*NEW TOOL NOT FEATURED* - Check out Ventoy as it is very easy and works on any OS - www.ventoy.net/en/index.html
*DISCLAIMER:* There are multiple ways to do Multiboot but I picked YUMI because I need Windows, Linux, and Utilities all within a single USB drive. Many other utilities I found just didn't accomplish this task. YUMI was the best for using both Windows and Linux based systems. I just wanted to showcase you can use some Windows tools like YUMI on Linux without issue.
Its a really helpful tool
Rufus is best for single installation and its fast than Yumi
YUMI is the swiss army knife for multiple distro. 10star rating.
The only thing missing is Apples OSX, but I don't think you can live boot that, only pre installed versions on Mac and installing it as a Hackintosh.
I wish YUMI had a native linux version, but it's OK, it just works with WINE.
I have been looking for something that will let me put iso images so I can install any OS or run live images w/o a crazy installer from a USB drive. I tried Easy2Boot which appears to be working but failed mid-install on a server 2019. I am thinking maybe the drive went bad on me. Thoughts?
Wanted this for a very long time , noice
I have tried so many different Linux usb methods. This is perfect. Thank you!!!
ayyyy it's yumi my favorite universal multiboot installer, i installed my first linux distro with this
Learn a lot from your videos. Especially Windows 10 installation. Good job. Keep doing what you are doing
Thank You Chris!!! It's so nice to learn new things!!
Color it green and call it "The Ultimate Distro Hopper" ;)
Thank you man for the solution, I was looking for something like this for a very long time
THANK YOU I have been trying to get this to work uefi for a week
I used YUMI earlier to create a multiboot USB stick with live distributions of Linux and also live antivirus and software tool environments. It was very easy to use and I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the video, Chris! Just found this, as I wanted to make a multi-boot with rescue tools, but be able to update the software. Think of a stick with a Win7 recovery tool, Hiren's Rescue (old but works on some things), the Win10 version of Hiren's Rescue (resurrected by fans); Gparted Rescue, etc. And you can use the stick's memory to save rescued files if it's got enough room also. Plus makes notes on what tools do what on each bootable version.
Thank you, Chris. Very good tool. And about the only way I would Windows installed on something.
Thank you Chris you have helped me out a lot
This is particularity helpful. Back then it dint work well all the time , yumi that is but im sure by now it works like a bomb. Good video. This is very useful. Thanks.
This looks very interesting. I have multiple USBs with different Linux distros on my keychain, so this seems like a super nice option in terms of portability.
I love yumi, i have my ultimate usb stick on me all the time
Wow great video with nice new transitions😉
I see what you did there😅
Great tutorial video. Good job.
Great instructional video as usual😀👍👌
Thanks Chris.
Thanks Chris!!
YUMI is "nice", though I prefer MultiBoot or Easy2Boot. Both have been at this for several years now, unlike Yumi which was stuck in legacy until only recently (my original reason for ditching it nearly 10 years ago). Also very nice that both come with system agnostic tools, no need for Wine. And even more "nice", both also add the ability to simply copy an ISO file direct onto the USB drive (into the ISO folder) which is added to the grub menu at boot time - actually makes this whole process a lot easier.
Especially Eas2Boot really only needs you to use its tool once, to generate the boot + efi folders and setup its e2b folder containing all the ISOs. After that a normal file copy works. And this works on all the ISO files I've tried, including even W10.
THIS IS AWESOME! Might save me the trouble of modifying the ASUS Bios to include the "Launch CSM" option. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Very informative Video. Thank you
good information and well done video. Thank you for sharing
Duuuude that's siiick! 🤯🤯🤯
Love it!!! Made mine using Easy2boot.
thats what I use
Easy2boot seems way involved. Trying to change the menus the way you want them to be.
