    Having watched your take on Ventoy I downloaded and installed it. Setup a 250gb usb added multiple iso's and used without issue so much better than the multiboot version for which I too had issues and gave up on it. Thanks so much for the heads up on Ventoy, truly easy to use works well and is to be recommended. Cheers to you.

    Ventoy is especially easy if you set up your own alias "ventoy" to run something like "~/ventoy/Ventoy2Disk.sh"

    I'm surprised you did not find that you can boot USBs in VB using PLOP
    Set VB to see the USB
    Set VB to boot PLOP.iso
    When the PLOP menu appears, select boot from USB
    At least this works on Windows; I do not see why it would not work on Linux

    Ventoy is insanely handy on Linux or Windows and runs nicely on hdds too.
    I carry not just USBs but ASMT chipset SATA adapters and cheap small SSDs (of good quality like Samsung and Intel, their small size keeps 'em cheap and I often buy used).
    Ensure your USB thumb drive is supported by your PCs firmware! For example some recent USB sticks won't boot on my old Thinkpads because their BIOS doesn't recognize their controller.

    Hey :) you can boot/Install to basically any drive in Virt-Manager by just pointing a disk to /dev/sdX, it just wont work in User-Mode

    Very interesting video. But I have to confess having seen thousands of RUclips videos, the most difficult one. There with a. HDMI capture card with two displays and switching between them, and b. disk group, I really got messed up (in first video watch). I believe (and hope) on repeat video watching, everything will get clear. Anyway, thank you!

    I did mess with the USB stick thing from the first video for a while and I ditched it after a while and it had issues too!
    Never had a real need to use it much. It was just a for giggles thing... Lol
    May give this a go, not sure....
    As for USB disks I do use Sandisk 256 gig 3.1 disks. I have 3 laptops running from them and no HDD's in the laptops... :-)
    I have booted a external cd disk drive in VBox several months back and I just turned on USB 3.0 usb support in VBox. With that said I was in a booted ISO in Vbox to access it though... :-)
    So that is not the same thing I guess but I do wonder why being in "disks group" is a big deal...
    Anyrate... Thanks for the video!
    It's always nice to see a Saturday Video, especially today as it is my Birthday today!
    Before you ask, I'm 29 again this year... LOL
    So thanks for the present... :-D

      Happy Birthday 😀 the problem with being in the disks group is it means you can alter and change anything about the disks without sudo. So basically it’s like enabling an admin permission

    you should use qemu/kvm/virt-manager instead of virtual box bro... it’s way better and faster...

    • @jacekjagosz
      @jacekjagosz 3 года назад

      Sure it is faster, but it is a but harder to configure, and some distros are less compatible with it.
      If all he does is test distros for a while and doesn't use them for tasks where performance is crucial, why change?

    How many different Linux distros can you install with Ventoy alongside each other? ... And, can you install multiple instances of a single distro? What would be the usage of something like that?

    • @OldTechBloke
      @OldTechBloke  3 года назад +1

      As many as your usb stick has space for. And yes you could have multiple instances as long as you changed the names slightly. Why? Well if you’re using them as live tool kits some distros boot better on some hardware compared to others

    SSD-companies alwasy kind of lie about the capacity. I would love a law which obligates those companies to point out the capacity which you see in the operating system. That has to be defined a bit more precise but we can work that out. ;)
    It doesn't really matter which convention is used as long as it is clear what the number means. I think that cache and spare capacity for when it ages should not be included in the number for storage.

    Mr. @OldTechBloke, Have you used QEMU? If yes, could you please make a video comparing and contrasting it with Virtualbox, and any other VMs? I have heard/read some Linux users who say the QEMU is much better than the Virtualbox; speed is often mentioned. Is it solely about speed? Would you please offer your input? Thank you.

    • @OldTechBloke

    Great video Steve, thanks for sharing. I noticed in your video that something is rattling on your desk and its getting picked up by your microphone. If I had to guess I would say it was the camera, because when you moved your arms while resting them on the desk, your camera shakes, and the noise seems to coincide. ( 29:19 example)

      I mean both RAM and all other possible resources. Am I understanding it right, that if the virtual mashine is shut down, the host got all the resources back, that otherwice were dedicatet to the virtual guest.?
