cherelle! I want you to know that i watched every videos you did about health anxiety esp. Those lymph nodes bc i also do got mine and it all started with a sinus infection 6 months ago which lead to vertigo, ear infection, balance problems, random pain all over the body, fatigue and the list goes on and on. I've never stop googling and dig deeper and deeper and i was pretty unaware of the anxiety and depression that was with me everyday and now my body was fine i started doing exercise which helped and i had a lymph node like a weekend to my disease, its now the only thing that bothers me but with your videos, its like ive been aware of my mental state like maybe whats wrong with me is really the negativity in my head and now i finally overcome it 💗
Though i still have the tender part on the end line left side of my neck i know that it will finally shrink one day. Best of luck to you continue doing videos about health anxiety 😘😘

Thank you so much for making this video. I struggle with pretty SEVERE anxiety and your video helped me to not feel so alone. So, genuinely thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've been having floaters probably for quite some time but didn't notice them as much until I had a rough migraine. My health anxiety does cause me to pinpoint something within my body and become EXTREMELY hyperfixated on it. In turn, it makes me question if the problem I'm having is actually going on or if my anxiety is playing tricks on me. Lol it's a never-ending vicious cycle.

I've been experiencing floaters for awhile. They are most noticeable when i'm in a sunny room looking at a white wall. It's actually one of the symptoms I worry the least about because they were there before my BFS and health anxiety really kicked into full gear. Plus my Dad says he gets them so that calmed me down. Thanks very much for your videos. As someone who has just started to experience anxiety related symptoms such as persistent muscle twitching, it's helpful to hear from someone who has already experienced and dealt with a lot of these things.

Thank You so much for this video ! I was recently diagnosed with floaters 2 weeks ago in my right eye. I suffer from anxiety disorder to begin with and this just pushed me over the edge. Once the Dr. said "No Cure" I freaked out. I also suffer with Tinnitus (ringing in my ears) which I'm now used to. I've been looking up peoples stories about Floaters so I can learn from their experiences. I see the floaters all the time. I hope they fade or my brain makes them go away. I've been making myself fall asleep as soon as I can so I don't have to deal with them ! When I wake up their there, and I go into "Panic Mode". My Dr. says I'll get used to it. I have soreness, and dry feeling too, and occasional flashes on the side of my eye. It scares me. I know I'm not alone. Why don't people talk about this publicly...Famous People..News..Etc. Thank You and I wish you well .

Thank you for sharing your experience. I totally panicked when I started having them in my right eye about a week ago. I was too scared to even look up what they are, fearing it could be something serious. I finally had the courage to google my symptoms last night. I'm relieved to learn that it's a common problem. So, I heard there's really no way to reverse this condition, which is disappointing but oh well... I'm gonna eat more veggies and continue taking supplements (bilberry, lutein, etc.) Sometimes if I'm not overly conscious of them, I don't see them (or my brain ignores them?!?). It's only when I remind myself of the floaters that they appear more pronounced.

Hey 👋 Great video. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with floaters. I have had anxiety issues since my early teens (I'm now 42), particularly around my health. At times it has truly been dreadful. In & out of the doctors surgery seeking reassurance for the many symptoms I was suffering with at that time. I starting noticing eye floaters 3 years ago and honestly thought I was going blind. No amount of opticians visits was convincing me otherwise 😥 I was certain that the opticians were lying to me. I know now that it was my health anxiety playing tricks with me. Because of my obsession with my floaters and my constant fear of them, I've had to give up work due to my severely high levels of anxiety this is causing. Although, is it my anxiety that's making the perception of them worse or are the floaters causing the anxiety? Will I ever stop noticing them? Any feedback would be fab. I'm desperate to get back to work but my focus is always on my eyes.

I too suffer from health related anxiety, and it is the worst. I've had floaters as long as I can remember but like you never really worried about them. Unfortunately I noticed a new floater recently and this one is quite prominent and dark and tends to wander directly into the field of vision in my right eye. Naturally I went to the internet and began to panic, certain I was having a retinal detachment. I got in to see an optometrist who said my retina looked fine and that this was mostly likely a product of aging (I'm 49). But my anxiety being what it is, I couldn't just accept that and now I've nearly convinced myself I have something else. I have my annual physical tomorrow and will bring it up with my physician. I'm thinking I need an ophthalmologist
referral for further evaluation and maybe that will put my mind at ease. Of course, even if everything is "okay" I'm still severely depressed thinking this dark thing in the middle of my eye is something that is always going to be there.

Thank you for your story. I've spent the last 3 months going to all sort of doctors looking for a specific diagnosis for my "illness" and they never see anything. I would get so frustrated because my question was "why do i always feel
Like this" I've noticed a huge increase in floaters to the point where it's aggravates me to go outside. Only shades or a darker room brings comfort. I've been experiencing a host of other life altering symptoms and thinking about it makes me realize that it just may be stuff I've already dealt with now coming to a head. Would you suggest going to doctor for some anxiety medication and a diagnosis?

I am so hopeless.. I have convinced myself that i have a brain tumor for over a month now and i do not know what to do. I have floaters, feel like i am not balanced, feel like my arms/hands do not always know where they are going and the list keeps on growing. I have been to the docters for 4 times and they say nothings wrong. I got an mri done without insurance because of this and that also came out clear but i just cant believe it. I even emailed the radiologist if he is willing to look at it again and he will do that somewhere this week. But the fact that he did take my request seriously scared the shit out of me. I am now waiting for him to email me 24/7 and i can’t relax. I really feel like i dont have a future..

I was on holiday with my family when I was 18 (I'm 30 now) and I remember being in the car and looking at the sky and I saw one black dot floating in my vision. It honestly put the fear of God into me, I googled and fretted for months over it thinking I was having retinal detachment. I was in uni at the time and it affected my work and everything. I went to the opticians and they told me it was totally normal but my anxiety still convinced me I was going blind, I even emailed RNIB (blind institute) because I was that convinced. This is where my anxiety seemed to begin. About a year after that my anxiety moved to other things and I no longer worry about the floaters. I still have them, its gone from one to about 4 in both eyes but they don't bother me in the slightest. They did increase when I was pregnant but I didn't worry about them. I had an eye check 10 months ago and all was normal and I barely notice them. Thanks for your video 🙂

The main reason for floaters is aging .. anxiety can contribute but it’s not the main cause. Apparently we start seeing them a lot in our 30s (i was first bothered by them at 32), then they subside a bit in the corners and our brain gets used to them, then we get new ones etc.
