    Wow! I like that statement... "Back in the Day we had our CD's and Boot Floppies." or something to that effect... :-)
    I still have all my CD's and Floppies from when I went on service calls to fix someone's computer that was not booting or Windows did not start. In those days there was no Windows 10 or 7, it was 3.1 or 311 or WFW (Windows for Workgroups) and Windows NT, lets not forget Windows Server... Great Days... I was a Service Technicians not a IT person, IT was not invented yet... Lol
    Thanks OTB for the video... You told me that I needed something before I needed it... Lol

      Cheers Bruce, yes I cut my teeth on windows 3.11 and then everything that followed, so lots of floppy disks and CDs. In fact, I came across a brand new box of floppy disks in our local store yesterday that must have been on the shelf for 10 years plus - made me laugh and brought back memories

      @@OldTechBloke I tried to use MultibootUSB on Solus Linux but the resulting USB with Two test images on it (MX KDE and Gecko) but it would boot at all; I wondered if I needed to do anything extra to install a bootloader or something but there must be some other problem
      I previously used this on Windows and it worked just fine and actually ended up trying it because it was the only thing on Solus Linux that would install an OS with persistence, I'd use Rufus before on Windows but that has been restricted to Windows use only and won't even work on Wine...

    I just watched this and while I like what you put on it, none of these multiboot solutions hod a candle to Ventoy. Use the Linux or windows script to create a bootable USB. You then drag and drop your iso's to have them listed. I've tried all the solutions you mentioned, but have had problems with each one. I couldn't tell you how I happened across it, but I'm happy I did.

    A good topic. I have been using Linux most of the time (you know, gaming...) for a few years now but I haven't done that yet and I think that it can come in handy. For example, I run main Arch but due to a mistake I ended up with a few GB (4?) of files (I wanted to make an ISO of a distro, I used a script which comes from a trustworthy source but doesn't work in those circumstances) in my home folder which I could not easily remove. I chmodded the files, changed ownership to the user but still I couldn't remove those files. I tried out if I could fix it by removing attributes, the rabbit-hole went deeper. I was in over my head so I burned Manjaro to a USB, booted it up and removed those files that way. It comes in handy sometimes to be able to put multiple distros on one USB.

    Now if you choose the load Grub2 will that act as the grub2 for the PC you're booting the USB from? Say if the grub configs got messed up on a multiboot system it would find the OSs installed and display them? I could find that to be a useful tool.

    • @trueriver1950
      @trueriver1950 4 года назад

      One thing to try that sometimes works is to go into the grub2 commandline (press c while the menu is showing). Then find the grub.cfg file for the version you want to boot, using the ls command. Note the syntax of the file path in this environment is something like (hd0, gpt2)/boot/grub/grub.cfg or (hd0,gpt2)/grub/grub.cfg (depending on whether you have a separate boot partition or not). Then simply go to that file with this command:
      configfile (hd0,gpt2)/boot/grub/grub.cfg
      In general this works when the boot sector is compromised or uefi has failed somehow, but the filesystem for your linux install is intact.

    Hi OTB! Thank you for another very interesting video. I successfully used your video instructions and installed Multibootusb and then downloaded and installed Clonezilla-live and Rescatux and then Linux Mint 19.3 MATE. Did a test drive, as per your suggestion and both Clonilla-live and Linux Mint booted successfully. Alas, Rescatux failed, returning an error "Failed to load COM32 file vesamenu-c32"
    I then uninstalled Rescatux and tried with an older version. Got the same result. Downloaded both the old and newer versions from Rescatux website and tried again, with the same failure and error message.
    Both of those files are in /media/zed/USB STICK/multibootusb, which is where mulyibootusb was installed. It seems strange to me that bothother isos have no problem but Rescatux has.
    Your advice is sought, please? The Rescatux versions I have tried are: rescatux-0.71-beta7.iso and rescatux-0.72-beta6.iso

    • @OldTechBloke
      @OldTechBloke  4 года назад

    • @alberttenfoot
      @alberttenfoot 4 года назад +1

      Thank you for your prompt reply. That cured the problem but booting Rescatux was very slow. I have an AMD FX4100 processor and normally boot Legacy mode. Been trying to find out whether that processor supports UEFI, without success.I ask because multiboot grub is UEFI mode!

    • @OldTechBloke
      @OldTechBloke  4 года назад +1

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375 4 года назад +1

      @@OldTechBloke Many UEFI BIOSes have a 'bug'. If the USB boot drive has a valid \EFI\BOOT\bootx64.efi file on it, then the BIOS Boot Selection pop-up menu does not present you with the option to MBR\Legacy boot! This means that you can only UEFI-boot. To see if this is the issue with your BIOS, simply rename the \EFI folder to something else.

      I’m afraid I’m not a dev but the common element here seems to be using it on an arch based system. You could try sending the errors to the developer to see if he has any insights. You shouldn’t need to install Syslinux agai again. Try the deb file in mint. That’s the one I used on Debian stable

      OK I haven't tested it yet, but I have all 3 ISO's installed. The problem seems to be with v9.3.0 from the AUR git hub. I uninstalled it and selected the AUR only version v9.2.0-4 using 'yay -S multibootusb'.
      I reformatted the USB stick, did not use the 'Install Syslinux' option tab. I just selected each ISO in turn and they all installed.