I really recommend ventoy, it's a simple foss utility that formats the pen drive into a small 16 MB FAT16 partition you don't have to worry about and another exFAT to fill the rest, you can simply drag and drop isos on the exfat partition (no unzipping no programs no nothing, just simple drag and drop) and you will be able to boot off of them, and you can also put other sorts of files on the exfat partiton for general purpose storage so you will be able to use it as a normal pendrive as well as a boot pendrive
Thank god i found you perfect timing
i recommend ventoy just install drag and drop the iso files, finish now u can boot and install your new OS
@Jesson Uy recently installed win10 with ventoy. Had to reset the bios to legacy to get it to boot then reformat the hdd and it worked
I was coming down to drop the exact comment, Ventoy works freaking fantastic for me. UEFI and and legacy machines no problems. i tried some common isos so far (debian, arch, mint with persistent storage, ubuntu and windows 10). Im about to venture into making an arch bootable along side all this stuff.
Me too installed Win 10 with Ventoy...worked well without any problems..
@@JoshuaWilkesR when I use Ventory, it create a two partition. Is there a problem on it ?
Can I put both 32 bit and 64 bit of any distro in Vintoy?
i love yumi, i installed win7 on a vm just to use it the other day..
It would be great if you could make a detailed video on bitwarden how to set it up and all as well as Vivaldi's browser and must use extension i have learned alot from your videos and all looking forward to learn more
I've used MultibootUSB in th past, it worked well and had a Linux native port. I never tried comparing its EFI boot and legacy boot, thoough
Good job!
Absolutely interesting that something like this exists. Though, I don't see myself using one as most Distros I use on USB are super, super small(like Puppy on a 1GB USB).
Oh, coming from what you stated, I know you'd avoid CentOS Server like the plague. I dl'ed the iso, & it's just over 7 gig in size. Fortunately, at the computer store where I live, they sell 8.5 gig 240 minute 1-8 speed DVD+R dual discs. No need for installing an internal blue-ray drive. About $28.00 for 25 blank discs. They had the last pack on the shelf. I guess they're becoming a feasible substitute over a blue-ray drive & the cost of blank discs.
If you have an available, lower capacity SATA3 SSD (32,64,120 GB), then consider using it as your installation medium (via external enclosure to USB port.) It will fly faster than any thumb drive.
64gb pendrive unable to boot and unable create presistence
Ventory is the best multiboot app. forget all other apps and deal with ventory....it doesnt need any skills just install and format your usb and cpy paste ya iso. boot. i have been dealing with bunch of multiboot stuffs but this ventory is the best i have come across
Hi, loved the video. what linux distro are you using?
I had never heard of Parted Magic. Interesting that it runs in RAM.
Keep in mind though, that PMagic is non-gratis software. It's about $10,- for the infinite use of the software ($31,- if you want 1 year of updates annd access to development builds).
Most of it's utility software can be found in GParted Live and Clonezilla Live for free ;)
Hi Chris. I regularly watch your channel. Great job!! I'm not a Linux expert though I love it and use it since Ubuntu 5 as just a desktop/laptop user ( so not a coder or hacker here...). I usually have my live USB sticks , Yumi is great, but I don't understand why when I try on a distro with persistence it's so slow, VERY SLOW. I like having my USB and use it on any computer I have to use for that day and keeping all my environment settings and wifi passwords. What can be the problem?
I was actually looking for this type of solution a couple of weeks ago
I am going to use this information to have multiple distros of Linux on a 64GB flash drive. What's my flavor of Linux today? Peppermint.
i've been using yumi since i had to hop to EFI boot because of the nvme drive.
it ain't perfect as it sometimes fails to properly setup the bootloader menu but hey it works.
Hey Chris, greetings! Really nice video. Tks a lot. By the way, how about a basic "step by step" video on btrfs for beginers?? I mean from install to creating the "pools" and doing snapshots. I tried a gui app but no success. I really apreciate your videos and i'll be really glad if you could do as suggested. Be well!
So with this implementation can you update the environments? In the past I've tried to live off of live usb environments but nothing was ever persistent from boot to boot. Saved files, updates, the like.
I love Ventoy! Now I have 16 extra USB drives!
I used Yumi a lot before I got my USB kit with virtual DVD iso support. Yumi was working for 95% isos for me. for some it just did not want to boot. I will give it a shot, especially UEFI is nice, as I can also havr Windows 10 UEFI installation there...
how did you get that the matrix screen saver
Hey Cris I know my question is not related to this video but do you have any resources to learn Linux server adminstration?
Can you set up persistence with YUMI?
thats cool, How do you capture screen of a boot screen though ?
thanks
I hear 'start formatting' come from Chris' mouth and I think... oh god, not again..
Several OS from one USB: nice! yummy!
GREAT VIDEO! any chance you can do a video showing how to use this tool to multi boot from a hdd with multiple OS's?
This is a good video. My work has been using Yumi legacy boot for a couple years now and we are starting to transition things to UEFI. We are having trouble getting VMware ESXi to boot UEFI using Yumi. We have the latest iso. Any suggestions on a multiboot for UEFI that could include Linux, VMware ESXi, and Windows? Thank you.
Many file browsers will allow you to format USB drives directly through the file browser.
Daft question, when you stopped “yummi” how do you had more to the original usb. + could you make a awesome live disk that we could install on low memory laptops. I had a go at it and failed, still a noobie when it’s Linux. More of a mac user.
tiny core Linux distribution runs very well on my 25 year old computer with 128mb of ram so I think you should check this linux distribution out because I want to know what you think about it
.... Okay good information
Which linux were you using?
I am a distro hopper so I'm pretty familiar with this topic. I have 3 computers and about a dozen hard drives, a couple of disk docking stations, a few ssd drives, and several dozen MicroSD cards and thumb drives. Well, I saw your video and I immediately went out and searched the web for a similar program and I won't say which one I chose but I nearly ruined two thumb drives. After using their program to put multiple OSs on thumb drives, they would not boot, even though I tried many attempts to get the right BIOS/uefi settings and grub installations . Then I tried to delete everything and reformat the thumb drives. I couldn't format them because after stumbling around a bit in Linux and Windows 10, I had to use Partman to put a new MBR on the drive. It was the only way I could format them with FAT32. Win 10 was helpless with it.
What did you search before formatting
Can we create persistent storage for these distros?
But will such a USB be bootable in Secure Boot Mode?
Chris, What is the distro you are using in this video? Thanks.
cant get more than one distro on usb...When I put another distro on, then it overwrite usb again. Why?
How about Ventoy?
Easy2Boot is what I recommend. I have a dedicated USB stick for it, with XP, 7, 10, clonezilla and a couple of linux distros. It's a great tool to have if you work with lots of different computers.
Tried it out right before he uploaded the vid and fell in love with it. I love their mbr partition table hack to have virtual usb sticks within a usb stick. I can now ditch drivedroid and go back to UEFI multibooting ;D
@ XP Corporate keys work just fine, they do not need activation. I don't think anyone would object to using something like DAZ Loader to activate Windows 7 if you have a genuine license for it and need to activate it for whatever reason.
I just posted the same comment, been using it years...so far everything else is just garbage/buggy in compare...HOWEVER I USE AN OLDER VERSION, as the newer ones seem to choke on Win10 installs...so there is that to remember 1.06a or there-a-bouts.
@@alal792 I use imgPTN files for the Windows 10 stuff, works great :D
@@Henk717 also there is the flagged exe in the program, I believe the authors reason for that, and so far have found it to be clean in all my usage (which is years).
Ive tried it before. I put linux and windows in stick. But when i boot it only work to the last os i put in usb. If i click linux distro it still boot on the last os
Ventoy - just came across it
An open source tool to create bootable USB drive for ISO files, you don't need to format the disk again and again, you just need to copy the iso file to the USB drive and boot it.
Both Legacy BIOS and UEFI are supported in the same way
Which distro and desktop enviroment are you using?
Chris, why did you remove dxvk? :)
Why dont you tackle PXE booting? I've been using it for a while and it changed a lot how easy it is to just load an OS without constantly formatting usb sticks, this waythere's less wear on them
I can't find any options to install Elementary os,parrot os and kali linux in the os selector . Could you please help me out here
hello sir, may i know what is the differences between pendrivelinux yumi vs ventoy? which one is better? sorry for this noob questions, i'm new to this. just want to make sure it can run live linux rather than installation. thank you and have a nice day. :)
Any thoughts why it doesnt let you choose Pop Os? After insertion Create button is greyd out. Iso is 2.4gb not over 4 that would make sense with fat32 limitations
Edit:Found it out...closed the program re-open it chose Ubuntu and tick show all iso's and select the iso you want. Somehow it made the Create re appear and be able to press it
Hi Chris, how did you customise that linux terminal to show the current directory in multiple colors. (Path to the current location prompt ie Titus>studio>~Downloads breadcrumb like things)
Finally a good reason to buy 64 GiB flash drive.
Does legacy bios work on Mac OS?
thanks for sharing the tutorial brother. i found aplication can make a multibootable (windows, linux, dlcd, hiren) and support to boot in UEFI and Legacy in single FD. i make the tutorial in my video. and now, in my computer store use this bootable method to reinstal windows or just troubleshooter tool's
Very useful comment! Really helpful. I am sure you have helped lots of people. We all think you are great.
But can you put windows install media and winPE live CDs on the same drive with Yumi?
I'm not sure to understand how you can make a usb stick bootablr for both EUFI and legacy, Yumi site say it either one or them not both
How would you add an Arch live environment with a GUI?
ethos(not free 😭) or any better for eth mine?
can you tell me sir
what is the OS ARE YOU USING
terminal and side bar are
fantastic
May I ask about showing us Slax, next time?
Can it create a persistent live boot?
Hello CTT I'm a new guy to Linux please help me install IDM on MX-Linux 19.1, I will glad.
kinda lost with the part where you are showing the legacy bit and booting from it, are they from the same USB drive and from the same distros that you installed using YUMI UEFI? or not?
i have a problem exfat dont work on gparted on usb hhd 7tb
I had issues with Manjaro and Yumi has anyone got any tips or tricks for manjaro
My "porpoise" here 😂
Question: If i want to add a full .iso of RHEL or Oracle Linux to my USB Multiboot, Since they are CentOS based, is it best to choose CentOS as the distribution? If so, which is best to pick, CentOS Live or CentOS Minimal?
I’m getting “No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!”
8:22 The whole porpoise??? I think you need a tidalee for that, as long as it's not depreciated. ;-)
Why are you casting nasturtiums? I think he's tortoise a really cool thing there.

Hi ! This video is very interesting, I would like to put a few distros on my new USB drive, but one of them is missing from the Yumi list: Pop OS. Is there a way to add it on the drive anyway?
Just use ventoy.
Hi is there any performance different for a HDD
I don't want to sound needy, but you should do a Multiboot Easy2Boot tutorial and make custom grub themes. A Hax0r theme :3
does this mean to create multiple live OS on USB disk or just multi boot installer?
Hi. Is the best way to go UEFI boot for multiple linux distro in one HSS?
Before watch the video I thought that maybe it about creating multiboot under Linux... But no, it's about windows tool under wine! If so, why not offer something like easy2boot, it allows to launch .iso file directly, just copy it on flash drive and "enter" in menu and it works.. often works(yeah, with efi, it's require reboot, after "enter"..).
But I personally prefer to use iodd's hard drive case that can mount iso and shows itself as regular USB cdrom and works almost on every pc (that supports USB cdrom). With (multi) boot flash, there's anyway some chances that just fail to boot
*YES FEATURED*
